N95 Software Updater for Mac OS X Tiger and Leopar...

Hi Guys,
I am posting this in preparation for potentially migrating from a Windows PC to a Mac.
I have just got an N95 on T-Mobile, which is fully up to date. Currently, at the moment I have a laptop running Windows XP but I am considering moving to a Max OX Leopard MacBook in a couple of months and I wondering whether there is a "Software Updater" application for Mac OS X?
I am very interested to gain a full understanding of the Mac OS X compatibility. So I'd be very interested to hear anything.
Many thanks in advance.
Neil

This infuriates me! The non-microsoft users will remember how you treated us, Nokia. You can make things work cross platform or at least with Wine. This is inexcusable.
i'm a mac user.
before that i was a linux user.
before that i was a BeOS user.
i haven't been a windows user since 1998.
and i dont blame nokia at all for not providing a mac tool to update firmware on our phones.
have you ever updated the firmware on ANYTHING before? no? let me give you the run-down:
1. motherboards. they used to provide DOS boot floppies to update motherboard bios, but these days it's invariably a windows gui tool. yeah - when that change happened all i could think was "PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE dont bluescreen on me"!!!. but, thats the world today - so if you want to update the bios on your linux box, you'd better have a windows drive to boot from.
2. DVD/CD drives. again, windows gui tools - but with a higher percentage of exceptions. in some RARE cases you can even do it from linux.
3. mobile phones. well? i've never had a phone before with firmware updates even AVAILABLE. it used to be that you could tell a good motherboard manufacturer from a bad one by looking for firmware updates to its top 3 models. if there were only a few, and only for the first year, that company sucked (think Biostar). if they had ongoing support, frequent and adding features worth wanting over several years, that was a good company (think Asus). so where does that leave us? Nokia provides ongoing firmware updates. THANK YOU NOKIA FOR CARING ENOUGH TO DO IT.
yes. thank's are in order - not complaints. they dont sell windows. they dont sell macosx. they dont sell desktop operating systems at all. they sell phones. phones that have software. they provide ongoing support for these phones in the form of firmware updates. they give these updates freely and ensure that for a large portion of their user base that these updates can be installed from home with well tested code. for the rest of us? either take your phone to a nokia service center (i think the closest one to me is a 9 hour drive) or use a windows box. OR JUST KEEP YOUR OLD FIRMWARE, hell nokia isn't compelled to provide new firmware in the first place. the fast that they do is nice, but your phone does what-it-says-on-the-tin. you don't need to use windows at all if you dont want, you just cant update your firmware.
i am so sick of hearing the same tired complaints that "we'll never forgive you nokia" and "you make me switch to a competitor". its all **bleep**. you bought your nokia phone because of the features listed on the box. they are good features. the phone has these features, just as promised. use them and rejoice.
hrmph.
N95-1 ---> N97-NAM ---> N900 ---> E7-00 + N900 (I use them both)
(N95 was pretty good, N97 had potential but utterly failed to deliver, N900 is absurdly good. Those of you wondering, "should I try N900/Maemo/MeeGo"? The answer is a resounding YES)

  • Apple releases Java update for Mac OS X Tiger

Apple released J2SE 5.0 Release 4 on Tuesday, an update for Mac OS X 10.4.5 Tiger users. According to notes provided with the update the release delivers improved reliability and compatibility for the Java 2 Platform Standard Edition 5.0. With today's release J2SE 5.0 becomes the preferred Java version, superseding Java 1.4.2. Apple notes that Java 1.4.2 is still installed on the machine, but applications will run with J2SE 5.0 unless they specifically request Java 1.4.2. The update is available as a download from Apple's Web site
or via the Software Update mechanism in Mac OS X.

  • Is there a software update for Apple's Lion OS and my Officejet 6500A Plus?

Has HP released a software update for Apple's new Lion OS (10.7.2)?  My HP OfficeJet 6500A Plus can't find my computer most of the time. scan to computer no longer works since I installed Lion. Now the printer is not recognizing an HP-brand yellow ink cartridge--I've installed TWO new ones already! What a waste. HELP!
    Thanks,
    Jim

Had a text from Nokia on my 3 N8 today saying keep your N8 up to date.
Couldn't find an update through 3, but went to the UK Nokia website and managed to update from software version 011.012 to 013.016 which takes the release from PR1.0 to PR1.1
    Update went very smoothly.
Still trying to track down specific details of the fixes and improvements in this update.
However, I have read that in April 2011 there will be a Release PR2.0
I am particularly interested in this as I understand that it will allow user-defined bookmarks to be added to the Home Screen with their particular "icon" rather than the generic icon, so that you can see in a sort of (dare I say it here?) iPhone way which webpage you are going to access...
    We'll see.

When Apple Software Update for windows comes up, I select the items to update, I accept the eula, the bottom half of the window rolls up and rolls back down and nothing happens. Try checking the rules in your firewall software. Is Apple Software Update being allowed full access to the internet?

  • Updating to Mac OS X Tiger and using Mac OS 9.1 software

I have a G4 computer running on OS 9.1. I am intersted in upgrading to the Tiger, but am concerned that I will have to re purchase all the software I already own especially Microsoft Office 98. I also have Norton utilities version 3.5, Adobe Photodeluxe 2.0 and my palm software.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
First off, Norton Utilities is not compatible with Mac OS X. In fact version 3.5 is not even compatible with 9. You can dump that. Your best utility for Mac OS X is a backup utility:
    http://www.macmaps.com/backup.html
Secondly Office 98 can be replaced by http://www.neoffice.org/
    for free.
Photodeluxe may have an upgrade price to Photoshop Elements available.
Palm software is available for Mac OS X, though some people prefer Missing Sync. Check with Palm's forums which preferred software works with Mac OS X your Palm model:

Before you upgrade to Mac OS X, be sure that your firmware is up to date:
    1. Find out your G4 model here:

    2. Apply the correct firmware update if applicable:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86117
And update to 9.2.2 for best Classic compatibility:

  • TA21009 does a software update for mac os x delete files

I need to update my mac lap top to update my itunes and want to know if I do will any of my music, pictures, or any other files get deleted in the process?

If you plan to upgrade to Snow Leopard from Tiger, then I would urge you go first erase the drive then install Snow Leopard. To do this you will need to make a backup.
That said a normal "upgrade" installation to Snow Leopard will not erase the drive and will not affect your files. However, a backup first is still recommended. And, to avoid possible problems you need to repair the hard drive and permissions before upgrading.
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.

  • Software update for mac mini (late 2006)

What software update do I need to buy for my mac mini (late 2006) so I can update itunes?)

    Hello,
First you need to research all the problems people are having with the higher OSX versions, & make sure you have a bootable clone of what you have just in case.
then you must get 10.6 if they still have it, install it & update to 10.6.8 so you have the App Store to buy & download the huge 10.8 Installer.
    Snow Leopard/10.6.x Requirements...
    General requirements
       * Mac computer with an Intel processor
        * 1GB of memory (I say 4GB at least, more if you can afford it)
        * 5GB of available disk space (I say 30GB at least)
        * DVD drive for installation
        * Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
        * Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and terms apply.
Which apps work with Mac OS X 10.6?...

It's been pulled from the online store & Apple Stores, so you have to call Apple to buy it, last I heard.

  • What is the most recent software update for mac

A really recent MacBook Pro would be running Lion, Mac OS 10.7, and the most recent update is 10.7.3. The delta update from 10.7.2 was found to cause problems and rather than fix them, the update was pulled and Lion users were directed to the "combo" updater which contained all the code necessary to update any Mac running Lion from any previous version of Lion, which is a lot of code, hence the very big download. BTW, 10.7.3 has been problematic for some software so it would be wise to explore the comments and complaints in the Lion forum before you update since you can't go back if you change your mind without having a good backup. Also BTW, this forum is for the Mac Pro; you have a MacBook Pro, which has its own forum and can probably provide you with more useful information.

  • Software update for Mac App store

I tried to update my software to get the new Mac App store. It said everything was downloaded and installed but I couldn't find the Mac app store anywhere on my macbook pro. I tried to check for software updates so see if I missed anything but i had no more updates available. What can I do?
    Thank you

I tried to update my software to get the new Mac App store.
You need to be running Mac OS X 10.6.6 to have it. Mac OS X 10.6 is a paid upgrade.

  • Is there a list of software updates for Mac OS X 10.2 Jaguar available

Now that Apple has discontinued support for my iMac G3, or rather, software update support for systems running OS 9 through OS X 10.3, is there a User-provided list in this forum that might assist me in downloading updates for Jaguar
Here is the Apple article of declared discontinuation: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5405
Furthermore, is there a location in the System that 1:) download packages are stored, and in theory could be restored from an old disc image of my system, and 2) is there a location in the System that stores a History of OS X installs one by one?
I have a disc image of my system; I just am not sure it has every software update that might be needed.
    Thank you for any suggestions.
This system is a iMac G3 128 mb ram, Blue case

    I hear crickets! Thanks anyway.

  • Software update for mac

Why there is no possibility to update my nokia with Mac. the best os system for computer.

Nokia are finally providing some support for the Mac (eg Nokia Media Transfer), which is good. But they still have a long way to go, and I suspect they don't have much time up their sleeve, with the looming threat of the iPhone.
As a Mac user, it is exceptionally frustrating to have to jump through hoops for my Nokia phone, just to perform simple things like firmware updates or downloading maps for the mapping software. These are things which were solved by digital camera manufacturers years ago, yet Nokia seems just a bit clueless in this area. This definitely sours the user experience in a big way, and it's certainly not something I will accept for my next phone.
Even though I use Macs, I won't necessarily get an iPhone next time, though it is likely to be a strong contender. At the moment, it is still not available here, and there are some features lacking in the first version, and I will wait to see how that develops.
One thing which Apple seems to get much better than Nokia, is support - on the few occasions when I have had to contact Apple for support, it has been an efficient, painless experience which has left me a happy customer. Nokia can take weeks to reply to emails, if they do at all, and if you speak to someone there, you often feel that they are trying to bludgeon you with the corporate line, rather than trying to solve your problem.

  • I just downloaded the software update for Yosemite after it restarted and installed the software I have a white screen. What should I do ?o

I Just downloaded the latest software for Yosemite 10.10 after it restarted and installed the software it stopped, now I have a white screen. What should I do now?

    Hi ..
Hold down  the power button until the screen goes black.
Wait about ten seconds then restart your Mac while holding down the Command + R keys.
From there you should be able to access the built in utilities to verify and repair the startup disk if necessary and reinstall OS X. (10.10.1)
