N95 GPRS MAP LOCATON PROBLEMS

Hi,
Ive just recently brought the N95 and I am having problems with the GPRS location.
I have followed the manual but I just cannot get it to work.
Everytime I go into the 'Map' to check my location I keep getting a message saying 'No Network Connection'. I have spoken to my network provider (O2) and the details are correct. I can access and browse the web but unable to find my location on the GPRS Map.
Any Idea's???
Thanks

No network connection means it's trying to connect to the internet - possibly to download maps if they haven't been downloaded to the handset before (I think I was prompted to download a map the first time I started the application and this took some time.)
But generally it tries to connect to the internet ever time you open the Maps application so as to be able to access extra features such as downloading info when you ask it to do a search on local attractions, hotels, etc.
When the No network connection message appears just OK / Skip it and it should continue to the Maps application. (I think it just means that it hasn't connected to a wireless network access point - when I first start the App it seems to scan for WLAN and then shows me the name of my WiFi Access Point and I click Select to connect to it. If I'm not within range of a WiFi access point I get the message you are getting and I just Skip past it and continue with the app.)
If you want you can then check: Settings - Network within the app.
I have mine set to:
Use Network: When needed.
Default Access Point: Easy WLAN
Roaming warning: On
If you do not have a WiFi access point near you you can select a different Default Access Point such as Contract WAP. (Or you can set the Use Network to Never and do without some of the extra features and you shouldn't get your error message.)
To save time downloading maps for the UK (or for other countries if you travel) use the free Nokia Maps Downloader to pre load them on your phone using your PC. http://www.nokia.co.uk/A4353385
NOTE: Even after you have maps loaded and even if you have connected to a WLAN network you may still have to wait up to 20 mins for the phone to lock onto the satellite signals for the first time.
It can be done from inside the house near a window but for best results get a nice cold drink and go and sit in the garden away from tall buildings - slide the keypad open and hold the phone at a 45 degree angle or just leave it open sitting on a table.
Enjoy your cold drink....
Check the phone every few minutes - some people may get a lock quicker than others.
You can go to Options - View - Satellite Info at any time and it will show you which satellites have been detected and their signal strength. I think you need a strong signal from 5 satellites to get a GPS lock - when checking mine I had no lock with 3 strong signals and 2 weak ones.
Eventually the satellite dish in the bottom right of the screen will not have the red cross beside it and the map should have zoomed in to your current GPS position.
Once you have a good satellite lock for the first time the phone should lock on to them much quicker when the Maps application is opened in the future. I find I can connect very quickly from my home and it gets a great signal sitting on the passanger seat of the car.
One thing I did notice however was that I drove 50 miles to a friends house then started the Maps up and it took ages to lock on to the satellites again - subsequent restarts at that location where quick once again. Seems if you change location by some distance then start the GPS it takes a time to relocate the satellites.
To have fun with GPS use the FREE Sports Tracker application from Nokia:
http://research.nokia.com/research/projects/SportsTracker/
Use it to track your car / train / bike / walking / running route, then import the data to Google Earth and see your route with speeds etc. It's strickingly accurate down to actually having the route on the correct side of the road and tracking my car turning up my drive and parking at the rear of my house to within a few feet of accuracy!
Anto.

Installing ios 8.2 does not resolve Google map navigation problem.

I have tried to install both of them lots of times but in each case I receive the same in my XE.bat file:
    Instance created.
    DIM-00019: create service error
O/S-Error: (OS 1387) Unable to add or remove a member from the local group because this member does not exist.
Have checked OS 1387 error at Microsoft Support and as possible cause of the problem they give as follows:
This issue can occur if the environment has a disjointed namespace (i.e. the domain has different NetBIOS and DNS names). For example, assume that the domain has a NetBIOS name of "domain.com" and a DNS name of "domain-old.com." When users are added in the Windows UI, they are displayed in the format of domain\ComputerName. However, you notice in the error log that there was an attempt to add a computer account in the format of domain-old\ComputerName. (System Center 2012 R2 Data Protection Manager install fails and generates ID: 4323: "A member could not be added")
Tried to find out my DNS name, but it is impossible because I don't have any domain installed and my machine is not connected to it. Some other blog (Install Oracle 11gR2 on Windows) advices to work with adding my computer account to some non-real windows domain (just for the purpose of resolving the network) as well and reinstall the database then. If I undestand it right I need minimum 2 machines for this. But I own just one, where the server is based and thought that is enough to run the database... no idea ..

  • Nokia N95 8Gb Maps V2.0 problems.

I have had the new Nokia N95 8Gb for just over 2 weeks - I had it from my local Carphone Warehouse in Broughton (near
Chester). The problems I have with Nokia Maps V2.0 are as follows :-
    1. Very slow on calculating a route - I am visiting numerous factory sites around the UK, so I saved the postcodes. On this particular occassion, I wanted to plan a known route home from one of the sites (53 miles), and I was nearly home when it had planned the route.
    2. When a route has been calculated, the cursor showed itself just to the side of the road I was on, thus telling me I was not on a road.
    3. Keeps changing the orientation - from pointing in the diretion I want to go (forward), to the direction I have been (backwards).
    4. Planned road display changes from full width to narrow line - at this point, it no longer knows where it is and tries to recalculate route until the road changes back to full width.
I looked at the various forums (both Nokia and others), and there are many threads reporting the problems I have described above. I tried all of the suggestions including :-
    1. Switching off Assisted GPS - in the Positioning methods - seemed to make no difference.
    2. Use an external GPS receiver - much better in locating position, but still the same problems in reliability detailed above.
    3. Switched off the go online when starting up Nokia Maps - this just made locating position take much longer.
    4. Full hard reset of the phone, twice - no improvement.
    5. Download Nokia Maps V2.0 and re-install - no improvement.
The overriding conclusions from the various forums was that Nokia Maps V2.0 is a backward step and that Nokia Maps V1.2 was so much better. As a consequence, I downloaded Nokia Maps V1.2 and loaded this up. I used it for a 400 mile round trip with no problem at all - directions were clearly displayed, route calculation was quick and it never lost it's position. Unfortunately, I can only use the route planning for 3 days - free test from Nokia when I connected to see licence details. The
only issue I have is that as my car has Bluetooth, I cannot use the voice navigation whilst using Nokia Maps, however, this is not an issue as I just keep checking the screen.
As I am pretty reliant on being able to get to the various sites without complications, there is no way that I will reload Nokia Maps V2.0 until I can be assured of its reliability. Unfortunately, I can not use the route
planning either as my licence relates to Nokia Maps V2.0. What I want is to either transfer my 2 licences to Nokia Maps V1.2, or have a refund for Nokia Maps V2.0 and then purchase licences for Nokia Maps V1.2.
Any assistance would be gratefully received. I have been in contact with Nokia Care who have suggested reloading maps 2.0, however I have already done this. They now suggest updating the phone software, however, it is at v 30.0.018 (pre-loaded) which is the latest version. I am due to take it in to my local Nokia Care Centre tomorrow and let them look at it.

  • Nokia n95 maps licence problem and gps not working

hi i have n95 and i formated it all and it's mass memory, now when i open maps i don't find my license, also i can't update it, i can't dowload maps for my phone, so i can't navigate without internet, also gps lock not  working
and when i use pc suite to downlad maps like before it don't work it send me to lumia here maps that it dont on my n95 8gb  because nokia abandoned the best symbian and used the bad lumia,  so they delete symbian so users change to lumia, and i  say no
help me get maps back and preload maps without internet
i formated my phone manytimes and i used nokia software update and still no solution for  me
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Now, you have old cities/qf on your phone because you started with Maps 2.0 which used incompatible map data. Please, on your phone delete the folder cities and the file qf. These are in the at the start (root directory) of your storage. Then on your phone, open Maps and browse a bit around. That re-creates cities/qf. Now try the Nokia Suite again. Does it show the countries? Good. Now it should work. If not, please, report.

Now that webpage make sense. The button in the PC Suite links to the Nokia Map Loader. Anyway, nowadays one should use the Map Loader of the Nokia Suite because it supports very large maps.

  • N95 GPRS Web problem

I got N95 with v.12.xxxxx firmware. GPRS and Wifi connections for Internet connections.
All aplications are working well with WiFi connection, but with GPRS connection all Internet applications working well (Profimail, Fring, Morange) except bultin Web application or Opera Mini which start connect but doesn't download any pages from any server. With same GPRS connection Profimail application download mail from various servers.
    Any idea?

Have you tried browsing to other pages?, or do you always try the same page?
Some operators can "block" access to webpages for their customers.
Try navigating to a common page like the operator home page or Google.com or Yahoo.com or FT.com. Does it also fail?

  • N95 Maps License problem

    Hi all!
I purchased a 3 month license for maps, then updated the software on my phone. I got a license key when I purchased but when I try to re register the navigation feature by entering the key I get the message "License key already in use". I don't understand why this is happening and was wondering if anyone else has experienced this or if there's another way of activating the feature using my license key.
    Thanks in advance

  • N95 Nokia Maps 2.0 crashing

    Help !
Last week I updated the firmware on my unbranded N95 to the latest 21.0.016 and udated Nokia Maps, then went a drive in the car to use the free trial and it worked perfectly.
As I was going on holiday at the start of the week, I purchased the 30day useage and also the traffic info update.
On Monday we set of on our holidays, we stopped at a service station and before leaving I put on Nokia Maps, within minutes it had pinpointed my location, but it kept asking to close my current connection and every time i did it the phone turned off!
If i selected no, it would let me select my destination and then crash!
I have lots of applications installed, so i removed anyone that used the GPS function (ie Picture locator) and it still does not work.
The only items that remain live (that I know of) when the phone is on is Step Counter & M-Panel, i removed M-Panel and turned of Step Counter and it does not make any difference at all.
I am annoyed that I have spent money and I cant use it, also the Traffice Info never worked anywhere I went, it kept saying (not availabe). Even when on M74 & M6
I went on to Nokia FAQ when I came back from holidays and it is a known problem,
I have re-installed Nokia Maps 2.0 and maps / voices but it still crashes.
    Has anyone experienced this?

    N95-1 with LATEST FIRMWARE
    & "Nokia_Maps_2.0_2204_3.1_u.sis"
    UPDATE:
Now MAPS 2.0 loads perfectly connecting to WIFI LAN but as I zoom in closer as I get to street view it crashed out eveytime. and zooming into recent find the same.
    Tried GPS ASSISTED, crashes out
Tried Just Network BAsed but crashes the same.
And before I was able to do everything except LIVE GPS Voice Assisted guidance but it would PREVIEW the Journey and the Voice used to work, its now totally unusable.

  • N95 8gb BT Connection Problem With BMW 5 series

    Hello everyone,
I hope someone could help me with this. I just got my N95 8 gb & I have tried to connect my phone to my BMW58610 BT but it seems like it constanly drop ny itself & then coneecting again & drop & connect. I do not know how to get this problem fix. 20.2.005 30-04-08 RM-421.
And then sometimes one folder will be missing by itself for example the n-gage folder will disappear & then it will come back within seconds or maps folder will disappear & will appears back.
I would really appreciate any suggestions or help!

I had a situation whereby my N95 8gb will connect to my iDrive and sometimes after a while, when I make a call, I can hear the person I am calling but they can't hear me. This is what I have learnt from trial and error since.
I tried everything to resolve this so I am not sure which actually fixed it so I'll tell you all I did. I updated firmware on both phone (V20) and car. Deleted all pairings on both phone and car. Repaired. I must have deleted pairings and repaired at least half a dozen times before the problem mysteriously disappeared.
Another thing I have noticed is, it is better to leave the phone for a few minutes after it has connected, to allow it to download all the contacts before using it. I have had the bluetooth disconnect or the HUD malfunction when I use the phone straight away.
I had to do the same with my N96 before it would work satisfactorily. My N80, however had no such problems. Strange.

  • Map Loader Problem

    Hello everybody.
I installed maps  3.0 beta on my N95.  I used map loader to download new map and voices data yesterday.
Everything worked, I used navigation in my car and maps 3 looks very good.
But today, I wanted to change the voice for navigation to english, so I started up Maploader (I know I know, I can change the language directly on my phone, that's not the problem)
Only the beginning screen of map loader (version 3) is showing - the application does not go further than that screen.
I restarted my phone, restarted my laptop but nothing changes...
Can anyone help me... as i want to install new maps on my n96 too...
    thanks!

you might need to reinstall the software compnents on your computer and try again

  • N95-2 Maps data missing

Hi, I had downloaded Asia and Europe maps 2 days ago. It was working fine this morning but then all the maps data disappeared. I can only see the green background and the landmarks....... have anyone encountered this problem ?

Very strange. Never had this happen before. The maps may have gotten corrupted for some reason. Did you try downloading the maps again?

  • N95 Warning - Map software may be useless

Warning: If you have a Nokia N95 and it did not come with an extra memory card, your mapping software cannot be used until you pay the extra for a card.
Some companies, such as T-Mobile, are selling Nokia N95 without a card. No problem, you think - 160MB must be enough to last me for ages! After all I want to do is to load on my one country (which is a fraction of that) and maybe a ring tone or two.
However the software DEMANDS that maps must go onto an extra memory card and cannot be loaded onto the 160MB of main memory, even if there is plenty available.
Note that this information is not on the box. If it is on the Nokia web site, I couldn't find it, and the store staff when specifically asked if I needed a card for maps said no, the maps should fit onto the main memory.
Please be aware of this if you are considering purchasing a N95.
This information was confirmed with Club Nokia, speaking to Mike. If you want to confirm this, the reference number is 1-127740290

Well I somehow managed it, unless I've misunderstood what you are saying? I didn't get a memory card with my N95 (I've got one on order), and I've download maps on mine. I even set a route between Cambridge and Peterborough and ran a navigation simulation on it. And with voice.Message Edited by preludecrazy on 19-Apr-200701:32 PM

  • N95 Missing Map Data

I have just upgraded my N95 to the latest firmware and to the latest mapping software. I have also updated the Map Loader to the latest version. I then deleted all the maps from my N95 using the Map Loader software and (apparantly) successfully loaded maps from England, Scotland, Wales, Italy, France and Germany.
The problem is that when I try to use the maps only the high level roads and features are there. When I connect to the web, I can see MB's of data steaming down to fill in the missing bits. Likewise, there are no routes and these have to be downloaded in real time.

Well Nokia own Navteq now so i would just keep on reporting it until they get their finger out.

  • N95 Installed Maps Software Glitch

    Hi,
I just bought a new N95 couple of days back. I clicked on the MAPS icon and the software seems to load only 30% and then returns to the menu screen . I was wondering if anyone had similar problems and how do you resolve this
    Thanks
    Yogithebear

    Hi yogithebear
Carrying out a hard reset returns phone to out of the box condition. If you have a microSD memory card for your phone just back up phone data to it and restore afterwards. Sometimes using PC Suite it can let you down when it comes to restoring.
For your licensed software did you download the .sis to your PC and install via PC Suite with activation code being emailed to you, in which case you can re-inatall software and re-activate?

  • X6 OVI Maps Update Problem

I recently bought new X6 and connected to my Laptop (windows 7 Professional) running latest Nokia Ovi Suite version 2.2.1.23 to check for update. I updated the available updates for the software including OVI Maps successfully. Then tried to check for updated maps data. I got message the updated maps are available and was prompted to update. It deleted all existing maps data and failed to update new maps data. Now after several trials I am unable to download maps data thru OVI suite and have to download only thru data package or wireless connection. I even tried un-installing and re-installing OVI Suite and even tried deleting Cities folder manually and then again running maps application in mobile to create new directory but all in vain. I am still unable to download maps data thru OVI suite and PC suite (I tried with latest PC suite as well). Same problem, I am experience with my N95. Please advise solutions if any.

Delete cities folder as well as the qf one... and retry with PC Suite after rebooting the phone......if this is of no use.. Download the Maps installer from
http://maps.nokia.com/services-and-apps/ovi-maps and install on your phone and then download maps...
