N97 Ovi maps clashing with Google maps or sports t...

I have a UK Vodafone N97, Had Ovi maps working a treat and really pleased with it.  However, I just installed google maps and then Nokia Sports tracker.  Sports tracker wouldn't "track " at all and this then stopped Ovi maps from finding a signal.
However, Google maps finds 3-5 satellites and plots very quickly so I know the GPS receiver is working fine.
I uninstalled Sports tracker and Google maps, deleted all Ovi map data and did a soft reset, then re-installed Ovi maps for the UK  ( I can not delete Ovi maps app from the phone, software V21)
I still cannot get a lock with Ovi maps but having put Google maps back on, that works fine!!
Any thoughts other than a hard reset as I have so much installed on the phone.
Thanks,
Martin

Google maps uses a different server, and installing it may have changed the server settings in the phone location settings. Go to Menu>Apps>Location>Positioning>Positioning Server> make sure that the server is still supl.nokia.com

  • N97:Ovi Maps crashes after a few seconds

On N97 I had Ovi maps working like a breeze for some weeks now. All of a sudden I see this behaviour. Open Ovi Maps, see the main page, click on My Location the map appears a message about connecting might cost you something and the Ovi Maps disappears.
What should I do the get Ovi Maps working againg. Oh, btw Internet works just fine.

The original maps app that came with the phone will always be there (like music player or photo viewer or web browser) Maps 3.04 works fine on my N97. Best way to install is to remove (as you said you did) all Nokia/Ovi maps from Installed Applications, then download Ovi Maps 3.04 Beta from Nokia Beta Labs. Then use Nokia Maps Loader on PC to first remove old maps, followed by downloading and installing the map data for your region onto the phone (the stuff the Maps app uses to find where you are and to navigate) to avoid having to download 'on the fly', this speeds everything up and avoids data usage. Maps should then work fine ! Well it works for me !!

  • Dissatisfied N97/Ovi Maps owners - tell Nokia what...

I just noticed that Nokia is running an online survey about Ovi Maps:
    http://europe.nokia.com/explore-services/maps
I have used the opportunity to tell them how lousy the N97 and Ovi Maps 3 combination is.  I hope that all other members of this forum who are dissatisfied will also complete the survey so that Nokia might get the message that something needs to be done!

Three things,One  maps always opens on the last location you had it opened, and finds current location once it gets a gps lock, Two if you haven't dowloaded and pre-installed maps on the phone ( the ones the application reads to navigate) with Nokia Map Loader then it will have to download them 'on the 'fly' which will use a lot of data and slow everything considerably. Last if you only just got the phone, it probably doesn't have Maps3.03 which tends to function much better. Worth checking for software updates both with the software updater on the phone OTA and with Ovi Suite on PC !

  • N97 ovi maps firmeware 11.0.0.21

    Pardon for my english.
For when OVI MAPS 3.03 free, in versions of firmeware 11.0.021?
I cannot update it to the version 2.0.x because my company of telephones does not leave me.
    Does someone know it?
    Thanks

It will only work with software V2.0 or above, if you can't update it won't work. Sorry
Try Nokia Software Updater on your PC
    Good Luck
PS you will have to use N97 mini version from nokia maps downloaded from phone browser at the moment, but it will take about 9 meg of memory from C

  • N97 Ovi Maps - Internet usage disabled after upgra...

Recently upgraded phone software and maps - everything works fine except when activating Ovi Maps at which point I'm prompted to 'Go online'  which when prompted, the  phone confirms no internet connection - tools online - and I get the message on screen Internet Usage disabled.
Everything else installed on the phone works fine - including all the internet related software, email , facebook etc
Appreciate that others may be having same problem as we carried out same upgrades on second phone in the house last night and................Same problem

Has anyone got a solution for this issue? I had my first n97 arrive on monday, today I had to swap it as it didnt work properly. I have got to grips with my new one and upgraded things when prompted, everything seems to be working perfectly except when i got to ovi maps.
Ovi maps worked fine on the frist n97 handset but not a lot else did. on this new handset its just ovi maps with the above problem, when I go into maps it says no internet connection and propmpts me to select 'go online' i do that and get the message 'internet usage disabled'
Ive tried all of the above except the GPRS/EGDE thing as I cannot find that anywhere on the phone.
Any help is appriciated as its been a long week trying to get n97s to work

  • N97 Ovi Maps on memory card

How do I install ovi maps on e: memory card not phone memory C:

One other thing you can do is to go into application manager and remove all the share location stuff that came with maps3.03 (or even try maps 3.04 beta from Nokia Beta Labs but still remove share location) this will give you a couple of meg back. And if you want to share your location use the nokia social messaging from beta labs/Ovi Store which lets you share location on posts and can be installed on E

  • N97 Ovi Maps problem

    HI,
i tryed to update my maps definition by checking on Ovi Suite on my PC via USB.
Some updated maps were available, but during the update, i've lost the connection with USB.
From now, there is no "cities" folder on E: and Ovi Suite can't upload new maps.
So i have Ovi maps working but without any Maps !
It says my memory card is full, but there is 28Go available !
Any idea to recover it ?
    thanks for your help

During the update process, the old maps are deleted first before the new maps are downloaded. I have never interrupted the process but it is possible the usb connection was interrupted just as all the files were deleted. This could explain why the Cities folder and qf files are missing.
Now to get Ovi Suite to see the mass storage for map data purposes, you first need to run Maps at least once. This should recreate the Cities folder and qf file. Once this is done, Ovi Suite should be able to see it and allow you to download map data.

  • Route tracking with Ovi Maps without internet conn...

I have been trying to find an app, which would track my  route without connecting to the  internet. This is important in two cases: 1. when there is no service (in the mountains, for instance) 2. when it is prohibitively expensive (like abroad). It is great that I can download Ovi Maps for any location in the world, but I cannot really use it as every app that I know is trying to connect. I found one app, which came close, Parking 2. It does use Ove Maps and one would think that you can track back your car looking at the pre-loaded maps, but this is not the case. It still connects and then loads the maps (which are already pre-loaded on the phone!). And if there is no connection, there are no maps.
Does anyone know of a free or paid app, which can do exactly that: track your route based on the pre-loaded Ovi Maps without connecting to the net?
Thank you in advance for any info

@optiplex - I Understand where you are coming from. It sounds fairly simple. Unfortunately, the maps that ovi has for places like ladakh and other places in the Himalayas are fairly featureless. There are no contours on the map for where the terrain is mountainous. For instance, I have planned an expedition in the Tsomoriri - Peldo - Skarchyu sector. The Terrain ranges from 15000 ft to 22000 + ft. Straight line just aint gonna work. If the map were bit more detailed then I could actually set way points to the destination and then work one way point at a time. Unfortunately, while I am happy that the GPS on N8 works wonderfully well without GPRS/3G or any cellular network, the ovi maps are a let down, in that they are not very detailed. (not talking about cities and towns and not referring to drive navigation at all which according to me works beautifully.)

When I am hiking in the mountains, or when I am abroad touring across some city, I want to see my route on the map, so I can always find my way back.
    1. OVI Maps and Sport Tracker does not need Internet connection if you did the setting correctly.
    2. Sport Tracker will record your trail. The trail can be shown on the Sport Tracker maps. The trail record can also be exported out as KML file and on the PC screen, display the trail on Google Earth.
Unfortunately, I don't think you can use the trail record to guide you back to your starting position while in the mountain.
So how about this method using OVI maps.
    1. Set your Walk navigation to "Straight Line" instead of "Street".
    2. Record your starting position as a Favorite on OVI Maps.
    3. Walk into the mountain.
    3. Use OVI Maps to navigate back to your starting position by selecting "Walk to". OVI maps will show how far and the built in compass will show you which direction is your starting position.
Not sure whether this is what you needed.

  • N97 - tracking while navigating with Ovi Maps

I would like to be able to save my journeys, to view them in, say, Google Earth, and possibly also to have live tracking available for selected others to view, while I follow a route planned by Ovi Maps.
I have seen various possible applications and am just wondering if any will work reliably on a generic UK N97 under these circumstances.
    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Check Sporttracker.
www.sporttrackingstechnologies.com... which gives a download link via OVI.

  • [INFO TIPS] How to survive with Ovi Maps 3.0 insta...

Quick info tips. I wanna made this post earlier but I was on few days trip so didn't have a chance... but it's good coz I was tested GPS in real touristic environment.
I'm from Europe so I don't know how all links posted below will be works for people outside Europe.
My hardware: E63 with latest firmware + external GPS module LD-4W
Everything what we do here, we do with phone connected to the PC via USB cable in PC Suite mode and with fully battery charged.
If you have Maps 2.0, everything works well for you and you payed for any of licences - better stay with that version and don't touch Ovi Maps 3.0. Waste of time and nerves.
    1. Please make phone data backup in PC Suite. Please make data backup of your memory card.
    2. Check if you have firmware upgrade for your phone (click on some icon in PC Suite). But if you have cracked Symbian and you using cracked software better stay away from firmware upgrade. There's new cracking method for newest firmwares, ask Google. I don't use it, I'm clean. If you have new firmware - update the phone.
    3. Download MapLoader - http://europe.nokia.com/explore-services/maps/download-maps/map-loader Do fresh install or update old MapLoader
    4. Bluetooth MUST BE turn in phone. Why? Ask Nokia. -_- Just kidding but unfortunately it's not funny. Without Bluetooth Ovi Maps 3.0 installed in next step (6.) is crazy as hell. Application is completly unusable, skipping, switching... one big hell on the screen. I don't know how it looks like in phones with build in GPS module.
    5. Download Ovi Maps 3.0 - http://europe.nokia.com/explore-services/maps/download-maps and update with this installer old Maps 2.0 in the phone.
    6. Run Ovi Maps 3.0 and allow to download via Internet connection in your phone (wifi, gsm, 3g) some portion of initial data - 300 or 400kB - something like that, up to 1MB maximum then disconnect from Internet. It's needed to save some file (I don't remember name) and make structure of catalogues on memory card.
    7. Leave Ovi Maps 3.0 and run MapLoader. This application is one big pain in **bleep**. Sometimes doesn't see your phone, sometimes doesn't recognize correctly your memory card size (when you are finished downloading your map/s data that stupid soft can say to you "you don't have" or something like that)... horrible! If something goes wrong - try restart your PC and phone then connect again via USB cable - still in PC Suite mode.
    8. When luckily you have maps on your phone, try to pair your phone with your GPS module via Bluetooth or turn on build in module in other models (I think it works like that?).
    9. When you will be look out for licence for walk navigation... you cannot find it. You can see only your region name (in my case it was Europe) and you have an option to buy... licenses for drivers. ROTFL!  Licence for walk navigation is "hidden option". You must go here - http://europe.nokia.com/get-support-and-software/product-support/maps-support/how-to/how-to--use-map... - it's mini FAQ how to obtain it.
What I see, there's NO MORE free trial licenses in Maps v3.0 You must pay from day one. I buyed that licence for walk navigation for 10,12E (10 euro 12 euro cents) and it's not time restricted - looks like lifetime, ofc for the phone that you use (I think). Other licenses (for drivers) are time restricted (30 days and up as I remember).
Everything works fine for me. I was over 220km away from my hometown in awesome town Wrocław and Ovi Maps 3.0 helps me A LOT with navigation and searching for monuments in this town.

Ad. 1) "...Please make data backup of your memory card."
Because maybe you must be format memory card for proper maps installation (instead upgrade from Ovi Maps 3.0 installation level old installed maps from v2.0).

  • Ovi map on n97

When I got my n97 my map was working, then i had to deleted someof my memory on my c drive but I dont no what I did because now my map doesnt work and need help getting it back online. When I go into it now it say system error but I have the ovi map safeware 3.1..............HELP!

nothing you did all you could just fine. ok try the first code after you take out the battery for about a minute
and see if this helps any also in the c drive go through the file manager and try to remove the cities folder it will self replicate but it might have the old maps data that you dont need and it might be causing an issue
With all these operations I recommend you TAKE OUT MEMORY CARD and DO A BACK UP OF YOUR STUFF!!!
NOTE: In front of the hash key ( #) there is also a STAR key that people often miss and state that the code does not work.
1.. *#7780# - Restore factory settings - resets all the settings to the default ( you will not lose any data) Make sure you back up your data as you will lose all of it when you perform option 2 or 3 on this list. The default code for ALL operations listed here is 12345.
2.*#7370# - Reformat your phone (out of the box, tho keep in mind that most newer nokia phones at least n series, e series and s60 based phones have udp - user data preservation so not ALL data may be lost. still it is a good idea to always do a back up of your stuff.)3. This you perform as a last resort. Nothing else is working. If the phone is not showing any activity, proceed with hard formatting , turn off your phone, hold the following buttons while pressing the power button. (the default code is 12345)
    3. hard reset - hold the following buttons * (star key), 3 (number button) and talk/green key. turn on the phone and do not release those buttons until you see the Nokia boot up screen. once you feel the phone power up you can let go off the power button while still holding all three buttons ( for Nokia 5800XM - use the following buttons to do a hard reset, /GREEN/RED/CAMERA keys pressed all at once on power up. this will only work on 5800's that have firmware version 20... and up. ) For Nokia N97 (unofficial version but works) is SHIFT /SPACE BAR / BACKSPACE while holding the power button. Again do not let go until you see the handshake screen.
If these codes are not working the only thing for you to do is contact your Nokia Care Center/Service for assistance.
You know what I love about you the most, the fact that you are not me ! In love with technology and all that it can offer. Join me in discovery....

  • Ovi Maps on N97

I updated(being the operative word rather than upgraded) Maps to Ovi Maps and lived the interface and the maps being a little lot clearer on the N97, but when i tried using it with downloaded maps it always seems to be behind in location or thinks you are still making a manouvre even when you have made the turn and 10 metres down the road.
It just seems to be alot slower and less responsive than Maps 2 or N96. I know the N97 has a 'slower' CPU than than the N96 but not justifiable that it should lag behind so much. Anyone else noticed this? I know I sometime drive fast, but I dont break the landspeed record either.
    N95,N96 and N97

So far, I find no problem with version 2 as supplied on the N97.
I've used the N95 for the past 2 years, and updated Nokia Maps as least twice, probably 3 times in that time. I saw the Ovi 3 ages ago, and was tempted to install it on the N95, but I was so pleased to get Nokia Maps v 2 working so well on the N95 that I decided to keep it. So far I've decided on the same philosophy for the N97. I don't find it laggy so far. I do miss Ann though lol. I must see if I can download her from the Maps site. I feel I'm being unfaithful to her. And it's pervy having a guy nagging me.

  • N97 Mini can't get a GPS fix on Ovi Maps but insta...

Yeh, well I got my N97 Mini yesterday and it instantly fixes on a satellite on Google maps but  when I try Ovi maps or the positioning app (Menu> Apps> Location> GPS Data> Positioning), it doesn't connect at all! I'd really like to be able to use Ovi so what can I do?
    -HR.
    N97 Mini- RM 555- v11.0.045
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Google maps uses the cellphone mast and the internet to determine your position, apart from the GPS on your device.
On Ovi Maps or Positioning app, have you configured it to have A-GPS activated? Furthermore, Google Maps is fast in getting a "map" because it only downloads maps on the fly, of maps of the area on screen, while Ovi Maps is trying to download the maps for an entire country.
Go to Menu>Apps>Location>Positioning>Positioning Methods. Make sure you have A-GPS and network based turned on (you can use it turned off if you want, but turning them on will make the initial fix faster). In Positioning Server, make sure that the server address is supl.nokia.com, and the access point is defined.
The first ever fix from a phone can take anywhere from 5min to 45min, depending on various factors. Also, make sure that you have downloaded the maps for your country into your phone.
