N95 Downgrade?

i recently updated my software on my N95 to V.21.0.016 (BIG MISTAKE), ever since i updated it my problems started, my contacts dissapear sometimes, phone keeps restarting itself and the main problem is it does not load all of the songs of my memory card, i have 208 songs and it only loads 64, when i refresh it, it keeps loading and loading, you have to stop it and it still doesnt add any songs, and when i slide my phone down it does not go to the screen where you can choose to go to any appilications such as music player e.t.c. like it used to before. Is there any way of me downgrading it so i can get the original software which came with the phone?

It's possible but it's illegal and will void your warranty and it can't be discussed here.
Have you tried things such as reinstalling the firmware/formatting the phone? It might solve your problem.
Feel free to hit the KUDOS button if you think I deserved it.........

  • Any idea to downgrade N95??

Recently i have upgraded my N95 into v30 and when had restoring my files it has stuck and when unplug my cable and go to Gallery it is stuck again, so i have formatted my memory card, reset phone and reformatted my phone again, at least 3 times so it is useless to copy files to my memory?! What should i do now? I want my v20 software, when i had v20 my N95 never had a problem like this! I has worked very well, but now it is getting very slow, I hate that v30 and NOKIA developer team! (

It's not possible to downgrade yourself. Only a nokia care point can do it and it's not a recommend procedure so they may refuse.
Sometimes reinstalling the firmware helps it to work better as does resetting it by dialling *#7370# on the main screen. Either of these will wipe all data from your phone.
Many people have successfully updated to v30 and prefer it to previous versions.
If none of that helps then visit a care point and ask them to reinstall or possibly downgrade you.

Now I am calm again, can I downgrade the software on my phone?

I updated yesterday to 15.0.015 and I restored my backup successfuly, but some applications showed me installation error message when I restarted the phone.
    That wasn't a problem.
The problem is that I can´t open Contact List. I can create new contacts. I can access it when I write a message. But I can search a contact for search a number or any information stored of a contact.

listen n95 users who updated their firmware to v21.
when i learned yesterday that v21 was out, i didnt wait another second to get the new firmware. like most of you guys would do. i made a back up of my files first and then downloaded the freshly brought out upgrade.
the flash 3 support was cool and the web runtime. the phone seemed to work faster too.
but the next 2 thing ill tell you is something what i would call very saddening about this upgrade.
    1. the camera flash lights doesnt work anymore. even if you set it on force flash
    2. today ( 2nd day of v21 in possession) my phone stopped working and the screen went all black. i thought my phone crashed so i did what i usually do when it happens. i pulled the battery out for about 3 mins but the screen remained black. fyi, a phone that's turned off shows a blank screen. i put it back, same story. my phone is dead and i couldnt turn it on anymore. i immediately drive by the nearest nokia point center and ask if they could fix it. i had to leave my phone there for inspection and reparation. that means i would be able to use it for a couple of days. and this is very tragic.
is there anyone there that encountered the same problem?
piece of advice to those who havent have theyre phone upgraded: wait a couple of days first, and listen to what those who downloaded v21 on their phone. v21 is what i call DOWNGRADE in this matter. im very disappointed with this new firmware....

hi guys i just FED UP from posting all my bad reviews telling sony that this update couldn't fix the issues from the notification freezing sound, overheating, lag, battery drain, missing everything becausde all my alarms, reminders and ringtines coming from the earpiece not from the loud speaker. i sent an e-mail to sony customer service telling them that my phone became useless and i have no option to do any thing and i wrote all the issues. they replied : a fix for the issues will be included in a new software release that will start rolling out as soon as possible.(without giving any specific date). i repaired my mobile via SUS and still the same i repaired it via pc companion and still the same i did a factory reset and still the same i went to sony service here in egypt and they told me this is a bug that sony should fix we can't do anything. what i am suppose to do now?!!!!!! nokia n95 is older than my mobile with more than 5 years and has no issues at all!!!! i don't care about the warranty i need to downgrade to 4.3 jellybean again, i live in egypt and i need FTF file that suitable for my region i dound alot of FTF files on xda developers and other sites but i couldn't know what is the correct one for me and i also need the steps with links.

  • Important Question About N95 New FirmWare?

    Hi,
I need to ask about the updating of the new firmware for n95...
while i am updating if :
    *the PC shutdown
*someone call me and the mobile ring at the updating process
    *the electricity went off
*the internet connection have a problem
*the battery become empty at the updating process
WHAT Will Happen to The Phone????
somebody says its over, the mobile is gone, its damaged
&the REAL QUESTION HERE IS :
Can i just restart the process from the begining or what?
&Does the Backup process that i had done it at the PC is useful to get back the old Firmware or its just for the files i installed on the phone??
    thx gus.............

while i am updating if : ... see here
    http://europe.nokia.com/A4577229
    *the PC shutdown
    - you should get "Software update failed".
*someone call me and the mobile ring at the updating process
    - calls can be made and received while the software is being downloaded. The call will be terminated automatically when the update phase begins.
*the electricity went off/*the internet connection have a problem/*the battery become empty at the updating process
    - Power or internet connection was lost during the update. The update may have been successful. Remove the battery and if the software was not updated, try again.
*Does the Backup process that i had done it at the PC is useful to get back the old Firmware or its just for the files i installed on the phone??
    - Nokia device firmware cannot be downgraded. Once you have upgraded your device, you will not be able to restore it to the earlier version.

  • N95, date changes itself. latest fw v31.0.017

    Hi.
I have alarm on my phone that goes on every work day at 05:20.
Week 4 it worked great mon, tue and wed.
On friday evening i ask my girlfriend if the alarm did go on today(fri) and yeasterday(thu), she couldnt remember.
Saturday morning the alarm goes on 05:20 i woked up turned it off and turned on coffee mashine.
Hmm, what the hell its saturday?!
So i thought that i somehow changed the date and time to some other day and changed it back.
Week 5, mon, tue, wed the alarm goes on as it should.
Thursday 29 january, time 05:35 i asked if she heard the alarm today? No she said.
I went into my calendar and what did i see, the date is set to 31 january 2009!!! but today its 29 january 2009.
I can bet that in 2 days on saturday the calendar is gonna change back to 29 january 2009 and the alarm is gonna wake me up on saturday morning.
    Anyone else with this problem?

    N95 (03.01)

    hi,
it works for E66, too. I've been testing for a couple of days.
There's another thing that doesn't work, though ...
When the alarm-clock starts, i have the option to <stop> , and then turn on/off the phone, or <delay>, which will make the phone silent for the moment; the alarm will start again in 5 minutes (5 minutes for me, i think this is a setting...).
This doesn't work . (doesn't work anymore; it used to, before the last software "downgrade" hrrr... )
If i choose <delay>, the phone will "shut-up", and then will never "speak" again ...
I wait, wait, wait... and then, when I turn it on manually (15 minutes later) -> it is then when it tells me I had an alarm 10 minutes ago, and the alarm really starts ringing ....
    Anyone else noticed that?
I guess there is no workaround for that, is there ?
    cheers,

magiardi's right. Try re-flashing by using the Software Update again.
Run software update and then instead of showing you an update, it will ask you if you want to re-install the phone's software.

  • How to install personal certificate on N95?

    Hi,
Does anyone know how to install a personal certificate on the N95? I need to connect to my office WLAN using Radius authentication. I have tried to bluetooth the .cer file to the phone and it does not recognize the file or install it. I am familiar with all of the WPA settings (EAP-Peap-MSCHAP v2....etc) which do not work or seem to work without the personal cert.
    Thanks,
    Greg

I also need to import a personal certificate on a N95 for synchronization with the company exchange server.
I tried to import thru bluetooth in a .p12, .cer format. I tried also to modify the certificate with openSLL.
It seems that is not possible to import personal certificate exported from the exchange server on a N95!!
The support site answered me just to import it in a .p12 format. I'm not dummy, I know what I did, I just become a message that the file is corrupt, but I can use this certificate on all other mobiles!
I will change to a Sonyericsson P1, or do someone know how to solve the problem? Also the support didn't tell me when there will be a version 13 of the firmware, if the problem is known and if is possibile to downgrade to version 10.

  • N95 Software Update and Nokia Harrassment

    Hi There,
I have think Nokia is getting more creative in finding various ways of making money from poor people.
But the question is will this make them rich or lose customers.
    Look at this story.
I purchase a Nokia N95 - 8GB from Delhi, India on 29th Feb 2008 and then moved to Sydney last month. I have an HP laptop with Vista Ultimate 64-bit and the latest PC Suite (6.86).
Initially, I had a problem with connecting N95 to the PC Suite on my laptop. Windows crashed on installing PC Suite and gave a blue screen with the error on WUDFRD.sys. I called the Nokia Careline and they didn't the issue (though the issue is all over internet). They advised me to speak to Microsoft for the same.
However, the issue got resolved when i installed Vista SP1.
Which means that Nokia PC Suite does not work with Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit but works with Vista SP1.
Day before yesterday, I found out that Nokia has released a new firmware for N95 - 8GB (version 20) so I tried to update it using the Nokia Software Updater. After downloading the latest software and the firmware from the internet, the Nokia Software Updater crashed saying: "Nokia Service Layer Host Process Has Stopped Working" and the update never happened. I looked up the internet and there are many instances of this problem.
I called the Nokia Careline at 1300 366 733 and to my surprise they said that my internet connection has a problem, though I clearly mentioned that both the firmware and the software update is downloaded from the internet, but he insisted that the server is busy and so I cannot download the update. Really laughable.
He also diagnosed that because I am using Vista SP1, the software is crashing, I should call Microsoft to downgrade to Vista without SP1. Question is… If I downgrade to Vista Ultimate from SP1, I will not be able to connect to the PC Suite. I upgraded to SP1 because of Nokia PC Suite.
However, he advised me to go to the Nokia service center and they will be able to update the software.
Now, this is classic. I reach the Nokia service center and show my mobile and the receipt of purchase. He says it is not covered under warranty because I purchased it India and so I will have to pay $49.50 for the upgrade and he cannot guarantee whether the phone will work after that.
Firstly, the Nokia Software Updater doesn't work from the Nokia site and then they ask us to pay for it. It is a Nokia Phone which is released less than a year and they do not recognise the phone manufactured by them.
This raises a few questions on Nokia's work ethics:
    1. Do they test the applications they make available to the public.
    2. Do they want us to pay for even their errors which we test as faulty? They should be paying us for testing for them and the inconvenience caused.
    3. A phone is only to be used in the county of purchase. If you go abroad, buy a new phone.
If you have faced any similar problems, please share with all of us. I do not think Nokia is listening but we can create our own community to fight against this wrong-doing of Nokia. We buy expensive phones which then are money-minting and money laundering option for Nokia.
    Thanks a ton for listening.

While this is frustrating and as the previous poster has mentioned it is a common problem.
However, both my desktop machine and my laptop are running Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate Service Pack one, I am though running the 32-Bit version of Vista becuase it is less hassle with drivers.
Previously I was running the "gold" version of Vista.
Other than a small installation problem on my Laptop, I have had no problem updating a large number of handsets with either computer.
Lets have a look to see if we can resolve the problem or at least get some way forward.
You are not the only one that has had problems, and I'm not the only one that hasn't had problems. Unfortunately this problem could probably occour under any operating system including windows XP.
It could be that there is some software conflict on your machine that is causing the services that the updater is using to fail. Sometimes it helps to create a new windows user profile, and use as little background applications as possible, as windows PCs can use millions of hardware combinations, it could be your USB chipset thats causing a problem or some other kind of internal hardware incompatibility - if you have access to another machine perhaps try installing the NSU application on that and trying with a different machine? I know that with Vista x64 - all your drivers have to be signed, do you have any hardware thats showing as in error?
As for warranty issues, well I'm not able to comment on the Local warranty issues, I know that if you buy a Nikon Camera, with a "Nikon Worldwide Warranty" in Japan, and then return to the UK for example, then Nikon UK wont touch your camera at all if it goes wrong. So Nokia are not the only company that enforce a country rule - its quite possibly because manufacturers do not like grey imports of their products. (even though yours is not a grey import) Just checking the warranty terms on a SonyEricsson handset and a similar clause is listed, but it cites that the internal parts may not be similar to one sold in the country that it was not purchased in, and hence unrepairable in your new country.
With a Nokia Phone, in the European Union it is EU wide warranty. The terms of the Austrailian Warranty are here: http://www.nokia.com.au/A4521194 however it does say: "This Limited Warranty is only valid and enforceable in the country where you have purchased the Product provided that it is intended for sale in that country."
A similar line is detailed in the Indian Warraty terms here: http://www.nokia.co.in/A4536240
I'm not 100% sure but you may be able to get service from an agent in India, if you are willing to mail your handset to an Indian service centre should you not wish to pay for it (although postage may be more than the price you were quoted)
Previous expierence of Nokia Care Telephone assistance tells me that they will tell you pretty much anything - and like most companies its too easy to blame someone elses product, though its perhaps reassuring that its the same on the other side of the world
Hope I have been able to help you in some way.
    Shunts...

  • N95 connection with Toyota TNS510 Nav disconnects ...

Recently bought Toyota Verso incl. a SatNav TNS510. The N95 should be able to work with th BT connection according all spec-sheets.
The sheets mention older Firmwire versions (I am using the V31.0.017).
After the initial connection, it is interrupted after about 20 min. (sometimes when signal when battery is full loaded).
The reconnection after restarting fails and can only be accomplished by simultaneous connection of TNS510 and N95. Still the connection is only temporary.
I tried a 6300 model and this one does not give any problem.
I expect a bouncing answer from Toyota and it must be due to the N95 seeing other phones don't have this problem. I can't find any issues by googling.
Maybe someone knows and it is just about a setting?
    Bart

    Bart,
If you check the Toyota compatibility site, you will see that the N95 doesn't work with TNS510. Check this site: http://techdoc.toyota-europe.com/bluetooth/search.aspx
I face exactly the same problem when pairing my E71 with my TNS510. It can connect when setting it up, but next time entering the car is disconnects, so I have to start up the connection procedure manually each time.
Also, I face that it disconnects without notice after e.g. ½ hour or so from time to time. Also, when receiving a SMS it disconnects.
Talking to Nokias support in Denmark, they are aware that with E71 there are a number of connectivity issues via Bluetooth, but despite of their friendly associates, they are not able to solve this. The best advice the Nokia associate could provide was to contact some of their business centre, who install the car-kit equipments, to see if some of them working with this in practice had solved the issue.
I did - and spoke to 5 of them - and two of them said, that the E71 runs with Bluetooth 2.0, and if the TNS510 runs Bluetooth 1.2 - it makes problems. Despite that 2.0 units should be backwards compatible, - it won't, they said.
I have tried to connect with a Nokia 6500 to my TNS510, and it works perfect. Checking the technical specs at Nokias website - it says the 6500 runs BT 1.2!!!.
Checking the Toyota website - there is a compatibility site, where you can check if your mobile works with your TNS510. A green "check" if OK, and a red cross if it doesn't. Checking my E71, it has red crosses for all the 8-10 features that apply, and the 6500? - a nice green check!.
Picking up a random list of all mobile phones with red crosses - they are BT 2.0, and the ones with green checks - they are BT 1.2.
Back into the TNS510 250-pager manual - no info about BT version, but my - in any cases premier class -Toyota dealer checked it out with the Danish Toyota importer, and the answer was, - ? Yes, you are right: BT 1.2!!
So, I'm convinced that it is here the issue is based. The BT 1.2 in the TNS 510 simply doesn't work with the BT 2.0 in the E71!
The Nokia Business centre - both - said to me, that it was quite unlikely that the TNS510 was running BT 1.2, as it is quite new - launched in the end 2008/start 2009 - and this older technology was left years ago, in accordance to the specialists.
Back asking my super Toyota dealer - he spoke to the importer - to find out two things: 1. Why it runs BT 1.2?, and 2: Is it possible to get the TNS510 upgraded into BT 2.0? (because in accordance to Nokia you can't downgrade your E71 from BT 2.0 to BT 1.2).
The answer to running 1.2. was, that the navigation system - which is a part of TNS510 is connected to the engine computer system, and allowing the BT 2.0 to the Bluetooth part of the TNS510 it would create potential risk for interruption in the engine computer system - from virus or likely bad things from the E71- cause BT 2.0 is a more open and speedy connection than the BT 1.2. I have no reasons to believe that my dealer is giving me wrong information, but I have major difficulties in understanding why the manufacturer of the TNS510 isn't able to separate the Bluetooth part from the navigation part of the unit. We got a man at the Moon in '69, and safe back, and Toyota can't get this to work 40 years after.......
About upgrading TNS510 into Bluetooth 2.0, - the answer was that there was no actual plans :-(
However, my Toyota dealer meet up with the usual spirit of complete customer satisfaction, and said that the right and formal way was to raise a "technical notification" to the importer, which will be gathered together and provided to the European Toyota centre in the end. And so he has done, and I'm just hoping that it will make a change.
So, - Dear suffering TNS510 fellows, including you Bart! - If you face the same issue between your Toyota Navigation System TNS510 and your E71 (or any other Bluetooth 2.0 phones - Nokias N and E series are in general running BT 2.0), and realise that it is caused from BT 1.2 and BT 2.0 incompatibility - please go to your Toyota dealer, and ask him to raise a "technical notification". As more we are in Europe who make this claim - as higher attention we can bring into this issue from Toyotas side - leading Toyota into solving our problems in upgrading the TNS from Bluetooth 1.2 to Bluetooth 2.0.
Enjoy your Toyota trip - well connected between your TNS510 and your E71 some day in the future!

  • Nokia N95-8GB, won't play Apple Lossless.

    Hello All,
I have a large number of tunes ripped to Apple Lossless (via iTunes). I've tried everything I can think off, but my new N95 just won't play them. There are two problems: a) the tracks end up on the device as "Artist:Unknown" and "Album:Unknown". and b), the tracks won't play on the phone (the elapsed time just sticks at -:--).
Nokia Music Manager either just hangs or copies the tracks to the phone. ANd I get the same results if I copy from my PC via "Data Transfer" on the USB.
Does anyone know how I can get these files onto the phone so that it'll play 'em? Or can anyone recommend a better format-changer so that I can downgrade them.
    Cheers,
    John

People in the know use analog....
But regardless, Apple Lossless is yet another compression algorithm as such it will tamper with the audio quality.
Not to get into that debate, but if you think you are getting "lossless" you are "clueless". In a good way, we are the victims of the storage problems.
To accurately depict real sound, you will need infinite amounts of bandwidth and storage.
So now that we have settled that, what we are talking about is how much is "good enough quality".
What can people REALLY perceive. I'll bet good money that if you record the same song in different codecs and bitrates you will be hard pressed to find people that can pick any codec over another at over 300 kbps. At this bitrate it's very difficult to tell MPEG4 AAC to MPEG-1 Layer 3, or eAAC+, never mind WAV or Apple Lossless.
If you don't believe me try it. encode the same song into MPEG4 AAC, MP3, eAAC+ at 300 kbps then also put the WAV and Apple lossless. Create a playlist and play them back through a good set of headphones or home stereo system at random or with someone else selecting the different versions. BTW if your pair of headphones cost you less than 200 pounds then you won't be able to tell the difference.

Early versions of Nokia Maps stored maps in Private/20001f63/diskcache whereas later versions store in E:/Cities/diskcache. You can have both folders on memory card, but Maploader v1.3.5 wants to also use E:/Cities for maps with Nokia Maps 2.0 Beta which can cause problems.
