N97 photo browser
I've read many posts about the built in photo browser: 1. It doesn't support nested directories (I shows the whole collection together which can be a problem if I have a big photo album. 2. It caches photos in drive C so a big album, even If placed in flash drive, consumes memory space system memory. Is there a good replacement for the built in photo browser ? Can I put photos any where so it will ignore them ? Thanks
Well first of all why don't you put them in your mass storage? I have 500 photos all in my mass memory and I don't have any problems.
Yes I wish we had the option of categorizing our photos, hopefully soon. But you have the option of assign album and tags, you can organize your photos that way but they still all be in one spot even if you save them in different files.
For now the only other application available is The photo browser which you can find it on Ovi store but you wont get anything extra, if you want to tag photos or make albums use the phones photo app.
Actually I think there are few other photo apps but they are not free and you have to pay for them, I can find their names if your interested.

I've moved all the pics from ny N95's SD card to the mass storage in my N97.
I copied across the year/month file structure into the images/camera folder but when I first enter the photo browser app they all show up in a location called Download. That's not really a problem but what I'd like to find is the following:
How do I stop videos and movies etc showing up in the Photo Browser (I only want them shown in the Video and Movies browser) ?
Thankyou
Nokia 808
Nokia CK-200You can't do it, it's the annoying way the browser works. Two workarrounds are to set up the albums and view them instead of Downloads ( it doesn't take long to set up an album ) or use Nokia Photo Browser from beta labs and set to view by folder (which is my preference ) works really well

N97 photo browser crash..
Hello all,
This is my first post here anyway I'll get to the point..The original photo browser that came installed keeps on shutting down on me whenever I zoom into some photos.. not all..and no the photos are not corrupted, does anyone have a solution that can let me keep my music, my photos, and my contacts, and messages?
I already did a complete back-up on my contacts, bookmarks, calendar, and messages.
I did not back-up the settings and files, so that the bug does not come back again if it is related to any of them.
I seriously hate formatting the phone..I did it once before I found out about this bug..and I don't want to do it again if the bug will still be there..any ideas??
Am I the only one with this problem?
Could it be because of the firmware V12.0.024?
will it be gone in the next firmware update? should I wait? If so, when is the next firmware update going to be out?
I KNOW I asked too many questions..I just seriously hate this bug..since I take a LOT of pictures.
Thanks..

Solved!
Go to Solution.no this is not a new issue, it has been present in all firmware updates so far starting from v10....there is really nothing you can do, it is a bug and a serious one at that. it has yet to be addressed. hopefully in the next update.
next firmware update hopefully will be released in sept/october and this one is supposed to be major. including skype native for n97 and hopefully much more. right now we can only speculate but hopefully it will deliver and fix those annoying bugs like the photo browser.

Hi guys,
I have copied a load of photos to my N97. They are all neatly organised into folders. I copied these folders into the Images folder on the Mass Storage, and they now all appear in the Downloads section of the Photo Album.
But... they are all in there. There are no folders, just a thousand or so pictures which now take years to scroll through to find the one i want. Why is this? I've organised them into folders with no more than 100 pictures in each folder to make navigation easier. Why has it ignored these folders and simply lumped them all in together?
Thanks! It's a bit of a pain but au97's advice is correct and to be fair it doesn't take that long, particularly as any folders you may install on the phone will tend to appear in 'groups anyway amongst all the photos in 'downloads'. Just select the tick, centre , bottom of screen, tap the photos you want to select and a tick appears on each one, then select options-add to album-new album-name it-OK
Do this to all the photo's you have and then when you open photos in future the home screen will have a section called albums, select the one you want to view and only they will appear.Once you've done this for the first time, the next time you add a group of pictures it will only take a couple of minutes to create a new album. Also I reccommend Nokia Photo Browser from Nokia Beta Labs or Ovi Store, it's really 'cool' and can also be set to view in folser order or date, well worth a try'
Good Luck

Nokia N97 How to hide images from the photo browse...

with my nokia n95, but i simply set the image atributes of the pictures i didn't want to show in the photo browser,
and that solved the problem, but with my new n97 this is of no use, i also tryed setting the image atribute as sys file
and that did not solvet either... Please help, i do not like having 500 images from a software showing up in my gallery...
Thanks in advancehow to move image from gallery to a certain album (not copy)

N97 Thumbnails in photo browser
Just a minor query re. N97 thumbnails. When I open the 'normal' default Photo Browser thumbnail images are displayed as a 'slideshow' under 'Captured' and 'Downloads' . I have both my Photo and Video applications locked with 'Application Locker' but these thumbnails are still displayed on the Photo Browser screen before the password is needed.I can't find any setting to disable this.
A different 'problem' is that in the My Video page, under settings, there is a choice to turn thumbnails on or off - but this seems to have absolutely no effect at all as thumbnails are always displayed.
Thanks for any advice.
On a different topic, I know that there is a lot of people having problems with the N97, but I can nonestly say I've had hardly any. I bought the N97 last June as a SIM free handset from MobileFun in the UK (a 'Made in Finland handset) after researching that it should do everything that I wanted, and, generally it has done this. I currently have about 90 applications installed, many of which I use on a regular basis. I have not had the 'scratched lens' problem and GPS works really well, especially with the new OVI Maps app. I also use Google maps for the satellite/street view images. I use Facebook and Twitter daily from the phone (using Snaptu or Nimbuzz) without problem. Friends are always impressed by the quality of the photo and videos produced. As I say, it meets all my specific requirements, but I can see it might not meet everyone's!
My only real gripe is that UK firmware updates always seem to be very late in appearing after other countries have received theirs. Still waiting for the latest update. I know there are country-specific bits (like BBC i-player, etc.) but it shouldn't take as long as it does, and only leads to more frustration for those who are already unhappy with the N97.Raelene Sue
Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
You can resize the thumbnails with the slider lower right of the iPhoto Window.
Switch to Photos view, not Events view and then select 'View -> Full Screen'.

Hey all. I've found yet another issue with the N97's software, and I'm looking to see if anybody else has had this come up with theirs as well, if anybody has their N97 anymore.
It seems that for some stupid reason, whether it be from constantly connecting to my computer via USB Mass Memory mode, the photo's that I have taken with the N97 camera stopped showing up in the "Captured" list of photos. I used to have 100+ in that list. Then I had 35, and now I only have 15. All the rest of them are showing up in the "Downloads" photo list.
This of course is in addition to all the other shennanigans that I have to deal with in terms of the photo gallery in general. You know, how photo's don't show up clearly when zoomed in on, or how you'll get kicked out to the homescreen while trying to zoom in sometimes or how the phone will fake like you're going to the homescreen all of a sudden and then bam, it's back to showing you your zoomed into photo.
Just wanted to see if anybody else was experiencing the captured photo's bug.I FOUND A GOOD SOLUTION BY USING THE NEW VERSION OF NOKIA PHOTO BROWSER ! IT WORKS GREAT AND BETTER THAN THE INCLUDED ONE WHICH HAVING SOME BUGS AND RESLUTION PROBLEMS !

HI all,
I small niggle with my V20 N97. I did a reset of the phone and backed up my captured photos, and then copied them back to the phone afterwards to the same place in mass memory. Now however they don't show up in the right place in Photos, even though when I make a new photo it ends up in the same folder as my other December pictures. This shows I have them in the right folders, but they only show up in "downloads".
How can I convince the phone to display them properly, as there is no difference in the file naming system?
Confused,
London
PS I did see another thread but it sunk without a trace. You can't, the hard reset has removed the memory that set them to december. What you can do , if you open downloads is use the 'tick' icon at the centre bottom of screen to mark all the photos you want to keep together and then select options, then add to album, then create new album, name it and select OK. Now when you open photos you will see 2 albums one will be the one you've just created and you will also have the original one 'favoutite'. I do this with all my photos so I can just view particular groups of pictures together. Also would recommend Nokia Photo Browser, from either Ovi Store or Nokia Betalabs, works really well and you can set it to view in folder order.
Hope this helps.
Good Luck

One Finger Zoom Plugin For Web & Photo Browser - Multitouch Alternative?
one finger multittouch for 5800xm and n97 very simple to implement zoom/rotate control by doubletapping you set a control point and when you drag the control takes efect need just one hand to controll (multitouch needs two hands to control - you have to hold the device with other hand
develope it now and upload it to Ovi store, make it free or donationwareYou can listen to whomever you wish.
But here's why I'm telling you what I am.
I've been doing this type of thing with still images from a Nikon D200 and now D300 and intercutting them to a video shot with a HVX200, and now HPX170 and HMC150 for more than three years.
FCP does not have the controls to achieve a professional result.
More than that, its ease in/out controls jump the image and provide sparse control over the areas of interest and the zoom/pans, among other things.
I love Noise Industries products. I've tested this one. It's better than some.
But the interface isn't conducive to a good workflow, and you need to render to see results.
I respect David's opinions on just about everything.
But I have tried just all of them - FCP, AE, Motion, Still Life, Moving Picture, PhotoToMovie, Lyric Media's product, and this one from Niclas's NI collection, etc.
FotoMagico is inexpensive and produces far better results than anything I've seen. And it is so much easier and intuitive to use.
And I always watch Boise State football. -
Apple Mail, Photo Browser, Attachments and Yosemite
OK,
Help.
Anytime I want to insert a photo from my iPhoto Library into Apple Mail via Photo Browser in Yosemite Mail, it crashes.
My preferred method - Via add attachments - Finder/Pictures/Iphoto library doesn't work anymore. It now says Open iPhoto library.
Why does Apple change these things without like checking them out?
Anyone have an advice. I think Yosemite is pretty half baked. I'm a computer consultant and this is the worst release for customers since Leopard.

Note: Since it's Mail that's crashing it's not an iPhoto problem but a Mail/System one.

If Preview and Mail’s media browser don’t work, Gary, can you export all the pictures from the new iPhoto package back to folders and use an earlier copy of iPhoto such as 8.1.2?
I have both versions on my system so it may be the Mail and Preview media browsers are not accessing the new iPhoto package. I thought they were the new version but maybe not; I see a single iPhoto Library icon and when I control-click on it it offers to show the package contents... -
Aperture not showing up / displaying in Mail Photo Browser in Leopard 10.5
This is for anyone who upgraded to Leopard 10.5.1 and wanted to use Mail's Photo Browser to insert Aperture pics into mail messages. At first, it only displayed the iPhoto and Photo Booth folders in Mail's Photo Browser on my Powermac but I remember seeing it in the Apple store.
If you already generate previews in Aperture, this is pretty much a non-issue. But for me, it frustrated me for a long time. To make it work, the previews must be set in Aperture. I turned it off because it used up extra HD space.
In Aperture, you need to check the "Share previews with iLife and iWorks" under Preferences. Then decide which size and quality of a preview you want. The larger the size and quality, the better it will turn out when you use it in the photo browser. This dictates the image size and quality of what is imported into your Mail message. (I used the smallest size and a quality of 7, which gave satisfactory results without making the aperture library grow too much). I figured it I wanted to email a large, I could attach it separately via a standard export from Aperture. Don't go too low on the quality as it will not turn out very good.
Remember to go and generate previews for each folder or pictures, as those are the only ones that will show up in the Mail photo browser. The folders will show up but no pictures if you don't generate the previews.
It takes a minute before it refreshes in the Mail Photo Browser. Just play with the different settings and put them into your mail to compare the results.I had a similar problem and what I found was that I had some corrupt .avi files. Once I removed them all was well. I had to create a new iPhoto library and hunt and peck. I would drag part of the old library into the new library then see if iTunes would see the photos - once it froze then I knew what part of the iPhoto library to look at.

Stills Resolution - Photo Browser vs. Importing into Event
All,
I am preparing a slideshow with photos of varying size. I manage my photos in Aperture and usually use the photo browser in Final Cut Pro X to access them. Some of the photos are low-res (0.1 MB 286 x 369 pixels, for example). If I bring the example photo into my project via the photo browser, the resolution is cut in half (143 x 184). If I import the photo into the Event Browser and add it to the slideshow the original resolution is preserved. Its obviously an easier workflow to use the photo browser but many of the photos I am working with are of poor quality to begin with so I don't want to have to first export from Aperture then import into FCPX. Does anyone know why I am seeing this behavior?
Thanks very much,
Peter

You're probably transcoding to Proxy.
This halves the size of the imported media.
Andy
That's what I thought at first, but that is not what I see in my machine.
I set the playback to proxy media, and in the Proxy Media folder I get an alias to the original file (sitting in the Original Media folder, naturally), so even using proxy does not halve the dimensions of the still image.
