N97 email account setup issues

I just got a new n97 with virgin mobile. got the latest virmware and nokia email software installed. when setting up my first email address, it kept giving me "invalid e-mail address" error. any help?

Hi, not all email services are compatible, however most are and I haven't had a problem with Virgin mail, hotmail or Ovi mail. I  just use the standard email setup and don't bother with mail for exchange or nokia messaging, personally I deleted them ( partly to save space on C and partly because standard setup works fine for me)
If you remove any mailboxes from optons-settings in messaging, then go to E-Mail, should get option 'no mailbox defined' define now. Just choose E-mail-Use my e-mail address and then carefully type in address and then password and it should work fine, if not, google ' how to set up XXXX.com on N97 !
Hope this helps
Good Luck

    Hey there Fabian,
If I understand correctly you are going to Settings > Mail, Contacts, and Calendars > Add Account but that last option is not usable because it is gray. In testing this for you, I was able to reproduce this by enabling Restrictions and denying Account Changes. You can configure that with this article:

  • Struggling with POP email account setup

I'm struggling to get my POP email accounts setup on my new iPhone. Seems like a great device, but without email, it's useless to me.
I've setup these same 4 email accounts dozens of times on different computers. I've entered all the Host names, passwords, and advanced settings (for the first email account). I have two problems. I can't send from any of my email accounts. One is a POP3 account and my primary email on my iPhone. I seem to receive messages but cannot send. I have two SWBell/Yahoo accounts which can receive, but won't send.
Second problem is that I'm trying to setup a 4 account which is a POP account, but it won't let me set this one up. It keeps coming back with "Cannot Connect Using SSL". If I say "Yes" to the question about trying to setup without SSL, it just goes away for a couple of minutes working, then gives me the same error.
Surely I can't be the only one whose having these problems. Thanks in advance for any help!!!
    Regards,
    Ross

For the first 3 accounts the ISPs probably block SMTP connections from outside their network. The test of this is if it works connected to your home WiFi network (if you have one) but not on EDGE. Note also that the SMTP username/password on the iPhone says "optional", but it is actually required when off-network.
If you are not connected via WiFi you can use AT&T's SMTP server when connected via EDGE. It is cwmx.com, and does not require a username or password.
On the 4th account you haven't given any real information to help you. Assuming you have all of the server names correct you probably have the wrong encryption method. You mentioned SSL, but it could also be TLS or NTLM (or others that are not supported by the iPhone). Also, if it is a MS Exchange account the server may not be configured to support IMAP, which is required form the iPhone connecting to Exchange.

  • Having issues emailing photos. an active exchange account is already setup. however when i click on a photo in my library and try to email, it prompts me to email account setup screen. my default account is setup for exchange.

  • Email account setup failure

AT&T 8310 Curve - I have one e-mail address set up and working fine: IMAP
Trying to set up a slightly more complex one fails.
The differences with the second account are:
    It uses SSL.
The mail server is NOT the same as the domainaname in the e-mail address.
The username is NOT the same as the part before @ in the email address.
The email address is: [email protected]
    Server is  mail-amer.isp.com
    Username is: ABC123
    Service is IMAP/SSL
So, when I try to "Set up an existing account" -- web/pc (but same result from BB).
I enter email address [email protected] and password.
This fails, as I would expect. I then choose the option to provide the details myself.
    I enter:
    Username: ABC123
    Password: ******
    Email Server: mail-amer.isp.com
    Email address: [email protected]
It tries to set up, but fails.
I am assuming that it will try SSL - Port 993 since I can't specify this.
    It should work, but doesn't.
The text on the setup form worries me. although I selected ISP POP/IMAP the form is entitled "Set up existing Outlook / Outlook Express account" -- Which is NOT what I am trying to do.
Similarly, the comments under the entry fields seem to be wrong.
For username it says "(e.g. jdoe or [email protected])"  -- well, my username isn't the first part of the email addr.
Anyway - whatever - it fails to work.
Of course, there seems to be no way to contact anyone with a clue to get this set up ... any suggestions are welcome!

when it fails ( you can make it fail by providing wrog password): Choose this is my work email account -> I will provide the settings to add this email account   -> in the server name try using IP address: 216.126.204.65 ( this is what came when i used 'mail-amer.isp.com', is its diferentmail server, get the correct IP address) and then also make sure the user name is correct (it could be 'jdoe' or your full email address, try both).

  • Email Account Setup - Provider Identity Not Verifiable

Hi, today I completed a hardware upgrade at Rogers from BB Bold 9000 to BB Q10.
I successfully setup my Hotmail account.  However, in trying to add another account (POP3) it does not complete and displays "Provider Identity Not Verifiable"???
Rogers technical support is not helpful at all.  They said it is probably a server issue, but my Outlook 2010 is receiving email just fine.
Can anyone help me please!  Thanks!

I located a BlackBerry document that provides the solution for adding a POP3 account.

  • Email Account setup

HELP! My company will not allow my Blackberry to directly access my email account. I can access through the Internet. I have the https address of the website and have all the passwords etc but I cannot seem to get my Blackberry set up. Can someone help me get through this?

    Welcome to the forums jfricker
I'm not sure I fully understand what you mean. Is your phone provided by your company and is connected to the companies email address using blackberry enterprise server (BES)? I don't use BES but it is my understanding that the IT people can restrict your phone in any way that they choose, even preventing email setup for personal accounts. Normally, you would access your phone provider's Blackberry Internet Service (BIS) site and setup email over here after registering your device. Check out this link to access your carrier's BIS site as well as how to setup email: http://na.blackberry.com/eng/support/blackberry101/setup.jsp#tab_tab_email

  • Email account setup problem with Messages app

Having recurring problems lately with a Rogers pop3 email account not syncing properly in the Playbook Messages app, unless I'm on a wifi connection. Continually tells me it's encountered an unexpected problem connecting to the Rogers server when only bridged through my phone. Is something screrwing up, or is the app designed for wifi only? I don't recall this problem originally.
Also having all kinds of fun setting up the account and having it complete the process properly. It tells me it can't connect with the server/it's not available at this time, blah blah blah. Tried just entering the email address and letting the tablet do its thing; have used multiple settings in the Advanced setup, as verified by using the EVAT tool (though it seems to only have PC, not Playbook options). Again, maybe this is just a wifi-only issue(?), but even on wifi setup seems iffy.
    Duh

Rogers has different setting for home and mobile use and it can be painful to deal with
Basically they lock it down for one use or the other and not for both.
It was inteneded to be used only with your home PC and not a mobile device and some ISP have made changes to allow it
POP protocol isnt that robust and if possible use IMAP or better to use exchange active sync if possible (not all ISP use IMAP or EAS)
I gave up on it and switched to outlook.com

  • Email Account Setup Failed: "Update Failed"

    Hello,
Firstly, I am aware that there is another post for the Storm with a similar issue, and they have come to some sort of conclusion. However, here is my problem....
I have a BlackBerry Bold 9700. I am using the Email Setup wizard to add an existing email account to my phone.
I have made sure that I am using the correct setting and my email address and password are correct (I can use them to log in to my webmail).  When I get to the "Email Address" and "Password" it says "processing, please wait" for about 3 minutes and then says "update failed".
I have checked my domain/hosting website for support and they have instructions for adding email accounts of this type to the BB9700 linked below....
    http://123-support.co.uk/support/answers/how-do-i-setup-email-on-blackberry-1170/
It appears that I cannot get past the initial address/password screen to enter my POP and IMAP settings.
Any help would be excellent, if my Blackberry cannot set this up, I will grudgingly get rid my my BB and get something else that will be able to do this, as its a business email address that I need to set up and have access to.
I have already set up a Hotmail, GMail, and one other web based email account on my BB using the wizard, currently I only have GMail and the one other webmail account on my BB as Hotmail was no longer required, so I know that this should be possible as I have been able to set up this type of account before and also going on my domain/hosting support, there is specific guidelines for setting up email on BB9700.
Any help would be great as I am stumped...
    Cheers for having a look....
    James

If you don't get the "enter data manually" option like I wasn't, try entering a bad password.  That was the only way it would give me the manual setup option.

  • Bold 9900 Internet email account setup

I've look at a lot of post on this subject but no luck.
I have just taken delivery of a Bold 9900 and put in my EE sim (UK). Out of the box phone upgraded to 7.1 Bundle 2061 and everything seemed to go OK.
Phone, texts, wifi, browser all work fine.
Trying to get it to link to my hotmail account and no luck.
Setup - Email Accounts - just asks me for enterprise account details which I don't have.
Go into email icon and select options, email account management, get the message "unable to open email set-up application. Contact service provider" which I did an dthey said its a BBerry problem. (helpful)
Tried to go to www.blackberry.com/integrate and mobile.blackberry/com/integrate as I've seen in a few logs and I see nothing pointing me towards Communications which I think is what I'm meant to be looking for.
Bit lost now. Any help would be appreciated.

Sorry to tell you, but they fobbed you off. Refer:
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/Social-Lounge/How-This-Site-and-Formal-Support-Work/td-p/2540...
Regardless of if the problem is with EE (which I suspect) or with BB, EE remains your sole channel for formal support on the matter. If they cannot resolve it, then they must escalate formally to BB via channels to which only they have access. Consider -- you pay EE for all of your services, you pay BB directly nothing at all. EE is responsible for all of your service delivery, and all of your formal support, even if that means they need to escalate to BB to resolve your issue.

  • Outlook mail account setup issues

I just bought a surface pro3 and installed office 365. When I go to open Outlook and create an account it gives me the following error.
"The connection to Microsoft Exchange is currently unavailable. Outlook must be connected or online to complete this action".
I have installed the same account on a pro 2 with no issues.  What is causing the problem?

    Hi,
This problem can be that we need to specify the domain we want to connect to and we don't have a field to do that in the settings dialogs forms available in setting up accounts in Outlook 2013.
Please try the following steps to solve this issue:
Close Outlook if it is running
From control panels - select the User Accounts and Family Safety item, then the Mail (Microsoft Outlook 2013) item and then the Email Accounts option.
Select the Email tab and click ‘New...’ button to create a new email account
Choose the standard Email account option in the following form. (Not the 'Manual' option')
Enter your Exchange account details - no alterations necessary here. Just your standard details.
As the account verification proceeds you are prompted to again enter your username and password details. In this form, instead of using the top option with your username already populated, click the lower 'Other user' option and enter your domain\username
details. (Note domain and username are separated by a backslash (\) character This changes the domain. Enter your password as usual.
I was prompted to do this twice - same each time. Enter domain\username in the username field and usual password
    Account is then created.
Open Outlook to complete the process and synchronies data with Exchange.
Hope this will be helpful for you.
    Best Regards.

  • How can I access advanced settings during initial email account setup?

Having just bought an iPad Air, I've tried to setup my email account (with John Lewis) on it during the initial startup process and repeatedly failed, both with SSL on and off. I imagine that I need to change the port settings or some other advanced parameter, but I can find no way of accessing them. It looks simple once you have the account set up but obviously that is of no help here. I apologise if I am being dopey but this is my first experience with an Apple product. Thanks for your help.
