N95 update to 31.0.017

I have updated my N95 from 21.0.016 to 31.0.017. It went OK, as it says in updater application. But when I tried to restore back up all contacts, messages and settings were lost.
What can I do to restore at least contacts?

Hi sinisatomasevic,
It seems that way, I managed to boot up my N95 one last time just as the courier from Orange arrived to exchange handsets. I quickly connected it to my PC and used PC suite which backed it up successfully.
When I tried to restore the backup, it restored nothing but as I said before, I was able to restore a much older phone based memory card backup. If I'd done this then in theory I'd have lost nothing.
It may be possible to use utilities like Noki to drag the Contacts and SMS information out of the .NBU file, there's a trial version that's free to download.
Hope that this helps.
Alun.

• N95 update - error 1720 message. Any ideas??

When I try and download the N95 update, i get a message saying 'Error 1720. There is a problem with the windows installer package. A script required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor. Custom action Kill_process script error -2147023898,: line 5 column 1,.'
I have no idea what this means, or how to fix it. Can anyone help??
Thanks,

Hi, what version of NSU can you not remove?
I am having same problems (XP user), so frustrating, it's NSU v1.4.32en I cannot remove, when I try and uninstall it I get the message 'This action is only valid for products that are currently installed.' and when I try and install the latest version I get the message 'Missing Software Components. Critical software components are missing. Please reinstall.' then Error 1720.....
Anyway I followed some suggestions, notably uninstalling all trace of Nokia programs (PC Suite & N Series PC Suite) then searching my PC for any Nokia .msi files and deleting those too along with all possible Temp files/folders, then I've tried installing lastest NSU again and still get the same result but also get 'Error 1714. The older version of Nokia Software Updater cannot be removed. Contact your technical support group.' when trying to run the NSUsetup.msi
I've also just reinstalled N Series PC Suite and the Nokia Nseries Update Manager has been stuck on 'Checking for the latest software versions. Please wait' for the last hour and 10mins!
Luckily I've been able to get hold of a laptop to update my N95 8GB later today, but what happens in the future - I' stuck with never being able to update my phone on my desktop (and only) PC... That would be reason enough not to buy another Nokia N series phone and move to another make after 7+ years of nokias.....
The tech support need to sort this problem out asap before they start losing customers.
Not a trace of old NSU versions available too which is probably all that's needed to repair then update or uninstall v1.4.32 that the problem lies with!

• N95 update - Flash software

Hi
i have the N95 standard version and noticed there is an update i will update tonight. In the description i noticed it doesn't mention the flash player update, where as the update for the N95 8GB says it includes a Flash player lite.
so my question is simple.... Does the N95 update include Flash player or am i not as valued as the 8GB customers.
Cheers to who ever replies.

The v15 update for the N95 8GB is much newer than the v20 update for the old N95 so it included the new flashlite 3 which allows youtube to work.
An update is being worked on for the old N95 and it will be released when it's ready. It's rumoured to include flashlite 3 support.
No one knows yet when this will be.

• N95-1 firmware v31.0.017, anyone not suffering fro...

it seems since i updated my firmware my date keeps jumping forward 2 days. i have a weekday alarm set and i switch the phone off during the night. i suspect this combination is something to do with the problem?
Nexu 5

It's a well known bug with v31 on the N95 and N82.  There has been several posts about it.
The only workaround is to leave the phone switched on at night or manually set your alarm after midnight.
The N96 also suffered from this but it was fixed in v12.
All you can do is report it to nokia using the "contact us" link and hope that they fix it.

• N95, updates, maps and going online

Hi
Updated my trusty N95 to V 35.0.002.  Have managed to update maps using latest Ovi suite.  See below for hints)    Have just installed UK maps and English voice and now have 30 days only free navigation. (Just what does happen to my old licence that I paid for 3 yrs?)  'Old' maps was set to go online via WiFi at start up using one of several wifi access points and always worked perfectly.  Now, maps starts and after a few seconds a message comes up saying that there is 'no internet connection, go to Tools" etc. I then go round in a loop where I tell the phone to go online and it tells me that it can't connect.  (This can be during a time when I am connected via a browser to WiFi - ie I have wifi internet access. It also won't connect if I am not already connected via wifi.) My N96 is set up to do exactly the same ( log on via wifi) and manages to log on to wifi by itself.
Any ideas on how to make my N95 connect to the outside world with Maps?
Hints for updating maps.
As can be seen from the forums, Ovi maps are a pain.  I too found this.  My recommendations are:
Uninstall any previous versions of Ovi - it doesn't seem to update properly.
Use something like CCleaner to uninstall anything with Nokia in the title.
Download the latest version of Ovi suite and install.
This seemed to work for me.
Note:  If you have PC Suite installed and Maploader 3:  This worked for my N96 on my work PC running XP SP3 and is recommended because you can select lots of maps and queue for auto  download and installation.   It doesn't work on my laptop running Vista.  I had to use Ovi and install one map at a time on the Vista system
PC Suite and Maploader 3 running on XP refuses to recognise my N95.
Also, it is possible to download a maps package for both the N95 (nokia_maps_3.01_09wk44_b01_s60_3.1_lm_rom.sis)
and N96
(nokia_maps_3.01_09wk44_b01_s60_3.2_lm_rom.SIS)
from Nokia.  If you try to install using PC Suite to either a N95 or N95, both packages say that they are not supported by either the phone or PC Suite.   So why are they there and how can you install them???

Hi,
If you come out of the Maps application and go to Options > Settings > Connectivity > Destinations > Internet/ WAP Services.
you can then select which access point is used for the various network destinations.
Search for existing Access points and see if you can set your O2 Prepay WAP access point as priority 1 Access Point.
Then within Maps ensure that Internet/WAP Services is the method selected to go online in Options > Tools > Settings > Internet >  Network Destinations.
Cheers
Although i work for Nokia, my opinions are my own!

• [N95] Update not available

Hello!
I've read that not all products are updated when nokia releases new firmware.
It seems to be the case with my N95 bought in slovenia from Vodafone - latest firmware is 20.0.015. I've read changelog and there are great changes - where can I find when the upgrade will be available? Should I ask vodafone?
Thanks!

Of course nokia tests it. When nokia is happy with firmware they release it to it's customers which are the networks and people who have bought non-network branded sim free phones.
The sticking point is that the networks insist on performing their own tests before allowing it to be released to it's customers. This costs the network time and money so often they don't bother to do it.
This is one of the main problems of buying network branded phones.
All you can do is wait (and hope) that vodafone approve the update sometime in the future.

• N95 updater probs

Ive had my N95 for two weeks now, and have managed to download the current PC suite. However the site tells me that there is a software update available. I have downloaded the software updater programme but it wont install, informing me that the firewall is preventing installation. I have checked this out but the firewall is configured to allow all nokia progs through. Is there any get around to this problem? I am presently on v11.0.0.026. RM 159 Code 0534841 on Vodafone UK.
Other than the above, I am pleased with the phone, and up to now have had no other problems. Can anyone help?
Thanks in advance. fred39. location South Essex. U.K.

Try switching off all of your firewall, anti-virus and anti-spyware programs then run the updater.
Don't forget to switch them all back on when you've done.

• N95 - Update to PC Suite 6.83 v14.1eng

Hi all
Firstly Nokia.co.uk have added N95 in supported phones list!
As I needed to upgrade from 6.82 v22.0 to 6.83 v14.1eng on Xp and seeing recent posts, I thought this may help:
Make sure your data is backed upto memory card in phone if you have backups in PC Suite as will be deleted!
(1) Uninstall PC Suite 6.82 v22.0 - control panel > etc
(2) Uninstall Nokia Connectivity Driver - control panel> etc.
(3) Install and run PC Suite Cleaner 3.6 selecting option - clean your computer
(4) Reboot
(5) RED BOXED MESSAGE on screen on start-up - Acknowledges that dll. registered
(6) Install PC Suite 6.83 v14.1 eng - can watch progress!
(7) Run PC suite - This is completed in TWO parts, first installs PCsuite application then you click next and it returns to DESKTOP - WAIT about 1 min! - PCSuite starts up
by itself for second part of installation
(8) PC Suite wants to set up N95 - just follow the on screen instructions - I selected cable of the three available options - you need to click PC suite on N95 when prompted as MMsync needs to be installed and OK to install and that should be it
Just thought i'd post while pretty fresh in my mind and hope it helps!Message Edited by scoobyman on 26-Apr-200707:00 PM

Had same problem, lost Bluetooth(Toshiba) from the manage connections on PC suite.
Nokia 6230i, Dell D610 laptop, Dell Wireless 350 bluetooth internal card
Wnet through My computer, right click, properties, hardware, device manager, Universal serial bus controllers, to how the Dell 350 card, right click, properties, driver and Toshiba 3.0.
Tried to find a newer driver on Toshiba site, then Dell site, eventually found v4.0.1227 Toshiba update via R115564.exe at
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&releaseid=R115564&SystemID=W...
Extracted, ran, uninstalled PC suite, restart, re-install PC suite and there it was: Bluetooth(Toshiba) in manage connections. As an additional bonus the problem with no contacts when trying to do a message fixed on this release (/discussions/board/message?board.id=pcsuite&message.id=11263&query.id=247772#M11263)

• Problem after N95 update

Hi all,
I recently updated my N95 and the phone works well, apart from one problem. The voice commands do not work anymore (unlike with the previous version). I've tried to uninstall and install again my bluetooth headphones, to no avail. By the way, the problems remain even when there is no headphone connected, nor is bluetooth switched on.
Does anybody else have got this problem?
Is there a way to fix it?
Thanks for your help
Joe65

Hi joe65
Have you tried backing up phone data and reset *#7370# followed by 12345 (default Nokia unless altered by you) just in case anything got corrupted?

• N95 update prblm, Nokia Refuse to repare !

Update N95 killed my phone. I followed the update procedure as nokia mantioned. This is not my fault!
I bought it in Dubai but now I'm in France for 6 months.
Nokia refuse to repare, the say guarantie is not available in FRANCE!
I should ask a visa to NOKIA before travelling abroad?

Warranties only apply to the country of purchase and only if that model was for that country. The only exception to this is if you buy a european model as the warranty on these is valid all over europe.
Nokia clearly state the warranty terms on their websites.
Most companies operate in this way, for example if you import an ipod from the US for use in the UK the warranty isn't valid.

• Please release N95 update for all unbranded phones

Hello i have a german unbranded N95 and there is still no updates, please release it for everyone.
Thanks

Just read that Sony have announced a new big fxing update for 4.4 kitkat to start rolling out next week  http://www.xperiablog.net/2014/04/03/sony-to-release-new-kitkat-firmware-next-week-to-fix-sound-bug-...
So I'm guessing the unbanded Z1 will prob miss out the first kitkat update and go straight to this second version instead. It will probably be another couple of weeks before all the networks approve this update so my guess is that the unbranded Z1 in the UK wont see kitkat until the second half of April at the earliest.

• N95 update problems

Hello, I'm from Lithuania, but my phone is from england. So I want to update it.

Nokia software updater show this and don't do anything, and I waiting about three hours for finish
My phone show only NOKIA. What's the problem? Sorry for very bad english language

I had the same problem when trying to upgrade software on my Nokia N95.
Part way through the SoftwareUpdate upgrading my software on the N95 (using Software update 1.4.98en running on Windows XP Pro SP3) it prompted for the "BB5 ADL Loader"driver to be installed.
I eventually found out the problem was caused by "Spybot Search and Destroy" stopping either PC Suite or the Nokia Software Updater installing properly when they were initially installed.  To fix this I did the following:
1) Uninstall Spybot Search and Destroy (or at least disable it's services)
2) Uninstall Nokia PC Suite and any associated USB cable drivers
3) Make sure you phone is not connected
4) Reboot the PC
5) Re-install the latest PC Suite for your phone
6) Connect your phone by USB cable (or bluetooth) - and allow drivers to install
7) Run Nokia Software update
This time the drivers should be recognised and auto-install.
Good luck!
