N96 Problem (Bookmarks)

Not sure as to why but since updating my firmware to version 11 S60V3.2 on my N96 when I go in to the web browser and go to bookmarks and click the centre button (or options and open) the bookmarks do not load they just do not do anything even though they have in the past. Have had a look on the forums and it looks like its just me having this problem but if anyone can help me it would be much appreciated.

The application could have been corrupted during the update. You could
1. Reset the phone
2. Install Opera Mini which is a better browser anyway (Recommended). Opera Mini can be downloaded from www.operamini.com

N96 search bookmarks problem

I have an N96 and when I do a search it finds a webpage that I navigated ages ago to under "bookmarks". This page however is NOT stored in my bookmarks! It is actually listed twice in the search results which is also strange. How do I get rid of it? I have tried a firmware update but no joy....its not the end of the world but its quite annoying!! How do I access the bookmark folders using Nokia PC suite so i can delete this file/page?

Hard format procedure is here. For that, backup your mobile's contacts, messages, notes, calender and bookmarks via Nokia PC Suite backup utility. Don't backup anything else like settings or user files etc. Now backup your images, videos and music files using Windows Explorer. Now format your memory card and switch off your mobile. Now press and hold this 3 key "green call key, * and 3" together and switch on your mobile. Press and hold down that 3 button till country insertion dialogue appear. Now restore all your backup using PC Suite and explorer. This will solve your problem. If problem still causing then go to nearest Nokia Service Center and give them your mobile for repairing.

Nokia N96 - Problem Updating Music library

Hi, I have transferred some music to my N96 and I am now trying to Update my library to show the new tracks. I have done this lots of times without a problem but today I had it refreshing for 2 hours and it didnt change off the refreshing screen. I have tried stopping it and taking my battery out and still no joy.

Since posting this problem I have been able to use the Music Player quite normally.
The problem and solution, I believe, lie in the way that Nokia's proprietary software (in the case of Macs this is Nokia Multimedia transfer) organises music files.
Nokia Multimedia Transfer organises music into folders named A-Z (and 0-9 if applicable) by artist on the phone. It also truncates folder and file names - folder names seem to be truncated to 13 characters and file names to 9 - fortunately, ID3 tags are not affected.
Any attempt to subvert this hierarchy will result in an incomplete scan of the music library. As Nokia and other methods result in completely different file structures it is necessary to remove all previously synched music from the phone and making a clean sync using Nokia's software.
Additionally, I discovered that as I was trying to synchronise multiple media (music, photos, videos, bookmarks) the whole process would become kind of stuck - that's why I tried alternative methods of synchronising my music. I have completely given up on all other media synchronisation for the sake of getting the music sorted out.
This isn't ideal but at least it works and it saved me from jumping up and down on my phone in shear cartoon frustration!

N96 Problems!!!

Just yesterday I had the opportunity to upgrade the firmware to V12!!!
The thing is that during the update (using NSU), there was a problem twice and after that I managed to install the new firmware.
Now the thing is that this morning I found the mobile off. At first I thought that it died or something since it did not switch on, but then I put it on charge and it switched back on. Thanks God.
Why has this happen, I mean the phone was fully charged before the updating the firmware!!
Another thing is that now the '#' is not working to put the phone on silent or general!!
Plus there were some that stated that after you install FM V12, and then you restart the phone, there would be an increase of about 150mb or something like that in the phone memeory. I saw nothing increase, except that all the memory left remained the same as it was before.
Lastly, I once opened a thread and noone answered. The thing still happens. It is that sometimes when I would be using the phone, I hear 'Bongo' style noise. Can someone please enlighten me with why and what I hear them for!!!??

The reason why your phone was off is becuase if you did software update day before then that would have drained most of your battery resulting in the morning the phone being off.
v12 has some issues regarding the "#" button as other users have had problems with theirs aswell. This is a firmware bug so dont worry. Just wait til new update is released and available on NSU and that shall fix your "#" problem.
For the 150MB it depends really on the firmware variant and what you have stored on the Phones C: (Internal Memory). For the firmware variant each firmware is same apart for you know Orange, 3, T-Mobile each network have their own Themes, Wallpapers, Clip Arts, Sounds embedded into the firmware thus it ends up in the phones Internal Memory (C
Also new firmware come embedded with latest NGAGE, Nokia MAPS that also takes up the internal 150MB down by some MB's.

N96 Problems and disspointment

I have been evangelical about the quality and service of nokia phones since i had my first analogue device in early 1990's - which is a loooong time to be a fan of one company. My n95 was great , i didn't get the newer 95 as i didn't like the lack of camera cover and the lack of card port and the new flagship device was on way.
The n96 has no camera cover so the lens gets scratched rapidly - YOU HAVE TO GET A CASE OR COVER - even then it gets scratched very quickly same as the N95 8 gig ( even with the non belt looped nokia case)
The pencil button has dissapeared so you now cannot quickly change modes when using any charactor based applications , it is now hidden in a menu !!!!???? .
The actual device has a few problems if you use it for much other than toys. From looking at symbion forums these are mostly resolved with the 11.1 firmware update BUT we can't get it - most of these relate to data transfer from usb but also the internal data storage transfer which is at best unreliable .
The camera by the way takes lower quality pictures than the N95 original but takes as good quality video ( with a far higher capacity) bear this in mind if you get one. Also buy direct from Nokia - the service provider crippling on the N96 effectively makes it into a very pretty brick. None of the application I use on my 95 ( generic nokia symbion) work on the n96's i have ( 3 so far for me on VF but my friends have been through 3 or 4 each this week on other networks)
All in all I am a long last disappointed with a nokia flagship product - ordinarily the flagship nokia device has no competitors - the N96 has many and if you want something specific then it is likely that one of them can do it far better. I hope this isn't the death of Nokias flagship. It was far easier not to have to think and just buy the newest Nokia as one knew it was in a class of its own - the n96 is only just able to apply for the top class now rather than being alone. Nokia Please pull your socks up again.

It takes me less than a second to rip the velcro and pull my phone out and click open the shutter protector, its the software that takes longer to load up! but thats a minor bug. Thats why I use a Samsung i6 Digimax just because it starts up so fast. Adding a Neoprene (other spellings available)case even with custom holes cut would raise the surface area over the lens halping to protect it but nothing beats a full cover with fast velcro access, but if it has holes cut it wont stop possible KEY DAMAGE or COIN damage. I recommend using a crystal case as well if they are out yet just because ive dropped my N95 so many times on concrete or hard floor they are so cheap £4 1st I broke the face cover but the important thing is "It did bot break the phone or the screen!" and the rear of the crystal case I still use and it's taken a beating! all for £4, In my boring Creative Labs grey velcro case I've got a layer of Radiation and RF proof material to stop any immediate signals pulsing near my leg or precious eggs available here http://www.handy-fashions.com/indexE.html . I never put my phone in my normal front pockets due to FLUFF, KEYS, COINS, irradiating my eggs! did you know that school kids in science get 2 mobiles and put them either side of the EGG and get one to call the other and the white of the egg goes hard!! :/ but thats for another story I digress, There's some nice full cover gadget cases out there, on amazon theres a "Case Logic" mini harddrive case, these look like theyd fit an N96 quite well, and check the Sony Shops for gadget cases and PC World but check the sizes first before you buy, if you want a small front pocket phone dont get an N96, its so easy to break a screen i cant tell you, i broke my Iriver 40GB players screen by foolishly putting it in a coat pocket that was not zipped up, leaving it flapping by is own weight, it pinged a pole just walking onto a bus and it was ruined and no gadget insurance either!, so unless you use combat trousers like i do with big side pockets, you need to put it in your back pack or where ever you stash your precious gadgets.

N96-Problem in Camera after Firmware Update with 2...

I update my Nokia N96 firmware to 20.050 and i face problem in the Camera that after taking a photo the image processing page came then the phone hang up and restart.
i reinstall the firmware two times and same problem remain and i can't use the camera because of this problem.
the other functions like video and second camera still working.
i try many things like changing the place of storage, camera resoluation and still same problem.
the use same firmware files to update my fiend mobile N96 and he don't have this problem.
i don't know what the soluation actually i dont want to send it to the repair center as their soluation always to formate the mobile and i have many data i dont want to backup it.

Sorry mate but the next step after fiddling with the settings is a reset
Firstly try just a factory reset, if this doesn't work then back up and go for the full 3 finger

Problem: Bookmark sync only works in one direction

I have 2 computer, computer A has vista and computer B is a netbook with XP. The problem is that the bookmark sycn only works in one direction.
For example: both my computer has the same book marks (previously sync with X-mark which is now disabled). I decided to do some clean up on computer B. If Y sync computer A, nothing happens, but when I sync computer B, all the cleanup I made has been undone since computer A override all the changes I made to B.
In other words, the changes I made to B can never be applied to A.

When you're doing a "clean-up" like that you need to use '''Reset Sync''' in Tools > Options > Sync - Current Account = Manage Account and use the ''' ''Replace all other devices with this computer's data'' ''' option. See the attached screenshot - use the third option.

InDesign Fonts problem Bookmark Script

Dear All,
We developed one script for creation of Bookmark in InDesign CS2. When we are runnign this script content formatting is getting anmoly changed, I analyzed InDesign file and came to know that due to a font called "Trade Gothic Bold No. 2" due to this font all formatting of the content is getting change.
But in script I am not doing anything with fonts, only we are untagging the content to take the reference for creation of bookmark. The script is working very fine for other files from last 6-7 months but only this file is having this kind of problem.
If any one know the reason please let me know, I know this might be not related to scripting forum but if we recieved any issue related to it. Please let me know the solutions also how to aviod these kind of problem.

In all likelihood, you have based one or more of your paragraph styles on "[Basic Paragraph]". If the Basic Paragraph style differs from document to document, then when you paste text in it will change to match Basic Paragraph in this doc instead.
Edit the styles in both documents to be based on "No Style" instead.

FF4 problems - bookmark multiple tabs, cursor, open in new tab

What's happened to being able to bookmark multiple tabs - I don't need it often but it's really useful when I do. I can't find it in FF4.
I'm having a problem with my webmail. I used to access the password field with a single click, now I have to click twice before the cursor is active. I run into this problem multiple times a day.
Open link in new tab: in FF4 I keep opening a new window by mistake - it's really annoying. Why was the position of this command changed in the shortcut menu. I use the command many times a day and my brain is too old to adapt easily.
Likewise the refresh button has moved. I use this button countless times a day - it's really annoying to find that I can no longer automatically refresh a page.

The reload button is now on the end of the location bar (where you type web addresses ) by default. It isa stip button whilsta page loads, and a reload button after a page has loaded. There are also options to use completely separate reload and stop buttons, or to add a button to the toolbar that changes between the stop and reload functions.
The changes may be made without adding any extension, the option used to be called customise (in my en-uk) or customize (en-US) and is now available from
* Firefox Button -> Options -> toolbar layout ...
* or by right clicking an empty space on a toolbar
Note the order of the buttons determines whether it displays as a merged button, or as separate stop and reload buttons.

N96 Problem after update to v12

Hi , after i update my n96 to latest v12 , i got just 1 problem , and the problem is , when i open the gallery photo my picture quality not the good as v10 (first firmware).
it's like my images , (camera images and other images in phone) , not loaded full , it's like image quality is 80%.
Please help me. just 1 other thing , if i landscape the phone , problem solve . what can i do?

Ok here's the scoop.
In V10 the thumbnails only showed the high quality version but it took much longer to generate so the CPU was busy longer creating slowdown when you loaded a lot of pictures and then tried to use the phone.
In V12 a new approach seems to be taken where the thumbnails are generated in very low rez until you stay in the focus of a picture for a few seconds then it generates the high rez thumbnail. This speeds up the process of generating the first set of thumbnails and thus speeds up the phone when you just loaded a few hundred pictures.
So it's a good trade-off IMHO.

Help - Nokia N96 Problems

I hope someone can help me out here.
I have had the Nokia N96 as part of an 18 month contract on O2 UK since April and ever since i've had the phone, I've had nothing but problems with it and i'm really am up to the point where I'm so fed up with it, I'm taking my other phone on PAYG with me everywhere I go.
I find the N96 is extremely slow at loading up messages, it's sometimes slow at keeping up with your texting, it has 3 times this year deleted every message in inbox, drafts & sent after the phone has been switched off. It's also restarted itself on a number of occassions.
Today, my phone went flat because I hadn't charged it up and so when I got home, I put it on charge and turned the phone on so I could check my messages. The annoying thing is, the home screen wouldn't load up the icons or the text for 'Messaging' and 'BBC iPlayer' so I went to the menu (as you would) and selected 'Messaging'.
"Messaging: Already in use" is the error I get. Clearly, it's not in use, so I took the phone off charge, removed battery etc etc. Still same problem, done a firmware update, still same problem, reset the phone, still the same problem.
I can not find a solution for this, really in a foul mood because of this as I am unable to send messages or view messages on my phone.

With all these operations I recommend you TAKE OUT MEMORY CARD and DO A BACK UP OF YOUR STUFF!!!
NOTE: In front of the hash key ( #) there is also a STAR key that people often miss and state that the code does not work.
1.. *#7780# - Restore factory settings - resets all the settings to the default ( you will not lose any data) Make sure you back up your data as you will lose all of it when you perform option 2 or 3 on this list. The default code for ALL operations listed here is 12345.
2.*#7370# - Reformat your phone (out of the box, tho keep in mind that most newer nokia phones at least n series, e series and s60 based phones have udp - user data preservation so not ALL data may be lost. still it is a good idea to always do a back up of your stuff.)3. This you perform as a last resort. Nothing else is working.If the phone is not showing any activity, proceed with hard formatting , turn off your phone, hold the following buttons while pressing the power button. (the default code is 12345)
3. hard reset - hold the following buttons * (star key), 3 (number button) and talk/green key. turn on the phone and do not release those buttons until you see the Nokia boot up screen. once you feel the phone power up you can let go off the power button while still holding all three buttons ( for Nokia 5800XM - use the following buttons to do a hard reset, /GREEN/RED/CAMERA keys pressed all at once on power up. this will only work on 5800's that have firmware version 20... and up. ) For Nokia N97 (unofficial version but works) is SHIFT /SPACE BAR / BACKSPACE while holding the power button. Again do not let go until you see the handshake screen.
If these codes are not working the only thing for you to do is contact your Nokia Care Center/Service for assistance.

N96 problems sending messages; phone attempts to r...

Hi there
I have read most relevant topics on here bu haven't managed to find a solution.
Around 3 days ago my phone just started having porblems sending messages.. it moves the message to the outbox and the little sending msg icon appears on the top right hand side as normal. It says "sending" as normal, but 9x out of 10 the error message "resend at so n so time" appears.
Some friends have said they receive the message, but receive it around 3 or 4 times.. i'm guessing this is when ive left the phone after pressing send and the phone goes into "resend mode".
Ok things I've done:
My sim works fine in another handset ( samsung one), no problems sending msgs
another o2 sim works fine in my handset :/
the msg centre number is fine, i've done the whole cleaning the sim/phone as recommended on o2's website..
i've refreshed my connection to the network too.
So what else could it be?

I've restored to factory settings and reapplied my back up, everything seems to have restored except my messages, bookmarks havent either.. :s
I've even tried reapplying the bacup but just selecting messages...

My N96 problems..

Hi, Since a couple months I've bought my self a Nokia N96.. I like the features but I can't use it..
Everytime when I want to call someone or what ever.. My phone acts weird.. When I dont use it at all.. and then I take my phone and I want to call someone... suddenly nothing works... I've got various issues... Sometimes when I try to call someone the " green call " button doesnt call a person I want.. It does work tho.. when im on the mainmenu and I press that button it goes to the list who I called.. but when I press that button on someones name.. It doesn't call him..
back light never turns on
media keys sometimes dont light up...
maps gps signal takes 30 minutes to get gps..and alott more..
I tried to update it a couple times.. But he can't find any updates anymore when I do *#0000# and then "Look for updates"

Maybe you should first try the soft reset *#7370# (you will format your phone and everything will be erased, so you should do a back up first). If that does not work then you should try the hard or so called three finger reset. It is like this: Turn off your phone, hold * 3 and the Green call button and switch on the phone. Keep the keys held until the phone is fully powered up! This will also erase everything that is on your phone!!! Good Luck!

N96 problem after firmware update

after updating my firmware from v20 to v30,
my N96-1 shows only Nokia logo for a few seconds ... and the white screen appear for several minutes ....
then my phone reboot again ... and again ..
i can't even turn off the phone

i just revieved a msg, i read it and replied.
then i went back to re read it and its been deleted, a, along with over 100 of my revieced msgs, and all of my sent msgs! i dont know what the helll happened, i never changed any of my settings.
can any one shed some light on this?

It happened both with v10 and v11 (V12 isn't available for my phone yet)
However It havent happened yet since I went to a service store and they formatted the phonememory and reinstalled v11.
It happened twice before that deleting everything exept delivery reports. I save my messafes on the mass memory. (the few messages on the phone memory wasn't deleted though. It seems it only affects the active message file when it happens.
It happened if my whone crashed while writing a message.
I'll post again if it happens again
