  • Preparing for iOS 6: Maps bookmarks and YouTube favorites

I am excited about the upcoming iOS 6, however, I have some reservations about my backup data:
Now that Maps is getting a complete overhaul, I'm wondering if my bookmarks will be lost. Does anyone know if the bookmarks will still be there? Can anyone who's installed iOS 6 beta tell me if they lost or retained their maps bookmarks?
Also, I understand the built in youtube app will be removed, to be replaced by a 3rd party download from the app store. I have kept many favorites in my youtube app, however I have never signed in to youtube from my iphone. I don't imagine there's a way to transfer them from the old app to the new one before updating (that would just be too easy) is it perhaps possible to sign in to youtube and backup favorites stored in-app to a youtube account? If not, any other suggestions as to how to backup / export / transfer youtube favorites?
    Thanks!

I wish I had know this before painstakingly transfering each favorite manually! Well it's done now, so all my favorites are in my new google/youtube account so hopefully that means I'll never have to worry about it again. Also, I noticed that after updating to iOS 6 my Safari bookmarks had a new folder called "YouTube - Aleks iPhone" (the name of my iPhone) that contained all of my youtube favorites. Is it safe to assume this was a clever solution built in by Apple. That would've also been nice to know about ahead of time.
Just in case anyone else is curious, I can confirm that the Maps app retains all bookmarks, as well as recents. However, anyone in Chicagoland, be warned: I just tested the new turn-by-turn directions today, and on 90/94 west where it splits into the Kennedy and the Edens... when I approached it told me to take the exit for the Kennedy, even though I knew I needed the Edens. I checked the overview of the directions, and it had the correct route and said the right way to turn, it just decided to call the Edens the Kennedy for some odd reason, until of course I was already past the split and it said continue onto the Edens. I don't know if that's on Apple or TomTom, but clearly there's some kinks to work out. Overall, however, it's a huge improvement over the old Maps.

  • Sync maps bookmark between iPad and iPhone

    Hello
I would like to sync maps bookmark between my iPad 2 and iPhone 4
Is there a way to do that ?

There is actually a way via contacts, but not a convenient one.
You have to do it one by one for your existing bookmarks in Maps.
You need a Mac to seperate those "bookmark contacts" from your regular contacts.
I use this method now instead of the Maps bookmarks.
    0. Make the necessary setting to sync your contacts with iCloud on your iOS devices (and your Mac if you want to use a "bookmark group")
    1. Open a bookmark in Maps (or search for something) then click on the i-icon
    2. Choose to put it in a new Contact (modify info as you  like)
    3. Add item for Notes with the text "bookmark"
This "bookmark contact" will now be synced through iCloud to your Mac and other iOS devices
I don't want my contacts to be cluttered with those "bookmark contacts", so I choose to create a seperate group
    4. In addressbook on the Mac do a search for "bookmark"
    5. select file --> New group from selection
    6. after you've added additional "bookmark contacts" in Maps on your iPhone or iPad you have to search and select them and then drag them to your "bookmark group" in address book on the Mac

  • How Do You Migrate Maps Bookmarks?

Hello there, I want to migrate my Google Maps bookmarks (I have probably around 100) to the new Maps program on iOS 6.  How does one go about doing this?

  • IOS8 Maps Bookmarks Renamed and Relocated

On my iPad, all of my Apple Maps Bookmarks, which were changed to Favorites by the IOS8 Update, are no longer accurate. When I select an old bookmark (favorite) it takes me near but not to the original location. Also the pin tag show the approximate address rather than the bookmark name. I have over two hundred bookmarks. Can this be fixed. I have not updated my iPhone to IOS8 and all of my bookmarks on the phone are still correct.

I'm having the same problem, one of many since updating to IOS8.
If I go through the process of saving a "favorite", when I recall it I am directed to the centre of the city, not the address I saved.
The app is useless to me, seeking an alternative.

  • N95 gps on maps

i have recently just got an n95 with the map programme on it.
i am having trouble getting the gps connected though, can anyone help.
i can load the programme, find location and view the map, and routes.
but when i ask it to start the journey, it says no gps signal, what do i do lol

If you goto Settings>General>Positioning>Positioning methods, make sure "Integrated GPS" is ticked.
Now the GPS receiver on the N95 is under is keypad. In order to get the best possible signal, you should slide out the keypad and hold phone at 45 degree angle. It also works best outdoors where it gets a good view of the satellites in the sky. It could take up to 10 minutes or so for your phone to get first fix. You can reduce this time by enabling AGPS but you need network connection to use this. You could also get a bluetooth external GPS receiver.

  • Maps Bookmarking: Possible to create folders?

In Safari, I can create folders for my bookmarks and even reorder the folders by tapping "Edit". I would find it very useful to organize my Maps bookmarks in a similar fashion (by locale, for instance). Yet I don't see any way to create bookmark folders in Maps. Does anyone have any info on this?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
No, that's not possible, if you have any suggestions that you think might enhance iCloud you can send Apple your feedback here.

  • N97 - Maps/Navigation Question (probably a rather ...

I have managed to update my actual maps. So that's good. My compass seems to work, so that is also good.
Before the Maps update I managed to save my home address and set it as a Favourite. Since the update of Maps (the app) and the actual maps themselves, I can't seem to save another Favourite location – such as my work address.
So, this may be a very dumb question, but I'm allowed a few surely? LOL Phones I'm OK with, computers are my livelihood – but GPS is a whole new confusing world to me. OK – I get the basic concept – my device communicates with a silver dish in the sky and decides where I am, I tell it where I want to go, it determines where that is and charts a route for me and guides me on my way (I hope – if the Telstra ad on TV here is any indication, that could be problematic).
How do I save a darn new address and make it a Favourite – I can't even save an address now, yet clearly I did before, because my home address is still there.
Also, I gather I have to subscribe to this thing if I actually want driving instructions etc. For $79.99 a year, it seems rather expensive – what am I actually getting for that $79 when the use of the satellite seems to be charged on my phone bill.
    I'm so confused.
Can someone please give me a kindergarten intro to GPS/Maps/what am I paying for/anything else I need to know?  How to save an address would be a good start!  Or is the answer to that, that my trial period has run out?

    Solved!

    Dear Advanced Sage.
There are 4 components to a "SatNav" system.
1 - A GPS device, which triangulates your position using satellites in space. The same principle that land surveyors use to locate a point by measuring its distance from (at least) 2 other points.Your location is identified as a pair of co-ordinates on the world mapping convention system, latitude and longitude.
    2 - A digitised map (or twelve).
3 - Some software which  locates the identified co-ordinates on the digitised map, and the co-ordinates of any other "known"location. The map includes data about the various roads between the 2 identified locations, and determines the permutations of ways to get from A to B. According to your chosen priorities (faster route, shorter route, no toll roads, no ferries, etc) the software will inform you of the "best" route. It will normally do this by showing you this route, possibly step by step, on the screen of your SatNav.
The cost of these 3 elements  is paid for (once and for all) in the purchase of the phone.
To make the work of the number 1 component easier, that is, the task of the GPS to locate you in the first place, the GPS designers came up with AGPS - "Assisted" GPS. The assistance comes from the phones natural ability know where it is to a crude, but useful, extent by knowing the location of its "cell". This knowledge helps the GPS to calculate its position more quickly, by narrowing down its area of search. For the GPS to acquire this information, it needs to use the phones data connection to send and receive a small chunk of data about the cell, which gives the initial rough position to the GPS.
If you select this AGPS option in your "Positioning" settings, you have to pay for the data connection, or it will come from your data allowance. It's not a lot, and speeds up the operation of the GPS, but it's not necessary for the operation of the GPS.
4 - If, in addition to the visual directions from A to B, as shown on your screen, you want the SatNav to give you directions as you travel, this is known as "Navigation". It's like having a Navigator (as in rallying) sitting in the passenger seat, giving you directions as you go.
Nokia charge a license fee for this "Navigation". From what I've seen recently, the current licenses on offer cover periods up to 1 year. I bought my Navigation license for my old N95, and I was then able to buy a 3 year license, which worked out cheaper per year. I've now tranferred my license from my old N95 to my new N97.
Actually, I didn't have to do anything to "transfer" the license. You can set the license, on the Nokia server, to be linked to either your sim card, or your phone. If you link it to your phone, it will work with any sim card in the phone. If you link it to the sim card, your license will work. no matter what (nokia SatNav) phone you put your sim card in.
    That's about it really.
To sum up, the GPS, software, and maps are all included in the price of the phone, including the software and maps updates. If you choose AGPS you will have to pay for the small data charges from your data allowance. (There's no point in buying this phone without an "unlimited" data allowance - personal opinion). For "Navigation", turn-by-turn direction, you will have to pay for a license.
For what it's worth. I still have my old N95. I felt sorry for it, it's still a great phone, because it was left with no "Navigation" license, although I still had a perfectly working GPS. So I treated it to a copy of Garmin Mobile XT software. This installed perfectly on the N95, and, unlike the Nokia "Navigation" license, you only pay once. There's no term license. Once you've bought it, it's yours. It cost £50 GBP, and is accurate and easier to use than Nokia Maps. It wouldn't work on my N97, though, so I guess it is only for Symbian 3 devices, not Symbian 5. I bought a cheap "Pay and Go" sim card, to enable the Garmin software to use AGPS. The first time I used it thoug, it worked perfectly, and was quick to find my location, even without the AGPS assistance. A lovely bit of software.
    Phew ...

  • IOS 7 Apple Maps bookmarks - no addresses

I type in an address in Apple Maps, a pin appears and I "Bookmark" the pin and give it a name. Then, once maps is quit and relaunched, I can find the new bookmark in the bookmarks list, but there is no address. It just says "Create New Contact, Add to Existing Contact, etc."  In IOS 6, bookmarks would always save the addresses. If I save it as a contact, it does save the address, but I'd rather use Bookmarks for some locations (since that's what it's for). Does anyone know why Bookmarks is not saving my addresses?

Unfortunately, when you select the right arrow, the address and services are missing.  Below are steps to recreate the issue.  These are the same steps I took in iOS6 and never had any problem - it wasn't until the upgrade to iOS7 that Maps now erases the address and contact info for all bookmarks.
    Saving a bookmark
Enter search criteria in Maps search field
    Click '>'
    Click 'Add Bookmark'
Recalling bookmark after opening Maps - after Maps was completely closed from the recent apps window
    Open Maps
Click on book in upper right (right of search bar)
    Select 'Bookmarks' in lower bar
    Select appropriate Bookmark
    Pin is dropped at location
    Click '>'
Address is now gone and 'Directions to Here' is not an option

  • Copying saved landmarks from N95 to N97

    hi,
does anybody know how i can copy the loads of saved landmarks from my N95 to my N97?
there doesn't seem to be something obvious like a simple "export landmarks" menu option, and i don't know where they're actually saved on the phone memory so i can't just copy them onto the N97 to see if it works...
i'm feeling kind of lost without my landmark collections, i'm hoping i don't have to enter them all by hand again!
    thanks

    Hi Nick,
Not certain what is causing the problem, but I do know that your phone needs to download maps, so you should connect using GPRS or Wifi to download the maps and then you should have maps for your locality, but you will need to connect again if you move outside of the locality. The best advise I would say is to get an internet add on for your phone so you won't be charged extra.
you may be able to download maps and load them on also. You may also need to turn off the network assisted GPS so you are only using the built in GPS not the internet to find where you are.
