N96 T-Mobile - Firmware

Hi
I recently unlocked my N96 via the lovely people from t-mobile.
I wanted to know if there is anyway to upgrade my phone to the latest firmware.
I'm currently on 12.xxx something.... the upgrade software tells me that I have the latest update for this particular t-mobile branded phone.
Wanted to know if there is a way round it?

By unlock I presume you mean you have applied the network unlock code to remove the sim bar
Unfortunatly this does not affect your ability to update the firmware as your phones product code is still tied to t-mobile and there release schedule
Your only legitimate route is to contact t-mobile and get there written permission to have the phone de-branded, then take this to a nokia care point who will use official software to change the phones product code, replace the label under the battery and enable you to update
any other method you may read about on the internet will void your warenty and cannot be discussed here

then my phone reboot again ... and again ..

N96 new v20 firmware available in N96-3 NAM model?

Hi i heard that the new v20 N96 firmware was great and made many improvement to the buggy N96, i am just wondering if it is or would come out on the N96-3 NAM US model soon? my N96 is sim-free and is currently in firmware v.12, product code is 0570666. I tried on FOTA and it saids no updates available, i also tried on NSU and it told me the same thing. I really want the new N96 firmware, any help? Thank You in Advance =)

glennl, thanks for answering, umm.. can you provide more detail on how you got your v20 firmware installed on your N96-3? like where you got it installed? Nokia Software Updater (NSU)? Firmware Over-The-Air (FOTA)? and is your product code the same as mine (0570666)? Since your N96 is the NAM version i suspect you got your N96-3 in the States? Thank you once again in advance

1. Slide management - for open/close slide for active call.
2. Power saver - should have option to choose DATE, TEXT like N85.
I just change from n85 to n96, cool phone indeed.
Just added Garmin and coreplyer.
Anyone got other comments on n96 firmware??

1. I was bothered with this one with my previous N95 8GB. It should be fixed in. Otherwise there is an 3rd party application that'll do the job for you. Unfortunately I forgot the name. Psyko knows it.

Nokia N96 30.033 firmware Problems And Errors....

Hi guys,
I have updated my N96 software to 30.033.
I have noticed some problems which are
1) GPS is not working?
2) Ringtone quality is not good ( Overall Speaker Quality is not good after update)
3) There is No facebook.
4) Phone gets switch off automatically.
5) Music player, videoplayer, Camera is very slow.
6) overall phone working is very slow.
The main issue is GPS not working.
Please some one help on GPS.
I hope Nokia Update Developer will read this review and they will launch a new update to solve these issues very soon with all modifications.

hey friend's and nokia !! i m very disappoint from nokia that nokia has forget to update the firmware of it's beloved nokia N96. near to Christmas and new year nokia release firmware updates of his almost all handsets and i was too expecting same for N95 and nokia N82 for his oldies ... i m still in wait that nokia is going to so anything ... but i want to ask why nokia had done such bad with nokia n96... even i m using my phone from last more than 1 year and i had fully upgrade it. and after using it from a long time i had found that more improvements should be there which are necessarily required..... i m having unbranded nokia n96 i had updated it with latest available firmare v30.033 but nothing happen it's more creapy ... so slow .. even video ringtones didn't work after activation of audio themes i had download the audio themes from nokia.com and installed them and using them after that video ringtone stop and when i recive a call it plays default nokia tone. very slow to operate i had added more then 50 bookmarks in my nokia n96 when i try to open multiple pages more then 3 phone start hanging. and tool a long time on reboot .. please make it as god as currently running nokia n95 last ver. i had reset reformat 3 keyfrmat every possibility i can do with my nokia i had done even i thought that the firmware is not upgraded well so i took it to nokia care and told them everything they suggest me for a refomat and reinstallation of firmware so they done that but nothing happen. even i m having more than 2000 sms in my inbox and when a new message arrives and when i try to open it it took around 1-2 min. to open. previously i had configured my mail box also then due to so slow resopnce in message opening i remove it. and the speed got little bit better but not up to the mark .. definately it neesd a firmware upgrade ... please nokia make it done ASAP. so please update me when it's going to be happen ... or i have to cry for a long ... u can revert me on or even contact on @ i'll be glad if u revert me ......

N96 Screen or firmware problems

i just bourght a n96 about 2 weeks ago... it was working fine and all then after a few days it started to run a bit slow like when i slide the screen to change from horizontal screen to vertical screen... then eventually when i ran out of battery i charged it.. now when i turn it on it boots fine but when i have the screen in the normal position where i can use the number keys the screen freezes untill i slide it into horizontal mode.
i can only use the fone when its in the horizontal slide mode...
everytime i slide it into the normal screen it freezes untill i slide it back
i updated the phone and all the firmware
ive tried charging the fone for hours and hours too see if it was a power issue.
but still i cant use it with the keypad ect in its normal screen.
any solutions? i am going to take it into the store but im checking on here first

Try a format *#7370#. All data saved to phone will be erased so make sure that you have backed up all important files
Nokia n95, 5800 and n97

N96 crash during firmware upgrade & unrecoverable

Finally Nokia sent me a text to say that a firmware upgrade - from 10 to 11 was available. I've tried to install it after first backing up the phone. During upgrade where the upgrade software continually referred to connection problems (while the Nokia PC Suit showed the connection to be in place) with about 5 minutes of remaining installation time the installer gave up. It asked me to turn off the phone and reconnect which I did. The installer could not recover the installation. I now have a phone that will turn on but just has a blank screen and PC Suit won't recognise it so I can't restore from the backup.
Any ideas? Does my second N96 have to be sent back to Nokia?
This is all becoming rather silly...

B4 you update I found this improves the way it works
before you connect phone by USB
Plug in charger and leave in (make sure its turned on at the wall socket)
1st switch to line 1 if you have 2 lines
set profile on genral
turn off password on boot
turn OFF pincode request
turn OFF fixed dial
IF you have Lights ON installed uninstall it (you can put it back after)
if You have any other prog that RUNS all the time Like Lights ON unistall that too. (eg rotate me on N95)
TURN OFF PHONE
remove SD card
TURN ON PHONE to get a clean boot with nothing running in background
now make sure you connect in PC suite mode when you plug in USB
run P C suite click on Spanner TOOLS
go down to software update
NOW WAIT if it says there is a new version or it loads new drivers
there are 5 or 6 cable drivers that it MUST load before it starts it only does that once the 1st time
Now all will go well
most of the crashes are caused by either a prog running on the phone or the pin or password being set and the phone cant reboot or a flat battery

Files Missing After Updates Of Mobile Firmware

Hello sir,
i had taken a backup of my phone memory and before that i had removed my memory card
then i updated my firmware softwares on my Nokia E66
and then restored my all the data that i took the backup
however all the backuped data came back
but when i inserted my memory card a few of the fiels where missing not all but few
it shows that they are installed properly in the App.Managar
However they are not visible in the Folders where they are supposed to be or they were
i dont want to reinstall the softwares as they have some saved data in it
and i reinstall all the saved data willl be gone
so please let me know wht to do to get the files back to normal

you will have to contact the developers of the application, as this is a user to user forum for Nokia products and services only. However, since it is such an old app (and even if it is part of bundled software with the N96 when you bought), support for this model and the application may have ended at your local Nokia Care a long time ago.

Reinstall again after firmware opdate - N96

If I make a backup of N96, doing a firmware update, how much will be restored by creating a restore?
Lost everything on the phone both internal memory and the 16 Gb extra space and must installe everything again , or is there programs who still will work on my phone intern or extern memory ?

The N96 has UDP (User Data Protection). If UDO works as intended you won't need to restore anything as it will all still be on the phone.
The backup is an insurance policy, just in case UDP doesn't work. You will get a list of boxes to tick to select what you wish to backup. Selecting everything especially the mass storage will seriously lengthen the time it takes to back up. I generally just backup just data as I prefer to reinstall applications anyway.
Also, note that the standard pcsuite will not backup licences for movies and music. You have to use OVI suite if you want these backed up.
However all this is academic if UDP works as intended.

Anyone Solved the N96 Update Issue?

Wondering if anyone has come up with a solution to the problem of being asked to remove battery, charger and retry etc when using Nokia PC Suite to upgrade the firmware?
I have a branded T-Mobile N96 and the firmware update is available now to 11.###
I can't get past the step where it asks me to disconnect the charger and press the power button - very frustrating!
Anyone solved it?

I had a lot of trouble updating my N82 using vista. It worked fine using XP. I have successfully updated other phones using vista but I still prefer XP for updates.
You should consider a reset as a last resort. Back up before you do using ovi suite if you have any pre-installed content that has a licence key. If you have installed any apps to the mass memory it may help to format that before a *#7370# reset.
Reset to factory defaults (*#7780#) : Restores settings but preserves user data (photos, 3rd party apps etc)
Reset (*#7370#) : This reformats completely the C: drive. All applications and files stored on this drive will be lost and clean default files will be rewritten.

Setting up email on n96

I am having trouble setting up my email on the N96. i have a pop3 account with 1and1 and an email address that ends .co.uk. It wont connect and comes up with the scvreen showing user name and password but the .uk is missing off the user name. I put it back in but it still drops iot off when I try to connect. I also have a BT yahoo accountb that connects OK

N96 Loose slider already

I have had my Nokia N96 for less than 4 weeks and the slider has already started to work loose. Three of the four corners of the phone rattle under minimal pressure when the phone is in the closed position.
Unfortunately due to my impatience at waiting for the T-mobile firmware update I fear I may have invalidated my warranty by forcing the latest version on it.
Has anybody been brave enough to open theirs up and figure out if its possible to adjust the slider mechanism? Have opened my casing but not been brave enough to remove the six screws on the sides of the slider (yet!).
Personally I have been a Sony Ericsson user for the past 3 years and was tempted by this phone when it was released. Wished I had waited for the C905 now as whilst the phone has serious potential, the firmware is appauling and the thing constantly hangs for 20/30 seconds when trying to do the most straighforward things such as texting.

it's very normal for slider phones to loosen alittle bit with use, usually not to a disturbing degree. most of the creeking sounds in the n96 come mainly from the edges of the battery cover, so make sure that is installed into place correctly.
using a generic firmware on a branded phone has definitly invalited your warranty, added to that is the fact that you have tampered with the hardware.
i think most of the software problems you're complaining from will be solved as newer version of the firmware are released.

hola jose.. i have had the same problem with my e55 when i bought it and when 2 or 3 time F-S i faced the same problem the mobile automaticly send an sms on the same number as u mentioned but after updatting my mobile firmware it didn´t happens again. u should check ur mobile FW or go to nokia care point they can solve it i think so. i am also from spain.
