N97 E: / Mass Memory disappeared!

I have recently purchased an N97 and it's worked fine, up to now.
A few days ago i turned it on, only to find that all of my photos and music were missing.
So I plugged the N97 into my PC to see where they had gone and my E: folder has gone.
The 32GB isn't on a memory card? There wasn't any memory card in the box when i purchased it, and besides, it was showing the 32GB mass storage up until a few days ago.
http://i443.photobucket.com/albums/qq157/frithleeds/n97.png
As you can see in the above link, there is no E: folder present.
How can I get the mass storage folder back?
Many thanks.

The 32gb mass storage is built into the phone and not a removable memory card. I have never heard of the mass storage disappearing and so don't know what to suggest. Resetting may work if it is software related but it could be a hardware problem as well, which unfortunately we can't help you with. Best thing to do is probably to send it to your local Nokia Point so they can check it out properly.

  • N97 mass memory dataloss

My friend has N97 phone with some memory problems.
This morning she had appr. 1200 emails (mostly headers only) and appr. 900 textmessages in
her phone. That all was in E: mass memory. It seemed like the amount of these messages
    slowered the phone.
I tried to help her so I reorganized her email account. I left emails of august 2009 in her "inbox" and
moved older messages to other folder. There was some 200 messages left.
    Then everything went wrong.
I opened her email account from her phone and the phone started to update emails. The phone
went totally jammed for a long time. And when I got it back again all textmessages had disappeared.
    900 important messages.
The phone works well and you can use E: mass memory but there is no textmessages there.
Please, can somebody help me? Is there any way to get this information back? She don't have any
backups (the phone is less a month old).
    Br, vvaino
PS. I copied all data from her phone in mass storage mode to my laptop, is it any help?
I also did backup with PC Suite.

    Hi n95a1,
It seems to me my case I wrote few days ago is one tiny part of the big amount of problems Nokia has with N97. Spending last days reading your messages about N97 there, in my opinion, are software bugs tightened together and causing multiple different problems to customers.
But I want to believe the new firmware 2.0 Nokia introduced in Stuttgart week ago will take step forward and gives us the phones we bought.
n95a1, down here you see the link to program might help you. It is from Mobile Overlord Psychomania written this site yesterday.

PS. My own N97 is working quite ok, not having any major problems.

  • Deletion of messages stored on mass memory on N97

Hi - I was wondering if anybody could help please ?
I've got a N97 which I've had around 180 messages in my Inbox and Sent Items which used the mass memory (E drive) to store the messages on.
I did a backup of the device on the phone via the File Manager application, and did a reinstall of the firmware.
Although the reinstall of the firmware didn't touch the music stored on the mass memory it appears to have deleted the messages I had stored, and unfortunately the backup doesn't appear to have stored the messages ...
Does anyone know if there is anyway of accessing/retrieving the messages which should hopefully still be on my E drive please ?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Edward

Ok, I had to try it out.
    1. I had 1 message on C: and did a backup in filemanager. It backed up on F: on default. - I deleted the message on C: and restored the backup. My message got back.
    2. If I deleted my message on C: and had 1 message on E: and did a backup - it also stored the backup on F: by default. - I set my message memory to E: and restored. - No message to see. - Cause it told me it would restore the backup to phonememory (C: ). I changed the messagememory to C: - but could not find any message.
As I can see, the backupprogram only backs up messages from C....

  • Can't slideshow photos on mass memory N97

    Hi,
I have copied many photos to the mass memory (N97) hoping I can view them whenever I need. I have been struggling but so far couldn't figure out how to slideshow photos stored on the Mass memory?
Since the phone memory is pretty limited, I avoid copying or storing photos there and use the folder Images on mass memory instead.  I am not even able to use screen slide to flip through the photos and of course no thumbnail so I have to manually open and close each photo!!!
Any suggestions will be most welcome and appreciated.
    Regards,
    Ahmed

Are you viewing them through the gallery or the file manager? File manager will not allow you to swipe or play slideshow. You do that in the Picture Gallery or the Nokia PhotoBrowser application.

  • [N97] Can't see apps installed on Mass Memory(E:)

Don't know how but suddenly all applications installed on Mass Memory (E have disappeared from 'Applications' . Can someone please guide what causes this and how it can be fixed ?
    -Thank

You could try defragmenting and repairing on computer usin Tools first, connected in Mass storage, but unfortunately, as usual, The Peoples Champion is probably right !

  • N97 - copy messages from C to mass memory

Yesterday I transferred all my texts to the mass memory, however while connected to the phone in mass storage mode on the computer today I got a text through which I read and as a result it stored it to the C drive. How can I put this text onto the mass memory with the rest of them?
    N97 11.0.021

    I finally found a way:
Select the phone memory (c location were your messages are stored.
Open Messages in pc suite and select all messages from your inbox
Export them to a csv file on your pc
Now change the location to mass storage on your phone
Refresh pc suite and you'll see the messages in your mass storage
Create a new folder in My Folders f.e. Inbox
Select this folder and choose file - import and select the file where you saved your messages from your phone memory.
Now transfer the messages from your my folder inbox to your inbox.
Now change the location to phone memory on your phone
Refresh pc suite and you'll see the messages in your phone memory again.
    You can now delete them.....
It's a bit time consuming, but it works!

  • N97 Firmware update - E: Mass memory 100% full -- ...

    Help!!!
I just did an firmware update on my N97 to v11.2.021 and when the phone restarted I got a message that E:\ (mass memory) is completely FULL.
And my F:\ (a 1GB memory card) shows corrupted. **bleep**!?? I'm glad I didn't store anythign important there.
I looked up via the File manager and sure enough, the E:\ (mass memory) show 0 MB free. I opened it up.. but I can't quite tell what's takign up all the space.
I see a few weirdly named/weirdo character filenames.
Can somebody please help?!! Is there a way to roll off the update?!

Okay.. here's what I've done. The phone was working alright after the update (maybe just a tad slower) and I didn't notice any other issues except for E:\ filling up.
After a while.. when I'd use File Manager in the phone to browse to E:\.. I got a (memory corrupted) message. So my E:\ was pretty much done/gone.
So I did the hard reset *#0730# and then from the File Manager.. did a 'Format Memory' on E:\ and this cleaned E:\ up.
BUT... all my pre-loaded US map data is now gone. The lady at the Nokia Flagship store had told me the N97 came with pre-loaded US maps. They're all gone now.. oh well.
But i'm still effin annoyed that the update didn't work though.. so Nokia still gets a thumbs-down in this department.

  • N97 Mass Memory

How do I select the mass memory to be used rather than the phone memory?
I cannot download the software updates because of this as it tells me theres not enough memory on the phone?
    Any help appreciated!

hhhmm and i thought i was doing great with  21mb lol
i tried what you suggested but it didnt change, although when i originally changed the messages to E: drive i was given the option to save them on C: which i didnt. when i changed it back to C: drive  there was no messages saved, so i put it back to E: and they were there again. cheers for the help tho
i still have'nt deleted all the apps and reinstalled them on E: as suggested in the link you gave b4 tho, so i guess that will free up more when i get round to it
on a side note, my email is saying i have 292 messages lol, these arnt stored on the phone are they? im guessing they are stored on hotmail and just the link to them is on the phone? if im wrong i can see that taking up alot of memory
    cheers

    Hi
I'm sorry, I dont' have any good news.  I'm not experienced in this technical aspect but I gather there is little you can do if the mass memory is wiped.  The only thing I can suggest is that you back up regularly, so this doesn't happen again

  • N97 - lacking phone memory

As you know, the Nokia N97 has two memories: mass memory 32 GB, and phone memory (about 70 MB). My phone permanently lacks the latter one. Long time ago did I uninstall almost all the applications installed by default for an unknown reason in the small phone memory. I don't keep SMS's there. When I check the files manager, it says I have more than 60 MB of "other files". I can't localize them either using phone's files manager, or pluging the phone to my computer. What are those "other files" and how can I free my phone's memory?

Have a look at the link below for suggestions on how you can free up some phone memory.

  • E: Mass memory

I had a problem with security code. Trying to find a solution and I found the following : ,,1-shutdown the phone 2-start the phone again after one second and keep push volume down + camara + home and wait for 5 second.the phone rest them self ...... thats all and good luck.'' I did it, then enter new code but the problem was not resolved. I had no maps and Nokia store after that and some games were not here. So I reinstalled Nokia Belle. Maps and Nokia store returned but games disappeared and Mass memory is 5.8 GB as it was with the games but in this case the games are gone and how memory can be the same as with the games ? And one more question I have memory in laptop even when I update Symbian ^ 3 with Anna and Can I get it back the backup on Belle in order security code get it back to default 12345 is it possible this to perform ?

    Hi akeovi,
You  are better off formatting your memory card and re-downloading your games from Nokia Store. As some applications have not be optimised for Belle, they will not run and be recognised by the device (even though it is in your memory card). You can check the applications you have purchased or downloaded from your history in Nokia Store.
Also, you might want to read the FAQ here and under "How to update to Nokia Belle".
    Hope this helps,
    Regards,
    haZey

  • N95 8GB v20.0.016 - mass memory failure #3

For the third time my N95 8GB has managed to corrupt its mass memory ("mass memory corrupted") - only this time, I am unable to reformat it at all!
The problem behaviour is as follows:
Used the phone last night to take several pictures, accessing the Gallery at one stage to find and delete one picture. This afternoon I look for the photos to review, and the '200902' folder (images for February) on the mass memory has no subfolder and is empty. However, I DO have a video saved on the phone from the 7th of February!
This afternoon I am able to take as many pictures as I like and they are saved correctly in the gallery and the 200902 folder. I had used about 5.2GB of the mass memory at this point. (It may be worth noting that I would occasionally get the message 'Gallery: Memory full' whilst browsing the gallery, but never at any other time).
At this stage, the mass memory is still fully populated, so I thought it would be best to cut my losses and take a full phone backup. The backup process fails, with an error along the lines of having lost connection with the phone.
I check file manager to see what's going on, and the following message appears on the memory card page: "(no data)".
All previous times the handset corrupted its memory, the trigger seemed to be a reboot of the handset. (Contents were lost upon returning to File Manager after a reboot). Having not rebooted the phone at all in the last 24 hours, I was surprised that the memory card contents had apparently disappeared without any application being launched and apparently no new data writing attempts being made. Perhaps the read operation for the backup caused the failure? But this still does not explain how all my February photos were deleted.
Without any obvious way of getting to my files, I rebooted the phone, returned to file manager and was greeted by the familiar: "(mass memory corrupted)".
As mentioned previously, when this happened before I was able to format the memory via Menu -> Tools -> Utilities -> Memory -> Format. This time, I receive the message: "Mass memory is in use by other application. Continue anyway?". I select 'Yes' - but the handset simply returns to the memory screen and "(mass memory corrupted)". This still happens even after a reboot.
I have performed 'Factory settings' reset via the phone menus, a 'hard reset' via code *#7370#, a format by holding *, 3 and the call answer button whilst powering on the phone - none of these prevent the 'Mass memory is in use' error from occurring. I have also attempted to format drive E (mass memory) but this just returns an error code. When I attempt to upgrade the firmware, the process fails every time after ~3 minutes saying that the connection with the phone has been lost (the warnings about upgrading do state that the mass memory should NOT be encrypted, so I presume that it being inaccessible is equivalent to this).
I cannot see any way to format the 8gb memory so that I can make it usable once more! The phone was not dropped or damaged in any way in the last 24 hours, yet it seems that something must have physically changed inside it?
The only parallel I can draw between this incident and the previous one is that both times, the memory was around 2/3rds full (around 5.5GB). I am wondering if perhaps the FAT table outgrows itself and dies?
My 1 year warranty expired 3 weeks ago - I am hopeful my network operator will be able to provide a replacement and that this phone just has a 'bad' memory chip - it really is a superb phone barring this infuriating corruption problem mine seems to have!
If anyone could shed any light on a solution it would be much appreciated
    Thanks,
    Alex

In the end my operator agreed to replace the handset for me after a lot of to-ing and fro-ing. In my opinion the problem was caused by a faulty memory chip.
    Alex
p.s. - the old handset was sent to the operator for repair and they were unable to repair it, only offer a refurbished replacement. With the greatest of respect, it's good to know my case is not unique!

  • N97 mini phone memory

    Hello,
I have a N97 mini which i like but it started coming up with memory error messages and saying i needed to close applications, also the max amount of text i could have on my phone was 85. i have unistalled most of the pre-installed Apps which has free'd up some memory space on my phone. the memory messages have stopped now but i was wondering if there are any other files i can delete to free up even more space on the phone.
I currently have 223MB free on my phone. is this a good amount ? or can more be found ?
    thanks

One problem that I had after phone crashes on the N97 mini was that some of my settings changed causing data to get stored on device memory instead of mass memory.  The two biggest culprits were messaging and podcasting.
Check your settings for both of these programs to make sure that they are not saving to device memory.
You can also go to settings/phone/application settings and check all of your applications to see what memory they are using.
If, like me, you are syncing with an exchange server and have hundreds of contacts, hundreds of calendar entries and thousands of e-mails, it won't take long for your device memory to get maxed out.  That will cause problems running basic tasks.

  • N97 - Prompt for memory location when installing a...

    Hi,
When installing applications on my previous N95 / N73 the installer would prompt me to make a decision on whether I wanted to install the application to the Phone or Mass Memory.
My N97 appears to automatically make this decision for me, and from what I can tell appears to be defaulting to the Phone Memory.
Is there a way to make the N97 prompt for the location like the N95?
    Thanks
    Iain

Disabling UAC does not fix the problem.  UAC is there for a reason.  Disabling it just stops the prompt which results in an installation failure (Access is denied). Its like sticking gum in a lock because you don't like putting your key in it everytime
you want to open the door.  The gum does solve the problem of not having to put the key in but the result is that you are no longer able to open the door.
The idea of IPP is that anyone can install a printer without having admin rights from any internet connected location.  Its shouldn't be difficult to install.  It certainly appears that the issue I am having has to do with differences in the OS
somewhere between 2003 and 2008.  Maybe even the version of IPP that is built into each OS version.  I'm just hoping someone an confirm this theory.  If it doesn't work right in 2003 then at least I know and I can stop wasting my time figuring
    out why it doesn't work.
I should probably also mention that our clients are Windows 7.  Its possible that the combination of Windows Server 2003 and Windows 7 is where the problem comes in.  When I get time I will try to load up a Windows XP machine and see if the results
    are different.
