N97 Issues

hi guys!
Im here to ask u guys a few questions....
I have an Official Unbranded Nokia N97 RM505 with V22...
so..
is there any news bout menu transitions? lets see... ppl now do it all the time with custom firmwares...
AND IT WORKS FINE!! as i'v red some reviews....
why nokia doesnt implement a new firmware update/upgrade on its OLD FLAGSHIP!
i'v seen the rummors for the V30 on n97 for like almost a year now....
when does it actually come out to the consumer market?
Plus....
Whats the dam point of havin 32Gb of memory avaiable IF u need more then 1 Hour to fill up 8gb?
i sold my N95 to buy this N97....
at the time i mainlly used the GPS application...
lets see....
N95 = BL-5F = 950mAh = 4Hours of navigation
Now...
N97 = BP-4L = 1500mAh = 10h? 8h? WAIT!! 4H navigation!! and Corrupted startUP After charging!! needed to hard reset the device!!! On the dam same day of purchase?
Im terrebly desapointed with my device...
I only didnt bought a simple Boston (android) cause NO ONE WANTS THIS ... i dont even know what this is....
and since i cant sell it (costed me 449.90€ new nokia store Lisbon Portugal)...
i cant buy a new one....
So, please tell me that there is still hope for this piece of Cr*p
Would this device actually support USB mass storage Host? with this new adapter cant we connect a Pendrive onto it?
not to mention of the Slowliness it is to just enter the app's folder (stock device)...
to enter the galery with 100 pics... takes AGES....
the WHITE FLASH on every single photo u take... if its at night? forget it... better go get your old n93i or something....
and when sometimes your bout2get an important call and suddently... u noticed that its been like 20mins... and the girl told u it would call u in 2min... cause she was driving... and BAMM!!
the device was frozen... and overheatin.... there u go... take of batery and place it again....
and hope she will pullover again just to talk 2u....
there are WAYYY to many Faults still on V22...
is it too much to ask?
a new life for my 450€ investment?
Sry for the bubbling hehe
Thanks
PS: i have to Hard reset the device like 2times a month... from using Ovi Maps... lucky me i bought a 16gb memory card

My gf has a N97, and has the facebook app..She is a friend on facebook, however can not reply to any comments i make, and she can not see half the stuff on my wall. When she logs on with her normal computer, she can see things normally.
I am the only friend she has this issue with.
    Can someone help?
    Cheers

    Hi,
I agree with what you are saying, however, she can't post a comment to a status that I put, yet she can with everyone else on her phone.
When she is on a computer my facebook she can use normally, but on her N97, it is only my profile she is having trouble with.
Is there a settings within the N97 where you can put people on limited profile or anything?
Or is it easier to reinstall the Facebook App. And if so, what is the best way to do this?
    Cheers

    Hi,
Did you just read my mind? That's what I'm about to suggest. Anyway, yes what I would suggest is to have it uninstalled from the phone and re-install it back. To uninstall it to your phone, just look for the facebook application under Application manager then press options and select remove. There are two ways to have it reinstalled back, 1)download it from Ovi store website and 2) visit facebook.com using your device, login to your account and click on 'download facebook bookmard for N97' near the bottom of the page.
    Hope this helps.

  • Ovi Suite/N97 Issues with recurring tasks

    Hi
I have finally managed to get my N97 to work with Ovi Suite (v 2.0.1.35) but am having some very annoying issues when it comes to syncing calendar & tasks (personally I wish I could just sync the calendar and not the tasks...).
I have several recurring tasks in Outlook. They feature in my task list on Outlook as just one task with the recurring symbol next to them.  Whenever I sync my N97 for some reason, on both the N97 and Outlook the recurring tasks disappear  and are replaced by a years worth of the recurring task.  This means that both my N97 & Outlook task lists are suddenly overflowing and impossible to manage.
Has anyone else experienced this & is there a way round this, or a way to simply sync calendar and not tasks??
    Thanks
    Nick

Just tried editing my previous post and forum wouldn't let me.
Anyhow, I just discovered that Ovi suite didn't mark my tasks as complete - it deleted them.  It also deleted quite a large chunk of my completed tasks as well.  I have absolutely no idea why it would have done this, but to say it's very frustrating is a massive understatement, I'm now having to rebuild my task list from memory.
Never had any of these issues with PC Suite....
P.S - In my Ovi suite options I have conflict resolution set to Outlook not Device...

  • Nokia N97 - Issues with updater

I updated my N97 with the latest firmware update (had to use old PC Suite as Ovi Suite would not find my phone!!).  I then pressed the update function on the phone to see what other updates were there.  I found this wonderful new program that reorganises your files and sorts out any memory issues on the phone memory! Great? NO!!!! Due to the fact Nokia failed to highlight CLEARLY that you should not download this before the new Ovi Maps version 3.03, I now cannot download Ovi maps or indeed, any other nokia software update as i now get a message telling me I have not got enough memory!!!  Help someone!  I have reinstalled the new firmware but the phone remains in the same state.  I fear I may have to go all the way back through my factory settings to put this right.  A poor show from Nokia I have to say. Help someone ...please

Can you not uninstall this app via PC Suite  applications manager .
Or via  settings  organize  remove on the phone .

  • N97 Issues - Nokia please read and address

    Hi All,
I am a massive Nokia Advocate and have been buying and using the latest Nokia since the 2110e back in 1996.
6 Weeks ago I purchased the 2 x n97s for my partner and I and I feel that Nokia has let its loyal customers down badly.
I can get over all the small software related issues but when a phone can not perform the fundamental day in day out tasks it is a serious problem.
Does anyone else have these same problems:
1 - Microphone is terrible when on speakerphone. Person on the other line strugggles to hear you.
2 - Phone does not always connect to bluetooth car kits. Both Nokia CK-7W and Honda Genuine Bluetooth.
3 - Phone reception is on average 2 bars lower than most other phones.
4 - Phone is slow and buggish compared to it's major competitors
5 - GPS (Nokia Maps 3.1) goes in and out of satellite lock every few minutes and often freezes, making it impossible to navigate.
6 - Nokia MMS take an extra ordinary time to send as compared with the n95.
There are more issues, but these are the main ones.
I understand most of these can and will be fixed with software updates, but it appears that some issues could very well be hardare related (eg microphone) and if this is the case Nokia has a real battle on their hands.
Please Nokia, get this right as soon as possible, before your loyal customers and advocates have no choice and are forced to desert you!

If you want Nokia to read this then you have to send it to Nokia. This is a public forum populated by other users like yourself.
Use the "Contact us" link in the navigation bar at the top of all forum pages.

  • N97 Issues/Bugs

    Afternoon,
Having a few issues with my week old N97...I've posted on the Vodafone forum but thought I'd also try here...
The main issue I have is with the WiFi - one of the main reasons I got the phone as I use email a lot and it's handy to have it connect to any routers available...
However, although I have 4 routers saved and I have the 'networks available' icon on my screen, it's very hit and miss actually auto connecting to them. And when I manually connect, it'll drop connection after a couple of minutes.
All I want it to do is auto connect to routers in range and, failing that, my contract internet when available (i live in a mobile blackspot you see)...surely that's what should happen anyway??
I'm running FW version 11 and is up-to-date...
    Am I missing a setting?
Otherwise, phone is great and better now I have a better them installed...
    Ed

On a side note, I think my phone is unlocked (in that I can put my O2 SIM in it and it doesn't kick up a stink) but it has a Vodafone splash screen at startup and VF MyWeb icon on my homescreen - anyway or making it truely unbranded as I just got it last week!!

  • N97 issues/faults/problems?

I have the N97 Black version, software version 11.0.021
the issues i have with the handset are:
when i select the message menu, the screen stays the same until i scroll, and then actually changes to message menu
unlocked slider takes an age to actually unlock the screen, and handset as a whole is very slow
have to double press icons to access the various menus
these are the issues i have noticed, as i havent had chance to explore the phone totaly.
Also, i had an alert on the handset saying update was available, but i wasnt in the position to update at the time, so clicked remind me later, I have since tried to update, but continually get the 'no updates available' message. And i cannot reinstall the firmware using nokia update manager, I constantly receive an error message saying, it could not be completed.
I am totally disapointed with the £500 handset, i was expecting quality of a greater standard

I have that messaging thing too. When I first had mine, maps didn't work and neither did google maps. A full reset worked, but I lost the games Spore creatures and guitar hero on tour . . . lucky they seemed rubbish anyway!
Other things: when you have the favourite contacts on the home screen, sometimes the contacts' photos don't show up. Need to restart phone or deselect favourites to get them to show.
Loads of weird photo bugs that have been mentioned elsewhere here. Also I can't install a few updates that stil show up. Is maps 3.01 the same as maps 3.1? Who knows?
At least maps now work, but I agree, I feel like an idiot having bought this phone and the sad thing is with a little more time I am sure it wouldn't have been released in this broken state. Let's just hope they can fix these bugs and speed the phone up soon. Perhaps some freebies to show goodwill wouldn't go amiss at some point!
Funnily enough the other day I met a guy who works for a market research company hired by Nokia, and he said Nokia are terrifiesd about public opinion of them right now. No surprise there . . .

  • N97, issues still unresolved after software update

I was happy to see the latest software update from Nokia for N97 hoping it would have solved the issues but I was very disappointed experiencing the same problems that I was getting before and worst part was new problems have also
    been experienced.
Old problem which is still not solved
It is still impossible to get the phone working if it switches off by battery getting fully drained. The battery doesn't start
charging even if you put the phone in charging for 24 hours. The charging light blinks but the phone doesnt charge.
    New problem after software update
Even if the phone is put on charge for 24 hours, it doesnt get fully charged. Infact the battery indicator doesn't climb up after 2 points and after using the phone for a small time, it says battery discharged and phone switches off.
I have always been stuck to Nokia phones since I've started using handphones but am having the worst experience with
this N97. God knows when the Nokia people will wake up and provide a final solution to this.

Try pulling the battery and leaving it out for 5 minutes.  Put back together and commence a recharge.  Se if that helps.

  • N97 issues (Music & Memory)

I'm mostly happy with my N97 however I currently have these two annoying issus.
1 - Music, I have a number of albums on the phone, I used to be able to play them using the music player but this now says there is no music. I can access a single track at a time via the file manager. Music is saved in Mass memory.
2 - The phone is running out of phone memory, ie. C: However I cannot find a way to specify where apps etc install to. Nor can I find a way to move them once they are installed.
Any help on these two issues would be appreciated.
Software = 20.0.019 which is latest I can have on Vodafone in UK.

Hi for memory issues follow Kman's advice, remove everything from C you can and install on E, save all messages to E (messaging -options-settings-other-select E-mass memory) clear privacy data on browser regularly, and try RamBlow and do a bit of research !!
    For music try this

  • Some N97 Issues

    Hey all.
Got my N97 today and I love it, was searching around and found that there was an update for it. Sure enough I checked the software updates section in the phone and it come up with loads, I installed them all apart from an important phone update that needed to be done from the pc.
So I installed it that way and all seemed well, going back into the software update however told me that there that this important phone update (Taking it to version 1.0.22 or something) was still there and needed to be done, checking my phone version however told me that it had updated to this version.
A bit worried I called support and they advised me to perform some restore code *#7 something, can't quite remember off the top of my head that would restore the phone to factory default. Which it did seem to do.
Problem is: Everytime I start the phone up it sits on a little scroll bar saying "Preparing memory card" and will not budge off this and I don't have a memory card in the phone.
Is my phone screwed only after having it a day??

now that is strange and it does not sound right. i would play with it some more.
you can plug in *#7370# you will lose stuff on your phone if you have any but it will restore a out of the box state of your phone. if this does not help i would return the phone. if there is no memory card this should not be happening at all
You know what I love about you the most, the fact that you are not me ! In love with technology and all that it can offer. Join me in discovery....

  • N97: issues with WLAN

I have several questions on WLAN, (i) is there any way to automatically connect (without having to click and then decide to connect), and (ii) once connected the device looses the WLAN connection (after having launched facebook for example). Is anyone else having this issue? Any fix woud be much appreciated?

    Hi,
there are TWO drivers for that machine. One is for intel and one is for atheros. Did you just tried the intel-driver? If yes, then try the atheros driver, it should be then the appropriate driver for your wireless-lan card.
Just look here again and download the version for atheros and give some feedback:

  • N97 Issues? Is this common?

... and more important, can it be fixed or should I give up? (Google has NOT been my friend on this haha)
Finished a call earlier today, in town, all of a sudden, no signal, at all. So... reboot, nothing! Was home by that point. Did a hard reset, no change. Went to Network setting, changed it to manual to do a search, and, "no network operators found"... which is, well, wrong. And, it remains like this. Occasionaly, for about 30 seconds, I get a connection, and, 1 bar of signal, then its gone again.
My wife is on the same network, and, hers is working fine, so, its not a coverage/service problem, it simply has to be the handset.
So, I am from a comms and IT background, so, not a noob with these things. To me, if this was a PC, the network card would have died to give the same symptoms.
Had this thing a few months, after my 6220 classic died (after 4 months as a replacement!) and, this is my first foray back into Nokias since my beloved 8910i (good god I miss that phone!). Many years of Sony...
Are Nokias really THAT badly made/problematic now? Or am i just getting extremely unlucky with the ones I get?
Any help would be great folk
    J

Hope it's just the sim, and you don't have to send the phone away for two or three weeks !! If you manage it correctly it is a great handset, unfortunately it DOES require some work
    Good Luck

  • N97 Camera scratch and weak GPS issues

I visited Nokia Care Alexandria, Egypt to fix my N97 issues but they totally denied recieving any information about Camera scratch and GPS issues, and advised to send an email to Nokia main website
I have visited Nokia care after reading this article
    http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/news/item/10588_Getting_the_Service_Centre_low.php

    Hi,
In Spain its kind of the same thing. In the official Nokia Line they wont admit the problems. I found a couple of Nokia Care Centers (which are contractors to Nokia), who will openly admit the problem and the official internal service bulletin. They have ordered some replacements for me.
For the GPS I got the shield sticker replaced with no success. After 2 weeks of use the GPS has degraded again...
Good Luck! This phone is **bleep**.

  • N97 GPS Problems - Hardware or Software?

Sorry to start yet another thread on the N97 GPS problems, but reading through all the threads there seems not to be any clear conclusion as to whether or not the issue is a software/firmware one, in which case potentially fixable, or a hardware one, in which case the phones have to be sent back and replaced.
My personally feeling is that it's hardware.  Some people have no issue but many have a problem.   I have the same issues with losing the satellites, poor GPS accuracy, etc. both with Ovi Maps 3.01 and with Google Maps, which again to me points to a hardware fault.  Updating firmware from v10 to v11 made no difference to GPS performance.
So, I wonder if people agree with me that it is a hardware issue and the phones have to go back, or if there is some hope of it being a software issue and thus being fixed?
Anyone had any success in sending back an N97 for replacement because if the GPS issue? Mine is a UK 3 branded N97 black, free as part of a contract, and I have a feeling that 3 are likely to resist replacing the phone if they can.
    Mark

I believe that the GPS problem in N97 not a hardware problem but a software problem with the Nokia (Ovi) Maps 3.
    Below explanation why:
I have been using Nokia Maps 2.0 on my previous phone – E71 for more than one year. It worked pretty well and stable. One important remark – it is important to configure the server for AGPS under Settings well...
About one and half month ago I decided to install on my E71 the newest Nokia (Ovi) Maps 3.0. And ... immediately my problems started. The GPS performance worsened – I was continuously getting messages about GPS lost, recalculating and usually concluding that I am on a parallel road to the road which I was actually driving – horrible...
Also my colleague with N82 made the same mistake (installed Maps 3.0) and got the same problems.
Because of this problems I have removed this new version on my E71 and went back to Nokia Maps 2.0. And guess what? - The problems were gone!
Two weeks ago I bought my N97. It comes only with Maps 3.1 so I was expecting problems. And ... indeed I have them all. Bad thing is however that I cannot go back to Maps 2.0 on N97...
I tested GPS accuracy with three different phones (N97, E71, E75) and two versions of Nokia Maps. What I can see is that its normal to be about 80-100 meters on average. This is not a specific N97 issue! And apparently should not be a problem because Nokia Maps 2.0 works great even if this application shows accuracy of 100 m. Probably thanks to the Assisted GPS.
So my conclusion is that it is not a hardware problem but a problem with (a part of) the software of the Nokia (Ovi) Maps 3.x ! Maybe with a GPS Driver? Or the functionality of the assisted GPS?

  • N97 Mini any better than N97?

I've been offered a N97 Mini as a replacement of my design flawed N97. Nokia has not been able to address my issues in due time. I've had all the usual stuff; software issues (hangs, reboots, out of memory), no lock or bad reception on GPS and severe halos on camera. The camera is still a mess after Nokia applied "the scratch fix" and is unusable when the flash has been used.
I know the N97 Mini has less memory, no FM-transimtter, etc. But is the N97 Mini free of the N97 issues or should try to get a refund in money instead?
Helsinki, N97 White gone to recycling, now trying N97Mini...
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

The mini tends to have less issues as phone memory C is larger so doesn't run out of memory as quick and freeze, if you want an expert opinion look here
