N96 keeps rebooting on startup
I was having my N96 working quite satisfactory until I expected to receive a vcard.
The device rebooted and after finishing the startup process it reboots again.
It keeps rebooting for the last hour.
For the short time it is up, it seems works properly - I even get reminders working.
It also reports I have new messages...
However, it is very slow in response.
Sometimes it even detects the PC Suite. But it is the last thing before white screen appears,
I've tried to connect the cable to backup the info, but there is not enough time to do so.
I tought that a possibility would be to upgrade the firmware, but invane too.
Is there any way to (at least) backup the data from the device?
Regards
You have not provided any details about when the reboot happens, so how can anyone tell where to fix?
What is on the screen? GRUB? "Uncompressing kernel"? "Linux Version.."? "INIT:..."? "login:"? Something else?
Do the disks spin? do they seek? make any noise at all?
Does the screen stay black? flash? scroll madly?
A hint, please.

Mountain lion doesn't go to startup keeps rebooting, works in safe boot though.
Just upgraded from the previous oxs verison for mac, after the upgrade it keeps rebooting not allowing me to go to startup screen where the usernames are, howevere the upgrade works when I put my Mac in safe boot. Any recommendations?
Figure out what third-party system extension is causing problems.
Linc Davis posts some directions on how to determine what you have loaded, but I'm not sure what you would get in safe mode. Here's on of his posts: Re: iMac crashes 5 x a day and beachball, what to do? -
Safari keeps crashing on startup
Okay.. I have kind of a problem with Safari: It keeps crashing on startup.
I had Safari 4 Beta installed which worked perfect until about a month ago, it started crashing more often until a few hours ago. It started crashing on startup. So I went back to Safari 3. Which keeps crashing also.
I tried some things, rebooting, remove settings files, which both were unsuccessful.
Anyone can help me on this one? I hate Firefox, it's slow as sh*t and Opera doesn't display sites properly... I just love Safari for web browsing
Oh yeah, maybe nice to mention, Safari 4 work PERFECT on a brand new iMac, but not on this Macbook (late 2007, Leopard)...Hi
Welcome to Apple Discussions
Sometimes a crash at startup is a result of either a corrupt History or Preference file.
Try this: Go to your Finder: your User Account>Preferences folder. There, move the com.apple.safari.plist file to the desktop, then restart Safari. This creates a new preference file. If Safari proves stable, you'll need to reset any custom preferences. If Safari crashes, move the preference file on the desktop back to its original location, replacing the newly created file.
Then, same library>Safari folder. Move the History.plist file to the desktop, then restart Safari.
If it crashes, post the crash report (click "report" on the quit panel, then copy/paste the entire report to your reply here. -

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you boot, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test. -
Mac keeps rebooting when it reaches the grey window with the apple
Hello,
My Mac G5 keeps rebooting, it cannot reach the desktop.
Yesturday, I changed the read write options on the macintosh hd (I put everyone on read write so others on the network could get access to all the files, I pressed on the wheel on the botton and "replicated" to all files in the hd).
When I restarted the system, it hasn't booted to the desktop since.
Is this what caused the problem???
How can I fix this?
I tried the utility from the install dvd to repair the rights, but it does not work, if I scan again, I get a very long list containing mainly files from the library folder.
ThanksMichael.Pasteris wrote:

doing this completely killed your system. you now have no choice but to do an archive and install.
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1710?viewlocale=en_US
you should NEVER use "apply to enclosed items" button on ANY system created folders or on the startup drive. that includes btw such things as your Desktop folder, your home folder etc.
and you shouldn't even try having your whole drive read+write by everybody. that's very bad from security point of view and other users have no business having read+write access to your entire system. make a folder shared and give them read+write access to that.

I used the restore disk to restore my laptop to original settings and now it keeps rebooting over and over and over again. I know it needs to in order to install software but it has done in over and over again for 12 hours straight. I ran the hard disk self test in bios but it came back clean and okay. Is there any other diagnostic tool i can use to boot to to check the motherboards and other devices to see whats wrong?
In what Position is the book in? Tablet or Laptop?
When will it reboot? After Posting from the Bios "HPLOGO screen" or once it gets into windows desktop?
Have you tried getting into safemode? Press F8 right after Bios Screen. To Repair Drivers once in safemode. "Wrong - Video Drivers can cause Reboots"
Once in safe mode, Start, control panel, System, Advanced, Startup and Recovery, Uncheck Automatically Restart in system Failure area. This should fix your Reboot in Normal Mode, but it will not fix the error causing it to reboot.

My desktop keeps rebooting ever since I upgraded to Mavericks.
Current setup, Mac Mini hooked up to home theater (Panasonic SC-HTB20) that is then hooked up to my Panasonic Plasma TV.
I usually leave my Mac Mini on running and at least once a day when I turn on the TV I can see that my desktop was rebooted. Firefox and Chrome will say that it wasn't shut down properly and if I want to restore my previous session. Also some times when I switched the input to watch TV and switch back, all my windows will be scattered out of place. For example Chrome will be in the top left hand corner to the point that it's almost minimized and I wouldn't be able to move it as well. Only thing I can do is close out these applications and relaunch them. It doesn't appear that the OS actually crashed, but more like the desktop/finder itself crashed. Cause once in a while I will switch back or turn on the TV and the screen will stay black for a few minutes then I'll see the cursor in the top right hand corner. After that I will start to see the desktop and my application start loading. It doesn't go through the regular process of rebooting where you see the Apple logo so I don't think the OS actually crashed but I could be wrong.
For some reason it seems like Maverick doesn't like the home theater system. An almost guarantee way to reproduce the issue is to wait for the home theater to turn off after it's been inactive for a while. If I turn it on the home theater to have the audio coming from it I will see the desktop goes black immediately then the whole desktop reboot process I mentioned above will kick in.
Never had any of these issues on 10.7 before I upgraded to Maverick.
Anybody have any suggestion? I really don't want to format and downgrade back to 10.7.
ThanksSounds like a kernel panic.
If you post the report we could have a go at deciphering it.
It would be in /Library/Logs/Diagnostic Reports. -

Not all users are displayed for log on after a reboot or startup...
Problem summary: Not all users are displayed for log on after a reboot or startup...
This problem only occurs after a fresh start-up or restart. The only users displayed are the initial (admin user) and "Guest". Two other (non-admin) users are not shown for log on.
To work around this problem and get them to log on we have to log on as the admin user, then we can see the other users in the Fast User Switching menu (top right-hand corner of the screen), listed under the current logged on user. After selecting the non-admin user we can log in and use the laptop as normal.
If we lock the screen, use fast user switching or log out all users; all users are available for log in, until a reboot is done; at which point the non-admin users disappear again and we have to log in as the admin user and use fast user switching again.
The laptops are both brand new MacBook Airs. The initial configuration of Mac OS X Yosemite was done using the Apple ID of the purchaser (parent) and then the OS was patched, immediately, through the App store (no further updates available as of the date of this posting). After this Family Sharing was activated and new users set up for the two children who will be using these laptops.
Has anybody else experienced this problem with Yosemite?
Cheers,
David.David,
Users not enabled for FileVault unlock are only able to log into the computer after an unlock-enabled user has started or unlocked the drive. Once unlocked, the drive remains unlocked and available to all users, until the computer is restarted.
FileVault has to be On.
To Enable the users to be able to unlock FileVault Go to:
System Preferences > Security & Privacy > FileVault ( Tab ) > Click the Lock in the bottom left > Put in your administrator password > Should see an option to Enable Users > Enable User.
Hope that helps,

My Mac Pro 2.1 Keeps rebooting ramdomly. It seems to be more common when editing video.
Any ideas anybody?
Thanks in advance.Sorry for the slow reply.
My Mac Pro 2.1 screens go black and instantly reboots, sometimes it keeps rebooting until i hold the power button. I have reset pram, smc, renewed permissions and checked hard discs.
I am booting from a drive with lion 10.7.3. It also happens when I am booted from another drive running Snow Leopard.
I have also removed 4 gig of the 8 gig of ram and tried different configs of ram.
I have also disconnected everything except the keyboard, mouse and 2 monitors.
It is driving me bonkers because I cannot trust the mac Pro and I often lose work because it suddenly reboots.
Any suggestions anyone. -
Laserjet pro MFP M176n keeps rebooting
Hi,
I have a Color laserjet Pro MFP M176n printer. It ha snot been used for sometime.2 weeks ago when I printed something it had constant paper jam. I open the front door to remove the jam problem was not solved, I removed the ink cartridge to see if there was any piece of paper .Switch the apparatus off and when i switch it on again it just wnt switch on and now it just keep rebooting and wont display anything.
I would liek to know how to solve this problem or if the printer has to be thrown out.
RegardsHi @widadr,
I see that you are experiencing issues with the printer constantly rebooting. I will certainly do my best to help you.
Temporarily disconnect any cables from the printer, except the power cord, just to make sure there isn't any interference for the next few steps.
I would do a hard reset to see if that will resolve the issue.
Leave the printer on and unplug the power cable from the printer and wall outlet for 60 seconds.
Then reconnect the power cable to the printer and wall outlet rather than a surge protector.
This ensures the printer is receiving full power and may help this situation.
Perform a power drain by disconnecting the power cord from the back of the printer and keeping the power button pressed for 30 seconds and in case of a power switch keep the switch in ON position for 30 seconds before reconnecting the power chord.
Try and update the printer's firmware by a USB connection if the issue persists. Software and Drivers.
I will send you another step to try in a private message.
In the forum beside your handle name just click on the envelope to view it.
How is the printer connected? (USB/Ethernet)

Hi All
I have my newly Lenovo x240 installed with Windows 7. Sometime, it can boot up, but sometimes it keep rebooting during the windows logo appear.
When it goes wrong, it will have the following screen.
But, if I am lucky, after several "auto-reboot", I can get into the Windows 7. But sometimes, it shows the similar screen above (without windows logo but with what my current desktop), and it then auto reboots.
This scenario is so random, I don't know how to fix it. At this stage, I don't want to use system restore, as some software is installed by my client which is not located near my office, while the reboot issue happens before those installation

Could you please help?
BR
JackyHi JackyCheung,
I would strongly you to ensure you have the latest drivers and also Windows Updates installed before proceeding with anything else. Have you ran the diagnostics to see if anything hardware related maybe causing the issue?
In this scenario I highly doubt System Restore would help, was it working OK when you got it? what has changed since it was working without the issue?
Regards
Roshan -
IPhoto 08 keeps crashing on startup
I've just installed iLife 08, and since I updated iPhoto to 7.0.2, it keeps crashing on startup. I have gone to other accounts on the computer (non administrator), and it seems to launch OK. I even tried reinstalling iLife from the disk, but still crashes, now even before I updated to 7.0.2. I have repaired disk permissions. The other components of iLife (iWeb, etc) seem to work fine. I obviously have corrupt file(s) in my account somewhere. Any ideas what I could do to remedy the problem? I have an iMac G5 2GHz 512 MB RAM.
Here is the crash report:

First download and run BatChmod on the iPhoto Library folder with the settings shown here, putting your administrator login name, long or short, in the owner and group sections. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field.
Next, rebuild the library as follows: launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select the first three options. It may not succeed since the library is crashing but it may.
If that doesn't help, try rebuilding with iPhoto Library Manager. It creates a new library and copied what it needs to build it. It may succeed where iPhoto did not. Here's how:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 -Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 -Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: It may take some time to create the new library if you have a lot of photos. Report back on how long it took and how many photos you have in the library so we can give other users an idea of how long it may take.
Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
