N95 Map Loader

Hi
I just downlaoded maploader yesterday after talking to some CSOs and one of them told me anout maploader so i downloaded it. I followed all the instructions and did everything it told me to do. But today when i used it for the first time, when i clicked on the maploader button first time, it worked and i managed to get the map of England.
My problem is that-
1. I can't find the map anywhere
2. When i click on maploader icon now, it says "The map data on your device is not compatible with the map data availabe through Nokia Map Loader
Please help me
Jalloooe

From what i've heard, then yes.
Fire up maps and leave the phone in clear view of the sky. First time around it may take 20 mins or more to get a GPS lock. This I think is because the phone is so many miles away from where it was built and tested that it takes a while to recallibrate.
So go ahead, run the Maps application then go back to Map loader and try again.

  • N95 Map not loading

I have successfully used the GPS and Map application a few times now. I was showing off to a colleague explaining and showing how the GPS worked. The application ran and eventually got good satellite signal but no map. The only thing that I have changed regarding my phone was swapping a micro memery card.
Has anyone any suggestions on how to recover my maps.
    Regards, Matt

  • N95 maps only loads to 30% then disappears

    ok,
i installed a maps update and now maps wont start at all. if i click on maps it only loads to 30%, then just goes back to the menu.
when i looked in apps mgr it said it wasn't installed, so i installed it again only for it to say 'not installed'. thinking the file was the problem i removed the update but its just the same.
if i go to tools/landmarks (i saved the location of my home before the problem occured) then 'show on map', it says 'unable to perform operation. no suitable application installed'.
is there any way i can install the maps application? it seems i've somehow uninstalled the whole maps program?
    anyone able to help?
    thanks.

Try this and donate £1 to any charity if it works for you.
Goto File Manager and delete the "Cities" folder, then start up the Maps application so that it recreates its folder and file structure, then reinstall your map data and voices to the phone using Map Loader. This should do the trick.

  • Map loader not recognizing phone

    Hi everybody;
I have a new N95, updated all the software and have used maps at least once. Well, exactly once. After updating I went out and found a free WLAN and loaded the local map. Now back at my computer the map loader software says no medium detected please connect phone or card reader. My phone IS connected. This is as far as I can get since map loader shuts itself off.
    Ideas?

    Hi jp1159
In what mode is your N95 connected to PC by USB as default mode is "PC Suite" mode when it needs to be in "Data transfer" mode for downloading regional maps?

  • Map Loader Problem

    Hello everybody.
I installed maps  3.0 beta on my N95.  I used map loader to download new map and voices data yesterday.
Everything worked, I used navigation in my car and maps 3 looks very good.
But today, I wanted to change the voice for navigation to english, so I started up Maploader (I know I know, I can change the language directly on my phone, that's not the problem)
Only the beginning screen of map loader (version 3) is showing - the application does not go further than that screen.
I restarted my phone, restarted my laptop but nothing changes...
Can anyone help me... as i want to install new maps on my n96 too...
    thanks!

you might need to reinstall the software compnents on your computer and try again

  • Map Loader doesn't start

    Tittle says it all.
When I try to open Map Loader it gets stuck at the black loading screen. I tried to reinstall it but it still doesn't work.
    I use windows vista.
So if somoene has a solutien for my problem, please post it.
I own a nokia N82 but I don't think that has anything to do with the problem.
    Thx

No "Private" file on my N95 either, and tried all the other tips, to no avail.
I've lost count the number of times I've deleted & down-loaded & repaired this application, and it still doesn't work!! Just sits there, blankly staring at me, blinking "waiting for device"...
One of the main reasons I purchased this phone was to be able to download maps onto my computer - AND IT DOES NOT WORK!!!
What is going on Nokia? Forget all the fancy flash videos, showing us all the fantastic things we can do on our phones and make your damn software work! AAARGH!
And BTW, Nokia you may have crammed a lot of tech into your phone; it may do a lot of things, but mostly, very badly.... rubbish camera, terrible mp3 player, etc.
Right, I have now wasted about 8 hours of my life trying to make this pile of rubbish work, and if i don't throw it out the window first, it's going straight on ebay!
Gets coat and heads for nearest iPhone shop.......

unfortunately no, it does not seem that you can compare the version of map data. strange though, i wouldn't have thought it would be that difficult to include the date of maps in the software. but alas, there is no option anywhere in Map Loader or the Maps application to view this . ohwell, i personally don't see the need to update maps until at least six months/a year in the future anyway. unless the region that you live in is constantly changing and it affects your travel habits, in which case you can see the importance. but i'm happy enough updating every six months/a year (yearly in which new version of Maps is released anyway).
personally, also i think standalone GPS units for cars such as TomTom, Navman etc are much more useful in day-to-day usage for navigation. nothing against Nokia phones, but just for convenience they are much much easier and there is the larger screen which makes things much much easier. for me, the phones are useful in Pedestrian mode or for short distance, non-complicated routes (i.e. few street directions). then again, i also use a paper street directory sometimes as well. just whatever floats your boat i guess

my n95 8gb seems to just hang and constantly say deleting data please wait...
how long should it take? after 15 mins i turned map loader off and hey the maps had been deleted. why does it hang like that?

Could be something else on your computer thats causing it to crash.
Have you updated to the latest 2.x version of map loader from maps.nokia.com?

i formated my phone manytimes and i used nokia software update and still no solution for  me

Now, you have old cities/qf on your phone because you started with Maps 2.0 which used incompatible map data. Please, on your phone delete the folder cities and the file qf. These are in the at the start (root directory) of your storage. Then on your phone, open Maps and browse a bit around. That re-creates cities/qf. Now try the Nokia Suite again. Does it show the countries? Good. Now it should work. If not, please, report.

I had the previous PC Suite.
Now that webpage make sense. The button in the PC Suite links to the Nokia Map Loader. Anyway, nowadays one should use the Map Loader of the Nokia Suite because it supports very large maps.

  • Maps Loader: possible solution

This is the solution that worked for me: 1. Format your memory card; 2. Run Maps in your phone once and terminate it, so the folder structure is generated in the memory card; 3. There are two files called "qf", one in the root folder and another one under /cities/diskcache. Edit both, changing the following line: voice_mode:Viking To: map_mode:Viking 4. Run Map Loader again. I hope that will work for you as well... Take care!

OK now, I have some more info on this topic now.
Firstly after having tried to open MapLoader 1.3 and getting the "uncompatible" message, you do not have to format the SD card.
Only delete the hidden "private" folder and the folder "cities". Then you go and delete the qf file from the root directory of the SD card too.
What is new is that I did this 3 days ago and then downloaded the maps with older MapLoader (1.2.1).
Now, yesterday I deleted folders and qf file again and found out that the new MapLoader (1.3) works too.
It even asks to update the maps before opening.
I did download the maps of the Europe with both versions 1.2.1 and 1.3.
But it was interesting to find out that Europe maps downloaded with 1.2.1 were 1,525 MB, but the maps downloaded with 1.3 were over 1,600 MB. So with new version you get more recent maps.
When opening the Maps program on N95 it marks the Sd card with the qf file (or checks if it exists). It may even be possible that the qf file created with older software (11 or 12) are different from the new version (20) software.

  • Map Loader doesn't see my phone

    Hello.
When I connect my N95 to the PC via USB (in PC Suite mode) and start Nokia Maps Loader program, it just keeps popping "Waiting for device"... Obviously it doesn't recognize my device...
    Why?
    Thank you.

Thanks everyone for the tips. There are a few gaps in the advice however for novices like myself. To fill these in :
    1) You must have a microSD card for the maps loader to work, minimum 2Giga (Nokia maps are by continent and heavy files : 1.3G for Europe or America). You may even find that the Mapsloader application says there's not enough space on your 2Giga card, in which case you have to increase the memory allocation within the maps application on your phone - Maploader will tell you where to find this.
    2) The "data transfer" mode everyone talks about is in the message which pops up in the phone when you connect it to a computer with PC Suite installed, not on the computer itself or in the PC Suite application.
    3) You must have the Maps application activated in the phone before you connect to the computer for MapLoader to recognise the phone.
    4) Upload overnight. The connection is slow, a couple of hours for Europe or America.
    Good luck !

    Hello jamestw
I can help you with the first question. I can say thats normal. I always get that message, but I have no problem with it.
The other qestin might have to do with problems on the map server? Have you tried again? Try re-installing Map Loader!
