N96 Nokia maps problem

I've had my N96 since October, and have previously used nokia maps without any problems. Recently it won't work and asks me to download the latest version, which I've done & installed, but I can't find the installation on my phone, and when I try to load the maps app from the old icon it continues to prompt me to download the latest version.
I tried to remove the old version, but it will not completely remove, and brings up error messages.
What am I doing wrong? How do I install the latest version of maps?

Hi chris_m182
Apart from need to backup essential data, you may need to carry out a reset by inputting *#7370# on standby screen followed by 12345 (default Nokia lock code) unless altered by yourself. As your N96 has UDP = User data preservation, you could possibly need to re-format C:\DRIVE by carrying out the "Three finger reset" as detailed in Paragraph 45 of FAQ to Nokia Software Updater here:http://europe.nokia.com/A4577229#faq45 if former method doesn't resolve issue.

  • Problems With N96 Nokia Maps

    Hey!
Just bought a Nokia N96, but i have som major problems with it, especially regarding the GPS function.
When i try to start Nokia Maps it loads up to 30%, and then stops. I`ll get this message: Can not open this program. Please install the lastest version on nokia.com/maps.
But i have tried that, it still doesnt work!
    What can i do?
(it works perfect when i connect the usb cabøe into it and suggests "mass storrage")

There are actually 2 versions of Nokia Maps and each has its own map data. You have to match data to Nokia Maps version. The best way to do this is to delete the Cities folder, running Maps at least once and then reinstalling the map data.

  • N96 Nokia Maps Loader Issue

    Hi All,
I just updated my phone firmware.
I make it a habit to format the mass memory and the phone memory.
The problem now is after I have restored all my files and recreated the settings, I cannot make the Maps to load.
I encounter this error message "Error while loading catalog to drive E: at Nokia N96"
The only option is to click the check mark, after I click it nothing happens.
Have anybody experienced this or anybody knows a solution?
I have already checked the cities folder and it is recreated already. But still same issue.
Is this related to the new firmware?
    Solved!

I have managed to solve it.
When you format the phone memory the license manager which is used by Nokia Maps gets deleted.
In order to get it back you have to download the Nokia Map for your country and install it again to the phone.
After the installation. Delete the cities folder if there is one and then run the Nokia Map.
You can now use the Map loader and install the language you want.
That means that the maps loader is useless if you have deleted the license manager.

  • N96 Nokia Maps "Voice" & Bluetooth car radio.

Hi, I have a problem with Nokia Maps voice and Bluetooth car radio. Although the N96 voice call works well through the car radio (tevion md 814508, Bluetooth version 1.2) the nokia maps "voice' does not come through. Also I would like to stream my phones MP3 music as well.
    Any ideas?

    Hi confiture
    A bit of an update.
Like johndub in his post I've found that if I switch the car stereo to aux I do hear a voice but really crackly and distorted. You can't really tell what 'he' is saying. Play some music with Car Menu/Music Player and it's clear. Switch the stereo to radio (or off) and the voice is gone.
This obviously is quite a bug. Nokia not being exactly 'joined up' when it comes to their hardware and software releases again possibly?
"If you start car menu and do not activate the music player, instead move straight to navigation, selecting your route etc then it will mute the radio and send the guidance down the mono channel like a phone call"
Unfortunately I can assure you this doesn't happen.
I have noticed there is a software update for the CK-300 but I don't have the correct cable for the job. Any idea where I could get this done? I found a link for Nokia installers on here a while ago but I'll be damned if I can find it now

  • Nokia Maps & problem with '#' button

It looks like my '#' button changed its working in the Nokia Maps application. The pressing causes unpress and vice versa. So, when I release the button, it keeps zooming out until I press it again. Strange, because it works incorrectly only in this application.
Maybe someone clever could give me a hint to solve my problem?
I can observe it in the newest version of Nokia Maps and hard reset doesn't solve my problem.
    Please for some clues.

Is it just a problem in the maps application? It sounds rather odd... the button may be sticking, so I'd recommend getting it to your nearest Nokia Service Centre as soon as possible

  • N97 nokia maps problem

    hi everyone..
i desperately need some help here..
I've recently had my n97 software reflashed by a service centre as it kept crashing and was running really slowly. it's got the latest firmware on it but for some reason i can't download the new nokia maps v3. I'm still stuck with the **bleep** v1!
Called Nokia.. they promised a call back within 48 hours.. that was a week ago! Can anybody here help?
    Thanks in advance.

If you can't update your software using Nokia Software Updater, then use OTA SW Updates on phone then the N97 mini version , which you can download to pc then drag and drop to phone will work fine, honestly, I've used it before and all the people I've suggested it to in the past have had no problems

    hi there
i had problems with the gps on my n95 when i first got it heres some things to remember
the gps is under the keypad please make sure its allways open when using it for best signal
its hard to get a lock on in some indoor areas (well alot or indoor areas)
what firmware do you have?? try installing the latest one
nokia maps didnt work very well with the internal gps i left my phone outside in my car for 15 mins with no lock on to signal i was very dissapointed but i tryed garmin mobile xt and it picked up signal very very quickly id say within 45 seconds max probably much less ive heard nokia maps v1.2 is out now and apparently it works alot better then the 1st version so it might be worth updating the maps software here http://europe.nokia.com/A4509291
another thing to do is to make sure assisted gps is on (agps)to do this go into main menu -- tools -- connectivity--gps data--options--posistion settings--then make sure they are all ticked apart from bluetooth gps--
    hope that helps mate
    so to sumarise
    update nokia maps here http://europe.nokia.com/A4509291
or try garmin mobile xt or route 66 both work with the internal gps
then make sure agps is switched on via the settings i mentioned above
then go outside and open phone and load software ie nokia maps (updated version) see if this works any better mate

    Hi Nick,
Not certain what is causing the problem, but I do know that your phone needs to download maps, so you should connect using GPRS or Wifi to download the maps and then you should have maps for your locality, but you will need to connect again if you move outside of the locality. The best advise I would say is to get an internet add on for your phone so you won't be charged extra.
you may be able to download maps and load them on also. You may also need to turn off the network assisted GPS so you are only using the built in GPS not the internet to find where you are.

  • Nokia N82 nokia maps problem

I've bought my new Nokia N82 about 2 days ago, and have already got a problem which bothers me a lot.
Basically whenever I open nokia maps, it freezes the whole phone.
I can't even turn the phone off, so have to take the battery out to restart the phone again.
The phone has got the latest firmware on it so not really quite sure what to do.
Is it possible to reinstall nokia maps. If so, could someone let me know how.
    If not, any other solutions.
If this has been answered anywhere else in the forum please let me know where it is
    Cheers

  • N96 Nokia Maps UK

    Hi,
Will be going to London soon and would like to use the Nokia Maps on my N96.  Have been trying to get this thing to work locally but nothing!!!
Now, was reading some threads read something about a license!!  As I was going through the settings of the Nokia Maps came across those licenses, but I have to buy them!!  Personally I will buy the 30day one as it is the most convenient for me at the moment.
The thing is that with the License, what will I be able to do?  I would like to have the 'Walk' navigation option too!!
Also, was thinking of buying a sim-card from one of UKs mobile service providers as the charges (if any) would be less expensive than using my local one as they would charge you way too much for just simple roaming per 1MB!!
Any suggestions and ideas of which company should I go with and what the licenses really do?

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

If you purchase the walk licence then you only get walking directions. Walking directions do not come with voice direction and tend to go a little funny should you try to use it when you are driving. You will get  "too fast" error and you may be directed along foot paths. Drive licences do include the walking function as well.
Be careful before you purchase the licence as licences are linked to the SIM card when first bought. If you purchase with the old SIM and then switch SIM's then it will stop working until you contact Nokia Care to switch it to the new SIM. If you intend using a local SIM in London then I suggest purchasing the licence after you get that SIM.

  • N73 - Nokia Maps problem downloading maps - Vodafo...

I h´ave the N73 (black edition) and i "use vodafone live!" for internet acess
please someone help me to make work the aplication "nokia map", using "vodafone life! - from portugal vodafone"
    I dont have GPS
    I live in portugal
    I use vodafone
I use for internet "vodafone life!"

--> on the pc, select the map and load it into your phone or memory card
and i think, in order for you to navigate using external gps receiver, after 3 days, you need to buy a license for it.. or it will stop working
you can use bluetooth GPS receiver (external).
However you can use Tomtom and in simulate mode.

  • Nokia map problems

    Hi guys ,
i hav downloaded the maps into my N73 . But everytime i start nokia map, dere is no map . onli green background. can access the options ,but then i scroll left rite up down oso cant find a single map.
i hav download sg , malaysia map into it. Must it work wif a bluetooth GPS or can it work alone .
I dun nid the gps still i noe the place i am in .
    Anyone encounter this prob?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

This is what you have to do. Since you have downloaded maps for Malaysia and sg, you have to tell maps to position you at a location that is covered by the map. At the moment the phone could think you are in Finland, hence no map.
So what you do is run Maps, goto Options>Find Place>Address. Now type an adress in singapore for instance then goto options>search. Select and you should see the location on the sg map.

    @nobs
Presumably you have tried both using Maploader upon N9 and Nokia Suite? When new mapping was released 17/12/2012 just followed advice to update existing ones, although do remember it timing out and have to re-start downloading process several times.
As map folder structure upon N9 remains the same as Symbian it would be possible to manually install decompressed .zip for particular region if all else fails. Whilst not aware of any problems with latest 00.02.47.103 map data upon N9, be aware that this update has caused issues for Symbian devices by crippling "Offline" navigation.
