N97 and Symbian 3

Can N97 hardware support Symbian 3 features?
Regards
Achin Jain

Good luck with your SE. I live in Sweden and have stayed away from SE. The first 2 I had stopped functioning after a couple of months. My 3rd SE was the P990i, at the time I bought it it was the company's best phone. True disappointment. Laggy and many many bugs. Updates to cover the bugs came all the time but to reveal some others. At a certain point they stopped, they didn't care about the customers who had paid around 600$ to get that **bleep** big bulky phone.
To further accentuate the fact that they stop functioning, my uncle got a C series last year. 6 months later the touch sensitive buttons were not working.
As for your Xperia, I have been in the shops, tried it and I can say it is the laggiest in between android. It doesn't even support multitouch.
Anyways, let's get back to Nokia. I agree with the guys that older phones cannot support new and crucial updates due to hardware limitations, but Nokia works all the time with new updates even to older phone to fix any possible bug.
I have been a Nokia user for years and I have chosen them as my favourite brand. I currently own a e71.

  • Nokia Experience (N97 and 5800)

About two weeks ago I was in the market for new a new cell phone...being an AT&T user I decided to go unlocked instead of buying a subsidised phone.  After searching the net I gave up and went to a cell phone "boutique" store here in Washington DC which specialize in unlocked phones.  This place came highly recomended so I gave them a try.  I went into the store to find that there was a lot of Nokia advertisement in the store.  In the past I haven't dealt with nokia much.  I told the salesman what I was looking for and he first tried to sell me an IPhone but at $800 unlocked I passed.  I then told him that I was also looking for a phone for my girlfriend.  I have big fingers so I needed a keyboard...long story short I left the store with an N97 for myself and a 5800 for my GF.
I should have done more research on Nokia and not just listen to the salesman.
The first few days were great then came an update for the N97 and things seemed wonderful.  But things started going south for both phones.  Since the 5800 belonged to my GF and ultimately caused me the most grief we'll start with that one.
    5800:
My GF uses the phone for three things...talking, texting and facebook.  The phone is untouched outside of the latest updates and adding the Facebook app.  Every so often the phone will freeze after a phone call, she is usually around me when this happens and she just throws the phone at me and says fix it.  The Facebook app is useless and doesn't come close to any other Facebook app out there (I hear it constantly).  The web browser will shut down on it's own for no reason.  She has like 1000 friends literally and she find scrolling through her contacts annoying and the search function is not always helpful.  There are many other little small glitches that she complains about and I have to hear and feel the results...thans Nokia.
I use the N97 myself.  I got it because it has the Keyboad and I am a DJ and have tons of music that I like to carry with me.  After a couple of days of use and a couple of app installs..the phone became slow(er). Switching from landscape to portrait and back would cause the phone to stop and think for a second (or two).  The phone wants to go to landscape when some one call, this a very annoying and gets in the way.  I have almost 30 gb of music and phonos in the phone and I will say that digging through them is painful to say the least...why can the photos be place in folders in the gallery?  The nokia browser does the samething that the 5800 does with the shutting down problem.  The alarm clock is off by several minutes.  My phones randomly freezes for no apparent reason.
After searching the web I stumbled across this forum and started reading the many topic...wow I am not alone.  Many people are having the same issues and it looks like these issues have been around for some time.  Isn't this a Nokia forum?  Do they even read this forum?  How could these phone go through several updates and still have the same annoying problems?  All I can say is WOW. Before the is Phone I had a Blackberry and it too had its bugs when it came out but in subsequent updates the bugs went away.  I have heard the same for other smarthpones.  Being a first time Nokia user, this left a foul taste in my mouth.  I call the store to complain and they are willing to cut me a deal on any other phone they sell since my Nokia experience has been less than favorable.
Sorry for the long rant...I didn't come here to vent, I actually came for advice.  Before I go and return these phone and lay down even more money, please tell me that there is a light at the end of this tunnel.  You guys have more experience with Nokia's than I do and I am willing to listen to your advice in this matter...should I stay or should I leave?  HELP!!!

    Okey, thanks. Nice to know!

  • N97 and Home Media

Anyone found where Home Media is in the N97 ? I'm need it to browse and access PC based media the way I did with my N95.  Thanks
    Nokia 808
    Nokia CK-200

Hi, unfortunately I don't believe it's possible, I am a current N97 and ex (and current) N95 8gig user. However, if you want a very useable compromise start a free Ovi Files account. I have one and can access up to 10 gig of files from my pc from anywhere any time on phone even when computer switched off. If I wnted to leave computer connected to web when I'm out I could access the lot !! It's worth a go, don't use it a lot , but if I occasionally need a photo or tune from my 'Anytime ' files it's handy to just download to my phone.
    Good Luck

  • N97 and N85 Camera mechanism malfunction from magn...

    Hello all,
I'm new here and the reason that registered is to tell to you about thing that i discovered yesterday.
So if you have N97 and use a pouch to carry it on your belt, you may be aware that in case the pouch
closed by the built-in magnets, the magnets will operate the camera mechanism even if the phone is locked.
As soon as i discovered it on my new Nokia N97, i picked up from my memory that my fiernd who owns
the Nokia N85, complaned in the past about unwanted front camera operation. We made the test on the N85
and found the same as on N97 - even when the phone is locked, the front camers starts operation from the
magnets proximity. And its the magnets in the standard cell-phone pouch. I bought my Nokia N97 few days
ago at the Orange provider store together with the pouch. My N97's locker side swich is already doesnt operate
well becase of the magnets of the pouch. Since the pouch was recomened by Orange and sold in the Orange
office, i asked today the Orange to exchange my N97 by new one.
The problem of the sensitivity to the magnets in pouch: the front camera operates and some times even records.
So the battery of the phone and memory are becoming empty much faster than expected.
So take care guys - buy only non-magnetic locking pouch!
    Best regards!

Guys, i've been told by Orange that they will replace my phone since te magnets of the pouch screwed up the sensors...

  • N97 and SAP V2 Bluetooth

    Hi
I have a Mercedes Benz E220 CDI with the COMAND systems and a SAP V2 Bluetooth cradle, which I currently use in conjunction with my Nokia N95
I am consiering buying the new N97 and want to know whether it is compatiable with the SAP V2?
    Can anyone help?

I can help. I have that running since yesterday when my new N97 came and it runs like magic. Not only is the pairing relatively easy but the remote access works wonderfully. Then you press 0000 / dial on the Car phone (MB Command in my case) and the phone book is transferred to the Merc including ALL !!! numbers that you have per contact. In other words no more multiple entries in your Outlook, just because the stupid Bluetooth in your car can't handle multiple numbers per contact. Hats off to the folks at Nokia. Nice Bluetooth SAP implementation.
The one thing you need to know is that the MB command takes a very long time for the initial pairing and phone book transfer. It takes for absolutely ever and while it is working on it it constantly gives you messages to the effect that 'no phone is detected' and 'no connection can be established' and "Sorry but you are a total loser" etc. when in fact everything is absolutely fine. This threw me the first time I did this. Once you have the pairing completed, just dial for zeros and hit dial and let it do its thing and give it 10 mins or so. Once you are set up, in the future you just get in the car and everything is automatic, as long as you have Bluetooth enabled on the phone.
However, it does not stop there. WHILE you have your N97 paired up in SIM ACCESS mode, you go to the N's music player, start your favourite music, select random play, switch on the FM transmitter on your phone and the thing will actually start transmitting your favourite music to your car radio in great quality. Now, THIS is all you ever wanted from a mobile comms system and never dared to ask, a clean car interior in terms of radiation, sweetened with some smooth music from your mobile phone and all with just one device. I got so carried away, that I actually fiddled on my car's command system in order to switch tracks on the N. Took a minute to realize I was listening to a Radio station called Nokia which was what appeared on the Radio's Display as the Broadcast Station's name ;-). Obviously I don't know about any other cars. Mine is a SL350 / 2007 with its standard MB command system.
I then figured that my radio actually supports WAP and also gives me access to my SMS text messages, including text or voice response option. Next thing I'll try is whether I can get a stock ticker or RSS feed of sorts pushed to my radio display via WAP. As you figure by now I am very happy with the N97. It is an expensive phone but if it holds up mechanically, I think I will be using this for a long time.

  • Help: Oracle lite 10.3.0.1.0 and symbian 9 s60

    Greetings,
I installed the oracle litle server, I have a client installed windows 32, and synchronizes works, the problem is when I want to install a client for symbian,
first how to enable the client for Oracle Lite Symbian OS v7 and OS v7/UIQ2.1 in mobile server, to make install from the client gives me an internal error (http://serverlite:8080/webtogo/admin/console/setup/),
download the patch from the metalink and downloads from oracle downloads area (the same, Oracle Database Lite 10g Release 2 (10.2.0.1.8) Mobile Client for Symbian 9 ), I installed olite_core.sis Successfully
and there is where I do not run in phone nokiea E61, and install msync other utilities on the phone nokia E61, but is not doing as synchronization
    the question is:
-exist patch for oracle lite 10.3.0.1.0 and symbian 9 s60
-how to enable client for symbian 9 s60 in oracle lite server 10.3.0.1.0
-how to sync from client nokia E61i, with msync and others tool in the oracle lite server
-where install olite_epoc.zip (in the phone or the IDE developer and SDK nokia)
    my plattform:
server: Windows XP and Oracle lite 10.3.0.1.0 Server
Client1: windows xp client windows 32
Clientn: Phone Nokia E61i with symbian 9 s60

    Hi Roy,
For symbian 9 you have downloaded the correct binaries, there is no other patch for symbian. You should be able to sync symbian client database with 10.3.0.1 server.
Make sure that server is in the public network otherwise GPRS based synchronize does not work.
Use the example application user as s11u1 to get the syn examples working with mobile server.
Synchronization from E61i will also work , but dialogues messages in the UI will not displayed properly
Olite_epoc.zip should be installed in IDE/SDK, not in the phone .
Please read the documents for symbian in the meta-link.
If you have any question or doubts, please contact us (oracle lite team)

  • N97 and clipboard...what is it??

I got N97 and i had a text message, opened options and sent it to clipboard. where is clipboard? whats the main use for clipboard? out of touch anyone explain uses?? Thanks Mark.

From what I understand, the o2hbmonitor utility monitors if the cluster is up by scanning files in the /sys/kernel/debug directory, which the kernel creates when you use the debugfs facility. If the debugfs files do not exist or configured thresholds exceed than o2hbmonitor prints a message. The files are all virtual and do not occupy any space similar to procfs and systemfs.

  • E71 and Symbian or S60 operating systems

    Hello, all!
I have loved my Nokia E71 smartphone so far. The only thing that really tweeks me is not being able to try or use the ton of new things that come out daily for other operating systems like Android, Blackberry, and Windows Mobile. Is there a site or Symbian program that would show Symbian alternatives to programs from other operating systems?
It almost seems like a punishment to see what the other operating systems get to play around with when Symbian is treated like a re-headed step child. It seems like we are left out in the cold often.
I know the fix would be to buy a phone with one of the more popular mobile operating systems or use a cell carrier that uses one of the above mentioned operating systems. The company I use gives me unlimited text, internet, and voice services for $45 a month which is tons better than the $75-$110 I would be paying for limited usage. The sad trade-off is less choices of upper-end cell phones. Where I'm at, Straight Talk only offers 3-4 smart phones and all of them are Symbian or S60 operating systems.
If similiar apps were offered for our opearting system, I'd be tickled beyond beleif! Any thoughts or advice? I really don't see myself going with a more expensive cell plan or utilizing anything besides Nokia phones. Nokia is what I have to choose from and, quite honestly, I'm very pleased with Nokia phones aside of the operating system sadness.
Thanks in advance for any input! I hope y'all have a great week and weekend!

    I was afraid of that.
I'm looking for functional apps mainly. I don't game or do anything but use the phone for texting, calls, and very light surfing. The main app I want is a very good paid or free app for blocking SMS and unwanted calls. I use Kaspersky 8 currently, but it doesn't quite do everything I want.
I want the SMS and calls blocked or refused completely. Kaspersky puts calls in a Black List for me, but the callers can still leave voicemail. I have not found a setting to stop that. I have seen several blocking apps listed in the app store but hate having to pay for something and then discover it's not what it's cracked up to be. My budget doesn't allow for that kind of experimenting.
I'm also looking for a better antivirus and internet security program for my phone. I have not been real happy with Kaspersky 8 or 9 and have even gotten rid of it on my computers. I now use Vipre Antivirus and I'm happy with them for my computers. They do have a smartphone program, but not for S60 and Symbian operating systems. Sadness.
Thanks for your input! Have a great weekend!

  • N97 and Opera Mobile - virtual keyboard

Is there any way to swtich the virtual keyboard off on Opera Mobile? I'd like to be able to type direct into the webpage, like you can on the built-in browser. Also, some symbols aren't available on the virtual keyboard (and the symbol key on the hard keyboard is deactivated).
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Hi, I've used Opera mini for about 18 months, find it great. To remove virtual keyboard go to settings (on Opera), Advanced, Inline-Editing,set to off.. You won't be able to edit on web page have to use notepad that appears then ok to enter on page, but both QWERTY and phone virtual pad will work. Also have tried Opera Mobile 10, but find it caused freezing/locking and didn't seem any better or faster than Opera mini 5 Beta, which for the last 4 months has performed faultlessly on my N97, and which I continue to use. Hope this helps. Also try Snaptu, very useful and time saving, but need to go into Application settings, Installed apps, options settings, turn off onscreen keypad.

Symbian is now open sourced !!!
so now you can head over to www.symbian.org and download the source code for free and modify it in anyway, ofcourse you have to stick to the policies

btw apologies to the v21.0.045 disappearing thread, apparently my NSU had a problem with it's log file which i didn't think would ever happen :L

  • NOKIA N97 and BH-507

Grazie.
I recently bought the Nokia BH-607. I am very disappointed. The headset is not compatible with the Nokia BH-607. The first connection all ok, it is recognized by the ACA. Then, once off the phone or stop the Bluetooth connection, or spend an hour or so, the software no longer recognizes the ACA aulicorare and to do that review, we must carry out the 'Hard Reset your phone. I asked for help to technical support online and, without wasting time, they told me to go to a Nokia Point. I do not have the possibility of losing days of work for a stupid software problem. If someone has had the same problem and managed to solve it, let me know. Thank you.

Both these links state that it is compatible...
