N95 shortcut to change profile

Hi,
does anyone know of a shortcut to change profile (ring tone - to vibrate to be specific) quickly on the n95?
instead of going tools->profiles->activate...a bit cumbersome
thanks,
mike

Yes indeed, you can use voice commands to change between profiles. However, it could take a while to train voice commands to understand you, unless you have a South African accent. Rumour has it that the person who programmes voice commands is South African.

  • [solved]script fails when changing profile through powerdevil.

i use ondemand governor and i want to change up_threshold value.
Whenever i change profile through powerdevil up_threshold gets its default vaule of 80.
what i did was to create a script named threshold containing the lines:
    #!/bin/bash
    sudo sh -c 'echo 50 > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/ondemand/up_threshold'
i have also set through /etc/sudoers that this script is passwordless for my user.
if i run the script, it successfully changes the value. It also runs successfully if i put it in startup.
My problem is that it fails to run when i choose it to run when a profile loads through powerdevil. I am refering to the feature shown below :
at first i thought that this function has a problem. so i chose to run kate, and when i changed profile, kate started immediately. So i guess that there is a problem with my script.
    Any ideas?

I hope someone reads this thread also its already marked as solved...
Anyway, i would like to use CPU frequency scaling, but in the powermanagement settings,
i cant shoose anything for frequency scaling.
What do i have to do to be able to set "ondemand" or "always lowest frequency"?
Wich daemons and/or modules do i have to activate to change the frequency policy?
Would be very nice if someone could help me.

  • Internet Shortcuts saved on Desktop open new instance of Firefox 3.6 using clean profile--how can I make it open all shortcuts using current profile?

I rely heavily on Firefox's profiling ability to assist me in my web design projects. Lately, using Firefox 3.6, I have run into some problems with how it opens Internet Shortcuts that are saved locally (i.e.- shortcuts that reside on my Desktop). When I double-click on one of these shortcuts, a new instance of Firefox 3.6 is loaded with the saved website from the shortcut, but it's also initialized a fresh profile (i.e.- my bookmarks are gone, no add-ons, etc.--it's as if it uses some sort of "hidden" clean slate to load the shortcuts).
Is there any way to force Firefox to load all shortcuts into whatever profile I'm currently using at that given moment? I think the reason this has happened to begin with is because of the fact that I did some stuff to Internet Explorer awhile back that caused some problems with the Internet Shortcut associations and it all led to this eventuality.
I'm running Windows XP Pro and have the following profiles with my Firefox versions:
    "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox 3.6\firefox.exe" -no-remote -p Firefox3.6
    "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox N\firefox.exe" -no-remote -p FirefoxN
    "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox 3\firefox.exe" -no-remote -p Firefox3
    "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox 2\firefox.exe" --no-remote -p Firefox2
When I go into the "Folder Options / File Types" and double-click on "Internet Shortcut", I have the following within the "Advanced" settings (for the "open" action):
    Action: open
Application used to perform action: rundll32.exe shdocvw.dll,OpenURL %l
    "Use DDE" is checked...
    "DDE Message" is blank...
    "Application" is "shdocvw"...
"DDE Application Not Running" is blank...
    "Topic" is "System"
Again, I think the root problem here is to do with the profiles and how they're handled when being opened with Firefox but I can't discern how to apply a fix with all this as I've obviously goobered this up a bit. I would really appreciate some professional knowledge on this and would prefer to avoid any reinstalls of anything if possible.

To save your sanity with this issue, my advice is to find a method other than desktop shortcuts to open those URL's.
    1. Desktop shortcuts are going to open the Default Browser.
    a. With multiple versions of Firefox installed that would be the last version that was installed when you have Firefox set as the Default Browser in Windows..
    b. The Default Browser is going to use the Profile that shows a Default=1 in the profiles.ini file.
    c. The Default Browser with the Default Profile isn't going to open if you have any other versions of Firefox already running, and the -no-remote command line parameter doesn't work in this situation.
    2. The use of multiple Profiles and multiple versions isn't officially supported by Mozilla, and all the Bug reports that I have ever read about Requests for Enhancement have been WONTFIX'd by the developers. Basically we have to work with the limitations in Firefox and maybe improvise work arounds by ourselves. I've even seen a few threats about removing Profiles altogether in RFE Bug reports about Profiles.
I have had so many problems over the years with this Default Browser / Default Profile thing over the years that personally I find it easier to just set Opera as the Default Browser in Windows rather than have a Profile get b0rked because some other program I am using decides it wants to open the Default Browser unexpectedly. I don't use Opera for much, but it is a lot better than IE for purposes of being the Default Browser, considering the quirks I have seen with Firefox and multiple Profiles.
I have written a number of postings over at the MozillaZine Builds forum over the years about installing multiple versions of Firefox and using multiple Profiles. There's a lot of tips and comments provided by other multiple Profile users in one of those threads. Why don't you read those threads and see if it gives you some ideas or solutions I haven't thought of.

  • What is the keyboard shortcut for changing dictation language in Yosemite?

I can't find the keyboard shortcuts to change the dictation language in Mac OS X?
I would really appreciate if someone help me with this problem. I work with two languages and I really can't find any way to do that.
    Thanks for your help guys

Until the developer can release dictationswitcher compatible with Yosemite, here is an AppleScript that will toggle between two languages. After it switches, it will speak which language has been set. Currently, the spoken text is in English (United States). This script will work on Yosemite and Mavericks. Tested.
What you need to do to get this to work.
Add your alternative language to the Dictation Language pop-up.Set your languages in the AppleScript property strings exactly as they appear in the Dictation Language Menu.
Copy/Paste the following AppleScript into your Script Editor (/Applications/Utilities).
    Click the hammer (compile) button
Save once as File format text (dictation.applescript) - don't hide the extension, or check any of the checkboxes.
Option+Save As… File format Application to your Desktop. Hide the extension, and check no other checkboxes.
The first time that you run this application, you will receive a dialog box just like the one below (I changed the name back to dictation):
Click Open System Preferences. Click on the gold lock button in the lower left corner. The Accessibility category will be selected, but the dictation application in the list of apps will be unchecked. Check it, and then click the gold lock again. Quit out of the dictation application on your Desktop, and run it again. If you happen to get another dialog indicating that it still does not have permission, revisit the System Preferences > Security & Privacy panel, and under the Privacy tab > Accessibility, uncheck the dictation application, and then recheck it again. Quit System Preferences. This happened to me, and following this second action allowed it to work properly.
Future releases of OS X may impact this application if Apple changes the order of the UI elements.
I modified this AppleScript from an Apple StackExchange post by qegal in 2012.
Copy/Paste the following AppleScript into your Yosemite Script Editor per the above instructions.
property defaultLang : "English (United States)"
    property altLang : "German (Germany)"
-- property altLang : "French (France)"
tell application "System Events" to set p to (path to frontmost application) as string
         tell application "System Preferences"
         activate
reveal anchor "Dictation" of pane "com.apple.preference.speech"
         end tell
         tell application "System Events"
              tell process "System Preferences"
tell pop up button 1 of tab group 1 of window "Dictation & Speech"
                        click
                        try
if (get value of attribute "AXValue") contains defaultLang then
click menu item altLang of menu 1
say "Dictation set to " & altLang
else if (get value of attribute "AXValue") contains altLang then
click menu item defaultLang of menu 1
say "Dictation set to " & defaultLang
                             end if
                       on error errmsg number errnbr
tell process "System Preferences" to if it is running then quit
display alert altLang & "not configured in Dictation Languages, please add." as critical giving up after 10
                       end try
                   end tell
           end tell
    end tell
    quit application "System Preferences"

  • Unable to change profiles on Express

I have both an AirPort Extreme and an Express. I have the Extreme as my base station and my Express configured to join my network to stream AirTunes on my stereo. This setup works fine, but I want to take my Express to my parents' house and use it as a base station there and be able to use my laptop wirelessly. I created two profiles, one for home and one for at my parents. The home profile includes the join existing wireless network option, the parents profile creates a wireless network. I created the profiles while at home, took the Express over to my parents and jacked in to their router. AAU did not recognize the Express. The yellow light just kept blinking. I did a reset on it and went through setting it up using AirPort Setup Utility. Worked fine, profile was still there. Went home and AAU didn't recognize Express again. Hard reset, etc.,etc. I was under the impression that by simply plugging in the Express that AAU would see the Express, I would select it, click configure, and select my profile. It doesn't seem to work like that. I even tried connecting some CAT5 cable between my PowerBook and the ethernet connection on the Express to no avail. How are you supposed to change profiles for different locations?
PowerBook G4, Blue and White G3>4   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

The problem is that client mode on the Express turns
off the access point functionality so that you cannot
connect to it. It's a necessary consequence of a
device that's as versatile as the Airport Express.
Hmm. Unfortunately I guess that makes sense (and would explain why plugging in with an ethernet cable didn't even get me access). So the only way to get around a reset is to change the profile prior to pulling the AX off the network it's a client of? Makes sense, but still seems like an unresolved design problem.
The upside though, if I do a bit of infering from what you've suggested, is that the AX (currently running as Remote) may switch to Client automatically when I get back to my other location. If it does, then at least one pre-emptive switch declaration is eliminated. One could hope.

  • Shortcut for changing "from" field in Lion Mail?

I manage a number of email accounts from Mail, and frequently need to send messages from one account, and then another account, and then another account ... In Snow Leopard, I enjoyed creating shortcuts to change the "from" field of an outgoing message.  For example, in the keyboard system preferences pane, I assigned the command "My Name <[email protected]>" the shortcut of "SHIFT+CMD+X".  That way, while writing an email, if I noticed that it was about to send from the wrong account, I'd just hit the keystroke instead of grabbing my mouse.  Mail apparently knew what I was doing, because on the drop-down tab for "From", each of my mail accounts also showed the custom assigned shortcut.
This ability seems blocked in Lion.  Whenever I try to re-create these shortcuts in the preferences / application-shortcuts pane, they won't work!  What's worse, whenever I quite and re-open System Preferences, I find that my shortcuts have been re-assigned an extra open-bracket, such as: ">My Name <[email protected]>".
Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?  Is it possible to re-create these shortcuts in Lion Mail?

    MOE O wrote:
So Entourage can go to the previous message?  How do you do that?
I can't stand that Mail always goes to the next newest message after deleting.
Every other email program I've ever seen (including Entourage - see below) can do this.  Why can't Apple?  I don't want to touch the mouse most of the time because it really slows down work to move ones hands back and forth.   I did a quick web search and found these shortcuts for all the major programs.  If you know of any other program besides Apple Mail that doesn't have this, let me know.
Until then, if Outlook, Outlook Express, Entourage, Sparrow, Postbox, and Thunderbird have had this, what's Apple's problem adding it?

  • What's a simple keyboard shortcut to change windows..?

    Hi everyone,
I'm using a Swiss keyboard and am trying to figure out if there is a simple shortcut for switching Safari windows. I've finally figured out the shortcut for changing tabs (Command-Shift-left or right arrow) but changing windows still eludes me.
    thanks for any help,
    paul

No, it's not the key (nor the method to make the symbol) which makes it work but your mentioning the Keyboard System Preference turned a light bulb on for me. I went through the list of Keyboard Shortcuts in System Preferences and found that Command-< was the shortcut to move focus to next window in active application. Thanks..

I don't think so, you have to change it in the system preferences.  You can ask Apple to add this via

  • Opera's keyboard shortcuts keep changing

When I browse some sites, like Orkut, my keyboard shortcut configuration changes. Don't know why this happens, and when it happens, I cannot write any letter with an accent, like "é", "ã" etc.
So everytime I enter that kind of site I have to go to Tools - Preferences - Shortcuts - Keyboard configuration and change the standard to Opera standard for UNIX. Now I can write letters with accent, but when I enter the site again, I have to do everything again!
Does anybody have this problem too?

    Ever heard about Unicode?
To explain it briefly: Before Unicode every charset consisted of 255 different characters (some are control characters, like e.g. line break). This means you can only use these characters. This is a problem if you want to use e.g. cryllic characters or even worse if you are asian and your alphabet consists of much more than 255 characters.
Now with Unicode there are more characters possible. UTF-8 is now one implementation of Unicode. If you open an UTF-8 document with latin1 encoding, you'll realize that special characters (like umlauts, accented characters,...) break into two characters. e.g. Ä breaks into ä As you see, there are some characters (standard ASCII) only using the space of one character and some using up two four traditional characters.

  • Clicking on Firefox's shortcut to specific profile when it's already open doesn't work. What am I missing?

Well, that's a hard problem to describe in one sentence.
I'm currently using windows. I have 2 Firefox profiles, and each of them have desktop shortcuts to:
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -no-remote -P "Developer"
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -no-remote -P "Lazy"
They work just fine. The thing is: if the profile is already active and I click the shortcut, I get a "Firefox already running but not responding" error (Firefox just fails to open. The current opened window still works). The behavior I want is either maximize/focus the corresponding window, or open a new window with the same profile. Is it possible to achieve this? What am I missing?
I don't know if I'm being clear. In other words:
    - Desktop shortcut to specific profile works fine
    - While profile is open, double click the same desktop shortcut
    - Receive a "Firefox already running" error popup
    - Press ok, current profile still working but new window is not opened as expected

You can't open a link if you use the -no-remote command line switch.
You will have to start one profile without the -no-remote switch.
Then you can open external links in that profile instance (but not in the other).

Huh. If I didn't know better I would bet that I had tried this and hadn't worked. Thanks for the answer.
