N97 location function - ovi maps; google maps; fou...

Hi All
I've recently moved from the UK to Australia.  I have a new modem and n97 and new SIM - none of these have been in the UK.
What I have brought from the UK is the wireless router.  I haven't used this for about 2 years (as I got a different internet service which came with it's own wireless modem).
When I conntect my n97 via the wifi - any of the location based services (maps, apps etc) all think they are in the UK at my old old address.  When I use the 3G internet - the phone knows exactly where it is.  The problem seems to be somewhere between the n97 and the wireless.  Any idea how I fix this???
Thanks in advance for your help.

The possible cause is the router. WiFi positioning is based on identifying the MAC ID of the router, which tells where its supposed to be. The databases may have not yet been updated and your router's address is being identified as somewhere in UK. I dont know if you can manually update your router's location, but you can check in its settings page.

  • Can I locate my iPhone on google maps?

Is there a way to locate my iPhone on Google Maps? Just curious.
    André

If you open google maps and enter a destination it will ask you if you want to use the current location as a start point.
I have just tried this and it knew where I was. Was that what you were wanting it to do?
I have used google maps on 2 occasions now to get me to my destination when lost and it has known where I was both times and guided me there!
Indeed, it has been a real life saver!
    More praise for the iphone!

  • Maps: Google Earth, google maps, google maps app...what's the difference?

I can't really figure out the difference between Google Earth, the maps app (google's) that comes on the iPhone, and the google maps that you can use in google (if this makes sense?). There are subtle differences in the way they LOOK...but are there any major differences I'm not seeing? Why would one have Google Earth, Google Maps, and the google apps (map), on their phone? Sorry if this is a really silly question...
Also, does anyone know if it's possible to view a map of a city and have it show ALL of your pins at once? For example, it would show a pin where my 6 friends live, my favorite 4 restaurants that I've labeled, and everyone in my contacts list etc.
Thanks for your patience and help!

    Julian,
    Thanks for the reply.
What I was getting at was the apparent inability to view multiple contacts as map pins on the iPhone maps app. For example, if I were a connoisseur of Indian restaurants, and had my favourites listed in my contacts, it would be great to see all of my faves on the map so I could choose which is closest.
Since I bought my iPhone in 2009 I have thought that maps on the iPhone are window dressing and could be so much better for social and business use.

  • Cannot locate your position in Google Maps

If you plan on trying to find where you are while driving down the road, forget it. It gives you an error saying something along the lines of unable to determine your position or something close to it. Kind of *****, but just letting people know if you haven't tried it yet.

I have tried it while in a passenger of a moving vehicle and it worked perfect. I had this problem just a single time and I turned the phone off and on again and it worked without issues.

  • Maps/Google Maps vs Car GPS

What might the pros and cons be between these 2 choices? Is one any beret than the other?
    Thanks
    Lewis

No matter what device you use, the positioning data comes from the same source: the GPS birds overhead (or the Russian GLONASS birds if on the iPhone for that matter; possible redundancy if Uncle Sam gets cranky that day for that particular piece of sky). As all have pointed out, the useful part comes from how this data is made available to you, and the extras that may be added. The map info can be preloaded or consulted on the fly, but stuff like traffic, road construction, accidents, etc. perforce has to be downloaded realtime.
So in the end, what you will want is whatever feels right for you in terms of ease of use and safety in operation. If down the iPhone (or whatever phone) route, you should also invest in an appropriate holder so you can have the display easily seen and not risking an accident from the distraction of trying to grab a flying iPhone.

  • Websites are not loading quickly or properly, especially any kind of map (Google Maps or Mapquest)

I've tried checking/and unchecking the advanced boxes in Javascript thinking that might be a problem, but nothing seems to work, even viewing the Basic Page style.
Most sites lose the formatting and this happens with Safari as well.
Once loaded, I'll hit the refresh screen and sometimes the proper formatting will appear. Most often, websites load extremely slow.

  • Problem showing Markers on the map (Google Maps)

    Hello All,
I have an application wherein I show lot of markers.  Behavior of my  application is, I have a grid which shows all my Markers and when I  click on a row, an info window will appear at the corresponding marker.  Say my application has two markers with the same latitude and longitude.  When I click on a grid row whose corresponding marker is behind another  marker, I am able to see the info window but from the user perspective  the info window will belong to the marker which is lying on the top of  the actual marker. Now my requirement is to bring the actual marker to  the top level so that the user will see the actual info window.
Please help me in this respect.
    Thanks in advance,
    Nirmal Kumar Bhogadi.

  • Text a location with google maps?

    Hi:
I just bought a iphone yesterday and I am curious if this is possible:
Sending a message to someone (SMS) saying, lets meet at this location, and post a google maps link to that location so that person can click on it and go to that location online through google maps and look up directions on how to get there.
That other person has an iphone too.
    Thanks.

There is no URL provided with the Google Maps application but you could do this with Google Maps using Safari but the iPhone does not support copy/cut/paste at the present time anyway.

This gives the count as per the state in the google map, if we click a state it will show us the count, but its holding good only for 11 records in the map
    Appreciate your response

I haven't yet used the tag. It looks quite interesting.
I had a look at the
    cf_googleMap
Documentation out of curiosity. Apparently, putting
<cf_googlemapshow/> at the end, just before the closing body
tag, solves a number of Javascript issues.

  • Google Maps and Skyhook - doesn't work as expected; it works better!

Hello all and thanks for taking the time to read this.
I was under the impression that when you pressed the Locate button in the Google Maps application that the iPod took the MAC address of the WiFi Router it was connected to and then polled Skyhook's database to get the Lat and Long of that router. After this the Maps application would also download appropriate map images to display underneath. This is all well and good however today I noticed that without connecting to any router Maps was able to track my position as I walked down a residential road with only encrypted home WiFi connections available - none of which could actually provide me with an Internet connection. Whilst I can see that the iPod could obtain the MAC address of these routers as I walked past I'm at a loss as to explain how it managed to turn this into the Lat and Long which was being displayed as a blue circle. I know I hadn't connected on a free WiFi connection as the Map images didn't update.
    Does anyone have any explaination?
    VMT
    mrtotes

    Thanks for all the replies.
I went to watch mrs totes play a Netball match on Saturday, somewhere I've never taken the +iPod touch+ before. It could see two encrypted networks and pretty accurately determined my position. As you can see only a certain amount of cached map image data was available. The fact that it still found my position spoiled my only theory that the iPod might cache a local MAC/Lat/Long table.
Here are some images to illustrate:
I guess you are suggesting that it downloads and caches a table of a certain radius when you determine your location and have an Internet connection. Interesting. I'm driving to 40 miles to Bristol tomorrow once I get they I'll see if I can determine my position.
    cheers
    mrtotes
P.S. They won 31-16 and mrstotes was 'man' of the match.

  • Sales & Marketing Online MapIt URL Maps feature for Addresses Google Maps

We recently enabled the MapIT URL functionality so our users can see street maps from Yahoo from Sales Online when they click on the Map it icon associated with all addresses in Sales and Marketing Online.
See Metalink 280542.1 for how to enable this in the Ebusiness Suite.
    Two questions:
    1. We would like to use Google Maps; does anyone know how this can be done?
    2. Our business is in Australia. By default we hide Australia as a county on our addresses. This prevents us from seeing maps for addresses in Australia. Any body know a way around this?
Image for clarification can be found here: http://www.orafaq.com/forum/t/90720/0/

Sorry mate looks like it is not straight forward change that you can make to use Google instead of Yahoo.
You may need to use Google Maps APIs and try to build your own URL and update the profile option.
I am hoping in next version of Oracle Apps has out of the box functionality to use Google maps.

  • 6300 and google maps

Anyone know how to get "my location" to operate on google maps.Realise 6300 is not GPS but sure I read somewhere that your WAP/ network can triangulate your location even though it may be a street or so away from the actual position.
    Thanks

if you have the google maps launched yes i think it is capable of triangulation and using internet connection in combination to get the job done. are you using the internet connection and the google maps are not doing anyting or what happens? for google maps you need the internet connection you know that right?
