N97 are Nokia F\W updates cumulative?

Hi guys,
Now that there’s a buzz about another F\W update under testing and I was wonder if Nokia F\W updates are cumulative?
Ie. When they release a new F\W update, can we straightaway install the newer version although we haven’t installed its previous F\W updates and will it still provide all the bug fixes, enhancements they’ve released to date?
This is the story with Microsoft service packs, they are cumulative hence you can just install the latest SP and it will give you all the bug fixes and enhancements to date. Life is easy.
Any ideas guys?

yes they are all cumulative, always has been and always be. only difference you should be aware of is the update method. updating via NSU using your PC will download the whole ROM and install it to your phone, while FOTA only downloads the necessary components that need to be updated, hence being of a smaller update size. so to answer your question, say for example you had a N78 such as myself and had initial firmware version 10.136, you could upgrade straight to 30.019 without having to download and install 11.043, 12.046, 20.149 and 21.002 first. get my drift?
please throw some kudos our way, it would mean a lot to us
If you found this or someone's comments helpful or like what that person has to say, please give some Kudos to their post!

  • Are Adobe Flash Player updates cumulative?

It seems to be a difficult task to find the straight answer to the following question: Are Adobe Flash Player updates cumulative?
If I apply the newest existing Flash Player update (APSB15-02) to the bare-bone machine will this cover all previously disclosed vulnerabilities?
Is this the same for SCUP distributed updates? Can someone guide me to any documentation available? If I publish latest patch through SCUP will my systems be protected as if I would download it manually?
    Thank you in advance!

    Hello CrazyGonzo,
Yes, ALL Flash Player install files are cumulative.  Every release contains all previous features, bug fixes, and security fixes.  There is no need to install a specific version and then apply a patch to cover some security release.  Hope this answers your question.

  • Are we Beta testing the N97 for Nokia?

Because if i was given this as a beta release i would have told them what i thought, the current launch version on the N97 with V10 firmware is barely an Alpha release, this phone was a rush job thrown out on the market to coincide with the launch of the iphone 3Gs.
This is my fourth N series, N80, N95, N95 8gb (the best N series yet), and now this N97 what should be Nokia's flagship, but being stripped of apps and filled with Trial versions to please the accountants at Nokia.
Day one and it locked up twice, corrupted my contacts when synced with OVI, and ran down to less than 4mb on the C drive, day 2 i found the GPS was not working, it was a joke, walking down the road under a clear sky and it could not hold a signal lock, driving was worse barely holding a signal for a few seconds and as for sitting spinning it round for an age to get the compass to work........forget it id rather be lost than look like a **bleep**.
Deleting apps and reinstalling them on the mass memory frees up some space, but why should we have to do this, the whole phone is badly thought out and configured.
Soon after the stylus supplied with the phone and attached to the phones only tie point scratched my screen, what was wrong with a rear cover with a bump and a thin PDA style stylus, no not good enough for Nokia, a fat thing on a string will do for them.
New Firmware release 4 days after UK launch and still not available to most users as it has not been network approved yet, 3 network say its Nokia's job and they are delaying things, Nokia say its the networks delay. Come on if it was needed that quickly why leave most of your customers waiting, or just get to work on a layered OS with a standardised core with a network layer, so everyone can have the updated without waiting.
4 weeks in on this phone, i too have the scratched camera lens, still No working GPS, and having some good negotiations with Three to try to reverse the contact upgrade, as i don't think another N97 will last any longer than this one.
I see Nokia spending Millions on punting the N97, TV, Billboards, Net adds, why push so hard on what is a sub standard product, could you imagine Joe public trying to free off some memory by moving apps, tell the care centres to brace themselves the N97 flood will be coming their way.
What next, well if 3 don't cancel the upgrade, then Nokia will have to fix my phone again and again and again untill it works as advertised, in the mean time i am off to get in touch with watchdog so they can let Joe Public know what to expect from an N97.

I don't believe we're beta testing the N97 for Nokia. Beta testing suggests it is in a state prior to production. Nokia's track record (at least to me) seems that leading edge phones never reach a stable plateau.
What I believe happens is the phone is released and remains unstable until they sort of perfect the platform, then a new handset is released bringing a whole new world of bugs and problems and so the cycle continues.
By the time the phone is suitable for every day use it is, by today's technological stance, ancient and the damage has already been done to the reputation.
S40 phones seem to fare much better, mainly because it is much more widely used within Nokia. S60 is up against some fine competition from vendors who will rush fixes out.. Nokia only ever seems to rush phones out. It isn't the same and it shows (see their forcast for the next 6 months)
I honestly would not be surprised if this flagship phone limps on in a partially functional state until it is superceeded by a budget blackberry clone.
Sad? Very! Am I being cynical, or telling it like it is.
I'd be real interested to know if any exec at Nokia used the N97 in the weeks before it was released.. Not that I'm a fan, but we all know Stevie J used an iphone long before it was released.. I kind of get the impression they must all use very basic "corporate" s40 handsets and assume their flagship product must be of the same calibre.
Next release, why not give 100 people N97 for testing, real testing.  It seems Nokias quality assurance team is out of touch with what a $700 handset demands.. ooooh, I gasp in awe at your 30 MB of free capactity when you remove ALL the applications you can. (It's like having a 2TB hard drive in a computer and continuing to boot from a floppy)
I appreciate there are product time lines to meet, but if Nokia were aiming to compete with the likes of the pre, iphone and the various android handsets (not even mentioning windows mobile) rushing out a phone like this was very wide of the mark. Concept wise, the N97 is a great design.. the implementation of both the hardware and software just isn't going to cut it in todays market..
(but this is what they want? you'll get bored with the handset and buy a replacement! yeay!)

  • Are Adobe Updates Cumulative

    Dear All,
I'm sure this has been answered somewhere, but I can't find it. Basically, are updates cumulative: ie does the latest patch effectively have all the previous patches, so that I can miss an arbitrary number of patches? I assume they are, but thought I would check.
    Thanks.

For the patches that are still available on http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=1&platform=Windows you can select each update to see the previous version that is required for the update. That option is no longer available for 9 and earlier. If they cannot be updated from the Help menu, then you would have to download each update from the FTP site and install them in order. In such cases, you can speed things up by rebooting only after the last update. The updates can be combined, but that is only useful if you are updating multiple computers.

  • When is Nokia N97 mini getting an software update?

Does anyone have an idea when is the Nokia N97 mini getiing a software update after 11.0.045?

nokia dont give dates for releasing firmware you will just have to keep checking
and remember updates depend on region/product code and network,ie network has to approve the update

  • When will Nokia release software update programs w...

I am trying to update the firmware for my E71, as I understand the newest firmware is pretty decent and offers improved performance.
However, the programs which Nokia provide to do these updates simply don't work.
When using the update tool through the Nokia PC Suite, I get the classic 'configuration error' and I try all the suggestions it gives to no avail.
So, somebody suggests I install the Nokia Ovi Suite, as that has a software updater which apparently works.  It doesn't.  If I'm not getting an 'unknown error' (which suggests either to restart the Ovi suite and if that fails to reboot the computer - both of these result in the same thing happening again), then the Ovi Suite gets the Windows 'This program has stopped working' message.
Nokia - HOW HARD CAN IT BE TO GET THIS RIGHT???  You're supposed to be the market leader for mobile phones, and you can't get this right.  I now remember why I swore blind never to get another Nokia phone ever again after the bug-ridden monstrosity that was the N73.

If your phone is branded or locked to Mobitel or another serviceprovider, it might be that they haven't approved the update yet, as they are entitled to. It might also be that Nokia hasn't yet released the update for that region for all I know.
There are also special edtitions released wich may never get any update. Eg. Ramadan version.
In any case, it's a matter of waiting. And it seems that it's totally random if Nokia announces updates, though they have done with some of the bigger updates (n97 v20) or the big update comming for the N8.

It's known that Nokia Belle FP1 is available only for Nokia 603, Nokia 700 and Nokia 701 (and newer phones as well). Those devices that won't get the FP1 update are named '1st gen. S^3 devices' for all I know. That's what makes me say that Nokia 500 is a first generation S^3 device - because no massive updates will be available for it anymore.

My mobile's firmware version is as follows
    V 5.0609.2.0.1
    01-03-2006
    RM-84
I have an update for my firmware and that would be
    V 5.0638.2.0.2
Could you please give any additional inputs on the same.
thanx once again for the previous reply.
Did you try and summon some System Information in Nokia PC Suite? To do this, go to Help and click About Nokia PC Suite (sometimes just About...) Then, in the dialogue that appears, click the "System Information" button, and check whether either the "Cable Connectivity Drivers" or the "PC Connectivity Suite" is installed. One of those should be installed at least. If both show NOT INSTALLED, something is going wrong in the recognition of the signatures within the package. This is quite a bit of a technical explanation, but it comes down to the fact that one or more of the registry hooks aren't created in the right way, which would then cause Nokia PC Suite to assume the drivers not to be present.
By the way, can you use other Nokia PC Suite Applications without problems? I'd suggest you try Nokia Content Copier (menu item may be called Backup & Restore). If this application does work, then the drivers should be OK. If the phone isn't recognised at all, please try to connect the phone to a different physical USB port on the system. You might want to connect it directly to a USB port on the back of the PC, so as to rule out the problem being caused by any non-powered USB hub. Please note that ANY USB connector on the front of a PC is referred to as a USB Hub, because they are not located directly on the system's circuit board.
I'd think that, previously, you were able to connect the phone to any old USB port on your system, as you should be. The above step of connecting the phone to a totally different USB port is to check that there are no conflicts being caused by the sloppy way in which Windows sometimes tends to deal with USB Device Management. Windows detects each device on each USB port. This means that, should you connect a device to port A at first, it will be detected. If you connect the very same device to port B the next time, then it will be detected AGAIN, as opposed to the way *Nix deals with these situations: the device's connection parameters will be re-used, instead of the device driver being installed twice.
I'd suggest that, if you seem unable to use Nokia PC Suite at all (i.e. your phone is not recognised), you try to use a different port. If the problem still persists and you do have the option to use a different PC for this time, please try whether you CAN get NSU to work on that PC. If you don't have this option, and your phone becomes usable again but NSU still crashes, please post the EXACT message with which the system crashes, and state a crash type (i.e. BSOD, Microsoft Error Report, Nokia error code, etc...).
BSODs shouldn't be occurring in your case, as BSODs generally tend to be caused by genuine driver and/or hardware conflicts or issues with memory.
I hope you will be able to get on with what I wrote in this post; it seems to be really frustrating sometimes...Message Edited by csteelooper on 11-Feb-2007

The problem is that after updating my phone with version 8.30 the slide animation feature of my phone is not working. On slide open\close the picture set in the theme is supposed to appear but nothing appears.
Before the update this feature was working perfectly fine. i reported about this issue to nokia customer care also but they just advised me to wait for the next firmware i.e. v9.40 . As the new firmware released on my product code i again updated my phone's firmware and this time with version 9.40. Still it did not help me. The same problem persists . Please note here that nothing went wrong during the update . All other features of my phone are working perfectly fine .
Can anyone please help me on this issue??????

    Hi there,
The version 10.00 for the Nokia 5610 has been around since early July, so certainly it would be available for all countries in the APAC region.
Just make sure the phone is fully charged and backed up and you're set to update.

  • Nokia 305 not update

    Please update nokia 305

Is there a software update available for your device? If yes, are you having issues updating? If yes, any error message? Are you using the device itself or the Nokia Suite?
    (or)
Do you want Nokia to provide an update for the said device? If yes, we're afraid we do not have available information regarding the future software updates of the phone.
Upon checking, the latest update is V 7.42: http://developer.nokia.com/Community/Wiki/index.php?title=Firmware_change_logs_for_Nokia_Asha_(Serie...
If you do not have the latest software installed on your phone, it's best to check for it. You can either input *#0000# on the device dialer or go to Settings > Device > Device Updates.

    Hi Guys,
This my first post on this forum. So pl forgive me if this has already been posted elsewhere (i did look around before though)
Anyway, my query is: Can the nokia N95 be updated (firmware) OTA (either WIFI or 3G?)and how???
    Thanks loads folks.
    Cheers
    Fuzzy

No, unfortunately OTA updates are not available.
Most models have the ability to be updated OTA but the system is not in use.
Your only options for updating are on a windows PC using the nokia software updater or at a nokia care point.

As obsolete phones get older more and more services cease to function, this is normal and only to be expected.
They aren't disabling services just to make you switch because after all you are free to choose any brand you wish. The reason services are withdrawn is often when usage drops below a certain level that it is no longer financially viable to keep the servers running.
