N95:Packet Data connection active???

For heavens sake! how do you turn off Packet Data Connection? so I can clear the log counter.. Or is there a way to turn off your access point so you can edit? Or can I just disable internet access? Or do I need to use the dark side of the force, and risk enternal damnation in the afterlife? Message Edited by bigbad on 18-Sep-200709:59 PM

Phew! Cracked it at last. Many thanks to you and others for your efforts in trying to solve the problem with the N95 handset.
In my particular case, the problem was the 'Orange' Camera Application which is easily disabled via the appropriate setting if you can locate that. It seems to log onto a packet data connection every 15 mins or so. Presumably, this is in order to check whether there are any image files to upload/download from/to the handset from an Orange Photo Album etc. The handset camera works perfectly well without this application which merely provides a short cut to other Orange services connected with photography which I and no doubt others could manage without.
This is not an obvious solution although it is indeed caused by non Nokia application software as has been suggested - but presumable approved by Nokia in conjunction with Orange. They seemed to be unaware of this causing a problem, no doubt because many other applications might do likewise and many contracts include these auto connection charges. I hope this information is useful to you. Thank you for your efforts in trying to establish the cause of the problem. This is not entirely all my own work since somewhere on the web the camera was mentioned but I couldn't see the relevance at the time nor what to do with it.
So, if you still have this problem and have disabled all the likely applications that might be going on line every 15 mins or so ... then the answer is to disable the Orange Camera Application. The camera itself will work just fine but if you wish to upload to an Orange photo album etc, you might have to reconnect/enable the Camera Application as and when required.

  • E90 Packet Data Connection Active

When I make a phone call on the E90 I get a beep and then message "packet date connection active" both when I start the call and when I end the call.
How can this message be supressed and what is causing it. I do have mail for exchange running, that is the only thing I know of running at the same time.

As you noticed yourself your Mail for Exchange is running. This needs GPRS connection for syncing and the GPRS is on most of the time so when you make or end a call you get this message.
If you have unlimited Data Package then nothing to worry.

  • N97 packet data connection on hold

Good day,I have a N97 with an unlimited data plan. But I´m having a problem, when I receive or make call or send text message my phone show this message “packet data connection on hold”, and when I finish the call or sent the text message the phone shows  “Packet data connection active”. There is any way that I can change this? I want to have my data connection always active. Thanks in advance for your help
    Solved!

you would have to go into the settings - connectivity- the first tab is network - select this and it tells you network mode, select this and you can set it to dual mode - umts or gms only mode. if your phone was made for your region and it supports the frequency that the network provides then it should work in 3g if it does not which is possible then it will only work on edge

  • E72-Packet Data connection message when answering ...

I get the following message when I dial or answer the phone: "Packet Data Connection on hold".
When I hang up I get: "Packet Data Connection active".
First of all, I don't know what packet data connection means nor do I have a need to know as long as the E72 works, which it does.
How do I get rid of these stupid messages?
    Thank You!

Look for the usual suspects as Nokia Messaging, Mail for Exchange, etc... that run in the background and need a connection. But if you don't want to know I'm not telling you.

  • N97 mini message "packet data: packet data connect...

    hi
I got a new nokia N97 mini a couple of months ago, it's on a plan with optus, and it's been working fine until a few days ago it keeps flashing this message 'packet data: packet data connection not available' and it won't let me access the web, or even send messages I've tried resetting it but no luck please help me!

Contact you Operater to confirm that the Packet Data Plan isn't deactivated.. If its active..request them to send the settings once again.. Normally these are sent thru' SMS.. When you receive..first delete all the access points from your phone.. then open the SMS and select..'SAVE'..Now try..

  • Switching off packet data connection

    Nokia 5800
The Internet Destination contains 2 access points, my wifi and my network data connection. If I move my network data connection to a different Destination (e.g. Roaming) will that be enough to disable packet data while abroad so I don't get any nasty suprises when I see my next bill?
Is there anyway any application will still have access to Packet Data?
     Thanks

Packet data settingsSelect Menu > Settings and Connectivity > Admin.settings > Packet data. The packet data settings affect all access points using a
    packet data connection.
Select from the following:● Packet data connection — If you select Whenavailable and you are in a network that supports packetdata, the device registers to the packet data network.
Starting an active packet data connection (for example, to
send and receive e-mail) is quicker than if the device
establishes a packet data connection when needed. If
there is no packet data coverage, the device periodically
tries to establish a packet data connection. If you selectWhen needed, the device uses a packet data connectiononly if you start an application or action that needs it.
If  i have helped at all a click on the white star below would be nice thanks.

The only way to disable it, is to kill ALL of your data services - which is what the update will do. It's hard coded into the variant apparently.
Had this confirmed by a senior tech. They really have borked their variant!

  • Packet data connections n97

    Hi,
I've had the N97 for a little while now, when connecting to the web I've always used the WAP services 'contract WAP' option as opposed to the Internet 'Contract Internet'. When taking out my contract with the phone I ensured that it included the mobile internet (free surfing etc) within the package
Whenever I've tried to connect via 'Contract Internet' as opposed to 'Contract WAP' I get the message 'Packet data connection not available'even when in a 3G area with full strength signal. I've made sure the phone settings are set to packet data where available etc. Is there something else I should be doing such as contacting vodafone to get them to activate the mobile internet on my number/account?
One other thing, have had the phone for 2 months and no matter how many settings I try the accuweather application never works, will only ever say 'loading', any fresh advice on that one?
Thanks in advance for any helpful advice.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

In your post, you mentioned contacting Vodafone to check if mobile internet was enabled on your account.  Have you done this yet?  If not, give them a call and while you're on the phone to them, ask them to send an SMS to your phone with their internet configuration settings which will program you phone with the right info.
If you've contacted them already and they've got it enabled, go to their website to check the details for mobile internet.
Regarding your Accuweather problem, have you downloaded the latest version from Ovi Store?  I realise you can't do this out and about but do you have home wifi you can use?  Not being able to access mobile internet will prevent Accuweather from working properly anyway.

  • E5 Packet data connection/access point

I was just wondering what this is.
I think I don't need it being as I don't have a "Data Package" set up with AT&T...am I right?
If I'm wrong, what to do next.

This would be needed for internet access and mms usage on your phone. Internett access only if you're thinking about surfing on the network. Wlan does not require any data packet connection over the phone network but will be saved as an access point though.
You will also need a packet data connection for using A-gps as it needs a few kb to locate the phone through the network.
But you can use the gps without agps.
So if you don't plan on browsing internett on the phone network, you don't need a packet data connection for that/ acces point.
If you don't need to send mms, you don't need one for that either, but those acces points are separeted from each others.
If you can not send mms, but you want to, you will probably be able to order the settings (accesspoint) from your providers web page. It will usually be in form of a text message sent to your phone. Same for the other access points.
Did this help you in any way or was it just confusing?
A Packet data connection will pretty much be an access point for internet/mms/wap over your network.
Using you wlan will be installed as a access point too, but that will of course be free (or just cost what you pay to have your internett).

  • N95 packet data

having recently accuired the n95,advertised as what computers have become,i browsed the net and had a quick look at the maps , off the memory card an 02 feature preinstalled maps uk only, bearing in mind i have only had the phone 7 days when i looked at the packet data recieved i was shocked to see the figure 24 mb (02 charge £3 a mb) so with browsing only i am set to pay a wopping £75 , extortion is to kind , its more like **bleep**, or am i barking up the wrong tree?

the maps on my n95 are included with the phone .The problem is ,everytime this phone connects to the internet it has to down load the data which costs £3/mb billed by the information the site your viewing not how long you look,so a site with a lot of pictures costs a lot to browse, i have found this very misleading ,anyone thinking of getting this phone beware of this ,because nobody tells you , don`t know if the maps work the same way yet , i got a 1mb card with uk maps free but it still connects to gprs when you select maps from menu so have i got a open connection that i`m getting billed for whilst using the maps? if so i think i`ll get a taxi ,might be cheaper.

  • N95 Packet Data log duration won't clear

I would like to know if anyone else has experienced a fault that I have with my N95 8G running the latest version of software.
The fault is around the Packet Data log.
I want to be able to keep tabs on my daily data usage, so have set the log duration to 1 day. When I check the packet data counters the following day, they have not reset. I have left the counter running for 7 days now and they still haven't reset.
Maybe I don't understand this feature, but I was expecting the counters to reset after 1 day.
Nokia support have sent out their standard 'we have no idea wants wrong' email requesting me to return the phone back to factory setting and loose all my data, which I'm reluctant to do.
    Cheers,
    Paul

The "keep logs for" feature does not affect the counters.
All it does is keep individual events for the specified duration.
Enter the "logs" application and then scroll right. You'll see a list of logged events (calls, messages in/out, packet data usage etc). THESE are the entries kept for one day with your settings.
