N97 + Maps 3.01 no gps signal and crash

On maps 2.0, N97 works perfectly.
Then I upgraded to Maps 3.0, GPS gets cutting off, so navigation is not useable, and cant get GPS fix/ signal easy. Even in open areas, need wait for 15 minutes and need to move the **bleep** n97 around to have some GPS signal.
Then yesterday i upgraded to Maps 3.01, No GPS signal at all! And when I press Options > Tools > Settings > Navigation maps crashed and goes back to standby screen.
Well, with all the bugs accumulating of the N97, we can burn this piece of **bleep**.

  • Using copilot uk, no GPS signal if active on screen!

    Hi,
Had a Ipod touch with copilot on it for last severl months been great with no problems.
However recently been having problems where, start up fine put in a destination start to drive then comes up with no GPS signal, and gives me no directions!
Go back to main screen go back into copilot and it works for a few secounds before going back to No GPS Signal.
However if I just go back to the main screen and leave it there, I get voice instructions even when the touch has gone in to sleep mode!
Really confused, not sure if this is a hardware error or a software prob!
    Any ideas?
    thanks

My screen was professionally replaced due to a crack; am wondering if this is it?
Could be, or whatever accidental damage caused your screen to break and be replaced may have caused additional hardware damage.
If no change after restoring your iPhone with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from your iPhone's backup, your iPhone has a hardware problem.

If you mean adding a GPS receiver into the iPad then no, an iPad can't have it's hardware changed. There are stand-alone GPS units that work with the iPad e.g. Bad Elf GPS receiver (I haven't got one but I've seen it mentioned on here a few times)

  • Navigation that works for a8-5500 and how to fix GPS signal

Found out that these navigation systems works fine with at 5500-f tablet:
    Navigon.
    Route 66.
    Sygic.
    iGO Primo.
If you now of others that works (TomTom, Navfree etc), please let us know
However, the A8 5500f and other tablets from lenovo seems to have a problem with the GPS fix. It takes forever to acuire a decent signal. There is a soloution to this problem:
    A) Have WI-FI ON, if possible.
    B) Launch the navigation, eg Route 66.
    C) After some seconds, turn off WI-FI.
    D): Ready!
This procedure will allow the navigation to download the assisted GFS. But it seems like the WI-FI, when ON, is making it difficult to reciewe a clear gps signal. If no WI-FI, it will take a minute or so to reciewe a clear GPS signal without A-GPS.
There is also a third solution. Download a app that is keeping GPS alive all the time. Like ActiveGPS - GPS booster or so. This will allow you to keep WI-FI ON all the time. How much batteri that will eat up, i dont know.

    Hi,
When you stram from a bin file repeatedly, it will run first time but will lose lock because when it comes tothe beginning of the file, its time suddenly jumps and the receiver does not accept this. For example, lets say your bin file is from GPS time t1=0 to GPS time t2=30000s. When you loop back around the file, the time increases from 0 to 30000 and then jumps back to 0 and that is not acceptable by receiver. You will need a direct streaming from 5671.
I can put that up for you soon if you want.

Your only way is if you have the version that was compatible on your computer such as in the recycle bin/trash or in a computer file backup. In that case delete the current version that is in your iTunes App library and replace it with the older version. Then sync.
    Also see:

The bakup that iTunes makes does not included synced media like apps and music.
If you still have the one 2G with the Netflix app, delete the new NetFlix app from her computer anf then transfer iTunes purchased to the iTunes library by:

Then sync to her iPod. You may have to sign the iPod into the account that purchased it to sync it.

People have said that they contacted Verizon and received signal boosters and I was wondering if anyone had knowledge of this?

        jslack73,
Thank you so much for those details. I do see that the area should have pretty good coverage. Since you have been at home have you been able to remove the sim card for a good 10-15 seconds http://vz.to/1ys6Uj0? Also, please try resetting the network settings on the phone. You can do that by going into Settings, General, Reset, and Reset Network Settings. After this is complete you would need to re-add in your wi-fi passwords. Please keep us posted.

  • I've had a network extender for 2 years and since August I can't get a GPS signal

I have had a network extender for over 2 years and have had no problems with it.   Since August, I have had nothing but trouble.  The GPS signal went out and I went through all of the Verizon troubleshooting tips and nothing worked.  They sent me a new one and it has worked for about 2 weeks however now I have the same exact problem, the GPS is red and I haven't had a GPS signal for 2 weeks now.  What is going on? How is it possible that after over 2 years of having no issues, we can't get a GPS signal?

I spoke with another Verizon tech rep and he was going to open a network trouble ticket however first he needed to gather some information.  He directed me to this site http://8x8.com/Resources/Tools/VoIPTest.aspx
to get info on the speak of my computer and IP connection however when I began the test, there was an error and it couldn't measure my VOIP connection.  The Verizon rep said that there isn't software in the network extender and that it's based off the VOIP.  So he suggested I call my internet provider and tell them that I'm trying to use a VOIP and for some reason it's not working.  He suggested I tell them I'm trying to use Vonage and not Verizon though.  Anyway, I'm going to call Comcast tomorrow and provide them the information that I got off the http://8x8.com/Resources/Tools/VoIPTest.aspx site.   Not sure if that will help you but I will keep you posted as to what Comcast tells me.

  • I have a Droid Razr that loses it's GPS signal. I am unable to navigate using Google Maps. It is almost like I am missing a file. How can I fix this?

Please tell me how to get my GPS signal back on my phone. Thanks.

And they do offer a compatible version. As I am running running Netflix on my first generation iPad just fine.
You'll need to first "purchase" the non compatible version  either on a newer device that can run it or on a computer running iTunes using the Apple ID that is on the first Gen iPad.
After that is done, you should be able to go into the App Store App, and find Netflix under the Purchased Tab. Tap on it to download it and you should be warned its not compatible, but will be offered the compatible version.

  • N85 GPS Signal

    Good day,
I have installed Garmin Mobile Xt 5.00.10.
Now both Nokia Maps and Garmin Mobile don't receive GPS Signal.
    How can I do?
    thank you

I sent it to the repair facility since it was past 30 days (bought near end of june). Replacement phone gets some reception where I didn't get any before but reception is still worse than the 2610. Either Nokia's build quality is worse for smartphones or the N85 has a design flaw (or Palco/Nokia Repair Center didn't send me a "replacement" and this phone is my original with a new IMEI)
People having reception problems with the N97 worry me. It looks like the N-series is getting weaker reception: /discussions/board/message?board.id=smartphones&message.id=155723&query.id=458011#M155723
One thing is it might be because my SIM card isn't seated correctly. I looked up "gophone weak signal" and saw stuff about the iPhone getting weak signal because the SIM card wasn't seated correctly. This makes sense since the 2610 uses a sort of latch to hold the SIM down while the N85 only slides in. Some iPhone users report better signal by attaching some tape to the top of the SIM card to hold it tighter in the slot. I'm thinking about trying something similar to see if it will help any, but that could void my warranty
I tried sliding out my SIM card a little until it was up against the battery to see if that would seat it better. I tested internet on EDGE and seemed to work faster/better but not sure. Is there a "field test mode" that I can go into with the N85 to see if anything I try is helping?

  • My iPhone 5 does not get GPS signal

    Good day,
I noticed with my iPhone 5 that the map directions never seem to work.  Then I noticed my Nike+ app GPS signal always shows as weak and it doesn't work.  I never had the problem with my iPhone 4S so I thought maybe the new iOS.  I took my old 4S in it's case (now my wifes phone) and started the Nike+ on it and on my iPhone 5 (no case) sitting next to each other.  The 4S got a strong GPS signal. The 5 got nothing...
Has anyone out there experienced the same thing?  I'm trying to determine if this a global 5 thing or just my phone.
    Thanks all for your replies.

For the record - After calling support and running some diags I took the iPhone 5 into an Apple store.  The phone was replaced and all is good.  So this turns out to be a hardware issue, not an app or software issue.
    Thank you,
    Bud

  • 5230 GPS fix problem (have gps signal but no gps f...

    hi
    i have a nokia 5230
    software version V20.0.005 / 23-03-2010
    custom version 20.0.005.315.02 / 29-04-2010
    type RM-588
    not updated
CODE 0597862 - Latest available software for your device Version 20.0.005
    GPS positioning methods:
A-GPS = OFF (I dont have/dont want data traffic charge)
    IntGPS = ON
    BlueGPS = OFF
    Network Based = ON
    Positioning server use = disable
    Software used:
Default nokia gps applications - GPS positioning (not the ovi map)
Nokia sports tracker v3.50(0) (S60 3.1) 2-08-2010 (mostly for GPS logging)
    Garmin XT
The problem - GPS fix is taking (sometimes) very long periods from 1 - 5 hours or in same cases it does not make a GPS fix. Other times (about 25% of tries) it calculates GPS fix in a few minutes (1-15min).
I use the GPS only outdoors within open sky and hill/forest (not in urban, tall buildings). Usualy is clear sky or clouds, but not storms.
The Satellite info page displays me the satelite signals, and usually I have about 6-11 satelites bars and from them about 4-7 with more then 75% signal. It is very frustrating to have gps satelite signal and not have a gps fix. This is obvios a software related problem not a weak gps signal.
DOES anybody had this issue and know how to solve it? I suspect a firmware bug... but I dont really know.
    Thank you.

My new 5230 takes ages to get a GPS fix. Nokia suggested the following. It seems to have given me route not found errors but I'm still testing. I reproduce Nokia's suggestion here it case it helps you...
We understand that you are having some issues with the GPS function of your Nokia 5230. In response to your concern, may we recommend that you power cycle your phone. Please follow the stepls below:
    1. While your phone is switched on, remove the battery.
    2. Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
    3. Put the battery back in.
    4. Turn your phone back on.
After you have performed the steps mentioned above, kindly perform a soft reset on your device.
To perform a soft reset, please follow the steps below. Please note that this will restore your phone's settings and will not delete any data.
     1. Go to your phone's main screen and press *#7780#.
     2. You will be prompted to restore the factory settings and it will ask for a lock code. If you have not changed the code, the default is 12345.
     3. Your phone will automatically restart after pressing the code.

  • N97 - Maps/Navigation Question (probably a rather ...

I have managed to update my actual maps. So that's good. My compass seems to work, so that is also good.
Before the Maps update I managed to save my home address and set it as a Favourite. Since the update of Maps (the app) and the actual maps themselves, I can't seem to save another Favourite location – such as my work address.
So, this may be a very dumb question, but I'm allowed a few surely? LOL Phones I'm OK with, computers are my livelihood – but GPS is a whole new confusing world to me. OK – I get the basic concept – my device communicates with a silver dish in the sky and decides where I am, I tell it where I want to go, it determines where that is and charts a route for me and guides me on my way (I hope – if the Telstra ad on TV here is any indication, that could be problematic).
How do I save a darn new address and make it a Favourite – I can't even save an address now, yet clearly I did before, because my home address is still there.
Also, I gather I have to subscribe to this thing if I actually want driving instructions etc. For $79.99 a year, it seems rather expensive – what am I actually getting for that $79 when the use of the satellite seems to be charged on my phone bill.
    I'm so confused.
Can someone please give me a kindergarten intro to GPS/Maps/what am I paying for/anything else I need to know?  How to save an address would be a good start!  Or is the answer to that, that my trial period has run out?

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Dear Advanced Sage.
There are 4 components to a "SatNav" system.
1 - A GPS device, which triangulates your position using satellites in space. The same principle that land surveyors use to locate a point by measuring its distance from (at least) 2 other points.Your location is identified as a pair of co-ordinates on the world mapping convention system, latitude and longitude.
    2 - A digitised map (or twelve).
3 - Some software which  locates the identified co-ordinates on the digitised map, and the co-ordinates of any other "known"location. The map includes data about the various roads between the 2 identified locations, and determines the permutations of ways to get from A to B. According to your chosen priorities (faster route, shorter route, no toll roads, no ferries, etc) the software will inform you of the "best" route. It will normally do this by showing you this route, possibly step by step, on the screen of your SatNav.
The cost of these 3 elements  is paid for (once and for all) in the purchase of the phone.
To make the work of the number 1 component easier, that is, the task of the GPS to locate you in the first place, the GPS designers came up with AGPS - "Assisted" GPS. The assistance comes from the phones natural ability know where it is to a crude, but useful, extent by knowing the location of its "cell". This knowledge helps the GPS to calculate its position more quickly, by narrowing down its area of search. For the GPS to acquire this information, it needs to use the phones data connection to send and receive a small chunk of data about the cell, which gives the initial rough position to the GPS.
If you select this AGPS option in your "Positioning" settings, you have to pay for the data connection, or it will come from your data allowance. It's not a lot, and speeds up the operation of the GPS, but it's not necessary for the operation of the GPS.
4 - If, in addition to the visual directions from A to B, as shown on your screen, you want the SatNav to give you directions as you travel, this is known as "Navigation". It's like having a Navigator (as in rallying) sitting in the passenger seat, giving you directions as you go.
Nokia charge a license fee for this "Navigation". From what I've seen recently, the current licenses on offer cover periods up to 1 year. I bought my Navigation license for my old N95, and I was then able to buy a 3 year license, which worked out cheaper per year. I've now tranferred my license from my old N95 to my new N97.
Actually, I didn't have to do anything to "transfer" the license. You can set the license, on the Nokia server, to be linked to either your sim card, or your phone. If you link it to your phone, it will work with any sim card in the phone. If you link it to the sim card, your license will work. no matter what (nokia SatNav) phone you put your sim card in.
    That's about it really.
To sum up, the GPS, software, and maps are all included in the price of the phone, including the software and maps updates. If you choose AGPS you will have to pay for the small data charges from your data allowance. (There's no point in buying this phone without an "unlimited" data allowance - personal opinion). For "Navigation", turn-by-turn direction, you will have to pay for a license.
For what it's worth. I still have my old N95. I felt sorry for it, it's still a great phone, because it was left with no "Navigation" license, although I still had a perfectly working GPS. So I treated it to a copy of Garmin Mobile XT software. This installed perfectly on the N95, and, unlike the Nokia "Navigation" license, you only pay once. There's no term license. Once you've bought it, it's yours. It cost £50 GBP, and is accurate and easier to use than Nokia Maps. It wouldn't work on my N97, though, so I guess it is only for Symbian 3 devices, not Symbian 5. I bought a cheap "Pay and Go" sim card, to enable the Garmin software to use AGPS. The first time I used it thoug, it worked perfectly, and was quick to find my location, even without the AGPS assistance. A lovely bit of software.
    Phew ...

  • E71 - No GPS Signal / Re-installing Software

    Hi,
I recently changed provider from Orange to Three. I had to get the E71 'unlocked'. For a couple of weeks after getting it unlocked my GPS / Nokia Maps (I paid a subscription) worked fine. However, now I no longer can receive a GPS signal... The position on the GPS is stuck at the town where I last used Nokia Maps, and does not update...
Also, the phone still has Orange software in it.
How do I install a new operating system? can I download it somewhere? I have the CD which came with the phone, but this CD is at least 2 years old, and I'd prefer a newer OS if possible.
The lack of Maps / GPS is very frustrating as I got rid of my Iphone because the GPS was bad, and went back to the E71 because it's always been good!
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi jdg1000
Unfortunately as your E71 has Orange branded firmware despite now being unlocked, the latest OVI Maps with free navigation is probably not an available option for you; you can check using OVI Suite or Nokia Software Updater on your PC whether any later firmware has been released.
As GPS signal relying on Integrated GPS of E71 is quite poor you might want to check whether the Assisted GPS feature has a correctly defined Network access point in Positioning > Positioning server.

  • Nokia 701 - GPS Signal Lost (Never get it to work...

I'm having trouble using the GPS on my 701. After a minute it will say  "GPS signal lost" all the time. And moreover the current position it is indicating is wrong.(I'm using it outside) I've tried positioning method Wi-Fi/Network and Network Based. What could be the problem? Please help.

    Hi,
When you use maps, finding your position should usually take about 40 seconds.  If it takes longer than that, or it quickly looses location, your GPS receiver might be faulty, though it’s most likely caused by poor reception.
Try improving your reception by going outside and making sure you’re not surrounded by high buildings and are not moving while your phone finds its location. This way your phone can make a quicker connection with the satellite. Also make sure your hand isn’t covering the phone and don’t lock your screen while waiting for GPS, as this can cut off your reception.
If this doesn’t make a difference it’s best to visit a local care centre where can be checked if your GPS receiver is faulty. Your device can be repaired, if necessary. You can find a care centre by going to your local Nokia web page and clicking on Support.
If my post has helped you in any way, please accept it as a solution or click on the white star, so that other users will be able to benefit from it too.
