N97 New Firmware coming 1st July 2009

Everyone take a big sigh of relief because I have good word that the N97 is getting it's first firmware update this Wednesday.
Not sure what time and what'll be fixed but fingers crossed, most of the common bugs will disappear!

I am sure you guys are all interested to know how testing has been going, and we are pleased to report that at the labs the new fw is ready, and we are finalising the upgrade and distribution method ready for this Wednesday
There have been over 100 fixes and improvements, I shall cover the main ones:
the lock/unlock/backlight bug has been fixed. This was caused by the handset not reporting autolock correctly and thought it was still unlocked, despite the backlight being switched off which is independant. When users were trying to unlock their handset, they were infact locking it, and then unlocking it.
There have been some subtle changes to the way the interface responds. For example, the phonebook now has kinetic scrolling, and swiping the screen sideways to hide the homescreen has been taken further, so that swiping when in primary functions such as phonebook, application menu and a few others will revert the screen back. This is also the case for the web browser. The way the home screen and main menus were rendered has also been refined. Screens will load up quicker, and the phone will use idle time between user presses to load items just off screen, scrolling is also much improved by this.
Nokia Maps application has been given a new look, while positioning accuracy has been improved. The time taken from starting the application to getting a lock has been improved, with times around 8 seconds or less when in combination with A-GPS. The door-to-door has also been improved, with walking routes giving audio feedback as well, direct to house.
When the phone went through different primary connections for data, such as 3g packet, or Wifi, certain widgets became stuck in a loop where they continuously recieving a null from the previous connection method. The phone has a new feature for developers that 'shouts' when a connection is changed, in addition to lost. The widgets have been updated accordingly and we have updated our knowledge base accordingly.
When large videos were played through quickly, sometimes the screen went black as the video information could not sync up with the raw video data quick enough. This was especially apparent when skipping through multiple videos quickly. This has been addressed by caching the first 30 frames of each video before allowing playback to commence and we have had no problems of this kind.
Community made applications that began on phone start up, and then got stuck in an error loop were unable to terminate or uninstall. We have addressed this by adding a terminate now feature to the application menu. When switching application, holding down on the application will display the option to do so.
The pictures and video clips made with the phone sometimes did not update in the photo/video library after files had been manually added via a transfer. This was due to the way in which files were counted and stored by phone conflicting with the number of files present on the device and has been resolved.
Text messaging now has the option to confirm sending once the green button/send button is pressed. An option was also added to prevent accidental sending of blank messages.
The symbols menu has been updated to include french, german and spanish special characters.
H264 decoding is now supported! The ovi suite has also been updated to automaticly convert most common video formats to the native phone display resolution and format.
And a big one last for you guys...
Multitouch support has been added. The paint application has been updated to show this in practical use, and photos can be zoomed in and out by squashing or streching the image. Again the knowledge base was updated to provide developers the new input fuction should they wish to take advantage.

Sounds good!

  • N97, new firmware, new messaging, will not automat...

Hi, in the weekend I upgraded my N97 to the new firmware 12, and also reinstalled the latest version of Nokia Messaging with html support.
Html support is great, however my new problem is that it does not automatically get new emails (it is configured for gmail over imap) like it used to. I have to manually choose send/receive.
I am pretty sure I have all the settings right.Sync is enabled in the inbox, application startup is on automatic, hours is set to on all day, send and recieve is set to soonest, just like how it was last week when it worked.
Not sure if the problem is related to the firmware or the new messaging. Probably the messaging. Any ideas?

  • Nokia E71 - New Firmware Released 2nd July - Vr 30...

    Hi All
If you didn't know already a new firmware for the Nokie E71 was released yesterday.
I have updated mine this afternoon, and it looks good so far. The only thing I have initally noticed that a Myspace Facebook and Youtube application has appeared.
As for the other improvements at the moment they must all be in the background. The handset is much faster though.
My handset is a UK Model, Unbranded and SIM Free, so not all network operator will have approved the update as yet. As always if you cannot update then its generally because the firmware for your operator or region has not yet been approved.
    Shunts...
I will mostly be communicating with a Nokia E72 Zodium Black

It is not possible to update between Feature Packs.
My GPS is working fine, along with my maps.
If you are restoreing from a backup, you can find that somethings will not install correctly. I normally only restore stuff that I actually need to keep such as contacts etc, and install everything else anew, or resync with Mail for Exchange.
I notice that stability has also improved.

  • N97 New Firmware - Feedback.

The new Firmware has imparted stability to N97. I'd series of issues with my cell phone, not to mention, most of them were related to bugs and unexpected errors. For example, the moment I used to try to zoom the picture, it often took me back to the main screen.
This new Firmware has apparently addressed this issue. However, pictures are taking too long to open, If I try to open a picture it's taking around 4 seconds to display. Also the slides doesn't load automatically as long as I don't give it ample time. This is just trigging me off.
I'd N79 which I sold to buy N97. N79 comparatively had very delicate picture preview that was quite fast and elegant. It seems to be an absolute embarrassment to give your N97 to someone and ask her to see the album as it will just cross her with sluggish response.
Also, when you're typing a message, using onscreen key board, it often halts and then releases number of alphabets simultaneously. I don't know what we can expect in next Firmware.

Choppy kenitic scrolling in some places.
UI doesn't look like it has a lot of improvement..
    Not much change (Y)
    n97.

  • E5400 Smart WiFi new firmware coming?

With all the issues that have presented themselves in this forum, when will new Smart Wi Fi firmware be released to address some of the issues?  The last release was November 2012 which seems to be the same for both the 4200 and 4500 router.

No one can really say when Linksys will release a new firmware for this router. Hopefully it would be soon to address issues that were experienced with this router. Best ways to know is either visit and check their website from time to time or contact tech support and ask them.

  • N97 New Firmware Version 3

I was reading some blogs and noticed that Version 3 for N97 is available, is this true?
Some blog were stating that Nokia is planning to release Anna for N97...
What's going on? The last I know was nokia released Version 2 software well over a year ago and then forgot about it for ever.
And I thought N97 was long dead for Nokia!.. considering N97 as an honest mistake.
24 Nokias purchased in 13 Years (since 1998)
    1 x X6, 1 x N97, 3 x E52, 2 x 5800XM, 1 x N82, 1 x 6300, 1 x 6670, 2 x 7250i, 1 x 2100, 1 x 3560, 2 x 6610, 1 x 7210, 1 x 8310, 1 x 3330, 3 x 3310, 1 x 8210, 1 x 5110

The MINI got a new fw update, but AFAIK the N97 was abandoned long time ago.
N97 getting Anna? - Not true. The N97 does not have the proper hardware to run symbian 3 nor Anna.
The N97 was a great mistake as you mentioned. May God know why they came up with the brilliant idea of the tiny amount of NAND memory...

  • When is the N8 new Firmware coming?

I was told in early January 2011 soon, how long is soon
    Solved!

If your phone is O2 branded then yes there could be a big delay. O2 is often slow to approve new updates and Nokia is not allowed to release it for branded models until the networks say so.
This only applies to branded phones though, people using unbranded phones on O2 (or any other network) get the firmware when Nokia releases it.
If you do have a branded model I suggest you start a thread on O2's forum asking when they plan to release it.

  • N78 New Firmware

    Hello guys!
I know anybody here have the information about new firmwares coming to devices but you are much more experienced than me to know if N78 lifes cycle has end or Nokia would planning a new firmware to N78
I'm asking because it has lots of bugs that should be corrected, and when I say "lots" I mean at least 4 or 5 annoying bugs
The lastest firmware is dated from 05/08/09 (American Format)
Do u have any idea about this question?
    Best Regards

Nokia seems to be comitted to improve the user experience... Its really good to know that... They have to do it to survive... BTW Nokia N78 latest firm ware is a little better. The operations seems to be fast.
It has just been a day with the firmware.. So far no problem... I faced a few problems while updating the USB get disconnected when the update is about to begin... but the latest software update program has all required warning... It asked me to restart my pc and my cell phone... And try again ... I did it Alas it worked ... got it updated ...
    I found a few things new :
The icons for videos (The one in old version was better) and search are all new.
I am from india. I brought this phone seeing the FM transmitter option. But after i brought the phone i found it missing.
But with this software update i got the option under the music menu :-) thanks a lot nokia.
Few problems with the camera still remains... music volume has come down a bit... the gps seems to be working a little faster.

  • New n97 v2 firmware and music player /firmware v2

just wasted five hours manually updating album art on the n97 for albums thats artwork wasnt recognised using the album art/change function then as usual after being connected in mass storage mode refreshed the music library and it removed all the found artwork and some alterations to file names thanks a lot nokia for the five hours wasted tempted to send you an invoice for my time !!
the only way round this ive found is to use nokia music to add files then theres no need to refresh the library
but this is a pain as i already have most of my music in itunes and album player and when youre dealing with importing 3000+ tracks is terminally slow never mind having to optimise the artwork for the phone
other than that apart from that am overall v pleased with the new firmware kinetic scrolling more mb on c drive
and seems more stable having said that last night the phone was very nearly being repackaged and being sent back to nokia

I use Mediamonkey to ID-3 tag all my music. This is what the media player uses to identify music titles and album art.
With Mediamonkey, you simply drop and album into it, select search and it finds your album or you have the option of a manual search. Select save to Tag and It saves the album cover to the ID-3 tag and adds all relivant information such as
    Album name
    Album Artist
    Year
    Song titles
    Ttrack listings
    Record label
I have used this software with my current N97 and previously on my N95 and other Sony Ericsson phones. I have over 16Gb of music currently on my N97 and all of it is tagged with the correct album art.
Give it a go. This will solve your problem.

  • The good news:new firmware for n97/n97mini

    new firmware for n97/n97 mini
    The nokia world 2010
    update to symbian^3

I don't know about the upgrade to ^3, and frankly it might not be possible to port symbian^3 to the ol' n97 .... But i still hope that this new "upcoming" update makes the n97 better......
And i also wish it releases at nokia world 2010, b/c if it does, it will be worth the wait

  • New firmware for the N97?

is this another nail in Nokia and Symbian coffin ... check out the below link....????? http://www.engadget.com/2010/07/01/symbian-guru-shuts-down-says-nokia-is-losing-hard/
i think it's hard time nokia shud release something good for thr N97 as they are already losing ppl's interests in thr devices as well as market is no more going to be one sided like before for nokia ..... i have a N97 and am waiting for the V30 to be out ,,but not just anothr bug fix FW ,, i as a user of the phone really really expect something great with this FW,,something that the hardware on 97 can still support i guess....

  • New firmware n97

Hi everyone, please help me, my phone is N97 but i cant be able to update it to new firmware it still shows the old version (v 12.0.026) my MODEL CODE is 0584965

Correct me if I am wrong, but as far as I can tell, the handset you have is an MTN South Africa branded handset. All firmware updates for network branded handsets have to be approved by the network before they are released by Nokia. The delay in you getting the update is probably because the update has not been approved by MTN. You should contact MTN and request that they approve the updates.

  • Will N97 mini get new firmware updates in 2012?

Hi I am nokia fans. Still I am so hope that new update firmware will be release for n97 mini owners. Since 5800 and 5230 get new updates at October 2011. When n97mini will taste new firmware update again?

v30 was released at the end of June 2011. Don't expect another update anytime soon. I went from V12 to V30 and it's a trade-off in features. The new browser is an overall improvement, but the email client no longer gives you the flashing notification option. Free RAM drops 5 MB's on my phone. The Smart Dial and Emoticons are subjective as features. One thing I do like is that the phone stays in portrait view when closing the keyboard.

  • 5530XM: What we like to see in new firmware!

    Hi guys,
I would like to present nokia what we users of nokia 5530xm would like to see in a future firmware.
I know that nokia might not want to implement those ideas in a new firmware but doing that would make customers very happy, since they are having support for their phones.
These are the ideas (which can be done in 5800 or n97 aswell):
1 - Phone should have kinetic scrolling anywhere in the phone. Is awful to have to use the right scroll bar in menus, in special, applications menu. Even with "list" mode, kinetic wont work.
2 - Since it is a express music phone, at least this idea should be inserted. When you press the volume buttons it should work even with the keypad locked. And when you press and hold it changes to the next music. Sometimes when i am with my phone in pocket i cannot change the music without having to remove it from my pocket.
3 - I think the contact bar on homescreen should be improved. At least in my phone its hard to use. You try to scroll and it ends entering in the contact.
4 - Possibility to change the "Email" widget for another or even add more. I would like to have a twitter widget there for example. Having support to add new ones would be great.
5 - Better support for WPA password input. Sometimes networks have long WPA passwords and when you turn the phone to write it, it wont show the qwerty keyboard. Writing long passwords with 1,2,3,4... keys take a looooong time. This is VERY annoying.
6 - Support for Landscape pode on homescreen! I would always use it.
6a- Possibility to use menus in landscape mode with the motion sensor deactivated. I put my phone in landscape mode and deactivated the sensor. It changes the screen back to portrait mode. Since I always want to use it into landscape, the phone becomes slow because it have to change the mode everytime.
6b- Add the mini-icons mode. Sometimes when i close a game, the menu appears with a very small icons and text on right side. Would be nice to use those.
7 - Possibility to use the small qwerty on portrait mode, like 5800. Opera mini has a mini qwerty on portrait mode and seems to be very fine to use. Why not on a way to send messages in portrait mode then?
8 - When acessing "Log" menu, when pressing on it or "Options" button, possibility to access other phone numbers from the same contact.
9 - If its not a hardware issue, possibility to use TV-out on it.
10- Possibility to unistall preloaded applications/games.
    11- 360 degree rotation
12- Predictive text on full-screen-keyboard input (maybe "select word" & "next word" keys).
Thats a little for now. If you would like a new improvement write it down.
and Nokia, PLEASE! make an effort to do these! Try to make your mobiles perfert!
    Thanks!
    - Lecsi

What firmware version are you on? I'm in the USA and still stuck on version 11. Other regions have had version 20 since December 2009.
