N97 OTA access point help

hi all, got a probem here that seems to been doin my head in over the last few days. basically i bought a brand new locked to tmobile N97, im a virgin customer.. now, i'm wanting to do a firmware upgrade.. due to having an old **bleep** laptop that only has 248mb of ram i cant d the upgrade via nokia pc suite so my only other option is OTA.. right, so, i dial *#0000# then go to options, then check for updates... up pops a message saying a need to define an access point, ok.. not understanding it much i try and manually add some stuff myself, to no avail... then i do some forum posting and manage to get these settings: Server Name Nokia Server ID Nokia Server password firmupservpass Access point [select your preferred AP] Host address https://dms.update.nokia.com/dms/omadm Port 443 User name nokiams DM password nokiamspass Allow configuration Yes Auto accept all requests Yes but... that hasnt solved my problem, when entered and i try to connect to do the upgrade i get a connection error. my only option is this forum, its a nokia fone and a nokia forum i cant get my head round it as i can use the internet n my fone brilliantly, surely the internet and the OTA access point are the same thing?

To add an access point select settings-connectivity-destinations-Access point , Automatically search for available access points ?, select yes and choose access point. Then go into Internet and set the priorities to WLAN number 1 T-Mobile number 2 etc
Good Luck
PS Nokia Software Updater should still work on computer, even with low memory or weak internet , just a bit slower.

  • Help with N97 and Access points after V20 upgrade

    Hi Guys,
I'm hoping someone can help me - I have an 505 uk unit and have changed to a generic euro product code to get the V20 software ( as theres a 2 week wait minimum for the network to release its custome version ) and its working brilliantly - except - in connections all my accesspoints have gone - I now show 13 uncategorised access points which I cant expand or open and it wont let me delete the lot as it says its protected Anyone able to sort this out and tell me what to do so I can get back to Internet and Contract WAP etc... destinations?
    Much Appreciating any help.
    Alex

    Hi Alex,
I am not sure what kind of applications are preloaded in your location.  I suppose the problem you faced is unable to delete certain definitions under the Destinations setting?
If a hard reset is not an option (not for me as I have purchased apps from the OVI store), I would create a dummy Destination to house all these unwanted definitions.  That way, so long as the default connection does not utilize this dummy Destination, I think you are OK.  Hope this helps.

  • Wireless-G Access Point HELP!

Ok, I currently am running my office with highspeed internet. I have the Internet running into the Router and than into the Wireless Access Point. BUT!, I have 2 intruders! Possibly slowing down my internet speed. I need to know how to setup a password protected lock on the wireless networking!
    Thanks,
    Ryan
NOTE: I did misplace my installation disc for the Access Point!

simple... you just need to open up the set-up page of the access point. by default the IP adress of your access point is 192.168.1.245
to secure the wireless router, follow these steps: (do it on a hard-wired computer)
open a web browser, type in http://192.168.1.245
    username: blank, password: admin
go to wireless tab, change SSID, set channel to 11, then save settings
go to wireless security subtab, enable it, then select a security mode, example WEP 64 bit. in the key 1, type in a 10 digit characters (0-9 , a-f), then save the settings
to connect to a secured wireless network
right click on your wireless network connection icon (commonly a single computer icon, found at the bottom system tray where the clock is located at)
view available wireless network, if the network name(SSID) shows up, connect to it, then type in the exact key. confirm it then connect. once connected, try to go online. and that's it

  • Access Point Help

I have 3 1131AG access points that i am setting up in my office building. I would like to setup each ap in such a way that if a user is connected wirelessly that can "roam" throughout the building, and if they get dropped off, once they are in range again to any of the 3 ap's they will connect automatically. What do I need to do in order to make this happen?

As for security, the simplest most secure method I can suggest to you would be WPA2-PSK. Use a very strong Pre-Shared key, 10 character, alpha numeric and special character with AES encryption. Unless you have a radius server, then you could set up PEAP.
The only way I can think of setting up notification would be using SNMP traps.

  • WAG160N - setting as Access Point; help needed

Hi all, I have a WAG160N router currently acting as my main router and a spare Technicolor TG58n. I want to use one of them as a router extension but 1) not sure if it matters which way round, and then 2) how to do it!..
Also, if it helps/ is relevant, I do have a Homeplug in the lounge, where I want to put the router extension (going into a Gigabite switch, out to the TV, Blu-Ray and Amp). Not sure if plugging the extension router into this is worth it?
Thanks for all your help guys....

Hi there, Dean. It may be best to let the Linksys router act as a second router. You may refer to this link, http://kb.linksys.com/Linksys/ukp.aspx?vw=1&docid=785463d9ecaf4cac84aed245b08d615f_3733.xml&pid=80&r...
Just use the LAN to WAN steps.
By the way, check if the Homeplug works directly behind the router. If it does, then it should work while connected to the Gigabit switch that's in turn wired to the Linksys router.
    Hope that helps.

  • N97 access point options

Is it possible to set my n97 so that whenever it is in the range of my home wireless network it uses that for access instead of 3G network?  e.g. for when it checks email or uses facebook etc?  I was reading about the access groups in the manual but it didn't seem to want to do what I was trying to achieve.

you need to ensure that each of the widgets or applications are set to use "internet" group as the means of connection, if this is the group where you have set all your access points.
I have a further question petrib in relation the Messaging built in application.  I have managed to get MfE working and it correctly uses the "Internet" group to access packet data, and correctly switches between my wifi and 3G conections.  Excellent!
BUT in default messaging where I have added my gmail account there is no option to select "Internet" under Access Point in Use.  The only available options are "Default connection", my home wifi name or my 3G internet connection.  If I select default connection, then my gmail account will only try to connect to wifi and not switch to 3G when out of range.
Why can't I select the Internet group for my default email account but I can for my MfE account? grrrrrr

  • Having Issues with E1000 as an Access Point setup - Please Help

Quick background - Using an E2000 as my main router for a DSL connection (using an ISP provided Zyxel 660HW modem with wireless disabled if that matters). I have an E1000 that I want to setup as a LAN to LAN connection to the E2000 at the far end of the house and two floors down to extend my network.
I am pretty network saavy and thought this would be a snap. But I am running into trouble and hoping someone can assist.
Here are the steps I took:
    1. I ran a CAT 5 connection down to the basement where the E1000 is to be setup.
    2. I hard reset the E1000 to factory defaults
    3. I connected my notebook to the E1000 via a LAN port. At this stage the E1000 is NOT on the network
    4. I configured the E1000 with an IP of 192.168.1.2 - my main router (E2000) is set to 192.168.1.1 and the IP ranges start at .100 so this should present no conflicts
    5. I disabled DHCP
    6. I disabled NAT
    7. I saved settings and rebooted router
    8. I removed connection to notebook and plugged in the CAT 5 run from the E2000 - LAN port 1 on both (no WAN/Internet port used)
At this stage I expected the E1000 to act as an Access Point but it is not functioning properly. The first thing I notice is that the E1000 that should now be the AP is broadcasting the router name (something like Cisco 54653) even though this is not a broadcast SSID but only the router name. That is odd, I believe.
I have tried rebooting both the E2000 and E1000 along with the modem, no luck. I have tried different IPs for the E1000 just in case but again no luck, the wireless is not extended.
Any advice or guidance? Am I doing something wrong?
    Any help is appreciated.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

It sounds like you have configured the E1000 properly, but you didn't describe how you have configured the Zyxel and E2000.
    Do you have A or B ?
    A.  Zyxel set to full bridge mode.  Then connect Zyxel to E2000's internet port and configure E2000 for PPPoE internet connection type (and DHCP server enabled and NAT enabled). Change MTU to manual on E2000 and enter 1492.  And then connect your E1000 as you described.  Internet connection type on E1000 is AutoconfigDHCP.
    B. Zyxel is configured as modem/router (DHCP server enabled and NAT enabled).  Then connect Zyxel to E2000's internet port.  E2000 is configured as router (DHCP server is enabled and NAT is enabled) and local IP address is 192.168.2.1.  Internet connection type on E2000 would be AutoconfigDHCP.  E1000 is configured as you described except local ip address is 192.168.2.2.  Internet connection type on E1000 is AutoconfigDHCP.

  • Help needed setting up access point to public network

    Hi from a newbie,
Assuming they are suitable, I want to use one (or two) AP1232AG-E-K9 access points for Internet connection through a public wireless network (BTFON), where wire broadband is not an option. I've downloaded what I think is the correct manual for the APs and I'm now scratching my head as to where and how to start setting them up. I want to use these Cisco APs in the hope they will give me better wireless performance than I'm currently getting, which is frequently flakey.
I've tried to reset the APs to the factory default but there seem to be different ways of doing this depending on what you want and what you've got. I made up a console cable  to access the console but there even appear to be different versions of  this so I'm not sure if the cable I have is the correct one.
I have setup and used lower end wireless devices in the past but these Cisco units seem real complicated and I'm going to need help in getting them working.
Any assistance would be much appreciated.
    Kind regards,
    Glenn.

  • Help with using the WRT54G as an Access Point

Ever since I've been using the WRT54G as an access point behind another router I have been experiencing intermittent disconnects and reconnects from the internet anywhere from once every 5 to 60 minutes.  I get the message notifcation that the Local Area Network is disconnected for a split second before everything reconnects and works fine.  This has been happening on my desktop which is wired directly to the WRT54G which itself is wired directly to the other router, but I have also experienced these disconnects with my iPhone and laptops which have been using the wireless signal.
When I was connected directly to the original router I hadn't experienced any of these problems.  I've also tried changing settings and even disabling the wireless broadcast of the WRT54G but to no avail.  I can't figure out what the issue is, but it seems to also be affecting the wireless broadcast of the original router.
I've updated firmware for the Linksys, and I've done a reset for the Linksys as well.
Any help would be much appreciated to get rid of these disconnects.

OK, so I've tried a different setting to see if it'll work.
Previously I had not configured the WAN of the Linksys router at all and left it on Auto (DHCP) even though I disabled the DHCP for the LAN.  I've now set the WAN up to a random Static IP and hopefully this will solve the problem, but I'm not sure as of yet, if anyone could look over the settings to see if they're correct please let me know.
    Router 1- (Router)
    WAN - Configured to ISP
    LAN - DHCP
    IP: 192.168.1.1
    Subnet: 255.255.255.0
    IP Range: 192.168.1.100 - 192.168.1.150
    Router 2 - Linksys (AP)
    WAN - Static IP
    IP: 64.XXX.XXX.1 (made up value)
    Subnet: 255.255.255.0
    Gateway: 64.XXX.XXX.254 (made up value)
    DNS: XX.XXX.XXX.X (made up value)
    LAN - DHCP disabled
    IP: 192.168.1.2
    Subnet: 255.255.255.252
The WRT54G was a bit of a pain in terms of what Static IP and Gateway values they would accept, so I had to randomly put in values until I found something that worked.  So far no disconnects, but it's only been half an hour.  I can't seem to access the admin page for my Linksys router at 192.168.1.2 anymore though.

  • AP Extreme (WiFi Access Point)... LAN... Web Proxy Server help.

    Hello...
I need a little help configuring this Airport Extreme as a Wireless Access point, serving a bunch of iPads via the schools LAN connection for which traffic is routed through a Web Proxy Server. I've been told to set it up as a bridge as the PC LAN and Proxy are providing NAT but can't seem to crack it.
The WiFi side of things is up and running, we can all see and connect to the AP.
I'm told that it was working fine before the school break in the summer, then something was changed and the position of the AP altered.
The Web Proxy Server is normally accesses from the PC's via the following address... IP > 10.12.14.122  //  PORT > 3128
I'm not certain where the Proxy settings need to go in the new 'simple' Airport Utility, can't see a place for Port at all?!?
(I've taken the AP home, tried it on my home network and it works fine, so we know its all OK and its down to config).
Here are some screen images of the settings as they are, that do not work.
(I was trying a few different settings hence the screens like Static/DHCP etc.)
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Hi Daniel,
    >>Now when I go on a client site my internet access on the host laptop is via a web proxy on a LAN connection.
"LAN connection" means physical NIC (Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller) ?
" web proxy " means adding a proxy server IP in IE ?
Bounding the NIC (Realtek PCIe ) to external virtual switch then connect all VMs to that external virtual switch ,still can not access ?

  • Configuring Cisco Aironet 1100 Access Point. Please help!

    Hi all,
I have dozens of Cisco Aironet 1100 access points, each is managing its own wi-fi with DHCP.
I had to disable dhcp on them because they are on a wired subnet where I am using the static IPs and don't want my wired clients to get DHCP addresses, nor someone to be able to plug the wire into own laptop and get on the network.
It's been working fine with one exception - I need to be able to ping my access points from the central site, and I can't.

  • Access point problem... help

i have an access point which is not suppose to be in the native vlan, the port which is connected to the access point has no trunk.
when i checked the native vlan, this error prompted...
    %SYS-4-P2_WARN: 1/Tag 1 on packet from <mac add> port 1/3, but port's native vlan is 2
but when i unchecked it, the connection lost between AP & switch...
what actually happened? can anyone plz help me?

    Hi,
the connected switch a Cisco Switch? If yes do you have configured a "switchport access vlan xx"?
If the connected Switch is not a Cisco i had a problem similiar to yours and fixed it with the setup of the used VLAN (in my case VLAN 10) as Native VLAN in the AP.
Maybe you should setup the Native VLAN to 2 in your AP Config.
    I Hope that helps.
    Best regards,
    Frank
