N97 mini dropped in water

Hello,I have dropped my n97 mini in water. After disassembling it (cause warranty is voided if liquid issue) and drying it the device runs ok except for the microphone, when I receive a call I can only hear, not speak.I took the phone at a nokia care point and they said that the microphone is embedded on the motherboard and can not replace it...How can I make n97 mini`s microphone work?

have removed the battery and cover, slide open the screen, exposing the QWERTY keyboard and put inside a container with silica gel and cover the container , to  try to remove the remaining water/moisture fromt he screen. and I shall say it is working!! the water stains look smaller ... hopefully in a few days time , it will remove all the water mosisture!
no need to dismantle anymore..

please help how could i fix my ipod mini dropped into the water.

There is no "true" fix for liquid damage.  It has been suggested by many to put your device into dry rice for about 3-4 days without trying to do anything on it....do not even power it on.  Once a device has liquid damage, it is just a matter of time before it has a failure.

  • N97 Mini water resistance

The N97 mini seems very susceptible to moisture.
I answered the phone when I was in the bath.. it stopped working.
One drop of water fell on it while I was using it open - I had to let it dry out for two days.
Can we treat wet phones with WD40, or use it to help prevent susceptibility to moisture?
When drying out a phone, what is the optimum or maximum temperature?
I am an electronic engineer, and I have seen computers working happily with the circuit boards dripping wet.
I sprayed a previous Nokia with aerosol car ignition sealer, but it wicked in to the phone and glued the battery, phone and battery cover together!

I think normal room temprature would be the best, as too much heat could damage the device more.

I suggested contacting Compub in Nassau St as the info is priceless and worth the trouble of trying to regain?
Any thoughts? The poor lady is very distress

If she has backed up her iPhone she can replace that iPhone and set up the new iPhone from her backup.
You can put the iPhone that went into water into a plastic baggie with either new silica gel packets (preferred) or raw rice and let it sit for  4 - 5 days. After that time remove the phone and connect it to power for at least a half hour. While it is still connected to power reset it by holding down the power and hold button, wait for the Apple logo then let go of the buttons. Might take several tries. If it revives immediately back it up.

  • N97 mini battery level drops suddenly

I've observed my N97 mini's battery level dropping abruptly from 4 bars to 1 bar (with low battery alarm). The phone's slightly more than a month old and using the latest 11.x.x firmware. Did a bit of googling, and found several suggestions on how to save battery (turn off everything 'smart' on ur phone). That's not the point anyways. I need to find out why the battery level drops suddenly (like what happens when ur battery's dying out), and *not* why the battery lasts X hrs. I'm not sure about this, but I think this mostly happens when the battery level is slightly below max, and I use any app that needs the GPS functionality. But then, there doesn't seem to be any problem with the GPS hardware in the phone, 'coz it usually gets a GPS lock in less than a minute (mostly within seconds). Could it be related to the algo used to show the battery level, or is it that its my battery that's faulty? Any others out there having the same problem?

It's understandable that the batterymeter is not linear (atleast the charge/discharge rates are not). But what bugs me are those sudden erratic drops within minutes (a couple of minutes at times). Anyone who has spent a few days with a dying (rechargeable) battery would know what I'm talking about. It's not a good feeling when u r away from a charge source, and you decide to use one of those power hungry things (like Wifi/GPS) thinking you still have sufficient juice left...and then bam! ... the low battery warning! you just switch off everything, and hope that it lasts till you reach the next oasis. I guess I'd have to analyze this a bit more to understand if its some specific app that causes such behaviour (as mentioned in my original post, i doubt the GPS apps currently). If it happens too often, and even with 'normal' voice+text kind of usage scenarios, its time see Nokia Care I guess. The reason for this post is to know if this behaviour is observed by other N97 mini users as well..then I know there's no point in taking it to Nokia Care.

  • Irregular N97 Mini screen issue?

I have had my N97 Mini for nearly two years. In that time, it has been a fairly trouble-free device. A few times it has seized, had some issues, and about 18 months ago the touch screen stopped working -- but it was repaired, and I have had no issues since. Until now.
About a week ago, my phone's screen started behaving oddly. I can't really describe it -- the display would overwhelm with static, it would distort irregularly... to describe the visuals, it looked a lot like interference. Flashes of green, things like that. I could, at times, see my homescreen background. But it would disappear as quickly as it came.
Even now, it is still responsive; the phone charges, responds to USB connection, and when I swipe the screen I can feel the vibrations of my homescreen content. When I flip it out, the keys still light up. Everything works fine.
I have not dropped my phone.
About a week or so prior to these complications, it was raining; a couple of droplets go on the screen but I cleaned them away. As far as I know, the phone was relatively dry; though if it was water damage, would it have responded sooner than a week after the phone was touched by water?
I honestly don't know what its problem is, how to fix it, what to do. Any suggestions or likely causes?

Suggest you to back-up your important data as soon as possible (if not yet done...) before something drastic happens. The effects of water damaged can be immediate to over a period of few monts, depending on how much water has gone inside and what parts were directly affected ... Get the phone inspected at Nokia care if you want but preferably opt for a new phone ...

  • Music Files and Memory Card On N97 mini

I,ve own my N97 mini for about a month now, been serving me well except for this problem...
I created a folder on the E:/ drive for storing musics I transfered via PC Siute but I noticed that I can't seem to find the onces I trasfered via Bluetooth. When I open the music player and refresh, it seems some of the musics are not added to it. When I open the folder I created for musics I see the songs there but when I go back to the music player it ain't there.
    What can be done?
I added an 8G memory card to my phone and it's been misbehaving. Problems ranging from slow boot up and opening of applications to this error NOT ENOUGH MEMORY PLEASE DELETE SOME DATA whenever I try to open the music player. I understand that N97 mini can take upto 16G memory card but how come 8G gives it problems?

Why on EARTH are you transferring music by Bluetooth ??? Simply connect the phone to your computer by usb cable in Mass Media mode. The phone will show in 'My Computer' as an external hard drive E. Open it and your music folder will be there. Then drag and drop any music you want FROM your computer TO the 'Music' folder on your phone, safely disconnect the phone from computer, go to music player and refresh music, that's all there is to it !!

Nokia do have too many handsets and I disagree with Sapporobaby as they actually use three or four mobile OS's which have to be developed for numerous differently configured devices. This causes all of the problems with the firmware upon release of a new device and just when Nokia have most of the bugs ironed out they move onto the next device only to have to start all over again. Apple only have one mobile OS supporting the iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch and a few legacy devices so when they roll out a new model their developers can focus on resolving issues in just one device. Don't get me wrong, I know iPhones are not perfect but Nokia could learn a lot from the way Apple develops software and services and good quality hardware will only get you so far in this market. Even in this area Nokia have been dropping the ball lately with poorly designed/manufactured devices like the N97 (lack of RAM, lack of c: drive, self-harming camera lens, poor GPS antennae, etc...)
So matt please don't chastise Nokia users with a Mac just because you got chastised by some apple fanboys.

    Hey froschy,
Long time mate. Hope things are going better with the N97 than before. I think I did not explain my position well, but actually I agree with everything you wrote. What I was trying to say is that while Nokia has multiple operating systems, they release hundreds of phones that share the same OS, i.e. E71, E90 or N85 and N86 and so on. Nokia can easily create a generic plugin across the board for these OS's with little or no effort but they have not done so. The fact that the N97 was (and still is a disaster in my opinion) should be proof positive to the Mac community that they are wasting their time on Nokia products. Or, they should realize that Nokia does not really care much for them and they should adjust accordingly. As I stated, I posted that the Mac community should forgo the N97 Mini until it is proven that there is support for this phone. Surely the N97 fiasco is a waking call that Nokia does not care about Mac, or at least not much. Any Mac user that purchases a Nokia phone without checking for support first has only him or herself to blame and should not come here complaining. There is a proven track record of incompetence on Nokia's part to look back on.

  • Problems after phones dropped in water.

lately my phones dropped in water for 30 mins long, after i noticed i immediately bring that to service center for repair but after repair my phones not working properly like before.the problem is bluetooth an error comes "Unable to perform Bluetooth operation" then wifi error "System error" i also cant restore the back-up and application settings from my MMC.
what can i do now?is there any way that i can fix my phone specially my MMC for back-up?
    Nokia E52 here.
    NOKIA E52-1
    034.001
    RM-469

Then you will slowly encounter more and more problems with your phone as the electronics corrode. The issue with the memory card is probably due to card reader or mainboard. The service centre will have to check to see which it is and replace as necessary.
Another option would be to try to restore the backup using Ovi Suite. You will need to transfer the backup from the memory card to your pc first and try it from there. This way you bypass the card reader.

  • LG Ally and One Drop of Water

My wife was using her new LG Ally phone (4 days old). She apparently had a drop of water on her finger and when she switched open the keyboard the phone went dead. We tried charging it and it came on but only had 4% charge.
We took it to a store and they said it had water damage. We thought that was crazy but after looking at the phone we realized that when you open the keypad your fingers are right over the connection of the battery to the phone. So one drop of water is all it took (crazy but true).
We let the phone sit for a day and a half while we contacted support. They basically said we were screwed (in a polite way) and that we would have to buy a new phone at full price. They did, however, tell us a canned story about dropping it in the toilet and putting it in rice to dry it out. That made me think I should try charging it again. And this time (a day and a half later) it seems to be charging normally. We didn't put it in rice (but we are talking about a drop of water) but I'll probably do that as well just to be on the safe side. Support also asked if we had the phone in the bathroom while taking a shower which makes me think that this phone (all smart phones?) is very sensitive to moisture in the air.
When we got the phone I looked into getting a cover for it. I found some plastic back covers but I didn't understand why you would want that. But after this I'm thinking that it is needed to keep water away from the battery.
Just FYI. I'd never try to use this phone on a rainy day.

Is it working OK now? Did your indicators turn pink? By the battery, where it should be red X's, it turns pink when it gets wet. If that happens, Verizon will not replace it under the manufacturer's warranty, but I believe Assurion does if you have insurance (which you can still add if it's within 30 days).
Yes, smart phones are definitely more sensitive to moisture. I don't even take mine into the bathroom with me while showering. And ever since I got caught in a rainstorm at a concert, I put my phone in a Ziploc bag if I'm in an outdoor situation where that could happen.
If it ever gets wet, immediately shut it off and pull out the battery. Place the phone and battery separately in a bag of uncooked rice for 1-2 days before even attempting to turn it on. (That's for, say, dropping it in a glass of beer ... a drop is probably OK.) I know it's hard to wait that long, but turning it on and charging are the worst things you can do. The moisture can corrode the battery and insides of the phone when the battery is connected. (Some people suggest using a hair dryer to blow out the water, but I would not do that ... the heat can ruin it, and the air can blow the water farther into the phone.)
I hope it's working and all is well! Thanks for giving others the heads-up.

alsoo.. can i claim warranty for this? ( i have around 11 months left)

    Hi there!
To fix the problem, you can try the following:
Check that your device has SIM card properly inserted and that the device is not in the offline mode. When in offline mode, the device has limited WLAN functionality and may not find e.g. the hidden WLAN networks.
Check that you are under the coverage of the WLAN network. Enable 'Show WLAN availability' in the Wireless LAN settings of the device. When this setting is enabled, you should be able to see an indication when a WLAN network is available. You can also use the Connection mgr. or WLAN tool in your device to check which WLAN networks your device is currently seeing.
Check that the WLAN access point is properly configured in the connectivity settings of your device and that the WLAN security settings match with the settings of your WLAN network. The WLAN networks are typically configured with some sort of security enabled (WEP, 802.1x, WPA/WPA2) and it is important that the corresponding security settings are defined in your mobile device.
If you have other devices already successfully connecting through WLAN, check and compare that the same WLAN security settings are used in your mobile device.
Check that the correct access point is used when trying to connect to WLAN. Go to the web browser settings and select the WLAN access point or destination which has been defined in your device. Try to connect to a web site and check with the Connection mgr. tool if the WLAN connection becomes active.
If your device is using destinations (groups of access points) instead of single access points in the connectivity settings, check that the WLAN access point is at the top of the list in the destination settings (otherwise the device will try to connect through an access point which is higher up in the priority list).
If you are not able to connect to WLAN even though the WLAN settings are properly configured, reset the WLAN access point (WLAN router) to default (factory) settings and begin defining the wireless network again so that there are no security features, no hidden ssid, no mac filtering, etc. This way you can troubleshoot at which point the gateway error appears.
Disable Bluetooth connectivity in your device while being connected to WLAN. Bluetooth and WLAN operate on the same frequency range and may interfere with each other.
Restore(reset) your mobile device back to original (factory) settings. You can do this from general settings of your device. Please see more detailed instructions from your device user guide. Note: It is recommended to backup the device before resetting it.
Check that your WLAN network is configured to deliver IP address automatically via DHCP to the connected devices. The mobile devices are by default configured for automatic IP and DNS address retrieval from DHCP server. This is the default mode in most WLAN environments but if using fixed IP addresses, you need to configure the addresses manually in the advanced level settings of your phone (phone IP address, subnet mask, default gateway, DNS addresses).
Check that there are free IP addresses in the address pool of your WLAN DHCP server. If there are other devices already connected to your WLAN (e.g. PCs), all the available IP addresses may already be reserved and the phone doesn't get an IP address allocated to it. Add more IP addresses in your DHCP server settings or release an IP address from another WLAN connected device. Note that switching off the device doesn't yet release the IP address, you should release the address manually (e.g with "ipconfig /release" command in Windows PC) or wait for the IP address lease to expire (which can typically take a few hours).
Check that your WLAN environment is not configured to filter the access based on the device MAC address. If using MAC based filtering, the MAC address of your mobile device must be added in the filter list. The WLAN MAC address of your phone can be checked by typing command *#62209526#.
    Hope tis' help!

  • N97 mini. Battery prob

    Hi all.
First i want to know the latest firmware for n97 mini. In ma phone it shows 11.0.045*. But when i ho n search on site for updates this is the line "Latest software release for Nokia N97 Mini is 12.0.110 *". When i updated using ma pc through nokia software updater i got this version as latest  "11.0.045*". The reason y i want to do update is.
The problem is when ever i make a call or recieve a call the battery goes down to single point n the mobile shows the battery low msg n shuts off. Its real pain in **bleep**. It works fine when not making or recieving calls. To my surprise i have observed tht the battery runs out immediately when using idea sim, drains lil slow with airtel, vodafone and satys for 24 hrs with docomo sim inside. Can any one let me know atleast wat is the problem.
    Thanks n regards.

There are rumours that V12 for the N97 mini is imminent now that V22 has been released for the N97. However, I have not seen it yet and even if it is released today, it may be weeks and even months before all product codes gets it.
I have commented on your other issues in another post.

  • N97 mini not BT with anything

OK i've just upgraded from N95 8gb to N97 mini. Great I thought I'll have no issues with paring and making calls with JVC car kit. Now my N95 worked perfectly with no dropped calls and it could stream audio and video to the JVC unit all day long with no issues...
    I have a few questions.
    The JVC has:-
    HFP (hands free profile) 1.5
    OPP (object push profile) 1.1
A2DP (advanced audio distribution profile) 1.2
AVRCP (audio/video remote control profile) 1.3
What has changed in the N97 from the N95 that none of this no longer works and more importantly how can I resolve this with phone software updates?? Is there anywhere on the planet that can make software's/apps to solve these gripes until BT is standardized??
Also I'm not interested in contacting Nokia as they'll do noting for me but when could I find the MD's email address as this option usually works alot better and faster from experience..

It would be nice to know if this phone works Bt with anything. I coonot connect to my HP notebook either!!! This is something never ever happened..tried USB, it works occasionally.

  • Flashing of Mail Box sign in N97 Mini

In spite of reading all msgs the sign of Msg Box is flasing continously.
How do I transfer  songs to sim card to that more memory is avilable for contacts

Have you checked that you don't have any SIM messages? Go to the messaging app and open options ->sim messages-> delete what's in there if you don't need them.
You cannot transfer songs to the simcard. What you can do and should do is using the mass memory or a memorycard for songs. By connecting your N97 mini to pc by cable or bluetooth - choose mass storage mode and just drag and drop files over to E or F disk.

  • N97 Mini with Ovi Suite 2 unable to transfer anyth...

Hi. My wife has just got the new N97 Mini. It has the latest firmware and the Ovi suite is the latest version. The problem is I installed Ovi Suite and it asked me to connect mt device, so I plugged in the supplied USB cable, My windows vista said new device and started updating drivers,  it then said there was a problem and then the sevice layer in windows said  there a a incompatibility with the device driver, in windows device manager there were 2 entries for the n97 mini, one of them had a yellow excalamation mark next to it. Ovi suite said it had detected the phone but I can not move anything onto the phone, I then uninstalled Ovi suite and tried to connect via bluetooth, the connection seems to be fine as windows device manager only has 1 entry, and Ovi suite detected the phone, how ever I stiil cannot move any files onto the phone, the only way to move files to the phone is to select mass storage and then I can drag and drop using windows. Any help would be great. Thanks.

    Hi pearsonquinn,
    Could you check following:
    - System information (Help - About Nokia Ovi Suite - System information - Copy text to clipboard)
    - N97 mini SW version
    - PC model
    - Can you see the phone icon in Nokia Ovi Suite main page?
    - Are messages and photos visible in Ovi Suite?
    - Can you transfer files to portable device visible in My computer?
    - Could you attach screenshots of following situations you are describing:
" ...the sevice layer in windows said there a a incompatibility with the device driver..."
    and
" ...windows device manager there were 2 entries for the n97 mini, one of them had a yellow excalamation mark next to it. Ovi suite said it had detected the phone but I can not move anything onto the phone, .."
