N97 bugs on v11 firmware

After updating the firmware on my N97, there are bugs both new and old. I wanted to describe them to determine if they are widespread or if it might be an issue with my phone.
1. Landscape mode doesn't work properly. The top section of the screen rarely displays properly and instead usually shows a garbled mixture of the previous screen and the text or symbols from the current screen. This has happened since v10.
2. Yesterday the phone randomly lost all the folders and organisation from the menu. I think it happened after a memory full warning and me removing the battery to reboot the phone. It's never done this previously.
3. Sometimes after booting up, the phone will be keypad locked, and pressing the unlock button prompts the 'press unlock' message, but does not unlock the phone. This lasts for a few minutes.
4. If I'm using up all the RAM and receive a call, when I press answer or reject, it prompts the message 'request rejected'. This prevents the call being answered or rejected, and the flashing phone icon remains on the screen indefinitely until a reboot. Besides these there are also times when the phone locks up and requires the battery to be removed. I initially thought this might be due to low RAM availability, but I do not receive alow RAM warning.

to point 4. what applications are you using in the background? eliminate all apps that you do not need/are not currently using. it is worth investing in a best taksman that costs 1.99$ in ovi store or try y browser its free but also a bit more difficult to use it works just fine tho
 http://www.drjukka.com/YBrowser.html
it will help you with how much ram you have what apps are running and other process so you can better manage your phone. its a MUST epsecially for n97 as it has such poor RAM management and amount of it.
You know what I love about you the most, the fact that you are not me ! In love with technology and all that it can offer. Join me in discovery....

  • Nokia 5800xm v11 firmware bug...

Seems like the music equalizer & settings in Nokia 5800xm with a v11 firmware is sometimes not responding. This is happening sometimes when i keep changing the genres and settings while playing the musics. Stop responding means the equalizer or settings are not taking effect, for example, changing to Bass Boaster does not producing the bass effect in the music, or tuning the balance to the left/right but still playing on both sides of the earphone. exiting music player and re-entering it may have this problem fixed. So i guessed is a bug of the firmware v11.
Anybody face this problem on their 5800xm? Feel free to share it here too...

    Hi,
I had the same problem on the Nokia 5800: email wizard coming up everytime I switch on my phone.
I tried to create an email account through the 2 different apps, as adviced elsewhere, but without success.
Then I simply deleted the email app (the one with the little stars), and bingo!
The email accounts previously created are still here and working.
Now I'll wait for Nokia to fix their email app...

  • Nokia pulled Vodafone N97 Mini V11 Firmware?

    Hello everyone,
I've just checked with Jon, the latest is that we already approved the self service firmware, but Nokia have pulled it. This means that we're now moving straight to the next version (not sure what version this is yet) but Nokia have yet to send us the firmware so we can sign it off.
At the moment, we're waiting on Nokia, which I'm sure you'll agree makes a change
    Cheers,

Vodafone is claiming that Nokia has pulled the v11 firmware submitted by Vodafone, and that we have to wait for V12? Is this true? If yes why? If not this means Vodafone is treating its costumers very badly! All I would like to know is the truth. Why do we not have V11 yet?

User to user forum contact us button to ask Nokia .
Firmware is dependent upon product code .
V11 is available for lots of phones including at least three   vodaphone model.OZ and Brazil
Could be that Voadaphone have not yet released v11 for your phone   and have heard that a new release will make V11 redundant soon    Or they may not be telling the exact truth  who knows .Nokia do not pre announce firmware .

  • N97 bug 95% of time uses default ringtone when loc...

this bug is still there in new firmware.. and it has nothing to do with the image size or ringtone.. i have gone in via file manager and set the ringtone to a file on the c: drive.   and even when i get calls from people not in my phone book so it is not trying to load any images (except the default caller image which is also on my c drive) it plays the wrong ringtone.. mostly appears to be when locked which is most of the time since it autolocks and i lock it so that when in the case no buttons are accidentially pushed.. this needs to be fixed asap
    thanks..
is it only me having this problem.. and i did a reset so dont start saying thatl.

I do not have the problem.
I use MP3's as ringtones. I got a huge package of thepiratebay.org with like 900 ring tone mp3's.
I added photos, taken with camera and / or transfered from PC to most of my (often in use) contacts, and it works perfectly with both incomming and outgoing calls.
    I have the
    "Software version V 10.0.012"
    "Software version date" 15-05-2009"
    "Custom version 10.0.012.254.01"
    "Custom version date 27-05-2009"
    "Language set 33"
    "Model N97"
    "Type RM-505"
I can for some reason not upgrade to V11 firmware. I have no clue why, i am just toeld V10 is the most recent.
Replaced my buggy Nokia N97 with a HTC Hero.
Besides the camera and the real keyboard the HTC Hero pawned the N97 on every level.

  • N97 - BUGS BUGS BUGS !

    Hi,
I am an Indian IT Professional from Saudi Arabia. I recently bought an N97 and upgraded the firmware to v12.
BUGS BUGS BUGS... I seriously dont know when Nokia will grow and create bulletproof OS!
Following are the most annoying bugs/problems I have faced so far:
Sometimes the phone plays NOKIA ringtone for my contacts with assigned ringtones. This really irritates at times...
Need unlock 2 times to switch on background light... Y ?
A white screen on left hand corner if I use flash during taking photo... None of my night pics are clear because of this. I pay so much money to have a good phone from Nokia, and they have a camera flash which bounces back onto the lens!!!
Sometimes when I unlock, the touchscreen feature freezes, and I cant even restart by pushing power button! I finally have to pluck out my battery to fix the issue! That's pretty sad ! The best camera features are of N95!!!
When there's a flash, the persons eye bounds to have the RedEye effect! No matter even if I am in RedEye mode.
Sound output is soooooo less as compared to N95 !
Nokia releases new Symbian OS versions with new generations of mobiles, but sadly it still hasn't been able to embed the DIVX playing capability! Sad !
HomeScreen Widgets are so very limited! Home screen should be more edit-able!
I think making N97 a super-phone is a good move! But why in the world do they have such less Phone Memory and such less RAM?
When I get my phone out of my pocket when I get a call, the screen rotates when i try to slide my finger on ANSWER! It's so irritating!
A better headset should have been designed for N97!
There were no games (unlike 5800) pre-installed!!!
    Well? Is NOKIA LISTENING?

Sadly I had the problem of a delay of the alarm - 5 minutes - delay in the last 2 days.. I set up the alarm to 07:30 and it started 07:35 the following day I set it up to 08:00 and it started at 08:05 !!!
I had this problem earlier when I just got the phone, and unfortunately it came back again yesterday and today.
Another problem I had today - I disconnected the charger but the phone stuck, the light of the charging  did not go off and the phone was freeze - I had to take the battery our to re start it.
    Any advise ?
using Nokia since ages most recent were the 9300, N95 the E71, and since July 15 - a proud owner of the N97 - later switched to the N97 White

  • N97 Bugs

I have a Black N97 from mobiles.co.uk (CPW) product code 0587691, firmware version 10. No Updates available.
I have numerous bugs which the firmware update should fix most, but since it's not available to me are, there any work arounds?
    1) When making a phone call to my bank and only my bank the screen locks permanently and I can not bring up the dialler pad to enter my log in details. It also means I can not end the phone call (including all the hard buttons). And have to wait for a couple minutes before it sends me through to customer services where they can end the call for me.(It's pretty bad when a phone that can do most things well can't even make a phone call).
    2) When I unlock the phone the backlight does not come on, I have to lock and unlock again for it to work.
    3) Nokia maps does not display Satalite view. If I go to a major city then it takes a good 10-15 minutes for it to display. Does Nokia maps not have satalite views of the entire world, like google maps? Can I unistall Nokia maps and install google maps. I have already subscribed to the traffic alerts and half way through trial for drive and walk voice commands. Will this work with google maps.
    4) Accuweather does not refresh from homescreen (I know there have been a lot of threads on this already) I have to open the app, which occasionally it is frozen in which case I have to close and go through menu options then go to settings and done, before it will allow me to refresh. It usually finds GPS and loads data fairly quickly. But it freezes a lot. (I do not have a facebook app on homescreen)
    5) Facebook never works consistantl, although it's not doing it now, it comes up with a script error and I have to reboot to enable me to log in. Occassionally it forgets my email and password. (As I said above this is not on homescreen as a widget just a shortcut link)
    6) Backlight only stays on for 60 secs which is fine but when playing Sudoku on Extreme I take more than 60 secs to find the next number so the backlight keeps switching off. I know I can't have it both ways.
    7) I have a messaging shortcut on my homescreen when, I click this it takes me to the messaging app but only displays the scroll bar, the rest is still the homescreen. It stays like this until I scroll or click randomly on the screen then it refreshes correctly.
    8) Bloomberg occasionaly freezes on the splash screen and just displays the two monitors. I have to exit and log back in. I have to do this up to 4 times to finally log in. And the when I look at a particular stock, switch to sideways view and click the graph to display it fullscreen it rarely loads it and if I select something other than 1 year it will never load it. ie I can never view the share price for the last month in a graph.
    9) I installed n-gage and now I can't uninstall it.
    10) Why do I have to pay to view pdf's to view pdf's normally should be free and I would only ever expect to pay for it, if I want to edit them.
    11) When I try to select an app in the Ovi store it says login failure I have to repeated click it before it will allow me to view an app or download it. Even though it says I'm signed in at the bottom.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

Err, yes you bought an N97 all these "features" are part of the user experience for this phone. The system update to 11. whatever made some improvements so you should hassle the supplier of the phone to get you the upgrade. I am on Vodafone and don't yet have access to 12. update and Nokia have announced a V2 update for October with dynamic scrolling and a lot of fixes goodness knows when we will get this.
Nokia should really press the vendors to roll out upgrades quickly for this phone.

    2) If i try to refresy the library, it will not complete the process. (i.e. continuesly it will show refreshing and i have manuly stoped after 1 hour). and still no songs in all songs list.

    Ssandesh T S

For the radio problem, You may have to try to reinstall your firmware, or failing that, you may have to do a reset.
    For the music library:
    1. Connect your 5800 to you PC in Mass Storage Mode
    2. On your PC you will need to have allowed to “Show” hidden files, do this from Explorer/Tools/ Folder Options/ View and select “Show hidden files and Folder”
    3. Open your SD memory card/Removable Disk in My Computer on PC
    4. Go to E:\ Private there you will see 3 folders 101f8857, 101ffca9 and 10281e17 .
    5. Go to Private\101f8857\Cache\E there you will see .dat files. Delete all the .dat file BUT NOT the E Folder. Shown above right
    6. Now go to Private\101ffca9 there you will see another .dat file, Delete the dat file NOT the folder.
    7. Finally go to Private\10281e17 There you should see 4 files 2 are Mp3 files other are Podcast files. Delete mpxv2_2.db & mpxv2_2.db-journal for Mp3 files list and Delete pcv6_1.db & pcv6_1.db-journal for Podcast files list. Shown above right
    8. Close all windows and disconnect your Phone. Go to Music Library and it should automatically start a refresh.
If you find my post helpful please click the green star on the left under the avatar. Thanks.

  • Bug in new firmware 7.0 for 6300 cannot create per...

There is bug in new firmware 7.0 for nokia 6300 and maybe all 40 series.
I am not able to create access point which is necessary to access internet with java applications.
When I go Settings -> Configuration -> Personal config.sett. -> Add -> Access point (but also if I choose any other from list)
Then i go back and there is no new access point. In previous version of firmware it created access point.
Do anyone know about this issue ?
How can I tell to Nokia support that there is this bug ?
    thanx for replies

I went to local Nokia service, and they told me that probably it was wrongly flashed. So I reinstalled firmware two more time, but it always have the same problem. Is there someone with 6300 that have the newest firmware and can test this ?
    thank you
I will put this phone to service and see what they will do.

  • WRT610N - Bugs and new firmware

I installed WRT610N under XP (original firmware, no updating), runs well: Internet OK. Storage on 500 Mb Western Digital HD OK, FTP OK, WiFi OK, Media Center OK with PS3 (Twonky work well), DDNS is OK.
Considering that: FTP a bit sluggish, FTP autentication not possible (should be sorted out by firmware B10 ?!) , People says that with "B10" it is no longer impossible to get to Twonky through port 9000.
I ask:  anybody can suggest me if it is worthy to upgrade my Firmware with the latest "B15" dated 28th of Luglio ? Anybody knows anything ?
Moreover: other owners please keep in touch for info sharing, it seems the only way to get knowledge on it.
    Hugs

The die is cast. I have got it. When I bought it the manufacturer has not told me that USB support is crap. In fact it works, but with some bugs.Considering LinkSys Cisco is a mayor Company, I respect them and I count they sort out understandable bugs by updated firmware.
The router is also not cheap, therefore they have an obbligation to the consumers even though the post-sales service is prompt but not qualified (sigh). I forgive them because they have sooner or later to atone for their sins.
I was referring to the forum because the most qualified people who knows where to put hands are the guys like me, and better then me, the one who spend hours to get to the service who has been promised .....(sigh again).
So, I do not accept (respectfully) Your approach.
Anyone who likes to co-operate telling me what about latest July the 28th firmware ?
    Hugs

  • V11 firmware RAM issues...what worked for me

I think everyone that has upgraded to the v11 firmware has by now noticed the RAM issues in the v11 firmware for the N95 (At least in the European generic firmware).
The cause of this problem appears to be the 23 or so programs the firmware installs into the phone memory that are all related to the "Search" application on the phone.
I uninstalled them all and the RAM problems went away.
To get rid of them go to Tools > Application Manager and uninstall everything you see related to search.
While I was at it I got rid of Snakes, the System Rush game and the settings and welcome wizards.
Note that this will remove the Search application from your phone entirely so do so at your own risk.
An alternative is to move it to your memory card if you wish.
Useful links: Phone firmware update | Nokia support site

The problem you are having is a DNS issue.
Somewhere along the line your DNS address(s) became deleted from the network System Preferences for your 'active' connection (e.g Airport). It probably was set to default to your local (home) router.
This basically means that safari can not find the web site you attempt to load, so it waits for a very long time.
You can add in the DNS address(s) by either going to System Preferences / Network and selecting your active network connection / DNS tab. OR you can go to Safari Preferences / Advanced and then click the "advanced" button which will take you to the System preferences panel.
The DNS server is provided by your ISP in most cases, or you can use the "Open DNS" servers at 208.67.222.222, & 208.67.220.220.

  • N97 Bugs ant problems...

    Dear forum members...
I have been used N97 RM505 for couple of months.
I bought it brand new with 3 generations old fw.
My problems with the phone started then! Very disappointing and embarrassing for Nokia, to be honest.
Since I consider myself  "power user", I have never had smartphone  or  pocket PC so I could use it as phone or music player. I have always wanted to use phone as mobile computer so I aimed hi-tech products (7-8 years ago)  from manufacturers like HTC, HP...half year ago I fell in love with Nokia E71 smartphone, and that was my first Symbian powered gadget. I was very interested in how  "symbians" do it. And I was surprised how it worked. But, I wanted more. I gave E71 as present and decided to go for N97, flagship Nokia device.
And then, problems started to show up...
3 FW updates from that moment, and problems I have with this...device..do not disappear!
Same things happen all over again!
I read about particular issues and there are many of them, that's for sure.
My problem is simple: I have all of them!
Main camera works from time to time, after I answer the call I cant unlock the phone, freezes during boot sequence, left side of display in landscape mode dissapears, phone "kind of soft-restarts" every day or two and after that I have to reconfigure my email settings all over again, speed dial and favorite contacts lose pictures, contacts or group assigned ringtones mess up...
Phone has to be rebooted using "battery-pulled-out" method at least 3 times a day!
Tried everything: formatting, reinstalling device's FW, hard-resetting, FW upgrading...
Every time I format memory or hard-reset the phone i hope that will be last time!
But, nothing happens. Phone works well for a couple of hours. Phone call and it gets stuck, and i start all over again...when I come home.
I work as industrial automation software developer and, believe me, i know what "faulty device" means.
I know Nokia's origins, and I know that Finland is cradle of mobile communications, I have visited couple of companies in Finland that produce very reliable digital radio devices and I am familiar how professional they are up there...Every bug I have found in devices produced and developed in Finland was reported and problems were solved in couple of weeks or so! This does not fit in my experience with Nokia. E71 is outstanding device. I am sorry because I switched it for this "flagship phone" or, even worse, "mobile computer".
    Bottom line:
Phone is not reliable, especially if you want to use it as multipurpose device!
Calling this device  "Nokia flagship phone" is very wrong.
I am gonna wait for couple of weeks for new FW since it is not still available for rm505 officially, and after that I'll do something bad with this phone.
Technical support in my country is more than "unprofessional" and problem solving does not consist of turning off and turning on the phone or continuous reinstalling FW, as they do it.
My Question: Anything similar happened to anybody, and what I should do?
Thanks for advices. Forget technical support or local repair centre.
    Cheers!

    Yeah...
Thanks for the tips, carman58. I have already managed to try all different combinations and procedures for getting my phone to work including your recommendations.
As I told you before...after formatting E-drive, reinstalling phone software and hard resetting things went pretty well...until something happens. Week or two...day or two of heavy usage and I can't unlock device after phone call...Or main camera fails. Or, sometimes I just can't turn it on. White screen and stuff like that. 3-4 days before I decided to post on this forum I conducted procedure similar to the one recommended by carman58. I tried to conclude "critical amount of free space on C drive" that affects phone's stability. Phone works well (but I want it to work better than that) with 40-50 MB of free space on C drive. Anything below that level does not guarantee your phone will work well. Memory allocation may be the key...Not my job, just trying to conclude something logical.
I am not fan of third party software that watches RAM or CPU usage...Bad experience with Windows mobile devices, but I'll try to see somehow  if there's not enough memory when s**t happen.
And, yes...There are some apps that definitely do not free allocated memory after program is closed or even crashed. I am not going to name these apps, just want to know forum members experience with remote desktop management software compatible with N97. Hahaha!...In ths very moment I found out that my phone is not charging although it is connected to  the charger! Never mind...Maybe notification does not work.
Is there Nokia's official explanation for problems with N97? They can't deny problems. I mean, if you are not heavy user, or power-user....whatever....maybe you won't have problems we are dealing with?
And then, what's the point of 400MHz cpu clock, and great amount of RAM? It is there so we can watch video clips, take pictures, or surf the web? Yes but not all of that at the same time...
Multitasking is what devices like N97 should eat for lunch, if you know what I mean. Memory management should not be like this...3rd party apps for monitoring and flushing RAM. No way.
I know how hard it is to develop device that has all of these functions N97 has. So many hardware modules in such small housing, powered by such small power source...That's hell of a job!
If it is true, then my device should still have "beta" somewhere around "N97". I am not going to mention how much money N97 costs...
    Bugs antS problems...

  • Bug in WRT600N Firmware: password edit

I discovered a bug in the current WRT600N firmware. When changing the router's password, special characters appear to NOT be recognized, even though the router's error message lists them. For example, if I use a + (plus) sign the router complains. I had no problems with the WRT310N in using a plus sign as part of the password.

I'm getting very similar problems, with the situation not limited to files but to entire folders.
Used the web interface to create shares and created folders within those shares from both an XP pro box and a Vista box. Now, though both boxes can SEE the folders, neither can read or write anything within those folders.
Using the Web interface to create another new share makes a read/writeable share that works -- for what length of time I'm not yet sure.
This is with a new maxtor onetouch. Original files and folders worked fine, but now, completely broken.
I'm running the .35 firmware, too. This thing has other bugs as well.
DATE STAMP is wrong unless you leave time zone to GMT. For some reason, it reads system clock as GMT, and sets time from there.
Certain bits of the web interface lead to "page not found" errors, too.
Probably going to have to return this thing to the store, as this (non) functionality was one of the main reasons I spent the dough on the product. Doesn't work, back it goes.

  • Wish list / Bugs for E61 Firmware......

hi, just trying to see if this is a good way to feedback to nokia.....Feel free to endorse or add to the list....hehe
    Wish List
    1. A2DP
    2. Sip can use access point group
    3. Time of SMS to show sender sending time instead of receiving time.
    4. Can choose to search by 1st char of name in contacts
    Bugs
    1.

I just got my new E-61 yesterday. It still on ver 1 firmware. I bought it on ebay India, its product code is 0530151 (which I believe is a "Euro Silver"). Its a made in Finland piece having "english" and "nederlands" as the two languages. NSU shows updates available but I am scared to death to try that out (all those KB remapping issue scare me) and so I will wait till I am comfortable with the phone.
I notice a few bugs already
    1) I made a new profile but if I chose it instead of General, I lose out on having the date in Active Standby page. Considering that there are acres of unused space, its strange that Nokia will do it by design.
    2) The voice recorder button is very easy to press by mistake and there seem no way to stop these accidental recordings.
    3) If I chose Tools-Setting-Network-Cell Info Display as "ON", I am supposed to get my carrier supplied location text on the screen but it comes momentarily and then gets hidden due to the fact that bluetooth icon obscures it. Even if I keep bluetooth OFF, it still shows cell info part only momentarily. This looks like a bug to me.
    4) WLAN and GPRS connection don't close when I close the Nokia browser. Is this by design? In my earlier 6670 I was using Opera and there when I used to exit the connection will close automatically.

  • A Bug in Nano3 firmware 1.0.3 ?

I bought a nano3 on Dec 24, 2007. One week later I accidently found out that nano3 wouldn't work completely in about 2 hours while playing in "one-song repeat" mode. This is a BIG UNACCEPTABLE RIDICULOUS bug concerning main functions of an MP3/MP4 device which is sold at such a high price. I think Apple should provide firmware updates for this bug as soon as possible.

We know. It's been discussed in many threads over the past few weeks/months.
    Here's one such thread.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6122074&#6122074
Hopefully someone from Apple is reading this and will fix.
Nope. This is purely a user to user forum. Send Apple some feedback about this issue.
