N96 automatic email retrieval problems

quick question: I have set up my N96 to get my emails every 1 hour. However, whenever it checks for the emails a message pops up where I need to MANUALLY select how the phone is supposed to connect to the mailbox (WLAN, 3G or whatever). Hardly makes sense, as I want th phone to AUTOMATICALLY check and not select 3G every hour by hand. Any idea where/what I need to change?
Cheers,

There's a bug in the N96. Normally, you should be able to go into the mailbox settings and change the default access point to use, but you can't because of this bug.
Untill the bug is fixed, you'll have to delete the mailbox and then re-create it specifying an access point to use.

  • Automatic email retrieval problem 5800 XM

Can anyone explain the following behaviour on my shiny new 5800?
I have several mailboxes set up (UK Orange/ personal WLAN) and the access points are set up seemingly according to the rules. I wish my emails to be retrieved automatically at 15 minute intervals during the working day. BRILLIANT... it all works perfectly.
    BUT.......
I also want it to prioritise the connection (access point) it uses so that it uses my WLAN whenever possible. I believe that this should be possible to achieve using the access groups setting in destinations; the "Internet" group is even set up with the correct priorities automatically. Unfortunately unless I have a single access point (eg WLAN) set up as default access, retrieval magically becomes manual only; not only that, but if out of WLAN range, even a manual retrieval results in an error (WLAN not available) instead of moving smoothly to the Priority 2 access point (Orange internet).
Sorry it's a bit long and rambling - but very frustrated here as I can't seem to find any other settings which might affect this behaviour.
    Thanks

This sounds like a reasonable request, is the v11 firmware just broken in this regard?

  • Bug with automatic email retrieval (don't want to ...

Please tell me where to report bug?
When I set automatic email retrieval on my N71 after retrieving email phone stay connected and don’t want to disconnect automatically so i need go to inbox and set disconnect.  Its a stupid way of automatic retrieval it suppose to connect, check mail and disconnect. I try it on my N95, same problem. It's spending battery too much. And it’s a big bug.
    Best Regards.

    Hi Rumcajs,
Any ideas why the connection is not lasting for the day instead of 10-30mn?
Or let me re-phrase: How can I have the e-mail client on my E75 to pick up e-mails on the e-mail server all day long and instantly as it works for web-browser or using thunderbird client? As a user I want to turn on my phone in the morning and then select the "connect all" option either on my Wi-Fi network or 3G network and then get my e-mails all day long without having to re-connect every 1/2 hour (in my case 5mn).
I'm using multiple e-mail accounts: my work account (IMAP idle), gmail and windows live.
If I select the "connect all" option it usually connect to only one of the mailbox and never to the three of them.
I usually have to repeat the "connect all" operation 3 times. Why and what (if there is one) is the fix so that the connect all does connect to all your e-mail accounts in one go?
The connect all is an option from the main e-mail screen, where you can see the icons of all your different e-mails accounts and the settings, new and help icons.
Last, it would be good to be able to use Nokia's "destination" for e-mail account. The "destination" feature work with other application and it is very appreciated to prioritise the connection (Wi-fi 1, Wi-fi 2, ... Wi-fi x,  3G) to use.
Any ideas if this will be supported soon?
    Regards,
    Benoit

  • Automatic email retrieval interval ~ E65

Within the email settings on my E65 I only have the option of setting my automatic email retrieval interval to a maximum of 30 minutes.
Why wouldn't you be able to set it much higher like down to 15, 10, 5, or even 1 minute.
This drives me crazy. Does anyone have a workaround?
    Thanks,
    J

It's probably not much consolation to you, but if you use imap instead of pop you can reduce the automatic retrieval time to 5mins.

  • Automatic Email retrieval options

Can anyone explain the difference between the email auto retrieval options?
On my N95, in Messaging->Options->Settings->Email->Mailboxes->{Mailbox}->Automatic retrieval there are two settings:
    E-mail notifications
    - Auto-update
    - Only in home netw.
    - Disabled
    E-mail retrieval
    - Enabled
    - Only in home netw.
    - Disabled
You can only set one of these, i.e. E-mail notifications or E-mail retrieval. What does "Auto-update" do, and what does "home network" mean? Not WLAN home network I assume ...?
The E-mail notifications setting does not seem to work. I've tried this on both IMAP and POP mailboxes. The retrieval settings work fine.
    Any help?
    Thanks,
    Piers.

    Hi,
Has anyone else had problems with applications locking up while using 'Automatic Retirieval' through 'Access Point Groups' on a wireless network?
My phone works fine in every other respect but as soon as I schedule it to access my email account (not BB) I invariably get one of the following instabilities:
The email application will not collect at the set intervals or...
It'll collect emails at the set intervals for a while & then lock up either the:
    • Email application,
    • All internet applications,
    • The 'Email key' (but the application is still accessible via the icons).
    • or the Email Key loses its settings: ‘Item no longer available. Restoring default multimedia key’
I can manually collect email & use the web through the same ‘Access Point Group’ & I have two other computers running off this wireless network fine?

  • E63 email retrieval problem

My E63 crashed after a software update last night. I seem to have recovered most stuff, but now can't access my emails from the Active Home Screen. It shows that new emails have arrived, but when I click on the icon - nothing happens. Just stays on the home screen. I can access emails by going Menu-Installations-email, but this is a bit of a faff!
Any ideas? I'm using the Nokia Messaging email for my Hotmail account. It all went smoothly for the last year....
    Cheers

You can use Nokia PC or OVI Suite to backup your E63. Since you already reformatted the E63, it's a kind of useless.

  • Email retrieval problem.

I can not get my yahoo emails on my iPad but I can on my IPhone. The password is correct. Anyone know how too fix this?

Well, since your iPhone receives perfectly, use it as the model to set up your iPad.
On your iPhone, check Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > (your Yahoo account).  Check the Incoming Mail Server settings, particularly the host name and server port (if you have that, it may be under "Advanced").
Make sure they're set the same on your iPad.

  • N97 mini, email retrieval, and definition of "home...

Could somebody please explain what is meant by "home network" in the automatic email retrieval settings? I can't find any place to define this "home network" and I can't find info in the manual about it either. At home I'm connected to my WIFI network but at other places I'm either connected via GPRS or via other WIFI networks, so it's impossible for the Nokia to just know what my home network is.
What I did notice is that automatic email retrieval only works if I set "Email retrieval" to "Enabled". If I set it to "Only in home network" then it doesn't work.
What I really want to achieve is that email is retrieved automatically only when I'm in a WIFI network and not when I'm using GPRS.

    Hi Justasking,
Availability of firmware updates is dependent on carrier and country variants. If your phone is branded (e.g. Vodafone is your carrier and has there custom wallpapers / apps etc), then Nokia release the firmware to your carrier and it is up to them whether they will work on and release the update to you. If your phone is a country variant, this means that Nokia releases the firmware to your country's Nokia, and it is up to your country whether to add their own country requirements / custom apps etc. If your phone is branded, contact your carrier for an update schedule and availability, but if your phone is a country variant, contact your local Nokia Care point and ask them about availability.

  • Email retrieval (pop) N95 8GB

I have configured my Gmail account and have managed to retrieve only some old email, the newer ones won't push through. Also I don't seem to be able to send email via Gmail.
It must be configured right, I've set it for automatic retrieval now but when I got the old messages earlier I retrieved them by pressing the "retrieve email".
Is it possible to have them push through automatically like I did with my old E65 or do I have to request them each time?
    Thanks
    David

there are two kinds of automatic retrieval, Polling and IMAP IDLE. these are not well differentiated in the software and are labeled like this:
Email notifications (this is IMAP IDLE)
Email retrieval (this is polling on a schedule)
which one did you enable? if it is the first one (notifications) then, someone please correct me if i'm wrong, this is only going to function with IMAP (rather than POP) access. you can easily enable IMAP in gmail, just like you enabled POP.
if you chose the second option, 'retrieval' then you should see new mails arrive on the schedule chosen (5 minutes is the most frequent available option on my N95-1). if this is the option you chose, then it's the right option for POP access. if the messages are failing to arrive, then perhaps there is an issue with the access point you've defined for automatic retrievals?
i've never owned an E series device, can't say anything about the comparison of how they work or why the same procedure doesn't result in the same functionality across the two devices - but i CAN say that using the IMAP protocol, and 'Email notifications' works properly on my N95-1, with one major exception.
the only issue i have is that the mail client must be connected at all times in order to receive new mail notifications. this is true of other mail clients (even, ie Blackberry email requires this, just the connection can be hidden from the user as it is a dedicated service). no problem, open messaging, connect to gmail, sit back and enjoy the inbound message notifications.... but if the connection drops for any reason (ie: on edge and place/receive a call; on 3g and travel through an area of limited/no service; etc) the mail client doesn't even try to re-establish the connection. so, if the connection is dropped you get no new notifications because you aren't connected to gmail's servers anymore. this is where 'email retrieval' might be better, because it fires on a timer, effectively guaranteeing that you won't be offline longer than the interval you've setup.
i wish they allowed both to function simultaneously: enable notifications so if you're connected you get push email; enable retrieval so if you're offline the mail client will reconnect after X minutes. sadly there's no way to legitimately do this with the native mail client.
if you're still awake after my dissertation on mail settings, i congratulate you. i'm done procrastinating (should be working), so you're safe from more long-winded responses for the rest of the night.

  • Manual Email Retrieve being Ignored??

I am in Thailand, and I just got a message from AT&T that my data bill is $500 after 30 days. I have had Data Roaming turned "OFF" for the majority of my trip. I have Email retrieval set to MANUAL at all times.
I have turned on Data Roaming for a split second to send someone an email, and every single time, my phone repeatedly - repeatedly - repeatedly retrieves my email despite the fact that its set to MANUAL retrieve. I do not remember it doing this automatically when I first got it.
The AT&T reps (3 different ones) told me that mail WILL BE RETRIEVED NO MATTER WHAT unless I have both DATA ROAMING "Off" and "MANUAL" selected. Think that sentence over for a moment.
Either this phone is not working properly (as per basic logic), or something is very wrong. When data roaming is ON and MANUAL is set, it should NOT retrieve email unless I initiate it. Period! What is the point of a manual setting if its going to automatically retrieve?
I now have a $500 data bill. Who is going to pay it? Im sure not!

Okay so your response is "Cuz".
Guess what? Before they added the "Turn off Data Roaming" option four months ago, "the way the software worked" was to have data roaming on all the time, and people got bills for $50,000 (literally). Helpful people like yourself could have said "Thats just how the software works".
If it isnt painfully clear at this point, I am raising an issue that "the way the software works" is faulty.
As for your hindisght and equally unhelpful continuous mention of the "Manual", may I remind you that Apple brags about the iPhone being so intuitive that a manual is "not needed" and therefore intentionally does not include one with the sale of the phone. In addition to this, the day I bought mine, I asked the apple store rep if I should get the manual and he told me "Nah! The phone is meant to be user friendly, you really dont need it". Well guess what...
The bottom line is this: JUST LIKE the data roaming OFF button needed to be "added to the software" a few months ago, the software needs to be modified to NOT download "DATA" without user permission. I should be able to send an email without downloading 25 emails from my inbox against my will. This is no different than people being billed $50,000 for data that the phone downloaded against their will, and the Apple people agreed. Sorry that you don't.

  • Bursting & Automatic eMailing from EBS with subtemplates

    Howdy,
We have our purchase orders set up so that with a flag checked our purchasing agents can automatically have the pdf file split by PO number and have each (separate PO) emailed directly to them upon completion of the report (assuming they have an eMail address in EBS). This works fine.
We also have our purchase orders set up to use several subtemplates for company specific info such as company logos, phone & address info as well as two pages of terms and conditions that optionally can be printed (controlled by an imput parm/flag).
Okay, bursting works great. The automatic emailing works great. And I can create my POs and view them on line with full terms and conditions great.
BUT, if I try to including the terms and conditions and burst/email the po shows up in my email normally but without the terms and conditions.
I suspect it is a problem with the subtemplate, but I am at a loss as the other information that is fed from OTHER subtemplates (phone, address, logo, etc) is all appearing fine in the burst/emailed purchase orders.
Any ideas why EBS refuses to burst/email my terms and conditions (only)?
    Scott

issue has been resolved after adding VIP ip information to EBS host, and this is due to missing RAC VIP entries in EBS middle tier.

  • E72 and Nokia email Major problem

Oh Nokia what have you done. I was using the Nokia email from nokia.email.com and in there I had my yahoo.com email account. You now longer let the yahoo.com address work inside the Nokia email.
So now I had to manually add my yahoo.com email address into the E72, but everytime the phone checks for email, it takes up so much of the phone cpu power all else locks up. Even has dropped my phone call as the whole phone went into a CPU bound state...
Nokia give me back my yahoo.com email in my nokia.email.com account. Let us add them back in. What have you done. You have basically killed anyone from using a Nokia E72 and yahoo.com email address.

As for whether Yahoo is a paid service for pop email or not is not a debate here. If you are a Verizon FIOS or Comcast internet customer in the USA, you get the POP email of Yahoo free. I am one of these so it is free.
But the fact remains. I used to use the Nokia email message service and had YAHOO as one of my email accounts. It picked up my yahoo.com email for over one year with very few issues. Onfe in a while I would have to restart the phone. Then last week it suddenly stopped.
I called customer servuice and they told me that Nokia email service no longer would work as I had it, to delete the yahoo account and re-add it.
When you re-add yahoo.com email address, it forces an IMAP setup (although I can tell you how to make the Yahoo pop work as I was able to override and trick the phone). As soon as you typ in any address @yahoo.com, it forces you to their IMAP setup within the Nokia E72.
So in IMAP setup of yahoo.com email on my main Ey2  screen I have my yahoo.com email account dstatus displayed. It simply says YAHOO MAIL and in parenthesis the number of unread messages. so mine right now says Yahoo Mail (23)
I have the phone set to check for email every 5 minutes... Pick up UPTO the last 100 messages and also pickup upto 500kb of email data (the old Nokia email message service way it would ask you HOW MANY WEEKS to go back and it would pick up most all email except not download attachments)
When the phone checks. it deletes MOST every (NOT EVERY) message in the yahoo inbox. If you are wtaching the main screen, you see the "23" for the amount of unread go all the way down to 1 (never to zero I dont thing) and then count back up to either 23 or if new email is there, it will go higher.
If you are in the yahoo inbox, you see the emails disappear and then re-appear as it deletes and re-synces all the email
Now if you are unlicky to be on the cell phone during call when it does this re-sync, it take so much CPU, that soemtimes I drop, but if I am in the middle of talking, I "zap" out for a second or two and the other person is wondering what happened if I am in the middle of a sentence. Onc again the phone seems to be CPU bound and all else stops working exceopt the retrieval of that email.
So MOST of the time when the phone is checking the yahoo account, it takes up so much CPU that the phone is basically unresponsive.
I seem not to be the only one who is having issues with a Nomkia hone and Yahoo.com
LOOK  here there are at least 2 others..

NOKIA's own support people told me that the NOKIA email program changed.  Yes it changed and now people are having issues with YAHOO.COM email.
Nopw if you would lik to knopw how to setup YAHOO.COM on a pop.. simply\
create ANY other POP account. It can be real or phoney. Then go back in and simply change the settings for yahoo.
    they are simple
user name / login:  email address w/o the yahoo.com.
    pop: pop.mail.yahoo.com
    smtp:: smtp.mail.yahoo.com
password: hey its your password. dont ask me
    email adress: full [email protected]
this seems to work. it does not kill the phone. It does not re-do all he email every time.
There is something about imap and yahoo.com email that you have messed up here and alot of us are seeing it.
    NOKIA what have you done?
All I want back is what I had just over a week ago. Once of the best phones in the world, fully working with my eMail...

  • Help needed from manojpj regarding sending automatic emails

    HI manojpj,
I saw your post in this forum regarding sending automatic emails.
In my project also i want to send automatic emails and also want to retrieve emails automatically.
i did retrieving and sending emails with user interaction. But i want to do automatically. In your post you told that your having code for sending automatic emails.
can u please send me that code?
    Thanx a lot

Dont hold your breath, there is a thread with hundreds of people asking for such code and no-one ever posted it.
The easiest way is to use a cron job
If you want to use Java instead of cron have a look at
    http://www.opensymphony.com/quartz/wikidocs/FAQ.html
Its a java based job scheduler, you can use this to shedule your mails, or, as its open source, you can just take the code you need and add it to your esisting mailing code.

  • E71 hanging Data connection after automatic email ...

    Hello all,
My E71 seems to suffer from hanging Data Packet Connection after automatic email retreival.
So I configured my email IMAP4 retreival and set it to automatic retreival every 15 minutes.
Then after a few hours I check my phone and there is a data connection open and active. If I check the connections it is open for a few hours, sucking my battery.
What should I do to make it automatically disconnect after email retreival?
PS: I configured my packet data settings with "Data Packet connection only when needed"
    Regards,
    Menno

I found the only solution is to set the frequency of update to more than 30 minutes. This really is a problem since the next interval is 2 hours, not 1 hour like in other nokia devices. I don't believe that my nokia N series had this problem, either.
This is a SIGNIFICANT issue that needs to be fixed by nokia considering they want the e71 to be messaging/email device. It is very annoying to have to be prompted to close the data packet connection to do anything; i.e. make calls, use google maps, etc. Checking e-mails only once every 2 hours is obviously not a solution either.
    Get on the ball nokia!
