N95 - WLAN Question

Is it possible to connect my phone to my PC using WLAN, but without a router??
I don't have access to the internet at home, but would like to transfer images and music without having to connect using a data cable or taking my memory card out every 5 minutes
V12.0.013 19/06/07 RM159 Nokia N95 (66.01)

I'd recommend Bluetooth as a better option...
Never thought about going wireless without the internet...
You could get an Wireless Access Point...
I guess it'd be possible in theory, I'm not sure how much connectivity you'd get though, it wouldn't connect to PC suite... and you'd have to enable File Sharing in the Home Network settings...

  • N95 WLAN Browsing Costs and Packet Data

I have recently purchased an N95 and am accessing the Internet via my home Wireless Network provided by Virgin Media instead of using the standard Access Point provided by the Mobile Operator i.e. Orange Internet - by doing this, I assume I would incurr no charges from Orange when surfing the Internet as I am using my own Broadband connection?
A seperate question, but related, how does the Packet Data transfer work? My default Access Point for this is Orange Internet, is this a different thing to the WLAN Access Point i.e. my Home Network or is is related? Does the Packet Data work when I'm connected to the Internet or is it mainly for messaging etc? Should I change the default Access Point for this to my Home Network or leave it as it is i.e. Orange Internet?

    Hi sj219706
In answer to your first question, there are no further costs incurred using WLAN with your Virgin Media Broadband connection.
With regards your second question it depends a little upon how generous your GPRS = General Packet Radio Service data allowance with Orange is.
Can I use Nokia Maps application as an example? Unless disabled an active network connection is needed, this may either be through GPRS(Orange) or WLAN(Virgin Media). If you are within range of your WLAN this is your preferred access point.

  • WLAN QUESTION

hi i have a "simple" question . Can i use my E 61 on internet using my data cable connected in a USB slot?
    Thank you

No, I don't think that is possible sorry.
But you can use the useful WLAN on the handset to use the internet connection if you have a router.

  • N95 WLAN Connection problems - Orange Livebox (UK)

I am trying to get the N95 to connect to the internet wirelessly through Orange Livebox (UK). I have run the WLAN wizard and the phone has identified it. I have input the WEP key and thats worked fine.......except everytime I try to connect to the net via this method I get a connection error. Has anybody else had WLAN connection problems? Can anybody help?

    hi,
did you press "1" button at the back of the Livebox before pairing ?
what kind of error message do you get on the N95 ?
does it fail the same way when you go through the homescreen "WiFi scanning / Start Web Browsing" or through Tools / WLAN Wizard ?
    Cheers,

  • N95 WLAN Problems

I am having problems connecting to the internet using my WLAN at the office. The connection allows me to connect ot the local intranet in the office but when i try to connect to the internet error message appears as "Gateway No Reply". I have checked all the IP's and Login including the WEP key everything seems fine. Can anyone Help Me?

One thing to check would be to ensure your DNS IP is set. From previous experience the N95 returns the same message if it is unable to resolve hostnames to IPs.
Alternatively your work environment may have a policy of only allowing certain IP addresses out on the internet.Message Edited by edwardquan on 07-Aug-200708:54 AM

  • E61 memo question + Wlan question.

This is something I am wondering if this is normal.
When I click on the memo's that are shown on the screen, it does not go to the date that the memo is due but like 14 days in the future.
I was thinking it would go to the date of the exact memo, but it does not, is this normal?
    I hope this makes sense...
    Another question :
Can I turn off the Wlan? It seems to drain the battery very fast, or is the fact I use push email over WiFi the reason why I only get like two days of battery life?

So normally, the AP will pull it's code from the WLC, install it in flash, and reboot.  When it comes up it is on the new IOS image.
As for the AP join, take a look at the L3 device config, it could be that it is using a forward for ports 5246/5247 and an IP helper-address to point to the WLC.
it could also be that whomever installed the AP joined them to the WLC them changed what VLAN the AP is on.  At that point, the AP will try to join the last WLC that it was successfuly joined to.

  • N95 wlan web no gate way reply

hi. i have a nokia n95 and i get this message web: no gate way reply with most of the wlan connections i connect to. before i upgraded to version 21 of the FW, it was ok but after some wlan hotspots worked and some didnt. At my college where i used it the most it stopped working. i decided to reinstall the firmware but it still didnt work and the ones which did work dont seem to be working either. i read all the other suggestions but nothing helped.(disabling the power saving option) so please help me out. Thanx. Maz.

I've had the same problem.Try doing this:
Menu > Tools > Settings > Connection > Access points.
Try deleting them all except those from your operator. Those from your operator should be marked with an icon two arrows pointing in the opposite direction and the wi-fi access points with circle and four little squares in it.

  • E65 Gmail/WLAN question

    Hello!
I just got this phone, and so far love it. Can someone please help me out in setting up my gmail as an e-mail account? For some reason, it is very very laggy and only retrieves random old messages....not the new ones. Very weird! Also, it only sometimes works in retrieving messages...sometimes, I have to hit cancel and do it again.
Anyone else have this problem? Would it be a problem with my router? I have a FON router...
Please let me know as I love this phone so far and want to use gmail!!!
Oh, also, the WLAN is only letting me go to a few sites - it doesn't go anywhere on many sites like www.gmail.com, or random surfing.
    Please advise. Thank you!

Gmail has its own application you can install to access your Gmail account - it's really good, and will let you view by inbox/starred/labels etc.
    Well worth getting:

  • N95 update question

    Hello to everyone around here.
I am new, but I'm a loyal Nokia "fanboy" having used Nokias since 1998. (I still have an old 3310, and im using it daily, by the way)
I have a question regarding the update of N95.
I wish to buy it, but the provider ( !!! ) said : Hmm, I wouldnt advise you. It's full of errors.
I wonder if the firmware update removes all these software crashes and other "bugs". And also if it does, does it matter if I am from some country?
    Thank you.

    Dear paratrooper,
I agree with kevineu saying most of the problematic ones are network bound. I suppose so judging from my country.
I myself use Nokia from the years of 5130 and Symbian from her first phone, 7650, followed by 7110, 6600 and now N95. I have never experienced problems caused by the phones themselves even when I TRIED to push them to their edge. I don't know if your friend is responsible and if that's the case, what he has done to get this result, but I am honestly interested in learning what it takes to bring a N95 to this point. Small deficiencies may occur of course (after all we are talking about state of the art, extremely meticulous piece of equipment) but what you describe is either hard use (hardware and/or software), or network bound or specific device bad manifacture (which is also expected of course but not meaning anything for the N95 as a release on the whole). I say, get it, upgrade it not as a need but just because you can and it's useful and load it with the map of the country you are going to study. Trust me, you'll need it...

  • N95 WLAN makes my Linksys hang

    Really with my N95, but...
When I use my home network's WLAN to browse the web for about five minutes, the connection is lost
Worse, it is actually the wireless Linksys router that hangs up. My laptop cannot find it either. The only way to get the WLAN back is to power off/on the router. N95 finds the WLAN after that without having to power it down first.
Am I the only one with this problem or is this a known firmware issue?

    To follow up this post:
    With *#0000# I got:
    V 12.0.013
    19-06-07
    RM-159
    Nokia N95 (D5.01)
I purchased a Netgear WPN824 RangeMax router and I still got problems with the hanging WiFi connection on my Nokia N95. Only that this time it was the N95 that got frozen and not the router. I found the following remedy with the search engine:
Menu -> Tools -> Settings -> Connection -> Wireless LAN -> Options -> Advanced Settings -> (Warning..) Yes -> Automatic Configuration (Disabled) -> Power Saving (Disabled).
After I disabled the power saving feature the connection remained stable even if the signal level was medium or low. Previously in these cases I got quickly stuck both with Netgear and Linksys ADSL routers.
To be noticed that I have never had problems with N95 in our corporate WiFi network where the signal level is high everywhere. Clearly this is a compatibility issue in the handshaking between the router and N95 in the case the latter decides that it is time to cut off for a while in the sake of the battery life.

  • [N95] GPS Question

    Hi,
I got an unlocked N95 (US), I updated to latest firmware and everything works fine with the GPS. I can lock the satellites and get an accurate position of my location.
I am planning a trip to another state and to speed up downloads I downloaded and installed Nokia Map Loader v1.1 in my PC and tried to download the new State without success. The steps I followed were:
1.- Connect the N95 via USB and select Mass Storage
2.- Run Nokia Map Loader and select the State I want to download
    3.- Click download
    I got the following messages:
    - Verifying Mass Storage
    - A downloading progress bar that fills up completely
    - The Save to storage bar never moves and the window with it closes
    - Verifying Mass storage message again
    - Error message: Mass Storage had been disconnected, connect it and try again.
The disk never disconnects, actually I an see it all the time under My PC
I tried different states, countries with similar results.
    Any idea what is happening?
    Thanks

    Hi seti
I don't whether this has anything to do with the fact that you are using the latest version of Maploader v1.1, but the latest version of Nokia Maps 1.1 is NOT currently available for the N95 if you check Smart2go site. It has been reported elsewhere that this is due to a problem in "licnce manager" soon to be reolved.

  • Nokia N95 Wlan Wizard has stopped working

    Hi
Ive had my phone since July and my wlan wizard had been working perfectly up till yesterday. I checked the wlan wizard details and it says the signal is strong 100% and my network is named etc, there does not seem to be a problem there. Everytime i try to start web browsing the browser wont load, the screen refreshes but just stays on the Wlan Wizard screen.
Anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this??
    many thanx
    Dawn

    @ mizz71,
Have you configured your access point prior to browsing the internet? The wizard only tells what is the available WLAN access point(SSID), you have to select which one you wanted to use be it secured or open.

I'm pretty sure there's no way of setting a proxy in the web browser on the N95, or using Opera...
If I'm mistaken, I'm sure I'll be told lol
Does anyone know of a browser that does allow you to set a proxy server? Just so I can use the wifi at work
    Thanks
