N96 firmware help

I got a text and email from nokia saying there was an update so "checked Can i Update?" page where you type in product and it say's v11.018 is available.
but when i try do an Over the Air or NSU update it says there is'nt an update available
so i 'm stuck using buggy v10 even though all proper sources say v11 is out for me.
Can some1 reccomend anything or as anyone got the power to do a check with nokia ppl
My code is 0573063 and phone is a sim free variant in UK
any help or suggestions will be appreciated ty in advance

ok i took it to the shop and it seems my product code under battery did'nt match the code on the device itself,
i have no idea how this happened b/c i got the phone new and never messed with it.
well any way it answers why on the website it said v11 was out b/c it was for code under battery which was'nt my real code lol
any way everything was soeted out and now i have correct product code in my phone.

Where can I find the N96 firmware 30.0.33 changelog?

changelogs contain the changes made from previous firmware versions to the new firmware version updates. however, these are considered confidential information by Nokia and are not released into the public domain. your best bet is to read up on users subjective experiences by Googling for the firmware changes/improvements/bug fixes etc.

Mfe not working proper on N96 firmware v30

Dear Sir,
i have changed my phone from nokia n95 to nokia n96,
firmware version 30.x.
Mfe doesn't work with charm here.
I have attached log file for your further help.
I have to uninstall it and reinstall it every.
Mail For Exchange Error -15032 is one of the errors.

I think the only thing you can try now is a hard reset. Unfortunately it means that all the data in your phone's internal memory (C: drive) is lost, so unless you've done a backup recently...
With the phone switched off, press simultaneously the 3, * and green 'call' buttons. Keep them pressed in and switch the phone on. Do not release them until you see signs of life such as the Nokia logo or the region selection screen.
It may take somewhat flexible fingers and more than one attempt to do this.
If it doesn't solve the problem then your only course of action is to take your phone in to your local Nokia Care Point.

N96 (firmware 30.33 ,lastest version) BT connectio...

Hi, I got one problem with my N96(firmware 30.33 ,lastest version) with NOKIA headset BH-904. In the first week, there was NO any problem in BT connection. After that, my N96 would cut off BT connection with BH-904 every time about 3 seconds right after recognize & connect. My N96 is able to connect other BT headset. My BH-904 is also able to connect other cell phone. It seems to be a N96 BT compatibility problem !!!!! Can any NOKIA guys fix it ???

I'm not a real technology expert - but guess what. I bought BH-904 and used it succesfully about 1.5 weeks with E71. No problems at all. But then BH-904 just disconnected. And then never were able to connect more than 30 seconds with E71. Just like that.
Nothing helps: Resetting or charging the BH-904, deleting all BT pairs in E71, factory reset of the E71, uploading the latest firmware on E71, resetting and building all the settings from scratch. Always the same result - BH-904 connects to the E71 and disconnects in 2...30 seconds. Always the same.
If connecting to a new(another phone, seems to stay connected longer time - but no experience whethet the same happens in one week.
E71 works fine with BT with a computer. Worked one year with BH-900.
I had no other option than return the BH-904 for repair.

N96 Firmware update problem, pls help.

I've just tried to update the firmware and when it reached step 3/3 (which is updating the software) it returns me an error message of Phone Recovery telling me steps i should take i.e
1. Remove Battery and charger from phone.
2. Insert battery and connect charger.
3. Click Retry n continue.
4. Press the phone's power button.
I even did that and it still returns to this same error. Can anyone assist me in this as i'm have no idea what to do now.

Try this:
- Have fully charged battery put in device and no charger plugged-in
- When 'Phone Recovery' dialogue occurs, remove battery but NOT USB cable (IMPORTANT)*
- Put battery back
- Press 'Retry' and count to three (21, 22, 23)
- Press power button on device
NOTE: It's extremely important detail: first 'Retry' button and then power button on device (NOT vice-versa!)
*IF you removed the USB cable close NSU and start over.
If it fails dissconect. Close NSU, power up device, co

I have got N96 today and I want to update the firware from v12 to v20 but FOTA says v30 is available,please any help about this cuz under v30,the feature is supported.I prefer v20 to 30

Unfortunately, you cannot pick and chose which firmware to update to. Nokia suite or FOTA will only offer the latest available version for you to update to.

N96 firmware problems

hi all, sorry if this has been asked over and over, but any help with this will be great!
I recently got my 2nd n96 (lol dont ask) and decided to try upgrade the firmware before i fill it with contacts and such,
I am currently using v 11.018, and have seen at least one more update on from that 12.050? 20?!
Problem being, NSU doesnt show an update and likewise the nokia site shows no available update for my product code.
Similarily in device manager the search for updates shows no updates.
So i am wondering is there a way to change my code, or do i sit and wait for it (doesnt feel like it will ever come to be honest!) or is there a way i can get NSU to recognise my code for a firmware upgrade?
I am in the UK on Vodaphone and my product code is 0572092

Try a format *#7370#. All data saved to phone will be erased so make sure that you have backed up all important files

N96 Firmware update

I am aware that a new firmware has been released by Nokia for the N96. However i am not able to get hold of it yet. I have a UK Vodafone phone & contract.
1.Can you advise how i can install this new firmware?
2. Will it address the various problems such as:
a) software crashes and freezing,
b) phone reboots itself for no reason,
c) GPS location is not always possible, but when i use google maps on the phone my location is found
d) Music player will cause the phone to shutdown if you use it for more than 60minutes
e) battery feels warm when several applications are running or you are doing anything continuously for more than 15 minutes
3) is it possible i can download the firmware via your website and install it myself?
4) will i need to unlock the phone to get the update now?
I have had the N95, N95 8GB and now N96 phones. Sadly they all failed to live up to the hype of matching the power of the IPhone, which i am reluctant to buy. If i cant get hold of the firmware and i still have the software glitches then i may be forced to become another Apple IPhone fan.
Like most people here we just want a good phone that can do all that you claim it can do.

Nokia provides the firmware to Vodafone and other operators usually before the generic firmware (or what others call de-branded; unbranded) is released via NSU or FOTA by Nokia. it is then up to Vodafone to modify the firmware to their tastes, or if they don't wish to then they won't. if the firmware is modified by Vodafone it becomes branded firmware and is given back to Nokia who will then distribute it through NSU or FOTA for the specific product codes for that firmware (i.e. product codes will be for the Vodafone variants of the N96). this is why Vodafone tell you to go to the Nokia website to update your phone, no operators actually handle the update processes themselves. another reason they tell you this is to divert the blame to Nokia, and Vodafone not accept resposibility for the laziness/poor attitude taken by their programmers to put out updated firmware for their phones. or excuses for why they firmware is so crippling. so in essence, they're not really being truthful, yes. it's not really Nokia's fault in this case, its often Vodafone's.
i'm unsure if you can get out of your contract as Vodafone probably has all the jargon to cover themselves for their inadequacies. by preying on the customers lack of knowledge, they suck more unsuspecting customers in to make more money. this should answer your question pretty well.

N96 Firmware v12

Has anyone updated to this firmware yet in the UK and if so has it finally sorted the WiFi bug ppl have been having with the Sky/Netgear broadband router x

The Sky/Netgear bug is a bug in the router's firmware rather than in the phone.
This said, I have noticed a marked improvement in WLAN connectivity on my N96 (connecting to a generic Netgear wireless access point) since I updated to V12.
There are other improvements that mean it's worth updating anyway even if it doesn't solve your Sky broadband problem.

N96 - memory - help

Hi. So I just got a n96 and I'm having some trouble with it. It says that the total mass memory available is 14,9gb and the total phone memory is 82mb, is this normal? even after I reset it an reinstalled the firmware it stayed the same. I spoke with some people at nokia and they asked me to go to menu - options - memory details, but there is not such option on my n96 so they told me to try to exchange it at the store I bought. But before I do that I went on another store and tested another n96 and is the same thing. So should I exchange it? Is it normal? Please help!!!!!!

First of I have an N96 too, and my phone shows 14.7GB free too, I am an IT technician, and in my field we are use to this kind of questions, you see what many company do is round the number (as in the size of any memory) up to the nearest whole number, so even thought the phone should have 16GB of "Mass Memory" it only shows something along the lines of 15 point something, this is the rounded up to the nearest whole number (16) and this is what they will advertise, to show you an other example of this, if you have a USB memory, on the box it may say 1GB or something other "whole number" size, but if you plug it in to your PC, you will see that is 900 and something MB, same applies to a PC hard disk or any other memory that I can think of, I hope this helped you and enjoy your N96.

He means the mass memory inbuilt in the phone as the N96 comes with 2 inbuilt memories and SD card slot.

N96 Firmware 30.033 Wlan

Just "upgraded" N96 to 30.033 firmware over the air and the phone keeps on scanning for wlan's all the time - even though I have turned it off in every location it still keeps on searching for wlans. It was not on before I updated the firmware... Any assistance would be appreciated?

i think there is an option in the settings that allows Wlan to scan automatically in a period of time like (5 minutes or so)
you can change it to OFF or Manually

Can't update my N96 firmware

I have downloaded Nokia Software Updater for my N96, when I run the program it says my current firmware is 10.065 and that an update of 11.101 is available. I have downloaded the 115mb update, everytime I start the update process it never gets past saying 15 minutes to go, then it goes into phone recovery mode. I can never get past this point. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the program but this has not worked. During the time it trys to update the firmware it sounds like the phone disconnects from the computer a number of times. I am running Windows XP on my laptop and using the latest version of Nokia Software Updater. Can somebody please help me?

Must say..i have my K700i which still seemlesly connect to PC on bluetooth as a remote and works like a charm. Syncs with all PC softwares and keeps me updates.
Nokia advertised DVB-H in N96 which is just useless in UK. Then coming to Navigation ... well They have got technology but they are making it useless when not providing API functions for programmers. I have not seen any good coding practice for Media Player on Nokia Phones. Last time I played an FLV file on Nokia and it went straight to media player where I am not allowed to create playlist or even ask it to search for Stored video files.
Menus and Settings are so customized and blocked by service providers that most of you might have not noticed but when even I click centre button about 76% of time it goes to another menu and I have to come back.
During driving you should be able to go on handsfree or loudspeaker with press of at most two buttons. If you are using an application you have to come to main screen to switch on loud speaker which is not a good thing as this phone has got about 8 buttons which can be easily configured to provide such functionality with just single press (or keep press for 5 seconds)
Anyways I think there are better programmers and coders present with SE than Nokia and when Nokia decided using OpenSource Symbian it should respect OpenSource developers and help them to develop things and ideas. Nokia focus on opportunities to advertise and create communities to discuss problems rather than releasing hassle-free product. Why cant Nokia sort out its already released handsets first and then go for any new ones. Afterall when they release new handset they make an impression that previous one was just **bleep** and you should pay a little more to get this one. I think this will become a term for Nokia - Next only Known investing Asinine (The only known next foolish thing to spend your money on) The rest of them you might know after spending but this one for sure.

N96 firmware update - product code starting 057

I've recently bought an unbranded, sim-free n96. The product code is 0573063. I've tried for weeks to try and update the firmware in the hope that this will solve some of the speed issues I am experiencing. I understand that network branded phones need to wait for the network to approve the firmware but why can't I update my phone? I've tried both NSU and FOTA and neither work.
Can anyone please help?
