N95 route planning not very optimal?

Hi All,
Well, I'm getting along fine with the N95 but I have noticed that the route planning isn't as good as I thnk it should be.
The route I've noticed this most on is from St Ives in Cornwall back home to Reading. Both Google Maps, The AA's website and my old GPS mapping software (ViaMichelin's MapSonic) pick a route up the A30, M5 and M4 giving a travel time of between 4 and 5 hours.
However, Nokia Maps gives me a route that avoids the M4 completely (it still uses a bit of the M5 though, so I have motorways "on" ;-) ) and with a time estimate of 8.5hrs!
This seems way off :-(
Does anyone know where I can check for a new version of the map software that hopefully addresses these deficiencies or if there are options in the program that can be used to tweak the speeds on various types of road?
In Maps, Options > About tells me I'm using "v3.0 wk09 b02 OpenGL OpenBit MN"
Is that the latest for the N95? If not, where can I look to get a newer version?
I tried both http://www.smart2go.com/en/download/ and http://nokia.com/maps, but neither even listed the N95. Why is that?

I have been using Smart2go on my N80 with an external gps. Works well but as you said, route planning is sometimes questionable. However, I think it is still pretty good for what it is. Another area that could be improved is the voice guidance which only seems to give instructions when you need to venture of the straight route, as in, it does not tell you to "go straight at the next traffic light".

Why the current version of nokia maps does not offer the route planning possibility? It is obvoius, that every user wants to plan his route, check the distance and choose the intermediary points! The level of the application is now childish, without many options. I choose the Nokia (C7) phone only because it offered an advanced, functional navigation with maps of the whole world. Symbian is not very exciting. With such a navigation as this one many users will definitely change their phones to Android devices. Will the route planning come back soon or is it possible to downgrade the maps apllication?

You talk about searching one place and not about route planning from one to another place, also with intermediary points. I Came back to version 3.07 and I am happy again. The question is if in Belle I can keep this version..?
I suspect you'll get no choice with Belle - I belive 3.08 is now the "retail offering" so, I would have thought Belle will impose it.
Sorry to say, but for me, personally, if that's the case, it will be a show-stopper for me upgrading to Belle on my N8.
3.06 of maps has all the features I need and want, along with the configuration options for them. I'm not willing to sacrifice that, so won't be doing anything that imposes moving from 3.06 of maps, until the newer offering fixes / reinstates all they broke / removed.
That to me is a real shame, for me, Nokia / OVI maps is the killer app for Nokia handsets for me. The way the product is going, if that's not addressed, and I can either easily continue with 3.06, or the newer version(s) sufficiently fixed to make them work and function as good, then I'll not be upgrading, and when my mobile contract is due for renewal, probably choose an Android handset.

You: I want a clarification: Do you realize that there is an issue with the current WRT1900 AC? Are you aware of that?

For your reference, your case number is 04980394. Thank you for choosing Linksys and have a great day! We paid $250 for this piece of equipment. That's a lot of money for a device that doesn't work. I just want to get a V2 replacement, or better yet, an exchange for a EA8500. We should all demand this. It is not fair for us. The current WRT1900 AC is a useless device. They even should do a recall of the product. I will wait for them to contact me, but I'm thinking if I should send the information to The Consumerist or someone else. What to do?

There is laterally millions of WRT1900AC V1 out there with very few issues with latest firmwares and of course the odd exception. In your case it could be a defective WRT1900AC.

Hello. I sent my WRT1900AC V1 to Linksys four days ago (Monday) via UPS with a RMA. Linksys paid the shipping and everything. The router is still in route, and it should arrive to their offices tomorrow. Once they receive the WRT1900 AC V1, they are going to send me an EA8500 as a replacement. But I have been reading the comments about the EA8500 here in the forum and it seems to have the same problems. I guess the firmware is extremely flawed in both routers (maybe it is almost the same code?). Anyway, I will try the EA8500 and I hope it works. I bought a temporary router from Walmart and I paid $35 for it. It is a Belink N600 DB. I can't believe that a $35 router is working a lot, lot, lot better than my previous $250 WRT1900AC router. Unbelievable. If the EA8500 doesn't work, I'm going to try and get my money back from Linksys, or contact The Consumerist or someone to get my money back and get a Nighthawk instead.

I read through this, and it looks like the problem was fixed in a BIOS update, which I plan to do. However, it also seems like Intel Rapid Start is not even worth it in the first place, as sleep consumes almost no power at all.

  • Is possible to have a time machine backup on an external hd connected to either a primary or secondary router and not have "back to my mac" using 10.7.3?

Is possible to have a time machine backup on an external hd connected to either a primary or secondary router and not have "back to my mac" using 10.7.3?

The bottom line is that Apple does not support Time Machine backups at the USB port of the AirPort Extreme. If they don't support their own router, they certainly don't support other routers from other manufacturers.
Connect the drive directly to the Mac using either USB or FireWire.....or....use a Time Capsule.  Either of these setups will be supported.
If you want to try the unsupported method(s), you can certainly do so. But, I would suggest that you have a secondary backup plan in place if this is important data that you will be backing up.

    Storage plan not available

None of these solves my problem! My iPad3 has not successfully backed up to the cloud since 10/11/2012. I have restarted the iPad, several times; i have reset it (simultaneously held down the home and on/off button); I have tried to manually do the backup (ie, 'Back Up Now'); i have deleted all apps' backup and turned them off for iCloud backup (in case one of the apps was hanging it up); i have, finally, deleted the previous iCloud backup, in case the last (10/11/12) backup was somehow compromised. When I try to do a manual backup I get very little in the way of status and no explanation or error message or code as to why the backup failed. This is really useless. I have screen shots of all this in case anyone (anyone at all) from Apple is paying attention here.

  • "IP and router address not consistent with subnet mask"

    Hi all,
i have one of the old Powermac G5's running os x 10.3.5 "Panther" with a dual 2.5ghz processor, 512mb or ram, 160 gig hd, and no wireless card. I've been trying to hook the computer up to my network via an Ethernet cable (I have a Linksys WRT54G series router).
the problem is this: When I go through the Network utilities using the "assist me" option, select the LAN option, put in the necessary information (IP address, subnet mask, router address, and the dns host), and select continue, this message pops up:"IP and router address not consistent with subnet mask".
What I've found is that no matter if the computer is plugged in with a cable to the Ethernet port the message comes up which is very unusual.
    Thanks in advance.

Have you verified that you indeed have the proper subnet entered?
Why don't you just let the Mac obtain its ip address from the router via DHCP?

  • Route plan question

We have two offices that will be consolidated in to one office within the same city. The existing offices are in the same area code. The new office will be in a different area code.  According to ATT, the DIDs cannot be ported to the new office.
Each office has its own Route Plan (in Call Manager) and voice gateway.
For the new office, we will be installing a single Cisco 2851 for the VG/PRI and a Cisco 2951 for the data network (via MPLS).  We want the network and telecommunications ready before staff move in to the new office.
My question is, can we or should we re-configure the existing route plans to reflect the new circuit/DIDs?  Should we create a new route plan?  What would be the best course of action for this move?
I don't have a lot of experience with route plans and VG setups so we plan on engaging a contractor for this project.
Any comment or suggestions you may have will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Hey Richard,
Personally, I would create another dialplan and then use the bat tool to move the phones from one dialplan to another as the changes are made.  If you're not experienced with doing this, I would concur with your decision to hire outside help to do this.
On another note, you could easily use a single 2951 for both the voice gateway and the mpls router.  These isrs are made to serve double duty.

  • Brand new MacBook connects to router but not to internet

    Hi
I bought a MacBook (my first mac) on Friday and love using it apart from I have one problem.
When I try and use it wirelessly with a standard cable/dsl router (we have virgin media) it connects with 4 bars or strength to the router but when I click on Safari I am told that the page cannot be found because I am not connected to the internet.
My housemates on Windows have no problems with the router or the internet.
I've tried running the diagnostic tool and it can't fix the problem and says that an IP address cannot be assigned.
I'm not very good with computers so if you could try and explain what to do in the most basic of terms that would be great.

    Hi
Go to the Apple menu at the top of the screen, then select Location > Automatic. When you've that, go once again to the Apple menu, select Location > Network Preferences...
When the preference pane pops up, select AirPort. Check that you're connected to the correct network name, then click on advanced. Under TCP/IP, check that Configure IPv4 is set to Using DHCP, and that the Router is set to 192.168.0.1. If the router isn't set, then go to the DNS tab and see if 192.168.0.1 is the list of DNS servers. If it isn't there, then click on the + sign in the left column and add 192.168.0.1
Now go to Proxies. Set configure Proxies to Manually, and make sure all protocol options are UNTICKED, except for Passive FTP.
Save everything and come out of the preference pane. Turn off your AirPort card and then turn it back on again. Keep your fingers crossed.

  • Nokia 6288 route planning software

    Hello everybody,
I am interested to find some route planning software for Nokia 6288 (Series 40 Operating System).
At least I would like to know if exists.
Because all I found were for Symbian (S60) operating system.
I search for some software that can be deployed on the memory card and can work autonomously (without internet connection, etc). Only a GPS sensor must be attached to the phone.
Does anybody knows of souch a software?
    Thanks in advance,
    Bogdan Olariu

No - the are no route planning software for Series 40 JAVA phones as far as I know. Mobile Gmaps is the best there is.
JAVA apps are limited in size, typically no bigger than 512KB - so all map data and so on needs to be pulled over GPRS. Placing map/route data into the JAVA app is thus not possible as it will never fit into 512KB.

  • What would you do? Thinking about refinancing car loan. Credit not yet optimized.

Currently my objective is to get my credit scores to the high 700's-800 by years end so i can apply for a mortgage and be on my way to the American dream and home ownership.  I started my subscription to MyFico last month and here are my scores: Equifax: 748 June 30, 2015, now 757 July 11, 2015Trans Union: 701 June 30, 2015, now 723 July 10, 2015Experian: 737 June 30, 2015, no updates With that said my credit score is not yet optimized to what i am aiming for.  And i do not mind paying a little more to accelerate my path to optimization.  Example: keeping a <10% balance on my credit cards versus keeping a zero balance. My current auto loan was originally for $31,000 at 6% for 5 years and i've made a full year of installments.  I keep reading about DCU and their super attractive 1.74% APR.  I also currently have an account with Penfed (though they have denied me a year ago when requesting for a $50k auto loan). If you were me, would you risk a drop in credit score for better car loan terms now?  Or would you wait (if all goes as planned) until after i apply for and get a mortgage?  If i can get approved for 1.74%, that'll decrease my payment from $600 to $540 or it would allow me to pay off the loan 6 mos early.
