N95 problem - Software or Hardware?
Hi, my n95 gone nuts these few days, after i installed a chinese supported firmware for it, my n95 have this constant lagging problem and have to take out the battery to shut it down, and have to wait for a while for it to "cool down" approx 10-15 min or else it cant boot up, just show a blank black screen, even it DID boot up, playing mp3 can lag up the phone too, so before i am going to the Nokia care centre, anyone kind enough to elobrate whether it is SOFTWARE or HARDWARE problem thanks, i was hoping it was software problem so that its easier to fix

If you didn't have Chinese and you did something that's not allowed you may have void the warranty.

Strange connection problems -- software or hardware?
I've been experiencing some strange connectivity problems of late, and am wondering if it's a software or hardware issue. I'm running OS-X 10.4.11, and have noticed web-associated "drop-outs" occurring. When I'm browsing, any of the following will happen:
1. the pages will periodically stop loading, or will take forever to load a few final images.
2. the page will load with a different format (completely unformatted, like a throwback to Mosaic!).
3. the page won't load at all, and will instead give me either a "DNS error" message, or will default to my ISP's "We couldn't resolve your page" message.
4. Nothing out of the ordinary happens.
Throughout this process, the connection strength is 100%.
It seems this happens with both Firefox and Safari. Is this an issue with driver software, or is my Airport Card giving out? My computer is about 3 years old.I have been having intermittent connection problems on several computers over many years now. We have 12 eMacs, all purchased within a few months of each other, all with 10.4.11. Some computers have almost perfect internet connection, but some are constantly losing connection. If the user just waits a few minutes, the network just comes back or if they open system preferences and renew the DHCP lease it comes back as well. We have tried replacing cables, reloading the operating system, repairing permissions, reseting safari... We are all connecting through ethernet cables through wall jacks then to a switch that is connected to our router. Our DSL provider claims it can't be wiring or a problem on their end or they would see it and we would all have problems. I am not super computer literate... Any suggestions for what I should check on the 4 or so computers that are having lots of connection problems?
Thanks for any words of wisdom!!! -
Before I return iPad: Is the WiFi problem software or hardware?
Obviously there is a problem with the iPad Wifi.
Dozens of threads full of unhappy owners here. Many
more on MacRumors.
I am getting ready to give up on the iPad. For $500 the
WiFi shouldn't be **** poor, dropping connections and
giving me low signal coverage.
Just one question. Has anyone figured out if this is a
hardware issue (antenna in bad place) or something that
can be fixed with a software update?
Software update I can wait for. Hardware I return this thing.
Oh, and if someone has a fix, please post it.
And yes, I did all these steps:
1. Reboot your router - just unplug it from the power.
2. Reset your network settings - Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network settings. When your iPad restarts, tap Settings > WiFi > Other and re-enter your network name, security, and password.
Still bad WiFi coverage and losing of password. I have a Verizon Actiontech "G" router.

Message was edited by: NJ RonThe only issue, if it turns out to be that, I'm experiencing is the seemingly low signal level.
Last night I formulated a theory that I've ALMOST convinced myself has some merit.
I'm wondering if the iPad's software conserves power by supplying the antenna as needed thereby helping to achieve the 10-12hrs of published run time?
In reading these many threads and performing various speed tests, I see my bars increase and decrease from a dot to full as needed a lot of the time.

Mid 2013 Haswell Macbook Air Wifi problem: software or hardware?
I have the 11" Macbook Air (mid-June 2013, Haswell) and it has problems connecting to wifi. It reluctantly connects after searching for the network for a few minutes, but then it stays connected.
My question is: can anyone tell me if this is a hardware issue (in which case return/repair is necessary) or a software issue? If it can be fixed by an update, I don't mind waiting, but I don't want to waste my time if the machine is physically defective. There is an update available now.

Clean OS install problems - software or hardware?
Hello all, I have a 2009 MacBook Pro. I have had problems recently trying to do a clean install of the os. It failed with lion, and now with mountain lion it has been going for three days but is still moving. With lion i tried downloading multiple times, and put it on the usb multiple times. My windows partition works fine, so this leads me to wonder if it's not a hardware problem and if I'm consistently getting a bad download. The download worked on my sisters computer though, but this was an upgrade from lion and not a clean install via USB. I tried going all the way back to leopard as I couldn't find my snow leopard disk and that installed fine. Anyone have any ideas on what's up? Is it maybe a piece of hardware that needs to be replaced? Should I continue letting the mountain lion try to install despite the fact that it has been going three days even though the loading bar is still moving? Any help or advice would be appreciated.
- RyanWifi? there have been problems - and fixes. I assume that is the only thing that could take so long (though download an OS why should it take longer than downloading three full length movies from iTunes Store? it shouldn't)
Clean? just clone your system or make sure you have a good backup (or two) and with the actual install process - not the download which is separate issue - it can go like light-ning on an SSD in minutes. And Setup Assistant? nice good way to start off.
I would say there is no way to know if your system will run better or not or if it takes longer in the end, or just 'safer' and more stable method to get ML installed.
And you do want to save the installer so you can avoid downloading another 4GB later.
Free space or lack thereof is one factor, or maybe it is time for an SSD or new hard drive; swapping out the hard drive before it fails or checking to see if spare blocks have been used is best indication of likely or impending drive issue.
There are guides how best to put Lion/ML on 8GB USB and using Disk-Maker
http://blog.gete.net/lion-diskmaker-us/
How to make a bootable Mountain Lion install drive

Making sure your disk drive does not have any errors can only be done by spending time and effort and scanning for media errors or having a program that will - and a new OS is a good enough time for that.
Mac users just need to stay up to date and make sure your hard drive is free of errors,
OS X Lion: Unable to download OS X Lion wirelessly from Mac App Store - "Your device or computer could not be verified"
Products Affected
Mac App Store, OS X Lion
Symptoms
When attempting to purchase or download OS X Lion from the Mac App Store wirelessly with your Apple ID account, you may receive a dialog stating "Your Device or computer could not be verified. Contact support for assistance." This could happen when upgrading Mac OS X v10.6.6, 10.6.7, or 10.6.8 to OS X Lion via a Wi-Fi connection.
Resolution
Use the following steps to delete your network preferences.
Important: You must be logged in as an administrator.
Click the Finder icon in the Dock.
Choose Go to Folder from the Go menu.
Type /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration
Copy the file networkinterfaces.plist to the desktop (to make a precautionary backup).
Delete the file "networkinterfaces.plist." from SystemConfiguration.
Restart your Mac.
Create new location in Network preferences, in System Preferences.
Once your computer has restarted, you will need to refresh your network settings to be able to connect to the Internet again:
Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu.
Choose Network from the View menu.
From the Location pop-up menu, choose "New Location".
Type a name for your location and click OK.
Click the Apply Now at the bottom right to accept the changes.
If your network connection requires any special settings, you will need to enter them again.
Once you have made these changes, you should be able to connect to the Internet, open App Store, and try your OS X Lion purchase or download again.
Additional Information
This issue may occur if your Mac's Ethernet port is damaged or inoperable, even if you aren't using Ethernet to try to download Lion.

The "gig" is not up. IMHO the problem is with software, not hardware
There very well could be a few iPhones that have hardware problems but my opinion / findings say it is sofrtware rather than hardware.
Case in point. I have owned my iPod Touch (32 GB) for over 6 months now and have had no problems with it until I installed 2.0 software. The problem got even worse on the Touch when I upgraded to 2.0.1. The problem was freezing up which required a special rest proceedure and a complete restore. I had the same problem with not one but two iPhone 3G's (I returned the first one). Same scenario. Speical reset and complete restore solved the problem. I have now had no problems except for a little instability (such as slow keyboard from time to time) for the past 4 days. Bear in mind this is on BOTH the iPOd Touch AND the iPhone 3G. ONe would think that if the problem was with hardware that the problem would not be with both the iPhone 3G AND the iPOd Touch.
Would love to hear the opinions of others.
KenIf your question is "Is the 2.0/2.01 software buggier/slower/flakier than the 1.0/1.1/etc. software for iPhone/iPod Touch", then the answer is of course SMS typing slows down on occasion now, weird pauses, freezes etc. are all new to 2.0/2.01.
This doesn't mean that the iPhone 3G hardware isn't possibly flawed as well-that still hasn't been answered. But its pretty common knowledge (I think) that 2.0/2.01 is much less stable than the 1.0 OS. (on the flip side, look at all the new stuff we get to play with in 2.0/2.01 ) -
sir you have replied for my question, and i updated my software and all those things, yet it is showing unable to connect network, but i can use internet by sim, is it the problem related with hardware? can you tell me a solution for it?
you seem to be referring to an ongoing issue
click here to respsond -> sir help me to enable my network connection, my iphone 4s is not connecting with any wireless connection, what i should do for enabling network connection?

I'm thinking of upgrading from v10.6.8 Snow Leopard to OS X Yosemite. I know, I'm years behind, but it has become a necessity. My Mac is becoming slow and is incompatible with many softwares and websites. Does anyone know of any problems associated with this upgrade? What are the implications and/or consequences of installing Yosemite? Does it effect functionality of v10.6.8 software or hardware? Are there any precautions I should take before the installation? I have read some posts about Macs slowing right down after installing Yosemite. Any insights and information (in layman's terms please!) would be very useful. Thanks.
Huge thanks for your response Michel. I apologise for the delay in getting back to you. I have done as you suggested, the details are pasted below. Clearly there are some applications I need to remove and no doubt my HD could do with a 'spring clean'. My Mac 'Safe Booted' when I turned it on this morning.
I use many different softwares, some web-based. The decision to upgrade to OSX Yosemite is because I was unable to attend a Webinar this week using GoToMeeting downloadable software. GoToMeeting have upgraded their system and my OS is no longer supported. Other websites like VImeo no longer support my version of Safari. I tend to use Chrome if Safari isn't compatible.
Problem description:
I'm thinking of upgrading from v10.6.8 Snow Leopard to OS X Yosemite. However I have noticed that my MacBook Pro becoming ‘slow’ over the last 3 weeks and therefore might have some issues that need to be resolved before I even consider installing OSX Yosemite. Over the last week my Mac has Safe Booted on three occasions, so clearly there’s a ‘glitch’ occurring.

Is my iPhone 4 greyed out wifi and non working bluetooth software or hardware... seems that the forums are full of this issue with no consistent or official answer. is it all coincidence that so many are having the problem? Please help... I have scoured the net trying everything the last few days.
Please correct your porfile: iPhone 4 do not have IOS 6.1.4.
The usual troubleshooting steps are, also remember to test it after every step:
1. Restart
2. Reset
3. Restore from backup
4. Restore as new.
If no joy, make an Appointment with the Apple genius and have them evaluate -
Hi, it's is my first post here, so welcome everyone
I've just purchased Helix 3702-3LO (i7, 8GB, 128GB, Win8Pro 64bits upgraded to 8.1) and today found some problem. Pictures taken by rear camera are malformed. The picture looks like:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B5MpmFU1Jqq8Ym5ucGt6WDhUQXM/edit?usp=sharing
But at the same time video taken by the camera is perfect. So how do you think, is it software or hardware problem?
I've already tried refresh drivers, update what was possible to update, but still no imrovement, I still want avoid sending the computer to the service. It looks like some part of the image (bottom) is paste in the middle. Looks like codecs problem???
But now I'm not sure if it is only software problem or may be some how hardware (video is recorded is fine).
Thank you.

Solved!
Go to Solution.Thank you kroe, you were absolutely right!
I rolled back the driver and it's fixed now, I should think about this in first place! :-)
"Device manager" > "Imaging devices" > "AIT Webcam" > Right Mouse Button Menu > "Properties" > Tab "Driver" > "Roll back driver" > OK
and now I have, like you wrote, "Integrated Rear Camera" instead of "AIT Webcam"
And the photos are perfect now :-) Thx again.
So.. problem SOLVED! Thx -
Even though my software and hardware is up to date my new iPhone 5c is not recognized by my computer or itunes, it does not even load or show up on my desktop. Is anyone else having this problem?
I'm afraid it may be related to activating the phone in the store earlier today and not having my computer on hand?Hi, akp2585.
If your Mac is running OS X v10.6.8 or later and iTunes version 11.1 or later, here is a troubleshooting article that you may find helpful.

I bought the iphone 5 has not been one week do not understand why the home key of the time activities at stops working, not crash or fall. hope its help, probably due to software, not hardware failure, what do I do now?
Restore iPhone with current iTunes on computer. See if better. If still problem, make Genius reservation or set up Service and take or send to Apple for resolution. Of if easier for you, take receipt and iPhone, box and everything and return to where you bought it.

Had two panic attacks the first on 12/01/2014, the other 12/02/2014.
Both times have happened when starting up from shutdown.
The message is:
When your computer spontaneously restarts or displays "Your computer restarted because of a problem."
System - 2010 MacBook Pro ,2.66 GHz Intel Core I7
8 GB memory 1067 MHz DDr3 OWC
OS X 10.9.5 (13F34)

On 11/29/2014 installed a Logitech K750 wireless keyboard, along with their software. Could not get F3 key to work. On 11/30/2014 uninstalled everything.
The next day the panic attacks started.
In the "Problem Details and System Configuration" report do not see the term “machine check” so I do not think its hardware issue, but do not know if it can be ruled out.
Trying to narrow down were the issue is , if its software or hardware.Hello Esuared
Looked at the the reports and could not decipher them. will attach both of them. Thanks for your rely .
