N97 Firmware Update - What's Working!

I've installed the firmware update v11.0.021 dated 15-06-2009.
Here a brief report on what I've found working so far on a black Euro model which I'm using on the Optus network in Australia.
1) Long key press now working to select a number on virtual keyboard
2) Backlight still iffy - sometimes it is working with one full click of the lock switch instead of two or three clicks.
3) Voice command working after a soft phone reset with microSD removed.
4) Signal strength appears to have improved as I'm now showing 2-3 bars in a bad reception area that previously only ever registered 1 or none.
I'll add to this as I discover other things.

Hi all
When is this firmware getting out to the rest of us? I have decided not to use this phone untill I get it updated coz I was begining to hate it, kept crashing on me, I have already put pen to paper so Orange own my a?@ for the next 18 months.
C'mon Nokia you promised us an iphone killer, made us wait for months then go and deliver a half baked phone, what happened this time??
I turned down the Iphone for the N97, so please get it up to speed.
Hit Kudos if I Helped out.

  • Firmware update won't work after you've tried the Narf/Blanka method?

Many ppl have reported that their Firmware update won't work after they've tried the Narf/Blanka method for Dualbooting Windows. [For some reason, it doesn't).
Formatting the startup, reinstall etc WILL work ... because of what our friend says here : http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=2076211#2076211
Fortunately, it isn't necessary To Reformat etc... (at least for the firmware update) Apparently, as long you boot from a different Disk to the one you've 'messed with' - such as , say, an external FW Drive, the Firmware updater works.
Had the same problems, same reasons on a 20". Booting from external FW Drive made it happen for me.
May someone be helped by this e-missive....

Sorry: the above is (partly) wrong ... - it'll get you past the firmware update but won't get you past the Boot Camp Assistant ... - it wants to see a single partition No matter what ...
[Just for that, I'm gonna see if I can mess with the 'can't do this on an external drive' requirement ... by moving an external to internal then back out again grin)
    best of luck...

  • N97 Firmware update - E: Mass memory 100% full -- ...

    Help!!!
I just did an firmware update on my N97 to v11.2.021 and when the phone restarted I got a message that E:\ (mass memory) is completely FULL.
And my F:\ (a 1GB memory card) shows corrupted. **bleep**!?? I'm glad I didn't store anythign important there.
I looked up via the File manager and sure enough, the E:\ (mass memory) show 0 MB free. I opened it up.. but I can't quite tell what's takign up all the space.
I see a few weirdly named/weirdo character filenames.
Can somebody please help?!! Is there a way to roll off the update?!

Okay.. here's what I've done. The phone was working alright after the update (maybe just a tad slower) and I didn't notice any other issues except for E:\ filling up.
After a while.. when I'd use File Manager in the phone to browse to E:\.. I got a (memory corrupted) message. So my E:\ was pretty much done/gone.
So I did the hard reset *#0730# and then from the File Manager.. did a 'Format Memory' on E:\ and this cleaned E:\ up.
BUT... all my pre-loaded US map data is now gone. The lady at the Nokia Flagship store had told me the N97 came with pre-loaded US maps. They're all gone now.. oh well.
But i'm still effin annoyed that the update didn't work though.. so Nokia still gets a thumbs-down in this department.

  • Macbook4,1 10.6.8 and firmware update - what went wrong?

Macbook 4,1 2008 2.4Ghz (not unibody). I recently reformatted my hard drive and reinstalled 10.6 from the Retail DVD and all seemed to go well. The MB was working fine up to that point. I then set up the MB (network, date and time, etc.) and repaired permissions.
I then checked Software Update and downloaded and installed the recommended updates to 10.6.8.
Again, all seemed to go fine. System booted and I repaired Permissions again. I went to the Apple web site, a couple of other web sites, and Software Update found another update to install: Firmware. Though I don't remember what version.
I clicked OK and it installed.
Upon reboot, it seemed to install okay.
But then I left the Macbook and it went into Sleep.
I didn't come back to it again until the next day.
When I pressed a key to wake it, I got what I now know is the screen that appears after you wake it from SAFE SLEEP. As per this Apple KB article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1757.
And this is where the problems started.
After the MB woke to the Safe Sleep screen, which shows the desktop a little "out of focus", the progress bars started filling in from left to right, BUT before they completed, the screen went BLACK.
And it has had a problem with black screen ever since. I can boot the MB from internal or external HD or from DVD, and it seems to boot fine. Boot chime, Apple logo, spinning wheel, then at the point where it pauses, blue screen, then goes to desktop, instead the screen goes black.
It finishes booting, but seems to go into Sleep.
I can wake it by pressing a key, but the screen either comes on and goes black again after 10 seconds, or I get the Safe Sleep wake screen, and then it goes black after 10 seconds.
And at boot or when waking the MB, the front LED flashes 5 times. There are no error beeps.
I've tried changing RAM, but problems remain.
So what's all this? Any ideas?
The display doesn't seem dead, as it works to boot and wake. The MB works fine with external monitor.
It's weird, but I can't think of anything apart from the Firmware update. The problems started right after installing it.
Unfortunately, this model of Macbook doesn't have a Firmware Restoration image to download and burn to CD. It is the ONLY Mac at this point that doesn't have this!
I called Apple support and even bought the 49 Euro Pay Per Incident service, which proved to be the same as throwing 49 Euro out the window. The only "technical" support they provided was to Reset the SMC, which you can find out about FOR FREE at the Apple website. And which I'd done anyway. I'd also reinstalled the MacOS. Don't want to beef too much, but sheesh, you've already got a Macbook that might need costly repairs, and they make you pay 49 Euro BEFORE they even ask you about the problem and what you've done to try to solve it. I'm tempted to say "ripoff". I mean, if all they can offer you is the advice to reset the SMC - which Apple offers for free at their website - then that's pretty poor service for 49 Euro, to say the least.
Apart from the wasted 49 Euro, I'm pretty peeved about the Firmware update (or so it seems) wrecking a perfectly working 2008 Macbook. I don't know how to convince Apple of this, but I'm certainly going to try.

    Thanks for the reply.
Re. the Displays setting, the Macbook display isn't recognized and mirroring isn't an available option.
I've scoured the net and the idea of replacing the PRAM battery may be something to try. I read a post by a guy with a Macbook logic board screwed up by a Firmware update, which he solved by replacing the PRAM battery, as when you disconnect it you reset the logic board.
    Which capacitor?
No luck so far with talking to Apple. I will try to get hold of someone a little more tech savvy and/or in a position of authority, as it seems that the Firmware is the culprit. Obviously a million other things could go wrong with a Macbook, but given the timing here it looks like the Firmware. Firmware updates can and occasionally do screw up a computer, as most manufacturers will warn you before you apply the update: PC makers, printer makers, etc. And they probably warn you that it's all your responsibility if anything goes wrong. But re. the Apple Firmware update:
    1) it came thru Software Update
    2) there was no warning
    3) to make things worse, there's no Firmware Restoration image that I can burn to a CD to reflash the logic board: this is the only Apple computer that doesn't have a Firmware Restoration option
I'll try to get thru to a manager and convince him/her that the firmware may have been the cause.
Do you think an authorized Apple tech might have access to some way to do a firmware restoration? Something not avaiable to mere mortals? Because if not, the only solution looks like a new logic board.

  • ThinkPad USB 3.0 Dock - Firmware update doesn't work

    Hello,
My company has bought over 200 ThinkPad USB 3.0 Docks to use with HP Folios to connect dual and single monitors.  Some users have experience multiple issues with this product and I am trying to determine how to resolve these issues.  I first want to update the firmware that is located here:  http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/guides-and-manuals/detail.page?DocID=UM014961
ThinkPad USB 3.0 Dock - Firmware Update - Lenovo Docking FW Update Tool V1.0
I have the USB 3.0 dock connected to the 3.0 USB port on the Folio.  The unit I am testing seems to be working fine as I have dual monitors up, external keyboard and mouse are working.
I ran the .exe, a command window comes up, and it attempted to look for the device.  The text is as shown:
    1. Initialzation<>   Success
    Start Search HUB
    !!!No device found!
Press any key to continue . . .
This has been tried on several devices and it simply does not work.  Does anybody have any suggestions?  I have contacted support which was a complete waste of time because they have no idea what I am talking about.

I'm going to return my dock if possible.  My main problem is that I cannot view Vmware virtual machine which is required for work.  2nd I can't view photos on my dual screens, it just hangs saying "Loading...", but I can view them on my W520 LCD Display.  3rd, I can't view a downloaded video, as in an .mp4.  I disabled the hardware acceleration in Firefox, so I can see streaming video.
I have a Thinkpad W520 and an X1 Carbon and both exhibit the same problems with the dock.
I tried upgrading the DisplayLink Drivers to the 7.x version and that created a slew of problems.  The Dock firmware driver link in the OP doesn't work either.  As mentioned it couldn't find the device.  Uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling the stock one cause lots of problems with my W520.  The dock would try to connect but it kept connecting and disconnecting and the cycle would continue infinitly.   It wasn't until I did a system restore that I could get it working again to where I can use the dock again.
I am extremely dissapointed with this dock.

  • N97 Firmware updates but Ovi suite and SW update t...

I have updated my firmware to the version 11 twice now. Once using the Ovi suite and once using th PC Suite Software  updater. When I go to the SW update app in my N97 it still says "Phone Software - Important" but the details just say it's the same firmware update I've already gotten. I'm thinking this may hinder my ability to get the new NGAGE, Maps, etc. updates. How do i fix this?
    Thanks for the help!!

try this *#7780# default code is 12345 you will not lose any data, you will have to reset your settings possibly. and then turn the phone off for few minutes. turn in back on , go to the software update in the application folder and refresh the avaliable updates by going to options on the left hand side. see if this will help any
oh and btw you have updated your phone you can check this by *#0000# pluging this in if it is v11 you are good to go

  • Next N97 firmware update?

It has  been ages since I got my N97 and yes we all know that Nokia admitted that it was a complete failure as a phone let allone a flagship but still they could help in removing the bitterness from us a little bit.
It has been ages (or it seems so) that the N97 got a firmware update. I mean the 5800 got one recently for Christ's sake!!!
I am really hoping that an update (a really GOOD AND MAJOR ONE ) is around the corner.
Is it possible to get an expected date Nokia?

I wouldn't hold out much hope.  And if/when the update is released, there will be a further delay before your network deigns to pass it on (unless you have an unlocked N97) ...

  • "Wake from sleep" grayed out and BT firmware updater won't work

I've read a number of postings related to ways to correct the grayed out "wake from sleep" option in the Bluetooth prefs pannel, which is a problem I'm having since switching to a Apple Bluetooth keyboard and mouse. The problem I seem to be having is that the Firmware 1.2 updater for the DBT-120 Bluetooth adapter will run, but won't seem to actually flash my adapter (i.e., it won't actually update the device). It is H/W ver: B4, and is plugged directly into a USB port on the back of my fairly new G5 tower, so it seems like it should work.
    Any ideas? Thanks!
    Dual 2 GHz G5   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

That did the trick! My old G4 tower (Yikes!) was able to flash the BT adapter with the firmware update without a problem, even though my G5 was unable to ever finish the process. Once I plugged the updated adapter into the G5 the "Wake from Sleep" option was available and already selected.
Thanks so much for the tip-- I can finally put this question (and problem) to rest.

  • Attempted firmware update didn't work on Nomad Zen X

    Hello everyone,
I'm writing because I attempted to update the firmware of my mp3 player so that it will work with windows xp. I saw two firmware updates available for my particular model so I downloaded the oldest first and started the process of upgrading. After runing the update it said it was going to restart the player. It restarted in Rescure Mode version .3 and whatever operating system WAS on the player is now gone. I'm not worried about the music that was on there because i have it backed up elsewhere. I am just looking to get the unit operational again. It does has full connectivity and when I plug it in to my system it gets recognized as just "storage media." When I try to run the firmware updates now again it says the player isn't connected. Any ideas on where to begin reconstructing my player and furthermore getting to a situation where media player doesn't go crazy every time the player is installed ?

Not that anybody took the time to respond but I figured out that media player was the problem and when I attempted to install the drivers on a pc that had media player 0.

  • Bootcamp + firmware update What ???

Just received my Mac Mini core solo and installed a t2600 2.16ghz. Xbench = 89.76 with only 512mb ram core solo
    Q??
When launching Bootcamp it say's I have to update the firmware but everything is updsted already even before the T2600 ???
Does anyone have a clue as to what is going on here.
PS> It should be illegal to sell any computer with less than 1gb ram these days. LOL ROFL.
    ANy help will be appreaciated.

You need to have installed the first firmware update in order to run bootcamp/windows. To see if you have firmware installed go to utilities and look for Mac Mini Firmware Updater. If that isn't there, install it:

  • RVS4000 firmware updates don't work with Internet Explorer 8.0

I have 2 RVS4000 VPN routers.  Neither would accept firmware updates via the admin browser interface using Internet Explorer 8.0.  After lots of troubleshooting, I tried Chrome (Google) on 1 router and Mozilla Firefox on the other.  Both updates were successful.  The firmware rescue utility that you can download from the Cisco web site also works.  It does the update without the browser interface, but installs a slightly older version of firmware than is availble for browser-based firmware updates.  I hope this saves you time and frustration when you need to update your routers.
    Rene Feitelson

    Rene,
A thousand thanks for taking the time to post your result. You've made my day!
I have spent over 8 hours today trying to implement a firmware upgrade on my RVS4000, with zero success. I initially used Safari 5 (on a Win XP SP3 machine) in order to update IPS to v1.42, with no success. Switching to MS IE8 and the update worked fine - hence I stuck with IE8 for the firmware update. I can confirm your result - IE8 does not initiate a firmware update, nor does it provide any feedback whatsoever on its failure.
Using the Firefox v3.5.9 browser the RVS4000 v1.3.2.0 firmware update worked straight away without a glitch.
So, perhaps a general "Heads Up" to everyone - if you have any issues when trying to configure your Router, then try using another browser as the first step.
    Many thanks again, Rene.

Oh, another issue that might help folks:
When the firmware update file "filename.img" is downloaded from the Cisco site Windows interprets it as a .zip file and associates the usual ZIP file icon to it. Cisco's documentation states "unpack the file and ......". This immediately leads one to believe that the firmware update file is contained in the ZIP file. This is not the case! It is NOT a ZIP file at all, but is the binary that the router requires.
If one tries to unzip the file WinZip throws up an error "ISO file incomplete" and doesn't unzip it.
So, ignore the ZIP file icon and just point the router firmware updater at the .img file, despite its ZIP icon.

  • N97 Firmware update v2 bricked phone

I own an unlocked N97 in the UK, and after waiting discovered that the v2 firmware has finally been released!
So, I backed up my phone, installed the firmware update (which completed successfully) and the phone rebooted itself.
It booted fine, and then the annoying email wizard popped up and the 'phone stopped responding.  I left it for 15 or so minutes to see whether it would start responding to unlocking etc and it didn't.  I tried switching it off using the power button and, as I expected, it didn't even register that I'd pressed the button.  After a couple of minutes of messing around with it I removed and replaced the battery and switched it back on... now it just sits on the white screen with the blue Nokia logo, no sounds, nothing.
I have tried leaving it to see if it finishes the boot process (after half an hour it's still sitting there...), I have tried taking the battery out for 10 minutes before trying to turn it back on and the same thing happens.
Anyone got any ideas, or is this going to require yet another replacement handset? (given that this is now the second N97 I'm on...)
Out of the two N97 owners in this house, we've now had 5 N97s between us, I can't say I'm impressed.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Hard reset the phone using the keys and you should be fine.
Turn your phone off AND simultaneously press these four buttons circled in red.
    Caps Button

  • Sleep light firmware update did not work altogether

    Original 1.6GHz iMac G5
    10.4.3
The intention was simple. I wanted to run the sleep light firmware to dim the sleep light pulses during the early morning hours. So I installed the firmware package and then went to run the firmware update. At the end of the update, I get an error that goes something like this: "An unexpected error occured. The software was not updated." I was then told to shut down my computer to try again. But I can't try again, because when I go to run the firmware package again, I am told that my firmware is up to date. Yet the sleep light is the same intensity as before, no matter what hour of the day (whether it is 23:53 or 1:53, as examples) I set the time for. I gave the sleep function some time (between two pulses and 5 minutes for some tests) for the dimming effect to occur potentially, but it never did.
    Now what do I do?
    Specifically:
[1] How do I get to rerun the firmware so that I can get the light dimmer?
[2] Why did the error even occur and prevent the firmware from being updated?

Reinstallation of the package led me back to the ~"Firmware is up to date" message, so now I'll try the chat agent. (In the future, link me to where the chat agent is, because I did not find it until I did a general search from the main website, and searching is a huge pet peeve of mine.)

  • Firmware update - What if I reinstall OSX ?

I have successfully installed the firmware update.
If I decide to completely reinstall OSx using the disc that I received with my MacBook Pro, do I then need to reinstall the firmware update (again) too?

Once you have installed the firmware update, it will be there for good, regardless of reinstalling OSX. If you want to restore the original firmware, you can do that also, but need to download and run the uninstaller. You can get that here:

  • N97 Firmware update, help needed!

    hi,
i have following problem... i am a mac user, so i cant update my firmware.
got a pc from a friend, windows xp service pack 3, to update my firmware...  installed the new ovi suite from beta labs, works good, phone recongnised etc....
if i try updating from ovi suite, i get following error when the programs wants to download the software: internal error 625.
when i try to update through nokia software update app, it can connect to the phone, but then can't identify my nokia n97...
so both ways aren't working. does anyone have a clue why?
    thanks
    alex

I also have the new MBP with the C2D, and i checked everywhere to see if i needed the firmware upgrade, and couldn't find it anywhere. All the references that i found were toward the old MBP, not the new one. One question about your boot camp tho, does your cpu constantly run at about 75% load in windows, because i just installed boot camp with XP pro today, (NO problem with firmware that i found) and i was always under load. Might be something to look into.
PS, mine is 1.12f5, just like yours
