N97 Mini questions

Hi Ive just got a few questions
is there a way to turn the vibration off for when you lock the keys using the slide button but keep vibration fr when receiving alerts?
is there a way to increase the vibration so its more noticable?
Is there a way to have the battery life show as a percentage rather then as bars on the homescreen?
Is there a way to increase batterry life?
Is there an emergency charger that is compatible with the N97 mini ?
I have seen small memory cards such as these http://www.foneshop.com/nokia/n97-mini/memory-cards/sandisk-16gb-micro-sd-transflash-memory-card
are these the type that are used in N97 minis?
My n97 mini currently has an 8GB memory card i believe, can I install a 16GB card into it? will that effect anything badly?
How would I go about that? Is there an easy way to transfer all the data between those memory cards?
Is there an application for the N97 mini that will track busses (i live in York UK so i would mostly be interested in busses there)

Well I only got the phone yesterday, so I'm not exactly an expert ;-)
But some I can answer.
Battery life. If you're not using the features, consider keeping WLAN and BlueTooth OFF. Dont check mail automatically too often (and perhaps only in daytime) et cetera
The phone is charged through a standard micro-usb-plug. So should be easy to find alternative chargers.
Yep, thats the type. Standard Micro-sd(hc) ...alias transflash
The 8GB is build in mem, not a card. So YES a 16GBworks and is usefull, and supplements the 8Gb, giving you a total of 24Gb.
Plain files (Like photos, videos, mp3's) can be transfered e.g. by standard windows if connected in mass storage mode. Some apps (Like Ovi maps, needs to be told the prefered storage location in the app-settings)
And on the vibration, I dont think there is much hope on the extremely (close to useless) weak vibrator. I THINK it's due to a conventinal placement on a slim body.

  • N97 mini: questions on emails

    Hi all,
I have a few questions: what sort of email client does the N97 mini come with? Does it connect to email servers via IMAP idle? More specifically:
    1) if I delete an email from my Nokia, will it be deleted from the server, as well?
    2) when I send an email from my Nokia, is it possible to upload that email to the 'Sent' folder of my email server?
My email server supports POP, IMAP and IMAP idle - it's not an Exchange server.
With the E71, the only way I found to do the two things above was with Profimail, which is a great software but doesn't integrate in the home screen.
    Thanks!

    1. You have an option in the User settings of your mailbox on the phone, from your inbox > options > e-mail settings > User settings > E-mail deletion select Phone and server.
    2. It automatically refelects in the sent items folder of the mail server also its stored in the sent items on the phone.
Thanks a lot! So it seems there isn't much of a point in installing a third party email client like Profimail any more...
Can I ask a few more details, if you don't mind?
Does Nokia messaging work over wi fi, too? For example, if I connect to a wireless router, would emails work normally, like for the E71, for instance?
Does Nokia messaging connect via imap idle only? Or does Nokia send some sort of hidden sms to the phone when it receives an email, prompting it to connect to the server?
If I delete an email when there's no signal, it will be deleted from the server as soon as the phone picks up a signal again, right?

  • N97 mini: a few questions (touchscreen, battery, k...

    Hi all,
I have a few questions on the N97 mini I was hoping you guys could help me with:
touchscreen and navigation arrows: if I choose to, can I avoid to use the touchscreen and resort to the arrows in the keyboard? For example, to navigate in a web page
battery life: what's your experience so far?
keyboard: I understand this is very subjective, but how are you finding it? I hate to type on touchscreens. Do you find it convenient or is it annoying to open the sliding keyboard every single time?
I am considering moving from the E71 to the N97 mini, because an operator has a pretty good deal on it, and because I'd like a bigger keyboard and bigger screen, even though I understand this comes at the price of reduced battery life.

I have N97 and fully drain it before the end of the day and so have a spare battery, this is not because the phone or battery are bad ! It's because I am constantly using it, I have apps running all the time, watch video every lunch time, browse the web whenever I get a spare 5 minutes, txt and e-mail and even make the occasional call !! Lol
I have never used a phone as much as this one and was very 'anti touchscreen' before I got it, and only took the chance brcause of physical keypad, but I wouldn't go back, not saying E-series aren't good phones but 'fun factor' on a larger touch screen is massively more. Plus it will still do all the 'normal 'stuff fine. Give it a go

  • Questions on N97 Mini's GPS

I was wondering if there was a dedicated GPS on the Nokia n97 mini?
because i don't have an unlimited data plan and I was wondering if you could just use a GPS onboard instead of the aGPS
and when I am connected to a wi-fi network, the GPS still won't lock on... any solutions to that?

load the required maps via nokia map loader and on ur n97 mini  settings>phone>app sett>positioning methods to and Integrated GPS (dnt select Bluetooth GPS Assisted GPS & Network based) and ur done but offcorse it depends on ur GPS fix (Ovi Maps 3.x is now giving free navigation) dnt forget to hit Kudos!

  • Nokia N97 mini firmware

First of all I would like to excuse me for my bad English as I am from Latvia!
Recently I have bought a new Nokia N97 mini. I have backed up everything and written down all the name of software that I afterwards uninstalled as I thought that it would be better for firmware update process. My goal was to update the phone to the newest firmware for my phone, however I got into problems with all the versions available.
So this is the information on my mobile phone:
    Software version: v 11.0.102
    Software version date: 01-02-2010
    Custom version: 11.0.102.C01.01
    Custom version date: 01-02-2010
    Language set: 13
    Model: N97 mini
    Type: RM-555
    Latest update: Not updated
    >What I understand is that that some custom firmware version is installed there. I should mention that it is brand new and right out of box from Finland so I don`t think that anyone would have made custom version, installed it and repacked the phone.
When I use Nokia Software Updater in my PC (MS Win 7) I got informed about that that the latest possible version is already installed.
When I use Nokia web site using my telephone code written under the battery I got informed that latest available software for my device is: 10.0.020, however in phone there is version 11.0.102.C01.01 installed.
When I was looking for the latest software release for Nokia N97 Mini it was 12.0.110, however there was mentioned that it is only for certain devices.
So the question is if the latest firmware (12.0.110) version custom package is available for my device. If it is possible that there in my device there is a newer custom version (11.0.102.C01.01) installed than my Nokia N97 mini device support (10.0.020) than it should be possible that there is some newer custom firmware (12.0.110) available for my phone.
    =============================================================
So where can I obtain it? And speaking generally were (exact internet address of FTP or HTTP protocol handled server, with login information, if needed) all Nokia N97 mini firmware`s could be found? I would even try to install non-customized version 12.0.110 of it on my phone. Maybe I don`t even need any custom version and all Nokia N97 mini devices can handle any Nokia N97 mini firmware?

I can clearly live without Latvian language and as it is well known that there is no special or no at all services or applications for Latvia region that I could miss. I would better use United Kingdom apps and turn off some really unnecessary services or news.
I would`t reply if there were nothing at all from Latvia in phone. I just need to get it work faster and with less problems form software side. I could use any Nokia N97 mini update version that doesn`t have "Comes with music" services and apps as I don`t have license to it.

  • Nokia HF-510 and N97 mini

Hi, just a quick question... is the HF-510 compatible with the N97 Mini, it's not listed as a compatible device and wanted to check before buying.
    Thanks in advance!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I’ve a Nokia HF-510 Bluetooth speakerphone paired with my N97 mini. After having used voice dialling all too often when I try to make a second call the phone will not find a match or make any suggestions, this error can only be cleared by turning the speakerphone off and on again at which point a match is found first time. The phone software is up to date, software in the speakerphone is vers. 1.0. Anyone else have this problem?

  • N97 mini maps problem !

hi all, i have a n97 mini and i hard formated it then i loaded all software now i can't enter my maps, after i open, it s closing in 1-2 seconds i don't understand what's going on :/ pls help help help me

    @behzatkara
    Welcome to the forum!
Regrettably neither of the two previous posts appear to address your issue with one under the misapprehension that you are using N97 where phone memory is certainly a problem instead of N97 Mini in question.
It is more likely here that you have corrupt map data, which is the commonest  cause of OVI Maps crashing upon opening! When you updated OVI Maps application to latest v3.06 it needs to delete previous 0.1.25.114 map data used by v3.04 to make way for 0.2.42.122 map set. Whilst there is a message saying that old map data will need to be removed, it requires confirmation by the user.
Suggest that you try deleting E:\Cities + .qf file, re-start OVI Maps application upon device to re-initialise application and re-create necessary folder structure. You now have option of downloading regional maps using either "Update" feature within application upon device via WLAN access point or use OVI Suite > Maps as previously if so preferred.

  • N97 mini: folder setting for image gallery / photo...

Hi I've just got a simple question: is it possible to choose the images folder(s) which are shown in photobrowser or image gallery on a n97 mini?
now it shows all the images on my device/mass storage/sdhc card, and I don't want that to happen. I want to be able to choose the folders which are shown. now it also shows all icons of my pois inthere, so i've got over 400 images (all images which are used by programs) while there are only about 50 files in the images folder.
now i have to scroll through 350 images which i don't need, just to find 1 photo i want to use as a background.
hoping that there will be a software update which allows for changing these settings, so that it only shows the folders I want to use.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You can use X-plore from "lonelycatgames" , to hide an entire folder, but those images are used by programs this would be of no use.
If you are interested to know how:
1ownload and install X-plore, their website, (trial works as good as full, with a just a splash screen at startup)
2: Open it, Create a folder any where on memory card. Or if you know the folders where "those 400" pictures reside, navigate to it.
3: click Options>file>attributes>and tick "Hidden" it'll ask "Do you want to edit attributes of all file in this folder?" click yes.
Now all the file in a particular folder are hidden, so they won't show up in gallery.

  • N97 mini key lock problem

    Hi there NSeries experts!
I couldn´t find a topic related to my question,
    so here´s my post:
I´ve got a little problem with my N97 mini
    (type "RM-555" software-version: "11.0.102"):
The key lock button at the side of the phone
does not work properly in my eyes.
Sometimes - yes, it does not show up every
time you use it, only in about 50 % of usage -
when you use the button it works "back and
forth". That means, if you wanna lock the phone
it gets locked and then directly unlocked again,
although the button has only been used once.
Same thing sometimes the other way round:
The phone is locked, the button is used, the
phone unlocks and directely locks itself again.
It is not the worst bug I can imagine but after
a while it is quite annoying.
Does anyone have an idea what this is all
about? Do you think it is more likely some
hardware defect or rather more a software
    bug?
    Thanks for any help!
If you need further Info about the phone,
    software etc. just tell me...
    Tom.

Then if you want to try everthing before going to nokia, first try reset *#7370# , backup your data first. Still no success? Reflash with same firmware version via NSU. (back up your data in both cases)

  • N97 mini not BT with anything

OK i've just upgraded from N95 8gb to N97 mini. Great I thought I'll have no issues with paring and making calls with JVC car kit. Now my N95 worked perfectly with no dropped calls and it could stream audio and video to the JVC unit all day long with no issues...
    I have a few questions.
    The JVC has:-
    HFP (hands free profile) 1.5
    OPP (object push profile) 1.1
A2DP (advanced audio distribution profile) 1.2
AVRCP (audio/video remote control profile) 1.3
What has changed in the N97 from the N95 that none of this no longer works and more importantly how can I resolve this with phone software updates?? Is there anywhere on the planet that can make software's/apps to solve these gripes until BT is standardized??
Also I'm not interested in contacting Nokia as they'll do noting for me but when could I find the MD's email address as this option usually works alot better and faster from experience..

It would be nice to know if this phone works Bt with anything. I coonot connect to my HP notebook either!!! This is something never ever happened..tried USB, it works occasionally.
To expensive phone nort worth it

  • N97 mini further updates (udates after v12.0.110)?...

Since jul 2010 n97 mini has recieved no updates .... many apps in it are now outdated like
    1. music player
    2. browser.
    3. top apps dont work.
    4. no interface improvement... like slow ks
    5. etc...etc..
all other phone like my dads 5800 xm has recieved about 3 new updates.... all bringing improvement to the phone.....
    please Nokia do something...
and i request a honest reply by a Nokia person on this post pls... also the tentative dates for update...

If you want a reply from Nokia then  you have to ask Nokia, not post a question on a forum populated by other users of Nokia products like yourself.
The general consensus among users here is, however, that the N97 and N97 mini are abandoned products. They've not been updated since July and August 2010 respectively.
On the other hand, I did recently see a page on a Nokia site saying that some piece or other of software that they were pushing did require PR2.x (V2x) on the N97 mini and PR3.x (V3x) on the N97 to work correctly. Would Nokia be releasing software that will never run on phones because the required firmware will never be released? It would be a bit stupid, although I wouldn't put it past them.

  • N97 Mini vs E72

    N97 Mini vs E72
Not sure if i should post this question just here or post it both here and in the E series sub forum, i'll post it in both just in case....
    N97 Mini Pros
    Touch Screen
    Bigger Screen
    Fold out keypad
    30fps Video (VGA) quality
    5mp Carl Zies lens
Dual Flash (flash for video and flash for photos)
    E72 Pros
    600mhz cpu
    Mega 3G (Next G access)
Symbian 3rd (More apps available eg coreplayer)
    Bigger Battery/Longer life.
Now i have the E72, but i've been trying to talk my wife into having the N97 mini, but she says why don't I have the N87 and she can have my E72, well for me, it's literally a coin toss, they both have features i Like, both have the mandatory 5mp camera, both have wifi, compass, gps all the high end features... but the N97 mini offers a nice big keyboard where as the E72 does not but the E72 offers extra frequencies which work with high speed on other networks.
So for me it comes down to build quality and i can't fault the E72, in all honesty if I had of just bought an N97 mini (instead ot the E72 just 1 week ago) i'd probably wish to keep the N97 mini...
So i have an E72 1 week old,, and my wife's contract ends in only a couple of months, so now were looking at an upgrade for her...   have no idea which i prefer, anyone got both or played with both the E72 and the N97 mini, what's your advice?... i can't really fault the E72, im scared the N97 mini will break in 10 minutes....

I could not agree with you more about how similar the E71 is to the E72, for example I can charge the phone, go bed, leaving the "breathe" light on if you've seen that, it lights up every 10 seconds or so then slowly fades out ... but anyway come 8 hours later, I thought let's just plug it into charge see how much power's actually lost, plugged it in, beep, finished charging please remove.... i mean wow, amazing.....  so i got curious made a phone call browsed a few sites sent an sms then plugged it in, again it was still fully charged...
Wonderful phone, not to mention Drive C is 250meg nand memory, i've got 200+ meg left with about 30 apps installed, i'd not even get close to that on the N95 or 6710, it's yet to crash, it froze once but that was my own fault for not knowing what i was doing with the scummvm emulator btw - curse of monkey island runs perfectly but the optical keypad has to be held down while you click up/down/left/right (basically all around your thumb while keeping it pressed) but lol anyway...
It's a great phone, but then i think about the touch screen, bigger screen for playing videos on then i remember apps like coreplayer wont run properly on it, but then i think ah but the nice big keyboard for internet browsing then i think but ah battery life....
Maybe I'll wait for the N900 lol, but then there wont be Video Calling support, no compass, no ability (as of yet) to assign pics or is it videos to callers in contacts... but the N900 does have the ability to play divx...
BLAHHHH... Nokia do us all a favor add native support for DivX over UPNP/DLNA the N97 Mini would  be as near perfect ... but then i think to myself, web browsing, the N97 only has a 420mhz cpu and Adobe requires 500mhz for their new flash applications hopefully due this year.... that rules out the N97, back to the E72, yes it will run it but it will be a let down on the small screen LOL...
Then i start thinking about the N95 with it's omap and dedicated 3D GPU, and how that can play quake 3 and yet 5 years later their flagship N97 does not even come close, now we have other manufactures with either 1ghz snapdragon cpu's or CPU's with GPU's ....
So the perfect phone from Nokia would be.
    N98 - Specs
    *8Mpix camera
*C Drive with 250meg of NAND memory,
*Querty Keyboard, but make sure 4 rows down, with `1234567890-= number keys at the top.
    *16gig-32gig
*600 mhz (min) with a GPU, eg Omap or even a Tegra CPU with GPU or SnapDragon, or eventually an Atom to compete with Apple's Iphone for Games.
    *GPS
    *Wifi
    *Compass
    *Acclerometer
    *Touch Screen
*Native DivX support in conjunection with UPNP
*Dual flash (but no biggy) make sure camera cover
    *Large battery 1.5amp/h at least
    *128meg of RAM
Put a lot of effort into making sure that everything can be turned off widget wise remove any fluff that's not needed on startup let the user install the apps don't assume keep the power
consumption as low as possible, go speak to the guys who do the E series they have this
done perfectly.... don't get it to automatically get email just make sure all energy hungry apps are off as default, this way people don't need to spend 2 hours changing settings instead they can spend just 1 hour enabling what they want.
And 1 more thing, filesharing, it would be nice to be able to map a drive over the network rather
than having to create a webserver to do the job.
And if you did all that, you'd have the ultimate flagship device.... the N900 is about 80% away from perfect in terms of what it should be able to do, if not for lacking the compass and a couple of other things it would be damn near perfect.

  • N97 vs N97 Mini vs 5800

Hi all, First time posting on here. Have had a look through various threads and can't find a similar one. I have an N97 (Vodafone, Ireland, FW 21.0.045) and like many people am driven mad by the GPS. It's the usual problems - phone takes ages to get a signal which is then jumpy and inaccurate or else just about 500 metres behind me all the time, which isn't much use! From what I've read online I gather this is a hardware problem. Brought it to a Nokia Service Centre in Dublin but they just did an "internal software update" which appears to be to the same version it was on. My wife has a 5800 and the GPS is excellent on that compared to mine. Quick signal fix and retains it once it has a signal! My question: Does the N97 Mini suffer similar problems as the N97 on GPS? Is my better bet to keep returning the N97 to service centre until it works, or should I "downgrade" to the N97 Mini and sacrifice whatever losses there are (battery life and FM transmitter from what I can see)? Does GPS work fine (ideally as good as the 5800) on an N97 Mini in general, or does it have its own list of problems? Any advice much appreciated, thanks!

Nokia released a new cover for the back of the n97 with a better GPS receiver, its the same cover that does not scratch the lens. Go get that. It should be free, but I hear some Care Centers charge for it.

  • N97 Mini - Does nokia have any plans to update??? ...

I have a very simple question.
does nokia still support this phone?
I have always been an avid nokia supporter, but, recently, i have started to question my loyalty.
I, like many thousands of other n97 mini users paid a lot of money for the phone, yet, we seem to be left high and dry... there has been no improvements added for the phone since the last firmware update, no additions.. nada.
are we all expected to keep this phone with the lousy 12.*.* software and get nothing but a slow, almost useless phone?  or are we going to get some kind of update?
or has it gotten to that time when we all say Hi Android?????

If I remember correctly, the last update was supposed to be an "interim" update until the next version/release came out. For what it's worth, since nothing has been forthcoming from Nokia, I've installed N-Desk which installs a much improved desktop application, similar to the I-phone's, and Maze Lock which provides an easier to use locking application. With both of these installed, you have a more consistent, easier to use interface. Enough so my wife has stopped complaining about how long it takes to get something done on the phone.
I still hope Nokia will come out with another release in the near future.
    I hope this helps.

  • N97 mini Hang-up, sudden reboots, touch screen non...

Malfunctioning started 5-6 months after purchase.
At first few times no any possibility to answer a call - sliding on screen when keys locked or touching answer screen button, or green button after display/key unlock did not worked.
Only possibility to talk with caller - call back immediately (it works) an excuse for that problem.
Lately phone started to reboot after ending calls or after (or while) using as internet connection modem. Or sometimes rebooted by itself just standing by on table...
Sometimes keyboard does not work, working only screen.
Then become next problem - or touch-screen does not respond or respond awkward or totally different as should.
Then touch-screen malfunction together with keyboard not functioning.
After a month spent at sellers repair first 3 days - everything worked as should. I started to believe - problems gone, but that happiness was only for three days..
Question - is this model is most buggy faulty or so? Nearly 400 EUR for top series N class disaster is quite a big money... How nokia thinks to solve this problem? As I understood I'm not the one and only with that big list of problems for 400 EUR...
    Nokia 1611, 2210, 3110, 5110, 6210, 6310, 6310i (up to these models totally satisfied)
Then don't remember model, then E50 (mostly happy), then N97 mini - phone with briliant keyboard, but poor touchscreen, then business phone E07, phone that can not make a photo of contract, invoice or business card. poor design of usb port and 5 months at service did it - my nowadays phone is Apple. Company gave me Asha 300, so frustrating, that I use my old E50 instead...

Yesterday evening I gave back my faulty item to repair center. They said that, previously service center most likely couldn't find the cause of problem and just renewed the firmware.
Strangely - Yesterday morning talk with Nokia Customer care center figured out, that there were NO ANY registered repair or update action made by authorized service (and must be  registered). May be nothing was done or service center is not so "official".
Thank Good, yesterday the phone showed up the malfunction and guy said - most likely it is resistive touch sensor problem that should be replaced, because it after some time wears out or is tended to bend or so - so it becomes malfunctioning and should be replaced...
Strange - if the phone costs ~400 EUR the touch-screen sensor should be more wear-tear, bend or any problem resistant to average phone use conditions. To face this problem every 3 to 9 months - doesn't seams to be fair offer for that price...
Today I was promised to have a call from service - within what time phone will be back to me at working order... Still waiting.
    Nokia 1611, 2210, 3110, 5110, 6210, 6310, 6310i (up to these models totally satisfied)
