N97: application updating problems

Hi. Have had my N97 for little over a month. In that time, the SW Update app offered the Nokia Messaging 10.1 and 10.2 updates, that were applied without any problems. However, now that the Ovi Maps 3.3 update is available, the updating process fails every time. Only thing I get is "Installation failed", with no further info as to the cause or how to remedy it.
In case this has a bearing, memory usage is:
Phone, 73MB total 39.6 used, 33.4 free
Mass: 29.8GB total, 749.3 MB used, 29.1 free
Memory card: 7.6 GB total, 18 MB used, 7.6 free

Memory reorganiser will download either Over The Air or via Ovi suite through software updates.
But best way to save space is to follow the many threads about saving space on C on the forum, save all apps to E, save all messages to E, delete and maove any app from C that you can and clear Privacy data on phone browser on a regular basis.......................

Nokia N97 Software Update Problem!

My N97 was working fine a few mintues ago and I decided to update my version from v11 to v20.
As I've updated my version before and nothing was wrong I didn't think of backing up my data (stupid), as the update was downloading I minimized the NSU as my brother wanted to use the computer. When I came back it said something like "Update failed" can't remember what it said as I just read quick and pressed "Try again", it didn't work so I hoped that the second time it would work. Unfortunately it didn't work so I just decided to press Cancel. The NSU was shutting down and I checked my phone and the screen was all white so my immediate recation was to take out the battery and put it straight back in. I done that and I tried turning on the phone, nothing happened except the phone vibrated like it usually does when I turn it on but it didn't turn on, when I hold the power button it just keeps vibrating. Took out the battery several times, waited about 5 mins and put it back in and yet didn't work. I put the phone in the charger to see if it would charge, nothing happened. Put it back in the usb and it keeps connecting/disconnecting but nothing happens.
I have loads of improtant files that are stored in the phones mass memory so I wouldn't like to have to do any type of reset that would make me lose my data. Please help!

I am NOT an expert on this at all, even though I did recently update from V12 to V20. I had a different problem in that the phone would not start due to the Phone Memory (not Mass Memory) being full. In the end I was able to connect to the PC Suite and delete some application I don't use (like Facebook etc) and free up some memory to allow it to start.
However, in doing some reading to find out what to do, I am sure I recall seeing that the hard reset of the phone only wipes the Phone Memory, not the Mass Memory. Double check that by reading some of the search items on Hard Reset, but I think I remember that correctly. You will lose your contacts and message/web history but that may not be as big a problem as the other important data.
I did do a backup first but did not have to use it as it updated to V20 without losing any data (as you experienced on your earlier update).
Unfortunately I now have another issue, as V20 seems to work differently in the file system and I cannot transfer files as I used to any more but I will put that question in a separate thread.

IPhone Application Update Problem -- Please Help

So I downloaded the application Aurora Feint. Synced it to my iPhone and all was well. Then apparently there was an update. Instead of logging onto iTunes and updating it that way, I decided to try out the Application Store update feature on the iPhone itself. The problem is that the feature won't work for programs later than 10MB. (Aurora Feint is 20+MB.) So now I'm left with an unusable Aurora Feint update icon on my screen that is just taking up space.
I tried holding down the icons so I could just click the X to get rid of it. Problem is the update icon has no X. Then I tried syncing my phone via iTunes and telling it to remove the AF application. Supposedly it did. But when I disconnected the phone, the AF update icon is still there.
Can someone please tell me how to get rid of the blood thing?

If all else fails, first remove the app from iTunes (delete it), then do a restore of the iPhone. It should be gone after the restore.

Application update problem with v5 core applications

The version 6 Desktop Manager consistently tells me that I have a 34.1 MB update of the 5.0.0 core applications pending. If I "Apply", everything seems to go reasonably well (except that I usually have to fix this or that annoying change the procedure causes in some of my settings) but at the end I'm still told I need to do this update. When I try to exit from the Desktop Manager it beseeches me one last time to do this download.
The only thing I can figure is that I haven't downloaded about 90% of the many languages available in this software version, English, French, and German being all I can handle (does anyone know any speakers of Galician? I'm embarrassed to admit I don't even know where that language is commonly used!), and that the updater won't rest until I've installed them all. Purely a guess, and probably not a good one.
Any thoughts? I haven't seen reference to this (or haven't looked in the right places). Thanks.

I have the same problem as well. The 5.0.0 Core Application has a red star next to it and says "available update" but there's no where to update it in the summary listing below. There's a yellow exclamation mark on the bottom that says I've exceeded available storage but the update is 35.2 MB and I currenlty have 124.5 available. Also, the "Apply" button below does nothing when I press it.
Like Mike, I removed all languages except for English because this devise has so little memory capacity that it would freeze if I didn't.
Any information known would be appreciated. When I try to exit the program it, too, reprimands me saying that I haven't finished the necessary updates.

Sony Xperia C mobile ALBUM application update problem photos restored after deleting

I have updated the ALBUM application of Xperia C with version ALBUM 6.5.A.0.10; after updating the same whenever I delete photos, videos from ALBUM application the same get restored after restarting the mobile phone. Please guide me **bleep** to solve the same. I have deleted the thumbnail folder drom DCIM folder. Even if same problem occurs.

Application update problem - update sticks at "Waiting..."

For about the last week, on most occasions when I've tried to update an app, the icon on the phone has changed to "waiting..." but the app itself has never downloaded. If I synch the phone with iTunes, iTunes displays the same icon.
I can't find a way of re-downloading the apps to my phone and fixing the problem - can anyone help? For some of them, e.g. mapping applications, i've got quite a bit of data that I'd rather not lose..

I have had the same thing happen on two occasions. I powered off the phone and turned it back on and the app appeared right away. On both occasions the app was no long in its folder but on the main screen. I think it may have something to do with the app running in the background when it tries to update.

Application Updates Problems

I was alerted to 2 new updates for apps installed via iTunes on my Mac laptop. I clicked the download all free apps button (as usual) and nothing happened: no downloads, no updates, no nothing.
Now I have the number "2" sitting beside the Applications option in iTunes and annoying me to no end.
When I select the 'Check for available downloads..." menu item from the store menu, it tells me I have nothing to download. When I go into my account, naturally they show in my list of crap I downloaded.
I tried to contact support, but what a process and a major turn off. So what's up? I suppose I should try it on my iPhone and see what happens...

Here's what worked for me... Had the same issue. The badge in iTunes on my mac showed 4 apps needed updating, but when I hit "Check for updates", it reported all applications were up to date.
So I checked the app store on my iPhone & the updates tab listed the 4 apps that needed updating. Rather than update them on the phone, I navigated to those apps in the iTunes Store on the mac & downloaded them one by one, ready for the next sync. The badge went away. But next week, the same problem.
WHAT SOLVED IT was simply logging into my account in iTunes on the mac. "Check for updates" now displays the apps & corresponds to the badge number. As suggested elsewhere on this forum, it might be an authorization issue that logging in fixes.
To log in: go to the Store tab and hit the account button in the top right corner.

N97 Application updater

Has anyone else experienced this problem. After Updating applications via the SW update app on the phone, a day or so later the installed updates disappear from the phone.
I installed the C: phone memory update, checked in installed apps and there it was.
when I checked the updater app a few days later it showed this update was available again. I checked the installed apps and it was no longer there. The same with maps 3.1

Maps 3.1 and C: Phone Memory update were offered to me but had installed them previously. They had vanished from the installed updates screen but are obviously there again now. Strange I agree.

Iphone applications update problem

in my itunes, the apps update icon keep showing me i have updates... example "23 updates available"
but when i clicked on the message, and gone into the update page, it will show me "no updates available. check again later"..., the application item on the left of itune still shows "23" as a number of updates i have,,
so i am confused, should i ignore the number? or what should i do?

i had tried the following:
- uninstall and re-install itunes
- uninstall, and remove all preference files, then re install itunes
- delete n move to trash ALL mobile applications in itune, and then sync with iphone n transfer applications over to itune
the last method seemed to work, as it shows the correct number of updates as my iphone.
but when i click on the update link in itunes, again its shows "no update available"
currently i am using iphone app store to update all apps

HELP needed! N97 Application Installation Problem.

Alright, here's my problem. My friend sent me a .sis program to install in my phone today. When I tried installing the program, it somehow occupied all my available memory in my phone memory (which is about 60MB before I attempt to install the application) and while not able to complete its installation. I suspect that it was a virus program or some sort because when I tried finding for the files in the phone memory through my computer, I failed to find any file which has that amount of size. My computer only shows that a total of 19MB files are contained in the phone memory but somehow I don't even have a single KB of space available in it. (it's hidden somewhere or some settings are altered i guess)
Please do help me in this issue. Any help would greatly be appreciated.

I've tried Y-browser and Xplorer but it seems that no hidden files is of that size. And about the anti-virus, can I have the specific name for the program?
It would really do me a great favor if you can tell me where does all the temporary installation files are located when installation runs its progress on the phone.
I've considered hard resetting but I'm unsure of the effect after doing so. Will it wipe out all my data and settings in both phone and mass memory (C: and D?

N95 Geocache Navigator application update problem

I have installed Trimble geocache Navigator SW to the N95 memory card. It is great program and has worked well many weeks. Later i updated it to the new version. All was working correctly few days. Then i noticed that i can't open the program at all. There was only icon but not any other files found or any other track related to that Nav? Of course i though that i have to update it again but reinstallation detected older version and asked to update to new one. Then i agreed that but installation stopped:" cannot install"? I didn't find any other logs or help messages for that.
After that i updated my phone Firmware to the latest OS version. Then Navigator icon was destroyed but the same installation problem was still there?
Then i found temporary solution. I removed memory card and installed Navigator to the phone memory. It worked without problem.
so how i can install the program to the memory card again? Is there some register file which detects the Navigator and which filemanager program i should use for that? Any other ideas?

N97 Software update problem

I'm trying to update the firmware on my phone, which vodaphone says is available to me.
Firstly, I tried on my phone,but it states that there is no update available, so thought I'd try to do it using my laptop.
I install the latest PC suite and SW updater, and when I connect the phone using a USB cable, PC suite picks up my phone. However, when I try to update the software, the SW updater can't find my phone.
Has anyone any idea what I should do?

Doesnt matter if PC Suite recognizes your phone. Some AVs wont even allow NSU to open even if you can use phone with PC Suite. Just turn it and your firewall off when you try to update the phone.

Application update problem

HELP!! I had to clear everything from my phone when I thought it was lost. Then I restored it from my backup on itunes. Now when I try to update ANY of my apps I get the message: This discounted price is only available to customers who own a previous version of this item. To purchase this item at full price click buy.
It's as if I don't have the apps on my phone at all but they do all work fine. Can't go any further bec. of this.
Then in itunes I looked for the updates and it shows that I have some but when I click on the arrow to get the updates it goes to the next page and says that all apps are up to date. Very weird. Hope someone can help bec. I can't find a thing about it!! :((

I seem to have cracked it!!
Well it has worked for me and I have just updated my first App through my iphone.
I deleted all Apps from iTunes, I deleted all Apps from my iPhone. I then went through the re-install process for my iPhone, this reinstalled the software and firmware.
I then synched my iPhone.
After all that I then downloaded all Apps I had previously to iTunes. You shouldnt have to re-pay for any you have previously paid for.
Synched my iPhone and so far so good. I updated an App and it seemlessy updated and remained in the position on my iPhone!
Maybe that will help. I had nothing to lose!!

I have a problem with my application update since i updated to iOS6

i am having a problem with my application update since i updated my iphonw to iOS 6. small updates are taking very long time and even not getting finished after several hours.
my internet connection is very fine and having good speed. i think updating to iOS 6 was a mistake....

Do a reset (Hold Sleep/Wake and Home buttons about 10 secs or more till Apple logo appears, ignore the Slide to Power Off that appears)

Missing application updater and nokia server profi...

Hi there fellow N97 owners. I've just joined this forum and need some help with 2 very frustrating problems with my N97.
1st problem is that I can not update the applications in my handset via the "SW update" which is supposed to be located in the Applications folder. That icon is not located in my applications folder.
The 2nd problem is that I do not have the "Nokia Server Profile" in the "Device Updates" which is under "Phone Management" This means that I can not update the firmware of my handset OTA.
I hope that someone on these forums can help me as I have searched all over this site and various other nokia/symbian sites and not found a single thread regarding these problems.
My N97 details ar as follows:

Custom version: 10.0.012.262.04

I have the same problem too, anyone know how to fix this?
