N97 firmware update 21.2

The update seems to be great with the following exeption:
It has rendered the music player almost unusable!
With the previous music player, you could press the "Back" button and it would take you to your list of music or podcasts.  Now the  "Back" button just dumps you all the way out to the phone's home screen (just like the end button.)  Now, in order to go to your playlist you have to "options", "go to music library", "albums (or podcasts or playlist etc)"  then find the album or playlist you were playing, then find your song or track. That's 5 more steps than necessary.  The back button is very inportant with the way this media player was designed.  You can't just eliminate it in such a way.   What good is the improved scroling in the music player if you take away our ability to navigete.
This would be such an easy fix. Just make the Music player's "Back" buton do what it used to do instead of duplicating what the "end call" button already does.
The media player on a device is very inportant.  The one on this device is very ordinary. But i put up with it because I am a loyal and very very patient nokia user.  I waited 8 long months for this update. And now you just took my media player away.  You are very close to making a 12 year nokia user switch to Android.  Nokia, please give me back my "back" button. and don't make me wait a long time for it.
Thank you.

I disagree totally. I am very happy with the change in behavior going from v12 to v21. The new back/hide behavior in the music player does mimic the N95 more closely which is more familiar to me. It allows me to exit the music player while music is playing and multitask more efficiently than before.
First, this must be a bug, nobody whos developing software can be so stupid to do this intentionally!
Second, if you want to exit the music player while music is played (this means HIDING and not EXITING!) you just press the red key, like on any other Nokia. the back key has currently the same function as the red key always had.
Third, you can have five softkeys on the screen in both landscape and portrait mode, so whats the problem just changing one empty softkey (eg. the one below "Back") into a "Hide" key and restore the back button functionality? There is no problem, its very easy.

Hi,
I agree it's an annoying bug.
However, this only occurs if you access 'Music" through the homescreen widget. If you access "Music" through the normal menu & go to Music Library, then press back, you won't face this issue.
As it was mentioned before, this bug was introduced (I believe by mistake) in v20. It will surely be solved out in future firmwares. In v21, it was not solved.
I tested the behavior after i read the first thread about that bug. After adding the music player widget i can't get this bug away anymore. Already did a softreset, a halfreset and a hardreset but nothing helps
I never noticed the bug before because i was always using the player shortcut on the homescreen.
EDIT: god damn buggy lithium **bleep** (this "forum")

  • Next N97 firmware update?

It has  been ages since I got my N97 and yes we all know that Nokia admitted that it was a complete failure as a phone let allone a flagship but still they could help in removing the bitterness from us a little bit.
It has been ages (or it seems so) that the N97 got a firmware update. I mean the 5800 got one recently for Christ's sake!!!
I am really hoping that an update (a really GOOD AND MAJOR ONE ) is around the corner.
Is it possible to get an expected date Nokia?

I wouldn't hold out much hope.  And if/when the update is released, there will be a further delay before your network deigns to pass it on (unless you have an unlocked N97) ...

  • N97 Firmware updates but Ovi suite and SW update t...

I have updated my firmware to the version 11 twice now. Once using the Ovi suite and once using th PC Suite Software  updater. When I go to the SW update app in my N97 it still says "Phone Software - Important" but the details just say it's the same firmware update I've already gotten. I'm thinking this may hinder my ability to get the new NGAGE, Maps, etc. updates. How do i fix this?
    Thanks for the help!!

try this *#7780# default code is 12345 you will not lose any data, you will have to reset your settings possibly. and then turn the phone off for few minutes. turn in back on , go to the software update in the application folder and refresh the avaliable updates by going to options on the left hand side. see if this will help any
oh and btw you have updated your phone you can check this by *#0000# pluging this in if it is v11 you are good to go

  • N97 Firmware update v2 bricked phone

I own an unlocked N97 in the UK, and after waiting discovered that the v2 firmware has finally been released!
So, I backed up my phone, installed the firmware update (which completed successfully) and the phone rebooted itself.
It booted fine, and then the annoying email wizard popped up and the 'phone stopped responding.  I left it for 15 or so minutes to see whether it would start responding to unlocking etc and it didn't.  I tried switching it off using the power button and, as I expected, it didn't even register that I'd pressed the button.  After a couple of minutes of messing around with it I removed and replaced the battery and switched it back on... now it just sits on the white screen with the blue Nokia logo, no sounds, nothing.
I have tried leaving it to see if it finishes the boot process (after half an hour it's still sitting there...), I have tried taking the battery out for 10 minutes before trying to turn it back on and the same thing happens.
Anyone got any ideas, or is this going to require yet another replacement handset? (given that this is now the second N97 I'm on...)
Out of the two N97 owners in this house, we've now had 5 N97s between us, I can't say I'm impressed.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Hard reset the phone using the keys and you should be fine.
Turn your phone off AND simultaneously press these four buttons circled in red.

  • N97 Firmware Update - What's Working!

I've installed the firmware update v11.0.021 dated 15-06-2009.
Here a brief report on what I've found working so far on a black Euro model which I'm using on the Optus network in Australia.
    1) Long key press now working to select a number on virtual keyboard
    2) Backlight still iffy - sometimes it is working with one full click of the lock switch instead of two or three clicks.
    3) Voice command working after a soft phone reset with microSD removed.
    4) Signal strength appears to have improved as I'm now showing 2-3 bars in a bad reception area that previously only ever registered 1 or none.
I'll add to this as I discover other things.

    Hi all
When is this firmware getting out to the rest of us? I have decided not to use this phone untill I get it updated coz I was begining to hate it, kept crashing on me, I have already put pen to paper so Orange own my a?@ for the next 18 months.
C'mon Nokia you promised us an iphone killer, made us wait for months then go and deliver a half baked phone, what happened this time??
I turned down the Iphone for the N97, so please get it up to speed.

  • N97 Firmware update - E: Mass memory 100% full -- ...

    Help!!!
I just did an firmware update on my N97 to v11.2.021 and when the phone restarted I got a message that E:\ (mass memory) is completely FULL.
And my F:\ (a 1GB memory card) shows corrupted. **bleep**!?? I'm glad I didn't store anythign important there.
I looked up via the File manager and sure enough, the E:\ (mass memory) show 0 MB free. I opened it up.. but I can't quite tell what's takign up all the space.
I see a few weirdly named/weirdo character filenames.
Can somebody please help?!! Is there a way to roll off the update?!

Okay.. here's what I've done. The phone was working alright after the update (maybe just a tad slower) and I didn't notice any other issues except for E:\ filling up.
After a while.. when I'd use File Manager in the phone to browse to E:\.. I got a (memory corrupted) message. So my E:\ was pretty much done/gone.
So I did the hard reset *#0730# and then from the File Manager.. did a 'Format Memory' on E:\ and this cleaned E:\ up.
BUT... all my pre-loaded US map data is now gone. The lady at the Nokia Flagship store had told me the N97 came with pre-loaded US maps. They're all gone now.. oh well.
But i'm still effin annoyed that the update didn't work though.. so Nokia still gets a thumbs-down in this department.

  • N97 Firmware update, help needed!

    hi,
i have following problem... i am a mac user, so i cant update my firmware.
got a pc from a friend, windows xp service pack 3, to update my firmware...  installed the new ovi suite from beta labs, works good, phone recongnised etc....
if i try updating from ovi suite, i get following error when the programs wants to download the software: internal error 625.
when i try to update through nokia software update app, it can connect to the phone, but then can't identify my nokia n97...
so both ways aren't working. does anyone have a clue why?
    thanks
    alex

I also have the new MBP with the C2D, and i checked everywhere to see if i needed the firmware upgrade, and couldn't find it anywhere. All the references that i found were toward the old MBP, not the new one. One question about your boot camp tho, does your cpu constantly run at about 75% load in windows, because i just installed boot camp with XP pro today, (NO problem with firmware that i found) and i was always under load. Might be something to look into.
PS, mine is 1.12f5, just like yours

  • N97 firmware update complications

I'm not sure if its just me having this problem but its been doing my head in for ages and I can't work it out. Basicaly I've had my N97 for a while and attempted to update its firmware to the latest version but this is where I have problems.
I copied all my contacts, pictures etc to the Nokia Ovi suite. I then followed the instructions it gave me when i clicked update firmware. I then plug in my phone to the PC using the USB. It then says its updating, gets to 15% and then says its lost connection to the phone even though the USB is is still connected and untouched.
I'm using Vista and my phone is still on version 10 and really wants to update it. Thanks if you can help

Try Nokia Software Updater, you can still backup with ovi. If problem persists remove all nokia software from computer, dowload Nokia PC Cleaner, then re-install Ovi suite 2 and NSU. I had a conflict and this worked for me. Hope this helps.

  • N97 Firmware Update v12

    Hello,
Through various sources, I learned that v12 firmware was released on 17th August. Till date, I have not been able to update through NSU as it says that my phone is already up-to-date ! I thought that maybe this had to do something with the product code of my device and that the firmware was not probably released for India. To my surprise, my friend who happens to own a N97 himself happily updated to v12 !
I did a little background research on product codes. To my surprise, his phone had product code 0575724 while mine has product code 0587487. Upon googling these product codes, I found that
    0575724: RM-505_APAC_INDIA Black
    and
    0587487: N97 India CV B
Both are RM-505. Now can anyone please explain to me what is it with two different product codes for a device same country ? In India, we never get branded phones in contract with a service provider. Hence, that possiblity is also ruled out. Also, can anyone let me know, when to expect the update for my device and why do I have to deal with some bugs and slow device when my other friend who lives nearby enjoys the latest firmware ?

  • N97 Firmware update v22.2.110

I can see the v22.2.110 for my N97 (RM-507), through the Software Updater. But am not able to update it through OTA or through the NSU app. Anyone facing a similar issue ??
Also i cannot see the v22.0.110 to update my phone.

Why it was necessary to open a new topic for this problem? The V22 issues topic is already exists. Anyway I suspect that the V22 is not released for your product code yet. It will be released soon.

  • N97 Firmware Update On 3 Still No News?

I take it there is no update on when the firmware version 2 is going to be released on three mobile??
The waiting time is beyond a joke, Wish I had an iPhone!¬

Version 2 is **bleep** and I would strongly advise not to update to it anyway, there is going to be a new update soon, 2.0 reinstalation seems to be have taken off NSU over night, which normally means there is going to be a software update
In anycase, Nokia do not have the release for branded firmware, that is down to the service provider, in your case 3, so you need to ask them when it is going to be released.
However I would expect that they are waiting for the upcoming version that is hopefully less buggy than 2.0

  • Problem updating Nokia N97 firmware over the arir ...

    OK here goes,
I'm having some real problems updating the firmware on my white nokia N97
I recently bought it of the web as a 12 month contract onto t-mobile (not there website though) in th uk
After noticing some problems i googled and noticed a firmware update had been released on 1st july 2009
I tried to get the firmwae over the air (OTA) via typing in *#0000# and selecting check for updates. I get no updates available for nokia and t-mobile (unsure what the difference is?)
So i heard try using nokia software updater.
i downloaded latest version 1.6.13 and installed it on a windows vista 32-bit home premium laptop ok
i have also installed all of the stuff that came with the cd with the phone (ovistore etc )
when i plug the phone into the laptop i get four options (PC, media, usb and something else) first time it ran it installed the necessary drivers and so therefore when i now plug it it just connects as expected.
so the laptop is detecting the nokia n97 at this stage
when i then load nokia software updater click next i put the phone into general mode on full charge with a sim card in it and click next again to detect the phone is pc suite mode
after about 2 minutes it says it can detect the phone although i can go to my computer and traverse the folder view!
i can even set it off looking for the phone pluggin it in and the autoplay options of vista will kick in in the background detecting the phone (ie outisde scope of nokia software updater)
i have tried all different connections mode pc suite mode etc different profiles nothing. tried it onto different pcs with different windows version on it. tried reinstalling software updater
my software version is 10.0.012 and my product code is 0587240
interestingly when i goto the can i update on nokias website it says no i have the latest version when i supply this information. weird
im kinda in catch 22 because there is a bug with pc usb detection of the phone in version 10 but i cant update to version 11 because of this bug
its driving me nuts any help greatly appreciated
    thanks in advance
    Cheers

It will break your facebook as you have re-formatted the C: drive of you phone. Was you facebook installed to the E: drive by any chance?
Go to OVI Store and re-install it.
It may be work installing it from OVI Store then un-installing that one to clean off the mess you have been left with post formatt and then re-installing it fresh from OVI Store.
As I always say. Before doing a re-format always  uninstall all apps/widgests before doing a hard reset or factory reset.
I also do a this and a factory reset before firmware updates to clean my phone. Should really do a hard reset/format as this would be cleaner still, but tehn I would have to do a lot more set-up afterwards.

  • N97 / N85 - Hard reset - Firmware update Limit ???

    Hi
Was wondering if there Is a max Limit to the numbet of times the Firmware can be updated
or the Phone can be Hard reset
before damageing the MEM Cards built into the N97 / N85

Nowhere its mentioned about the limit for reinstalling firmware updates and doing resets so with that i can say it can be done "many" times, basically its done when you encounter any problem doesn't gets resolved with other resets available, at last we resort to reinstalling firmware or Hard reset. I haven't come across any implications nor heard from anyone doing it often.
FYI N97 has a 32Gb hard drive built-in with an MicroSD slot for expansion.
