N95 Battery drains when plugged into PC

When I'm working I have my N95 plugged into my PC but, I have found that my battery drains quicker than when it's not connected to the pc.
Can anyone explain why this is or, do I have a problem with my N95?
Regards,
Jono

Isn't it also accessing the external drive as well, thus taking CPU cycles, thus draining the battery? As the USB does not charge but provides signaling from the phone to the PC via the USB it would be safe to assume that the power drain is simply from the constant communication.

  • Battery instantly drains when plugged into charger

A few days ago I went to plug in my BB at 1/4 full battery and when I did, the screen went blank, but the key pad was still lit up. I tried pulling the battery, but nothing turned on. I left it for a day and then tried it in my car charger, which charged it a little, and made me able to atleast turn it on, but the battery was completly drained. But I took it into my provider anyways and asked them to take a look at it. But as luck would have it, it worked perfectly for them with all 3 types of chargers (wall, car and  usb). I brought it home and it charged fine with the wall charger. But today it did the same thing...Does anyone know what could be wrong?

I don't know if it's the battery, the microUSB charge/data port, firmware or electronics ... but my 8220 Pearl Flip is now a BRICK! It's happened before that it dies and fails to light up when the charger or sync cable is plugged in but at some point battery re-insertion would start the charging. Either the Canadian engineers or the Mexican factory workers have messed up badly with this device. If it ever powers up, I'll try removing every app
As an experienced PC technician, I conclude that a BlackBerry Mini External Battery Charger might be the only solution until RIM provides a fix. Get a spare C-M2 battery unless you want to carry the external charger with you and don't mind waiting for it to build up a charge. I've just ordered both on Amazon.
Found these 3 posts:  ["I talked to a sales rep at TMobile about this, and she just said, "Well, just keep your phone charged and you won't have that issue." Hmmm, you think? My god, I charge my phone nearly every night, but I also use it a lot for work. If the battery gets low and I'm at work and still need to use it, then what? I've never had a phone where I couldn't just plug it in and keep using it. Very frustrating. Anyway, my question for people who already have the Flip is, does that phone have that issue, or is it possible to plug it in and use it, even if the battery indicates that it's low when you plug it in to charge? I'd hate to buy another phone that doesn't allow that."]
["I just got the 8220 flip two days ago. After charging, the battery lost more than 50% of the charge in less than 12 hours! I was told that this thing only needed to be charged ONCE A WEEK and that if it doesn't hold the charge, it needs to be sent back.... I am thinking that it's not just my flip that's defective, perhaps it's the whole product line."]
["I am having the same issue. About 10 hours of standby time. Even if I turn off all radios including the mobile network the phone is dead by the morning, every morning. This one is going back (I may try another, or just give up on the Flip)."]

My iPad wont charge when plugged into a computer, the battery isn't lasting long, and its getting hot when charging

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.

At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • Will dead battery stop netbook g62 from booting up even when plugged into the mains

Had the battery warning (last week)
did not replace now will not boot up even when plugged into the mains.  Is this likely to stop booting or just a case of more than one thing wrong at the same time. New battery expensive to buy if it is likely to be something else wrong.

A battery can be so dead it will keep the laptop from powering on fully when the dead cells suck up too much of the power. Will it turn on with "mains" connected but battery removed?

It sounds very very much like the battery. You will need to have it replaced. If you put the failing one in yourself you will need to pay as your Warranty is now void.

I think I am having the same problem as you. When I plug my fully charged ipod mini into the computer it beeps 3 times then says "no battery power remains plug into power source" then it turns off and then says something about never unplugging my ipod without ejecting first but I didn't unplug the stupid thing in the first place. The same exact thing started happening to my husbands ipod shuffle on the same day. Somebody please help!!!!!! Oh, the battery also seems to be draining a lot faster than usual like in 30-40 minutes from being fully charged. This thing is a peice of crap and it's not the first problem I've had with it.

  • IPhone only turns on when plugged into wall

Hello, I have an iPhone 4 CDMA and it only works when in is plugged into the wall.  It does not work properly anyother time.  When I plug it into the computer it goes through the Boot Loop.  When I put it into DFU mode and recovery mode and try to restore it in iTunes it doesn't restore and just gives me a bunch of different error codes.  The most common error codes are 2001, 2006, or 1604.  It use to give me Error 21 but I fixed that by editing the hosts files.  I have tried six different computers and seven different iPhone cables on the computers and I still get the same error codes every time.  It does not work if it is not plugged in.  I have replaced the dock connector/charging port and the battery.  I bought it used and think it may have been jailbroken at on time.  It has not been jailbroken in the time I have had it.  I have also tried Tinyumbrella and that did not work.  What could be wrong with it?

Hello! When it turns off, do you notice if it drains quickly or does it just shut off even with full battery? Because this can also be caused by battery problems. Your iPhone may not be turning on even when plugged into a computer because a wall outlet charger gives off more power than a computer does.
I suggest you bring your phone to an Apple store right away. They could at least help you determine the problem, and by then, you can decide what to do with your iPhone - you can have it repaired (if they say it's still fixable), you can have it replaced with a refurbished iPhone, or you can buy a new phone completely.

  • My Ipod touch will only work when plugged into a itouch radio.  When I take it out, it goes blank.  Why can I do?

My Ipod touch will only work when plugged into an Itouch radio.  When I take it out of the charger, it goes blank.  The battery shows fully charged.  It appears that the battery is no longer charging.  What should I do?

Try a reset: Hold the home and power buttons at the same time until the Apple boot logo appears. No data will be lost. If that fails, the battery may have gone kaput.

  • How come my Ipod Touch will only charge when plugged into a computer and not a docking station or wall socket?

My IPhone works with both the charging USB cable as well as the wall socket and docking station.  Additionally, my IPod used to charge using both the wall socket plug in and the docking station.  My IPod will stay play music when plugged into the docking station, but won't charge.  Further, when I plug my IPod into my computer all it will do is charge and is not recognized by ITunes.  I have done both a soft and hard reset.

If the iPhone has no problem with the same cable then
    - See:
    iPod touch: Hardware troubleshooting
iPhone and iPod touch: Charging the battery
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • IPhone 4S only powers on when plugged into a wall charger, stuck in bootloop

Today I went to get my phone's screen fixed. At first, the problem was that the phone was rebooting every 3-4 minutes. Then, after it died, it doesn't power on anymore, except when it is plugged into a wall charger. However, it is stuck in a bootloop, where it shows the apple logo for about 7 seconds, then the screen goes black for about 5 seconds, then repeats. I can't unplug it or else the phone goes dead, and plugging it into my computer results in the same deadness. I've tried DFU Mode, Recovery and everything else when plugged into my computer, but it remains dead and black screened. The phone is not picked up at all, it doesn't power on or anything. It only powers on when it is wall charged, but it will bootloop. I can't get past this, and there is no way I can restore it. Help?

Your battery is dead. You will have to replace it see article:
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIs and corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.

Using the battery level meter in this manner is comparable to using your car's fuel gauge to calculate miles per gallon. The only thing that matters is the total amount of operating time from full charge to auto-shutdown.
Use the wall-mount charger that came with the iPad and charge overnight.  Do NOT use an iPod/iPhone charger.  Do NOT use a computer's USB port.  Then, operate it normally until auto shut-down (ignore any low level alerts that may appear).  An irony is that doing that test to determine the total operating time is also the procedure necessary to calibrate the battery level meter.
I'm not claiming that you do not have a problem.  I am stating, however, that we don't yet know.  If the above test does, in fact, indicate a problem, read this.
    Also, according to Apple:
    Use Your iPad Regularly
For proper reporting of the battery’s state of charge, be sure to go through at least one charge cycle per month (charging the battery to 100% and then completely running it down).
Elsewhere, Apple elaborates and explains that two half-discharges (or four quarter-discharges, etc.) equals one full discharge.

  • IPod classic won't turn off when plugged into a home theater dock; what's up? will it hurt to leave it on all the time?

I bought a new iPod Classic and it won't turn off when plugged into a home theater dock. Is this normal and will it hurt the iPod if i leave it on all the time?

    Hi there,
How old is your Classic? Often, after a couple of years, rechargable batteries begin to fail, especially after such a long period of inactivity. This happens with any gadget with this type of battery.
Try leaving it plugged in for 24 hours, and try again, to rule out that it isn't just really low on charge. If this doesn't help, it may be a good time to buy a replacement. New iPod Nanos and Touches will be released this October.
Below, I've linked to an Apple website which explains rechargable batteries, and why yours may not be working.
    Apple - Batteries
I hope this helps, and I hope upgrading your device will not feel like an unnecessary expense. Let me know if you have any more questions,
    Nathan
