N97 Mini can't get a GPS fix on Ovi Maps but insta...

Yeh, well I got my N97 Mini yesterday and it instantly fixes on a satellite on Google maps but  when I try Ovi maps or the positioning app (Menu> Apps> Location> GPS Data> Positioning), it doesn't connect at all! I'd really like to be able to use Ovi so what can I do?

Google maps uses the cellphone mast and the internet to determine your position, apart from the GPS on your device.
On Ovi Maps or Positioning app, have you configured it to have A-GPS activated? Furthermore, Google Maps is fast in getting a "map" because it only downloads maps on the fly, of maps of the area on screen, while Ovi Maps is trying to download the maps for an entire country.
Go to Menu>Apps>Location>Positioning>Positioning Methods. Make sure you have A-GPS and network based turned on (you can use it turned off if you want, but turning them on will make the initial fix faster). In Positioning Server, make sure that the server address is supl.nokia.com, and the access point is defined.
The first ever fix from a phone can take anywhere from 5min to 45min, depending on various factors. Also, make sure that you have downloaded the maps for your country into your phone.

    Hi patriciaanne3
You might like to look at this press release from Nokia a couple of days ago: http://www.nokia.com/A4136001?newsid=1140680
In version 12.0.013 you have an added feature in the menu with Network connection, internal GPS and external GPS, there is a fourth category A-GPS = Assisted GPS.
This enables N95 with internal GPS to establish position indoors, which is not currently the situation in earlier software versions.
"Assisted GPS, or A-GPS, is a technology that uses an assistance server to cut down the time needed to determine a location using GPS" You are using the power of a mainframe computer to cut down the number crunching needed to process position of four satellites needed for three dimensional position for first fix (TTFF= Time to First Fix) As mentioned in Nokia press release there is also scope for network provider to use mast location as adjunct to speed this process.
If you are near a WLAN of course this can provide network connection for assistance server or you can use GPRS as appropriate.

  • I can't get a gps fix after 2 hours of waiting.

It's really sad that just by updating 2 latest fimware(in this case from belle to belle reresh 111.040.1511.c05.01), i haven't been able to get my position through the built in integrated gps. I have tried activating the A- GPS and standing in an open space free from obstructions like trees and tall buildings for thirty minutes to get the first fix .I  have also tried downloading software like legpsdata which shows between 10 - 13 gps satellites in view but no satellites used and also soft resetting (*#7370#) and hard resetting it. I have changed the positioning server to supl.google.com and proritising it but to no avail. This is really frustrating to me because i always enjoyed using the gps feature of this phone, which competes favourably with most stand alone gps available in the market. Please i hope i can get any form of assistance from the community members. Thanks!

    Hi,
I have the same issue with a C7. GPS position search is very low. I'd read several topics in this question, but still did not find solution. I cant find suggested LeGPS, but I installed infogps which is not able to find satelits in 20 mins. I want to use A-GPS, but does not work at all. it looks, cant find network(which works). When I start maps the data sign is blinking (3G) but data traffic remains 0,0 kB. dont know why. I have an older 5230 (I beleive) which is able to position in 3-4 secs inside the house and I can see the increasing data traffic number. When I compared the settings with the 5230 and there I can provide the mobile access point (which network connection to be used) which cannot be setup on the Belle.
    settings:
positioning - positioning methods: Assisted GPS, Integrated GPS, Network Based
positioning server - server settings - supl.nokia.com , only in home network: No
    map settings:
    connection: online
    Network destination: Internet
Can anyone help? is there any workaround how to force A-GPS?

  • My Droid Ultra cannot get a GPS fix nor a 4G signal

For the past couple of months my Droid Ultra cannot get a GPS fix or a 4G LTE signal. I've tried the following:
    1. Downloaded and ran GPS Status to attempt to get a fix and clear the GPS data.
    2. Start up in Safe Mode.
    3. Check for Software Updates.
    4. Re-seated SIM card.
Before I'm forced to do a full factory reset (not even sure that will fix it), is there anything else I can do to see how to get either or both of these functions working again? Thanks!

Thanks for the swift reply Ruth!
I don't recall any major changes a couple of months ago.
I checked Network Mode and it was set to "Global". I switched it over to LTE/CDMA but still only get 3G.
The GPS issue seems to affect all apps that use it. I initially noticed the problem using the navigation tool on Maps (by Google). I've also been able to get a fix using Waze, GPS Test and GPS Status & Toolbox.
In Settings>Location I have set to ON and the following
    E911 Only
    Mode: High accuracy
    Location Services: Google Location Reporting

  • How can I get the gps coordinates on my ipad which was stolen today?

My ipad was stolen today, how can I get the gps coordinates to report to the sherriff?

If Find My iPhone (iPad) was turned on on your iPad and the iPad is on and connected to the Internet you will be able to locate it. Go to iCloud.com and sign in with your Apple ID and password. If the device is off or not connected to the Internet you can send a signal to lock or erase the iPad but that action will not complete until the iPad is connected to the Internet.
If you did not have find my iPhone turned on there is no way to track your iPad.

Those folders are protected by the operating system.
They cannot be accessed unless you hack the phone, which is a warranty-voiding operation that cannot be discussed here.

My lock button isn't working. I am using the assistive touch thing right now. Can I get my phone fixed or replaced?

Rice is hit or miss but if you can (assuming you live in a home with a furnace) sit it up with the speakers facing down on an air flow register for about 10 minutes.  The heat from the furnace will not harm the sensitive components and will dry the phone out nicely including the display layers.  DO NOT USE a hair blower!  The iPhone is capable of drying out much more easily than phones with removable backs as the iPhone while sumbermeged in liquid (for a short time) will take on limited moisture hence can be dried and keep on keeping on.  My dauhter dropped her iPhone 5 in a toilet and it was fine after spending 24 hours in rice and 10 minutes on the air register while the furnace was producing heat.
One last thing.  DO NOT POWER ON the phone until the drying out efforts have been completed and certainly DO NOT plug it in.

  • I've had a network extender for 2 years and since August I can't get a GPS signal

I have had a network extender for over 2 years and have had no problems with it.   Since August, I have had nothing but trouble.  The GPS signal went out and I went through all of the Verizon troubleshooting tips and nothing worked.  They sent me a new one and it has worked for about 2 weeks however now I have the same exact problem, the GPS is red and I haven't had a GPS signal for 2 weeks now.  What is going on? How is it possible that after over 2 years of having no issues, we can't get a GPS signal?

I spoke with another Verizon tech rep and he was going to open a network trouble ticket however first he needed to gather some information.  He directed me to this site http://8x8.com/Resources/Tools/VoIPTest.aspx
to get info on the speak of my computer and IP connection however when I began the test, there was an error and it couldn't measure my VOIP connection.  The Verizon rep said that there isn't software in the network extender and that it's based off the VOIP.  So he suggested I call my internet provider and tell them that I'm trying to use a VOIP and for some reason it's not working.  He suggested I tell them I'm trying to use Vonage and not Verizon though.  Anyway, I'm going to call Comcast tomorrow and provide them the information that I got off the http://8x8.com/Resources/Tools/VoIPTest.aspx site.   Not sure if that will help you but I will keep you posted as to what Comcast tells me.

  • Mini DV Camera - Get New or Fix Old

I have a Canon ZR-10 that I have had for 4 years. The first one I got had a fault the first week. It was a remove tape fault. I sent it back and got another one. I have had no problems with it since I have owned it the 4 years. Now I have a Please remove tape error and the motor sounds like it is having issues while ejecting the and inserting the tape. I has kind of a stuttering sound that it did not used to have.
I did a search on reviews and found a 2004 reviews on camcorderinfo.com. The JVC (HR-D33 or something) took first place for cameras under $600 (the cheapest mini DV ones made). It was rated the best because of its features and low light performance as well as good picture in good light. Right now I can buy that camera for around $255 on some discount online stores.
This brings me to my next question. Is that cheaper than repairing my old ZR. My fear is after reading some more about these cameras that errors are not uncommon. These things tend to break.
I looked at the newer ZR models and found a lot of the featerues on my old ZR-10 are not available on the newer ZR models such as the zr 200. Features like S-video, Viewfinder that pivots, Mic in. All these are on my ZR-10. So it may be worth it to get the old one fixed then to buy a new ZR. I do not need any still cabability. Mine can take stills but does not have a Card to store them on. This is fine. If I want to take stills I will use my digital still camera.
Another question I have is there a small camera in a little higher price range that will offer me a lot better bang for the buck and be more reliable. I am thinking maybe it has a larger CCD or a 3 CCD. I would like a prosumer camera like a GL-2 or VX2100 but know that is overkill and would probably be a waist of money for my needs. I know my ZR does not do the best in low light. Compatibility with the Mac is a must have.
What to do? Where is a good place to have my old camera looked at?

I don't know where to get your camera looked at, as I'm in the UK and you're probably not.
To get a camcorder taken apart and examined and then repaired may cost at minimum around $140. You may get a guarantee on the particular repair (..e.g; tape transport or loading/unloading..) but that guarantee probably won't extend to anything else which may go wrong (..dead mic, bad connector sockets, etc). The examination and repair may cost half the price of a new, guaranteed, camcorder.
In the 4 years since you got it, most cams have had improvements in the CCDs which are used. Most have higher resolution CCDs than were used 4 years ago ..mainly for taking higher resolution stills, which you won't bother with. However, the extra pixels available on those CCDs mean that although the resolution of DV video has stayed the same, the 'sharpness' and contrast of video which you can shoot this year can appear a little better than similar footage shot with an older camcorder. So a newer camcorder may (a) give less trouble over the next few years, and (b) may give better results than an older cam.
A 3 CCD camcorder generally gives a better quality picture than a single CCD cam. But you may not see the differences unless you're comparing like-for-like alongside each other, and it also depends on what and how you're shooting. If it's detailed, quite static shots - e.g; people looking at pictures indoors at an exhibition - a 3 CCD cam will probably give noticeably better results. But if you're shooting kids playing football outdoors in bright sunshine you may see no difference at all.
"..Compatibility with the Mac is a must have.." ..and the most reliably compatible are probably Sonys, with others - like Panasonic, Canon, etc - a close second, and JVC maybe third, and companies newer to photos and video - like Samsung - fourth or so.
So it'd probably give you more peace of mind and reliability to buy a new, mid-to-low-range Sony, something like this at about $399, than have your Canon repaired.
But that's only my view ..others may differ.
P.S: NOTE that in some countries, that camcorder (above) may have only DV OUT, and may not accept edited video back IN to store on tape. If so, the next higher model in the range will have DV IN as well as OUT.

  • Can't get BT to fix a line at new property, how to...

Since we moved address on the 7th March we have not had a working phone line, just a series of BT mistakes and delays.
    Series of events:
We booked a house move 3 weeks prior to moving on the 7th March
7th March we got a text saying your line has moved, but clearly hadn't as no dial tone
7th March contacted BT, who said yes your line has moved, and no we cant record a fault until midnight in case it hasnt been moved, the sort of twisted logic you have to fight through
8th March, finally got fault registered after arguing with a very unhelpful Indian call centre, who wouldn't believe we didnt have a line because it was showing as engaged - the fault as it turned out.
11th March - order BT infinity with a delivery date of the 26th March thinking is a simple problem.
13th March - Diagnostic shows it is a fault with the BT network,  two BT openreach engineers turn up, who detect the fault is in an underground cable 100 yards up the road, mark up the road and tell us they will report it to the dig team, should be later that week, early next week.
22nd March - After much chasing through the Indian call centre, who after explaining that we need to know when they are going to dig and fix the cable, are getting told such unhelpful things as have you tried a different phone in the socket. Finally get a call back to say the hole has been dug today to fix the trunking, the cable guys will arrive Monday. I explained that no digging had happened, to which she said she would get back to us.
25th March - Another phone call to tell us quite bluntly that the digging team had more important jobs, and as we are just a residental line the digging won't now happen until the 5th April. We ask if there is any point in sending the Infinity engineer out, and they want to do so anyway.
25th March - Cable guys turn up and point out the digging hadn't happened so they can't do anything. Nice to see they don't talk to each other either.
26th March - Infinity engineer turns up at our old address, and needs re-directing to us, says he needs a working phone line, but he will do what he can. Plugs in the box that did arrive at the new address, disappears for an hour and comes back to tell us the exchange equipment has been installed in the local exchange for the old address.
27th March - BT phone, no apology, just blame the engineer, re-arrange infinity for 12th April.
30th March - Talking to new neighbour he tells us that the cable was crushed by some digging work at the beginning of December 2012 and they had no phone line for December, until BT realised there were some working pairs in the crushed cable and switched them, then didn't bother to repair the cable. Leaving a nice little time bomb until we asked for a line.
5th April - As expected nothing happens.
8th April - No contact as yet.
I would like to cancel the whole lot and go with someone else, knowing they will still need to get Openreach to fix the line, but hopefully another provider that doesn't consider residental lines to be unimportant, and don't use hopeless Indian call centres. As BT have never delivered a working service from the beginning of the new contract they insist on when moving, how do I go about doing this?

i fully understand your frustration. it will not be a quick solution
on the 1ST OCT i ordered, from BT, a phone line connection together with there broadband package. This was to be re-installed into a farmhouse that i have been renovating. I ran a underground service duct from the existing pole into the house. It was my simplistic view that bt would simply send an engineer to run a line through my service duct and connect either end, SIMPLES!
At the end of Nov, and after a series of engineer no-shows, we get an engineer. Hooray this must be it. This engineer persuaded my wife to help him feed the wire through the duct, he then made the connection and declared that he would have to travel 6 miles to our local exchange to turn the line live. An hour later he returned and announced that he could not find any fault but that the line was not working.
I then made a series of phone calls to eventually get another engineer out in December. When he turned up he did not have a clue as to what he was to do. He thought he was there to simply connect the line. Eventually i managed to make him understand that the last engineer just gave up. This engineer did make some effort to problem solve. He dis-appeared in his van to climb some poles and look in some boxes. after a couple of hours he returned to announce that he thought there was a break in the line 500m away. he could not do anything about this and he would get someone to contact me with a solution
In February i then recieved a letter from BT saying that they were sorry that i had cancelled my order and that they would be refunding my money that i had already paid. I called them immediately to explain that i did not to cancel anything i just wanted a phone line.
Hey presto another engineer turned up. This guy seemed to be on the ball. After just 1 hour he had located the break in the line. He then marked on the road surface "BT DIG HERE" and left us saying that things would now get sorted
Weeks came and went and still no sign of action until i found they had refunded the cost of the installation directly back into my bank account!
So i called BT today. Apparently because i had not been using the phone line they had cancelled the order!
I am getting to the point where i am considering forgetting the phoneline. Satellite internet connection may be expensive but it seems that the speed is consistant and i do not have the painful experience of trying to deal with BT
Has anyone else had similar probelms with BT
Has anyone else gone down the internet over Satellite

  • N97 Mini can no longer be found on iPhoto.

hey, will some one kind enough to sort me out this ' dreadful problem , my N97 mini has been working fine with iPhoto, getting images/ videos off my phone, now when i plug it in, i click Mass storage and nothing on iPhoto changes, everything else works like finder, because the folders on the desktop, but i dont no what's happened, the only thing changed from other times is i have recently upgraded to snow leapard but i dont see how that could be the problem.

If you had iTunes set not to copy added recordings into its own library, then the files might be anywhere and justreferenced in iTunes. Only you could know where you put the originals, but if careful searching doesn't find them that suggests they've been deleted.
If it did copy the files but you have deleted the library from your 'Music/iTunes' folder then the songs are gone. Again, if searching produces no results then the songs would appear to be missing from your computer.
With no backups, and the songs deleted, they are lost. 'iTunes in the Cloud' might enable you to re-download songs you had purchased, but I doubt this works on Leopard, which your signature says you have.
