N95 GPS maps for Iceland

Hi all
I have tryed the Nokia Map loader and I find alot of maps but Iceland in not there. Do you know if I can grap it somewhere or do I haveto use a 3rd party software for GPS ?
Regards from Iceland

Hi there,
Does anyone know of any updates on this? I am happy to use the non-navigable maps for now as I have a good road map (but a terrible sense of direction!). Would be really useful to be able to download whatever maps there are beforehand. I have been browsing the map over a WiFi connection on an N78 and quite a lot of data comes down. Map Loader doesn't list Iceland so I can't seem to download anything that way.
Aggh!
Any ideas?
Many thanks,
Oliver

  • Why aren't there any English GPS maps for Japan?

I mean, why? There are GPS maps for almost every developed country, but for Japan there are none that i know of (neither Navteq nor Teleatlas, which are the two major cartography companies out there).
I've seen several Japanese GPS solutions, but they unfortunately don't have an English option. I've never seen a major company like TomTom or Garmin (among many others), offering a solution for that market.
So, what company does the cartography out there (Navteq or Teleatlas like), and why doesn't TomTom or Garmin use their data in order to develop an English GPS solution? There has to be some kind of logical explanation.
    Kind Regards.

Can you provide an official link for Garmin XT for the N8 and for Japan Road Navi 2.1?
As no doubt you were aware when posting Garmin Mobile Xt is now no longer available:http://www8.garmin.com/support/collection.jsp?product=010-11034-00
Since this is the only way of getting navigation for Japan, Pakistan and Cyprus which Nokia have choosen to avoid providing for with Nokia Maps, presumably you would rather OP was left in ignorance of technical feasibility of it's use upon Symbian devices.
Whereas under your profile it says "Please do not contact me asking for assistance in a personal message (that includes bringing posts to my attention), you will not receive help from me in that way" I have always been happy to provide further guidance should user so request under such situations.

I hard reset my N95, installed the maps fresh (which took a very long time, but that is a different subject, so I won't get going on that)
I then checked if I could do full 7 digit postcode search while at home and still no, with "Network Use" set to "Never"
However, I have now come into the office, defined the wlan acess point (mine is broken at home) and set "Network Use" to "when needed" and I can do full 7 digit postcode search. If I then change that setting to "never" it reversts back to truncating the postcode.
I would appreciate if other N95 owners could confirm that this happens on their N95 too, and if so, it looks like maps is pulling additional info from somewhere to enchance the downloaded map.
You seem to be right. I cleared all the maps, then downloaded the maps for England using maploader and tested it. With network connection you can do full postcode search, but as soon as the internet connection is lost or turned off the system reverts back to truncating the postcode.
If you use the route planner while you have the network connection you can use the full postcode to set the destination point while having the GPS position as your starting point and the destination point gets stored as your destination.

  • Best MMORPG for Iphone 3G and a question about gps maps

    Hi there,
Could anyone tell me what are the best free and paid iphone 3G MMORPG games? And please tell me some positive and negative things in the games.
I didn't know where i could ask this so, i came here to apple forum, because i have subsribed to internet on iphone today. This topic doesn't have anything illegal.
Another thing, does anyone knows if using gps maps through 3g internet, spends a lot of internet trafic? today i've used gps maps for about 12km and it spend me 80kb of trafic. Is this possible? because someone told me that iphone gps spend a lot, but really lot internet trafic. I didn't used sattelite view.

The sattelite view uses far more data, of course - because of the photography it has to download. But the regular map is still a bitmapped image that has to be updated. It's not a massive amount of data, but not insignificant either.

According to my phone I have used 193Mb of my 1Gb memory card. (I don't have any pics/mp3's etc on it only other thing I have installed is Sports Tracker).
That sounds about right - I'm using about 240mb at the moment, and I've a few videos and about 100 images on the card, alongside maps of the UK.

I'm not too sure either. I think it might be in a hidden directory on the card. You might be able to view it if you put the memory card into your computer.

Are these other folders suppose to be on the memory card i.e. data, images, my videos, other, sound clips etc etc?
Yes, that's normal. If you move any of your images, videos etc from the phone memory to the memory card, they'll live in these folders. The phone is set by default to use the memory card for the camera, for example, so new pictures you take once the card is inserted will be added to these folders.

Then after getting it workin, of course Nokia doesn't provide a map for Iceland
Down downloading it from the Smart2go website instead at www.smart2go.com

  • Offline GPS/maps

Does anyone know of any really good offline GPS/maps for traveling to another country? I'll be heading to Rome, Spain, Monaco, Tunisia and Italy next week and Beijing, China in May and I really need some good apps that will help me with directions and places. I'll need an offline GPS for when driving (doesn't have to be that accurate because I know iPhone can't replace an actual GPS), and a map showing public transit system and major places in those countries; other features would be nice too. The app has to be offline because obviously there's no connection outside.
    Thanks!

GPS access does not equal turn by turn directions. Turn by turn directions can be included with a GPS device, but if a GPS device does not include turn by turn directions does not mean it isn't an actual GPS device or does not have a GPS reciever. These are not one in the same. Firmware update 3.0 will support an app that provides turn by turn directions using the iPhone's GPS reciever with maps data stored locally on the iPhone.
Unless you can find an app via the app store that includes the map data you will be needing, you will be out of luck.

  • GPS /MAPS Nokia n95

    Hey, I Got N95,
My MAPS And GPS Ect Dont Seem To Be Picking Upo Anything, They Just Ask For Bluetooth even when i connect to my WLAN nothing happens?
Do i need to download anything?
    Thanks.
    Josh

    Hi joshdaw
I don't think that your mate reformatted phone before giving it to you and it still has some of his chosen settings rather than default one's, as it sounds as if device looking for an external GPS rather than using internal one of your N95.
If you go to Menu > Tools > Settings > General > Personalization - now scroll down to bottom of screen and below "Factory settings" there is "Positioning" - in "Positioning methods" there should a red tick beside Assisted GPS, Internal GPS and Network based. In default setitngs there is NO tick beside Bluetooth GPS.
You would also need to define an Access point for Nokia Maps albeit either your GPRS network connection or WLAN.

Recently I have downloaded new version of Nokia Map software from Nokia website directly to my phone but unfortunately after installation of that version, all map detail information especially for Iran has been deleted and I couldn't restore it even by using Nokia Map loader (Nokia Map Loader doesn't have Iran Map).

  • N 95 maps for GPS

    Hallo all.
I have the problem with maps for the GPS.
Nokia sais on it's WEB-site "Map data is available for more than 150 countries. Navigation is supported for 30 countries".
There is also said that non-navigable maps are available for the following countries in America:
Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Argentina, Aruba, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, Bolivia, Brazil (part of which is not covered by the navegable map), British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Falkland Islands, French Guiana, Grenada, Guadeloupe, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Martinique, Mexico (part of which is not covered by the navegable map), Montserrat, Netherlands Antilles, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Pierre and Miquelon, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, Turks and Caicos Islands, United States Virgin Islands, Uruguay, Venezuela
Map loader that was installed on my computer offers just a few of them. Any idea, how to get the rest? In particular, I need the map of Cuba. Unfortunately local support can't help me on that issue.

When i did try the map loader it gives only the maps which you can use to navigate, i din even know that Nokia does offer the mentioned maps. could anyone please advise how do we get these maps??

  • Why network disabled for GPS / Map of Nokia Commun...

I was coolly using GPS / Map in my blackberry programmed Nokia Communicator E90 through satellite provision (not internet or intranet connection). All of a sudden (may be I have pressed mistakenly in wrong button) from yesterday, whenever I prompt for GPS / Map, it gives a message "Network usage disabled. You can enable it from application settings". But I could not find such application settings in the mobile. I appreciate your proper / step by step guidance to solve this issue.

In the Maps application, hit "Options", choose "Tools" and then "Settings" and check the settings in the "Internet" tab/view.
Check also the actual "Settings" app in the "Tools" submenu, and there "General" then "Positioning" and make sure that at least "Integrated GPS" is checked/enabled ( but I'd also enable "Assisted GPS" ).

I am tring to install new maps for my Garmin Nuvi. I am told by Garmin that I have to update Garmin Communicator, but Firefox 6 tells me that it is not compatible. When is a fix for this to be made available?

  • Nokia 6220 - GPS,Maps,Navigation Question

This may be a silly question but I'm a little confused over this
I am considering buying a 6220 (SIM free), mainly because it's an 'upgraded' version to my existing 6300.
The idea is instead of having a SAT NAV (for the occasional trips to places I've never been before) & a mobile phone & a MP3 player etc - I get an all-in-one in a small package
Now to the question - What is the difference between 'Nokia Maps' and 'Navigation' ?.
Apparently 'Nokia Maps' is free but 'Navigation' isn't
Am I right in assuming that 'Nokia Maps' only shows you where you are & Where you want to go BUT doesn't give constant updates as you drive/walk between the 2 - a bit like if you have a map & ask a passerby to shows you where you are & where you want to go on the map - but doesn't tell you how to get there (you have to figure it out yourself)
BUT 'Navigation' is where you can have it in the car & it tells you the directions ('take next left'/'3rd right at next roundabout' etc) each step of the way i.e. Just like a Car 'SAT-NAV' equivalent
I don't like the idea of paying for a 'satnav/phone/media player' combi-device then paying EXTRA so that you can use it as a SAT-NAV, especially if you only going to use it maybe once or twice in a year.
