  • Will the internal gps work in the ipad 4 even if there is no mobile signal?

So I am about to buy and ipad 4 and need to know if the internal gps will work when I am out of a mobile signal area
    Thanks

Yes. The GPS will operate in the absence of a cellular signal. But dynamically loaded apps/maps (loaded as needed via either cellular or Wi-Fi) will not update the map data without an internet connection. If you have an app that has the ability to pre-load the map data you will be using beforehand, while connected to the internet, you should have no issue but that will also depend on the app and whether or not it's coded to operate correctly in the absence of cellular or Wi-Fi.

  • E71 Route 66 Mobile 7

I am happy to report Route 66 Mobile 7 works with the internal GPS in the Nokia E71. It does require the latest version (7.0.545) which includes a patch intended to make the N95 work.
I'm posting this info because I could not find it anywhere, and Route 66 tech support said they do not support the E71. I took a chance and bought the phone anyways.
If you already own Route 66 Mobile 7, it can be activated on three different phones, and then never again. Even the earliest versions sold on MMC cards can be moved to a MicroSD card. You might need to apply some updates from the www.66.com before it will install and activate.

    Hi,
That is good news indeed. Could you tell me the exact steps you did to upgrade?
    Here's my experience:
    1. Installed to microSD via original CD (v502)
    2. Insert into phone, activated, works fine. No internal GPS support as expected.
So now downloaded v545 from 66.com.
    Upgrade effort #1
    1. Connected E71 as mass storage
    2. Run updater, seems no problem
    3. But now app says "Cannot execute due to security" (note earlier I have disabled signed checking etc)
    Upgrade effort #2
    0. Uninstalled using App Manager
    1. Used card reader
    2. Start from original CD
    3. Immediately run updater
    4. When put in phone does not appear installed but in app manager there is a sis that can be installed. However this failed to install
    Thanks!

  • N95, route 66 patch update causes fail

I had installed route 66 ok on my nokia n95, but of course i found that the internal GPS would not work with this App, so i found there was a patch available and guess what it said that the patch was to fix the use of the internal gps, so away i went and installed the patch on the phone.. then to my amazement the aplication would not load at all, something about security on a file. can anyone help here as the route 66 people dont seem to want to answer my mails.
    thx in advance.

I used the Route66 version 7 patch and it worked fine with my N95 8GB, however I did it on a 'clean' install. Like the previous poster, I would suggest you either uninstall Route66 or better, backup then reformat the phone and try again.

  • N82. Internal GPS v Bluetooth GPS

Just wondering which uses more power, using the internal GPS or bluetooth? What about network data, how much does the in built GPS use?
    Nokia N8 on Belle

If you want a response from Nokia, use Contact Us on the top right corner of the page. If you want a response from the people on the forum, please be patient.
First, apply any software updates. If this does not fix it, reset your device. This often solves problems in the operating system configuration. If you still don't see integrated GPS in that menu, then take the handset to the store and ask them to replace it. If the replacement doesn't have GPS either, then ask for your money back and buy the handset somewhere else.
In some regions, GPS is illegal for civilians. It is possible that the handset you purchased was made for a region where GPS is prohibited. Even if GPS is not prohibited where you bought the device, shops sometimes import stock from other countries.
The Nokia MEA site is for the entire MEA region in several languages and cannot reflect these sorts of local prohibitions. If the shop told you that handset has GPS, and it definitely doesn't, then that's something you have to take up with the shop. Nokia cannot stop a shop from making a mistake.

  • E52 internal GPS fix problem only with OVI Maps

    Hi all,
I read many many E52 phones suffer Internal GPS fix problems.
I don't beleve this is an hardware problem, but only a software bug.
    My experiments say this:
    1) Start phone, start Ovi Maps -> No lock at all. (only 1 blinking line in bottom left corner)
    2) Start phone, start McGuider (Sygic) navigator -> E52 locks quite immedeately. (in the same place!!)
    3) After GPS is locked, start Ovi Maps again. Now also Maps works great!
    4) Also the gps built-in application under Menu->Applications->GPS->GPS Data has the same behaviour as Ovi Maps.
Anyone can try and report this or similar experience?
    Thank you!

    Thank you for the response.
I'm sure the fix is faster if i use A-GPS, but i i have to pay for data connection.
And, above all, Sygic works perfectly WITHOUT A-GPS, so why Ovi Maps does not?
Yes, you have to pay, but the connection takes about 20sec. About Sygic you're right I noticed that too. It locks pretty fast.

  • Verizon iPhone 4: does this phone have an INTERNAL GPS unit?

I thought it would but when I drove into an area with no cell coverage my pre-installed MAPS did not work?! If the iPhone has an internal GPS should I not have map coverage anyway? My wife's Droid switches to internal gps.... Can anyone educate me on this?
For good turn by turn is the Tom Tom ap for iPhone a good one?
If the iPhone 4 verizon has an internal gps why does tom tom have a car kit for iPhone??????
    thank you!

As a test I put my iPhone in Airplane mode and when I opened Maps I was instructed to turn off Airplane mode or use WiFi to show my location on the map. I pressed OK and got another message that my location is unable to be displayed on the map. I know data is used to download the map to show your current location and I guess without some type of data connection the Map app will not function.

  • I need to disable my firewall so that I can download my gps update.

I have tried unsuccessfully on 3 occasions to download my GPS update. Contacting tomtom, they say I must take down my firewall to complete the download.

Login your iCloud account, select Contacts and  choose export contacts to vCard from the drop-down menu located at the bottom of the screen. Similar steps to Gmail account.
However, If you neither back up your account using iCloud or using Gmail, then you need third party apps to help you export existing contacts stored on your iPhone to computer, then you can use it on other mobile phones.

  • When the 5.0 version came out a notice was sent to my laptop stating it was not compatable with Garman GPS updates at this time. I would like to know if that has been fixed allowing Garman GPS updates now? I did not update to 5.0 for that reason.

I did not update to 5.0 Firefox because it said it was not compatable with the Garman GPS updates at this time

  • Using internal software update server (SUS) with iTunes

We are using an internal software update server (SUS) to manage the release of patches, etc. to our mac clients. There are no known issues with this server or the process. However, it appears that iTunes is still checking Apple's website first for updates, and by-passing our internal server. So we have Mac clients indicating an update to iTunes is available, but when software update is launched, no iTunes updates are available from our internal server, since we have not released them internally yet.
Is there a setting in iTunes that we can change so that iTunes checks our internal SUS site first?

You need to look at this from the server side, not
    the client side.
Open Server Admin, connect to your server and look at
the list of updates that Software Update has
available. Specifically check if there are any blue
warning icons alongside any update. These are updates
that the server has not yet downloaded from Apple,
and therefore are not available to clients.
I've seen this happen periodically on my SUS. The fix
is annoying, but simple just stop and restart the
SUS. It should download the pending updates and make
    them available to clients.
Thanks for the reply. Actually there were blue exclamation points next to newer updates, yet I just waited and the server finished downloading and mirroring them and then they went away. The screenshots above were taken when there were no exclamation points in the software list and when all the updates were available in the list.

  • More uploading errors.  This time site works but mobile me can't be updated

Someone gave me some advice to be patient as the apple servers are weird at times. I did find that my site published, then all pages turned red, wasn't published, etc.
Each time I upload it is close to 4 hours so each experiment is taking a long time. This morning it got all the way to looking like it was finished uploading then it gave me one error message about a file. I re-published later, again close to 4 hours. Now, it says there was a publishing error--"mobile me could not be updated" but all the pages have turned blue and my site appears to be working.
any idea if this is a cause for a concern? Will I have problems? Should I check something else on mobile me? I'm logged in and all looks good in system pref.

Maybe one or several entries are causing trouble. I suggest you check your pages and see if there is something weird. But it looks like things are improving each time you try publishing.
My idea is that iWeb somehow has stored lots of unnecessary information from old versions, corrections, and probably is picking the wrong information sometimes. Just an idea why it can act weird.

  • Help Center : Internal Automatic Updates center

    hi
Using JDeveloper 11.1.1.2.0 select Help > Table of Contents > Developing JDeveloper Extensions > Writing JDeveloper Extensions > Installing the Extension SDK.
Step 2 says "... Make sure that the Internal Automatic Updates center is selected, ...", but there does not seem to be an "Internal Automatic Updates center".
Could this be a documentation bug that should be referring to the Update Center "Official Oracle Extensions and Updates" that does have an "Extension SDK ..." to be selected?
    many thanks
    Jan Vervecken

    Hi,
    Looks like a bug.
Alternatively, you download the ESDK extension from here.

  • Can anyone suggest an international GPS nav app that offers map and POI downloads for offline access and route search?

I'm going to be in the UK with an American phone, don't expect mobile data, and I'd like to use this app instead of the £30 up charge for a rental GPS... I've seen the free Navfree and the cheap as free MotionX Drive, but have read Navfree has some spotty routing and MotionX won't allow regional (or even whole city, ftm) map downloads.

At $90 for the UK maps this is a too pricey for the use case. In case it wasn't clear, I'm visiting the UK short term so I shouldn't spend more than the £30 to hire a GPS nav system.
Thanks for the suggestion! Any other ideas?
