N95 GPS charge?

Hey guys just wondering if you get charged for using your gps on an N95? Does anyone know? Coz when i look at my downloaded maps it shows the 2 arrow connection symbol like when using the phones web.
Also it shows the same symbol when connected to my wlan box. Am i being charged for web browsing?
Thanks
Clark

Hi Clark
It will always try to establish a "network connection" unless you disable it, of course if WLAN is your access point then there is no charge!

Most likely you will be able to use the ACP-12E with AC-44 adapter. Atleast it works on N80, E65 etc.
The ACP-7E will however not work, in this instance.
    Thank you for your answer.
Can you please explain why the ACP-7E won't work, but the ACP-12E will?
Besides, I don't have ACP-8E or ACP-9E, and I guess that if I have to buy a new charger (I need two - one at home and one at work) I'll buy the same model that came with my phone originally. That's why I am trying to figure out if any of the old chargers I have will work and won't damage the phone, not the battery.

  • Nokia N95 GPS Navigation

    Dear All,
I am James and recently bought a Nokia N95. It comes with GPS Navigation but not sure how it works. Looked in the user manual but still not idea of how to work it. I have played around with it and downloaded Google Maps but find it difficult to get a reception.
I want to know how to download maps onto it, what connection is needed and how it actually works?
    Any ideas?
    regards
    James

    Hi,
I'm just back from the US were i used the GPS a good bit. like most GPS's, Navigation on the N95 told me to turn right then left on on straight roads with intersections (watch out for this, always look at the map before turning as you'll see that the route line is straight on screen), sent me down bizarre side roads, never went the same route to a place as it did going back (very strange), but other that that was very handy.
The one major bug I'd like to report is in v20 of the firmware (can't say for others versions), despite disabling network communication in the settings, the phone would still startup my GPRS data pack connection while roaming. Even when I set it to use Wi-Fi, it still made a connection over GPRS. I work out it cost me about a €10 in unnecessary data charges. Easy test to see if you get the same problem: Startup Maps and say no to data usage, exit or Press Menu, Tools, Log. You should see that a Data pack connection was initiated at the same time you started the Maps App. The only way around this I found was to set the phone to offline mode. But you might as well buy a proper GPS if this is the only solution.
    Good luck!
I had exactly the same problem. Once activated, network mode could not be turned off and it cost me around $50 in a day and a half.
As soon as I tried to shut it down in Maps>Options, it either shut down maps or rebooted my phone.
Keep network support off, is my recommendation.
To cure the problem, I had to reload my firmware and software...everything but settings. If you reload settings, you reload the problem.
I spend hours today doing just that. Settings are probably the least important part of my phone history so it wasn't too big of a deal and the effort was totally worth it to save me mega cash while using maps.

  • N95 GPS Postcode search...ONLY 4 digits

Uk searches when offline (not using your data connection and therefore costing you money) only offer 4 postcode digits, not 7... thereby resulting in not found addresses, or addresses ten miles away....
why is there not a full postcode search in the downloaded maps?

    Hi Binkey,
At last - someone who does not find this good enough. I have been barking away at this for a few days now.
I am unsure why this is the case WRT postcode search and network connection... and if you have come from TTN6 or a TomTom all in one unit, you instinctively go for postcode and door number search, which 99% of the time will get you to exactly where you want to go, without the need to connect to any network - unless you use traffic, weather etc where you do need to connect.
Obviously you have to fill in door number, road name and town to get where you want to using maps, which in all honestly does get you to your destination, but it just takes that bit longer to set destination... but don't get me wrong, I'm not defending this (lack of) function, only stating the workaround.
As scoob says, I think when we all start recieving our bills with excessive data charges we may start thinking twice about using maps and start hounding TomTom to hurry up with the patch to utilise the internal GPS unit of the N95... unless Nokia aknowledge this flaw and rectify with the next version of maps - hint hint Nokia!!Message Edited by luckieb on 26-Apr-200709:37 PM

  • N95 GPS (2)

    Hi,
Basically can the gps on the n95 be used without the user being charged a penny?

Yes, if you turn off A-GPS, load all the maps via MapLoader and a PC, and do not do any searches or other functionality that require going online such a buying voice guidance or city guides (or do so only when in reach of a free Wi-Fi/WLAN network).

  • GPS charges on 5800???

Hi, I have just installed a 16 day free trial of Viewranger on my 5800 for use when I am out Mountain Biking to log my route and use as a map. Obviously for this to be effective, I have to have the GPS running. What I want to know because 02 CAN NOT give a guarenteed answer is, will I get charged for having the GPS running while I am out on a ride for about 2 hours?  I have unlimited internet (browsing, 02 active) if that makes any difference?

    Hi mikeevans15
Assisted GPS feature only needs to download 2-5 kbs of data for a positional fix, so can't you check in phone log the amount of data downloaded in say 30 minutes and I am sure that you will find it negligible. As "grschinon" has mentioned o2 can't discriminate what type of data you are downloading and you could always disable "Assisted GPS" feature in "Positioning methods" as ViewRanger doesn't need internet connection unless you are utilizing Buddy Beacon"

  • [N95] GPS Question

    Hi,
I got an unlocked N95 (US), I updated to latest firmware and everything works fine with the GPS. I can lock the satellites and get an accurate position of my location.
I am planning a trip to another state and to speed up downloads I downloaded and installed Nokia Map Loader v1.1 in my PC and tried to download the new State without success. The steps I followed were:
1.- Connect the N95 via USB and select Mass Storage
2.- Run Nokia Map Loader and select the State I want to download
    3.- Click download
    I got the following messages:
    - Verifying Mass Storage
    - A downloading progress bar that fills up completely
    - The Save to storage bar never moves and the window with it closes
    - Verifying Mass storage message again
    - Error message: Mass Storage had been disconnected, connect it and try again.
The disk never disconnects, actually I an see it all the time under My PC
I tried different states, countries with similar results.
    Any idea what is happening?
    Thanks

    Hi seti
I don't whether this has anything to do with the fact that you are using the latest version of Maploader v1.1, but the latest version of Nokia Maps 1.1 is NOT currently available for the N95 if you check Smart2go site. It has been reported elsewhere that this is due to a problem in "licnce manager" soon to be reolved.

  • Totally lost about N95 GPS. Help!

Hi. I just recently bought a N95 and I know nuts about the GPS thing. When I open maps, I see this picture of a globe with a small icon of a satellite with a cross on it (I presume I am not connected to it). When i view satellite info, I am able to pick something up.
When I rotate the globe and then press the GPS pos button, it focuses on Europe which Im not at (not zoom in).
Btw, Im from Singapore and im using Starhub network.
Can anyone help me? Im totally lost.

    Hi frostshardz
Firstly if you are using v12.0.013 or later software on your N95 it is a lot quicker to obtain fix with A-GPS feature, although an active connection via WLAN or Network is needed.
Go outside away from buildings and tress with clear view of sky. Open slider and hold phone at 45degrees, don't cover "#" key as GPS antenna beneath it. Low cloud or rain will make satellite acquisition a lot longer.
If you go to Menu > Tools > GPS data > (searching for + calculating data) > Position > Options > Satellite status
This shows any number of satellites up to five - empty rectangle = not locked on - black filled rectangle = signal acquired; you need a minimum of 3 solid bars for lock-on and triangulation to work.
Once satellites are locked on you should be able to zoom into your position provided that active connection has been set to "as needed" rather than "never" in options > settings in Maps application, to allow download of sufficient map detail.

  • N95 GPS receiver is NOT a SIRFF quality receiver

    Dear all,
I have at last decided to claim for a money back for the N95 ánd for the subscription to 3y for Nokia Maps(which i could never use, since the poor GPS receiver never gets a lock with any satellites!)
Before you ask: yes, i upgraded firmware, yes i did even have wifi turned on in an attempt to 'help' the N95 do the routing calculation, and yes I turned off any other interfering applications. And, no: the N95 never gets a fix without first making me wait over 45 minutes (by then I am usually already at my destination)
Interesting to know is that Nokia callcenter declared 'to have nothing to do with Nokia Maps Subscription', even though I subscribed becáuse I wanted to enable voice guided routing with the N95- still: if I wanted thát money back, they warned me I had to go get it at the Maps people that delivered it to us customers. So much for service. So much for Nokia!!

    Dear all,
I bought the phone less than 28 days ago, but Tmobile won't refund me my money since:
    a) they only do refunds within 7 days(and not 28 days)
    b) they are not officially aware of 'malfunctioning GPS' and therefore deem the phone as a working phone (basically shift the problem back to Nokia as the producer and me as the consumer)
I absolutely understand that the company behind Nokia maps is NOT Nokia itself. However, it ís through Nokia's website that i was 'urged' to link up to Nokia Maps and subscribe if I wanted voice guidance (as opposed to no voice at all). So i understand the Nokia maps people have nothing to do in this: their software wórks, and THEY can't help it if the Nokia GPS doesnt perform well!!
However, I ám tricked in subscribing to Nokia Maps -by- Nokia (its website), believing (back then) that it would really help me in starting using the Navigator feature.
Had I known that the GPS receiver was of such poor quality, it goes without saying that I would have never subscribed to the 3y Nokia Maps voice navigator, let alone buy the phone N95 itself.
So, I dó think Nokia has brought the whole issue down to me, and I do think I was tricked in buying 2 products I would never have if I had known that the N95 wouldn't get to navigate in the first place.

  • Nokia N95 - GPS dos not work & Barcode Scan not wo...

Hi.. I have Nokia N95 (N95-1 by user manual) - device firmware soft version
    11.0.026
    17-04-07
    RM-159
    Nokia N95(05.01)
When i try use "GPS position" application or "Maps" it's dos not work. All ways i see - "no connected" in status (in my home, in street and other open places). In all times that i'am user my N95 only one time by command "Satellites State" y have screen with 2 satellite (~5second) and other time allways "No Data or No Connected Satellites".
Q: Whats the problem - it's that Qaulite(or Strong) of GPS(for that needed like it GPS)? or it's defect and GPS must work avrever (and home, and on street)
When i try use application "Barcode Reader" - it's no one times dos not readed barcode? Only try? and try, and try... all times?
Q: Why dos not work? who see worked "Barcode reader"?
    Thank to ALL..
    (with love from Russia)
Nokia! Take a care for me and we real say THANK YOU NOKIA and you can collect a more money

First of all , you should update to the newest firmware (v20). If you can of course, for some network branded phones update is not available yet.
As for GPS, first fix is taking a long time (5 to 10 minutes).
In v12 and above A-GPS (assisted GPS) was added to speedup the process. It's using data connection for initial lock.
And make sure you're not covering tha hash key, that's where GPS reciever is. It will get a fix, just be patient because it will take some time.
Barcode reader is not for reading normal barcodes (like on products). It's used for Nokia's mobilecodes. You can check it here

  • Nokia N95 GPS

Hi people....I bought a brand new N95...and the first thing i did was GPS thing....
Here's the problem....i guess many of us have the same problem...
I'm running everything as i should...i got 4 Empty bars of satellites...i'm waiting for them to turn Black and full for 30 min...but no success...
I'm opening "Maps" and there's a red cross on the satellite...when i move the cursor it says gps positioning or smth like that...when i press it it goes to some city in germany i think....
So could someone PLEASE tell me how to make this thing work....because i want that most of all...and now it's getting me mad...
P.S.I downloaded all the maps required for my country Macedonia...When i'm looking for navigation on the streets it's ok...BUT WHAT ABOUT MY CURRENT LOCATION ?!?!?!I'm not in berlin for sure
    Thanks in advance

    I'm reffering to v20.0.015
The traffic lights of the sattelite keep moving n' stuff... and after a long time it stays still (ie gets connected..)
Some settings I have in the Positioning are..
    Positioning Methods:
    Not Selected - Bluetooth GPS

  • N95 - GPS cannot connect

    Hi all,
I have just gotten my N95, but i just cannot seem to get the gps to work.
the map of denmark is in place, but the gps cannot find its position, rendering it absolutely useless!
is there anywhere i can help it along, telling it where i am or so?
has anyone had the same problem? i can get no connection to any satelites....

    Hi teepee
I suggest you open GPS data application to monitor situation.
Make sure you are clear of buildings, phone with slider open at 45degrees and don't cover # key on keypad under which antenna resides.
Go to Menu > Tools > Settings > GPS data > Position > Open > Options > Satellite status > Open
You will see 5 empty rectangle outlines, you need a minimum of three solid black rectangles for triangulation, but usually get four for lock-on postion.
If you don't get any solid bars by 20 mins your GPS isn't working!
