N96 - Firmware V20 Bugs....

Hi,
I upgraded to the new version 20 firmware the other day... A few things which are not better than v12 (or is it just me)?? 1) you cannot see more than 2 entries on Active standy for the calendar. 2) when you turn the battery tones on silent - you still get an alert when charging or the battery is full 3) when connected to a bluetooth handsfree car kit - in v12 you could set a profile with no warning tones/ i.e. no low battery alert. on v20 I have done then same but it does not work - prompting my car kit to turn off the radio every few minutes to connect to the phone! I have flashed it 3 times now, so it does not look like the handset?
Any ideas - or anybody having the same... might as well get a roll back to v12 if that would ever be possible without frying the handset....
 Cheers

Hello, I just updated my wife’s N96, the update went smooth and according to the instructions on the Nokia web pages. Then I did do a backup restore (I did a fresh backup to the Nokia memory card), and during the restore a error message flashed with something like " Error in standby theme", the phone resets the language settings to Finnish after the update so the translation is not necessary correct.
Then after the restore and reboot the whole main view of the N96 is not responsive to any other thing than going through the menu icons. Normal calendar markings, wlan, etc. rows are also blank, they appear there but they doesn’t show anything.
Tried to do a *#7370# reset but even without doing the restore function the end result is the same."Traditional" and "vertical" standby themes work ok.br. M

  • N95 firmware v20 bugs??

I just found 1 probs with this new firmware (v20),
-camera did not shut down and exit automatically when the camera shutter is closed.
Did anyone has experiences like me?

    Hi,
I'm not sure I can call this a bug, but I came across this once as well. Yesterday I opened the camera cover and took some photos, I wanted to take some more so I left the cover open for a while until the camera went into standby. I'm not entirely sure if I re-activated the camera before closing the cover, but when I did, the camera application did not close.
Actually this was a welcome surprise for me as I wanted the cam app ready for some instant snaps... Though I can't seem to get the cam app not to close now I probably stumbled upon a bug that requires some rare or special conditions in order to surface...

Although any user data would be erased could only suggest that you try resetting device by keying in *#7370# followed by 12345 (default Nokia lock code unless altered by user) and try option to re-install existing device software within Nokia Suite > Tools > Software updates upon PC.

  • N96 new v20 firmware available in N96-3 NAM model?

Hi i heard that the new v20 N96 firmware was great and made many improvement to the buggy N96, i am just wondering if it is or would come out on the N96-3 NAM US model soon? my N96 is sim-free and is currently in firmware v.12, product code is 0570666. I tried on FOTA and it saids no updates available, i also tried on NSU and it told me the same thing. I really want the new N96 firmware, any help? Thank You in Advance =)

glennl, thanks for answering, umm.. can you provide more detail on how you got your v20 firmware installed on your N96-3? like where you got it installed? Nokia Software Updater (NSU)? Firmware Over-The-Air (FOTA)? and is your product code the same as mine (0570666)? Since your N96 is the NAM version i suspect you got your N96-3 in the States? Thank you once again in advance

mo_shef wrote:Even if NSU / FOTA Nokia still can release BETA firmware without even telling the customers. How on earth would you go from a good stable v11 firmware to a complete utter v20 firmware which aint even stable?
There are notes (official notes) that come with the v20 firmware package where it clearly states Maitenance Release which has to be explained to the customer if this is applied to their handset. I could put it on here but dont wanna break rules.
I was just telling not to update as its BETA firmware and would cause problems.
You are still misleading. The term "maintenance release" means that the update is purely aimed at fixing bugs and not adding new features, it does not mean that it is "Beta software". The definition of beta software is software that is released to volunteers for testing, beta is not software that is offered for general release to all users.
And if you are seeing, presumably through your work, "official notes" about Nokia products, then your are in breach of rules by discussin them. In my line of work, I often see information from device manufacturers that is regarded confidential, but you'll never find me repeating any of this information here or on any other forum because I'd be jeopardising my employer's relationship with the manufacturers and in doing so put my own job at risk - and I for one am not foolish enough to do that.
You should watch your step - several months ago, one of the long-term users of this forum 'disappeared' from the boards amidst rumours that he had been fired from his job with a European mobile network because he had been providing confidential information to an independent web site.
Why did the v20 firmware have new feature ? eg Fixed Focus, Face Dectection, OVI Standby etc As you can see its new features. Maintenance release is classed as Beta but they dont use that phrase BETA. Yes it official but still it says clearly that you have to tell customers that is maitenance release. Nokia directly wont tell you but on the notes it does.
Im ok I dont work for Nokia but I have paid Nokia for acess to services such as Notes, Firmware, Service Logs and many others. As long as Nokia got there money there ok with that.If i did work for Nokia i wouldnt say anything i'd rather keep my job lol.

  • N96 - Firmware 30.0.33 Changelog? Anyone?

Where can I find the N96 firmware 30.0.33 changelog?

changelogs contain the changes made from previous firmware versions to the new firmware version updates. however, these are considered confidential information by Nokia and are not released into the public domain. your best bet is to read up on users subjective experiences by Googling for the firmware changes/improvements/bug fixes etc.
please throw some kudos our way, it would mean a lot to us
If you found this or someone's comments helpful or like what that person has to say, please give some Kudos to their post!

  • Where to find release notes for firmware v20 of 58...

Anybody know where i could find the release notes for firmware v20? I wish to know what are fixed. Thanks!

Changelogs are considered confidential information by Nokia. You'll not see an official document reporting the changes made. What you might see is leaked documents on some websites, and you have to take those with a pinch of salt.

  • Nokia N93 (firmware V20) issues

    Hello,
I bought (on February 1st) a Nokia N93 that I quickly upgraded to firmware V20.
Even with that firmware, I still have some very annoying issues :
    (1) I expected to personnalize my ring tones on the calling number basis, like on my previous Nokia telephone. Although I think that I found how to do this, it doesn't seem to work : the calling number is correctly received, but the telephone doesn't seem to make the link with the corresponding contact list entry.
    (2) There seems to be two different web browsers on this telephone, one for the Internet, and another for the WAP.
The WAP browser seems to have a lot of trouble in correctly displaying pictures in WAP pages : about one picture out of two is shown as a (about) 2x2 pixels tiny "picture". In order to correct it, I have to move my N93 screen to the landscape position, and next to move it back to its previous place.
    (3) When watching a video using the N93's Real Player, the video is not displayed full screen at the beginning. In order to do this, I have to STOP the video, then open the "Option" menu, and select the "Read in full screen" command. But when I watch it full screen, if I press any key, the display reverts to tiny size without stopping, and I have to restart the whole process for going back to full screen.
I didn't find any command for displaying full screen without stopping the video. Did I miss something ?
On such a tiny screen, I couldn't imagine anybody willing to watch a video otherwise than full screen ... Why isn't this the default, or at least being configurable for becoming it ?
    Best regards,
    Gingko

Yes, about "contacts", I already did that.
I can select the appropriate ring tone for each contact, that way.
But the problems is that, when this contact later makes a phone call to me, and although I correctly receive his phone number from my operator, and although his name and his phone number have correctly (hopefully) been entered in my contact list, and although I selected a ring tone for him (either directly or via contact groups), the N93 doesn't seem to be able to find the corresponding number at the time of the call, and the display shows only the phone number with the default ring tone, like if I never created this contact in the list.
    Thank you for your help.

  • Mfe not working proper on N96 firmware v30

    Dear Sir,
i have changed my phone from nokia n95 to nokia n96,
    firmware version 30.x.
Mfe doesn't work with charm here.
I have attached log file for your further help.
I have to uninstall it and reinstall it every.
Mail For Exchange Error -15032 is one of the errors.
Hope to hear very positive from you.

I think the only thing you can try now is a hard reset. Unfortunately it means that all the data in your phone's internal memory (C: drive) is lost, so unless you've done a backup recently...
With the phone switched off, press simultaneously the 3, * and green 'call' buttons. Keep them pressed in and switch the phone on. Do not release them until you see signs of life such as the Nokia logo or the region selection screen.
It may take somewhat flexible fingers and more than one attempt to do this.
If it doesn't solve the problem then your only course of action is to take your phone in to your local Nokia Care Point.

  • N96 (firmware 30.33 ,lastest version) BT connectio...

Hi, I got one problem with my N96(firmware 30.33 ,lastest version) with NOKIA headset BH-904. In the first week, there was NO any problem in BT connection. After that, my N96 would cut off BT connection with BH-904 every time about 3 seconds right after recognize & connect. My N96 is able to connect other BT headset. My BH-904 is also able to connect other cell phone. It seems to be a N96 BT compatibility problem !!!!! Can any NOKIA guys fix it ???

    Dear friends,
I'm not a real technology expert - but guess what. I bought BH-904 and used it succesfully about 1.5 weeks with E71. No problems at all. But then BH-904 just disconnected. And then never were able to connect more than 30 seconds with E71. Just like that.
Nothing helps: Resetting or charging the BH-904, deleting all BT pairs in E71, factory reset of the E71, uploading the latest firmware on E71, resetting and building all the settings from scratch. Always the same result - BH-904 connects to the E71 and disconnects in 2...30 seconds. Always the same.
If connecting to a new(another phone, seems to stay connected longer time - but no experience whethet the same happens in one week.
E71 works fine with BT with a computer. Worked one year with BH-900.
I had no other option than return the BH-904 for repair.
    Rgrds, Henrik

  • N96 firmware lost functionalities

    Hello,
I upgraded my N96 to 12.0.43 a couple of months back and since then all shortcuts have been lost (# for silent profile, 0 for web browser, etc...). Has anyone else experienced this? Anyone might know of another firmware in the pipeline?

  • My review: N95 Firmware v20, one day old!

Well - I have flashed the firmware and been using my "new" (for it certainly seems like a new phone) N95 all day now. It has only crashed once (curiously enough clicking on the top right link on the http://mosh.nokia.com page, a small green right-facing arrow). I certainly can't claim that level of stability with my desktop PC... so my one crash is par for the course, and very impressive indeed!
As many people have mentioned, there is a lot more free RAM now. Exactly how much is really immaterial as it is the enhanced capability of the phone which has resulted from this boost that matters. As a pretty exhaustive test I did the following:
Whilst on speaker phone to my business partner he sent me an email to my Hotmail account.
I opened up the messaging app and went to my Windows Live mail box.
I opened the email and downloaded an 85k Word document attachment on it.
The QuickOffice viewer opened the Word file.
Within the Word file was a web link - I needed to look at this and so copied it to the clipboard.
Returning to the menu I opened the browser and navigated to the link from the clipboard. The page was laden with graphics and a tonne of text. I zoomed to 50% and scanned through to read the information I needed.
Leaving the browser open, and just for the hell of it, I went to the menu and launched Widsets which duly connected to my WLAN and loaded up my widgets. I scrolled to the Darla Mack Mobile blog widget and opened it up, selecting the first story within (about the v20 firmware, of course!). This news post had a 70% of screen sized image on the page too.
Throughout all of this I changed screen orientation a number of times using both the slider and the option in the browser's menu. I also had a call blacklist application, as well as the excellent MobiGenie voicemail application running in the background at all times.
Before I closed everything down, I loaded Y-Task's memory module to see how much RAM was free - 6.7M of free RAM!!! Now that's what I'm talking about!!!!
I'd just like to say to anyone anywhere who has ever harboured or proffered the opinion that "it's a phone, it's not meant to do all that" or some variant thereof - what absolute rubbish! This new firmware has made the phone multi-taskable to such an extent that at last, the N95's slogan "it's what computers have become" can at last ring true!!
As for battery usage improvements, the fullness of time will reveal whether it really makes an impact. In the mean time, today, I have tested it as follows:
I have performed a firmware upgrade(!)
I took three backups on PC Suite via content copier
Used USB Mass transfer to copy 370MB of data from my memory card, via the phone
Installed 30 applications to the phone
Restored data to the phone (and subsequently reformatted the phone!) 3 times
Played with the web browser for 50+ mins on WiFi.
Chatted on MSN Messenger for around 30 minutes
Took 8 photos at 5MP each, most with flash
Played around in general with the phone for about 3 hours, on and off
Performed the aforementioned uber-test on the phone
Spoken in total for (according to my log) 2h09m
    Sent 9 text messages
Watched one streaming video from my gallery, lasting 6 mins
My battery has JUST, after all of that, hit the low battery warning. I think that you'll agree that's an impressive performance for the N95. This is all with the phone set to lowest brightness, non 3G mode etc. to conserve maximum power of course, so that extra jolt of power that the N95 8Gb batteries have would still not go amiss... I suspect that I'd have been able to do a lot less if I was using high speed mobile networks for the data tasks I listed above.
The camera is also very much improved, about 3-4 times faster overall. It seems to produce better quality images with finer resolution of individual pixels. I think (?) they have increased focal length on macro shots from 10-40cm to 60cm (I could be wrong there). The update massively reduced shot-to-shot time and the simple addition of the processing image message really improves the process no end, curiously enough! Also, there is funny gray line grid mode (er, what's this acutally for??).
There are numerous tweaks here and there, like new sub-folders in the menus (very handy indeed) and new versions of some apps.
There are some rather glaring omissions however:
Nothing has been done with the accelerometer functions, no auto-rotate or tilt-navigation (a la RotateMe / Nokmote).
Videos and photos are still grouped together in the gallery and the 'albums' feature feels a bit like an afterthought (at the very least I would expect folders or album icon or something to show up in the photo/video stream).
There is still no control over compression of JPEG images from the camera (although this will probably be a minor issue to many).
The slider menu (which Darla Mack quite rightly commented on) from the N81 which allows you to set up how the slider action causes your phone to behave - where is it? This is such an obvious requirement for the N95 and has been the frequent cause of complaints on many forums since the N95's launch
There are a number of applications / software features, for example the multimedia menu, which are already present on other phones which have not been included here. Indeed I believe that some of the core apps from the N95 8GB are more advanced still... given the mess Nokia made of the N95-1 it would seem only courteous to have provided a full set of the latest core apps and menus
There are many other niggles, but I'm going to leave those ones down to personal tastes. That and the fact that I'm a software designer myself, so I'm always likely to think I can see a better way to do it!
To sum up, this firmware update was very much needed and overdue. Nokia's handling of this issue and of it's customers has been appalling. Making people wait for 5 months without word, having superceded a very flawed and expensive phone was not, under any stretch of the imagination, a good way to go about things.
Now that it v20 is here, the N95 flies! It is suddenly reborn and I'm so glad I own it now. It works beautifully and is so stable... it really is a pleasure to use now. I'm glad of my memory card slot and camera lens cover - I wouldn't trade this up for an N95 8gb or anything else I've seen on the market now! (yes that includes you iPhone!! ;P )
My final thought on all of this? Thank Jebus they fixed the infernal keypress bug!!! XD

To be fair, this update addresses nearly all of the concerns that we've had. It specifically addresses the top 2 concerns - memory handling and the poor performance of the camera application, slow load times and processing times.
There are a bunch of other updates as well which are just icing on the cake.
I think through 3rd party programs you can achieve most of what you are trying to do. I'm sure the n95 will recieve yet another update. The attention they have put into updating the phone to support the music store and ngage means that it will recieve additional bug fixes, especially once they begin to get a revenue stream from these new services being launched in december.
I think the n95 if anything has been shown to be a winning device. I believe it will continue to have Nokia's support due to the fact that it is one of the most capable devices in the lineup. I believe the 5 month development time since the last update is due to how comprehensive the overhaul of the firmware has been. Now that version 20 is out, we will see smaller incremental updates. The tough part (overhauling the memory system and operating system, better battery management etc) is over.
I'm really enjoying my device now.

  • N96 Firmware v12

Has anyone updated to this firmware yet in the UK and if so has it finally sorted the WiFi bug ppl have been having with the Sky/Netgear broadband router x

The Sky/Netgear bug is a bug in the router's firmware rather than in the phone.
This said, I have noticed a marked improvement in WLAN connectivity on my N96 (connecting to a generic Netgear wireless access point) since I updated to V12.
There are other improvements that mean it's worth updating anyway even if it doesn't solve your Sky broadband problem.

  • Nokia N96 Firmware Update issues!!!!

    Hello,
On the website, it's showing an update named  PR1.1 (or  11.018 / 11.101) however, after I updated my phone (via PC Suite) it's now showing: Software Version: 30.033.098.1.
More than this, now I have an issue. When I try to launch LIVE TV, it doesn't open no matter what. It's trying to open and then closes itself. Before, with the older firmware 20.xxxxx it at least allowed me to search for TV or something but now it's not working at all.
Can someone please explain why does the new firmware update is showing 30.033.098.1 and not the PR1.1 or 11.011/.101 and why I'm unable to go through the LIVE TV now?
    Many thanks for your advices/suggestions.
    Best Regards,
    Mr A

You could try talking to him about his problem rather than just telling him to reset his phone, and if you are just going to cnp the same response in every thread you reply to then at least format it so it is readable
In this casre I agree a Hard reset is probably called for as his issue is not standard for an n96 running v30
v20 & 30 are typicaly very stable  with very little difference to the user between them, the one change the user will notice is that the mobile tv ap appears to have been messed with, tho being as most users can't recieve anyway Its not something that is looked at often
If a hard reset doesn't fix your problem then come back and tell us
    and remeber BACK UP FIRST
