N97 powering up problems

I've had my n97 since the 19th June. Been sort of happy with it so far especially after the various software updates. However it has recently developed a fault where it sometimes turns itself off. When I try to turn it back on it just displays the blue NOKIA on white background then doesnt progress any further. I have to remover the battery and the only way i can get it back on is if i hold the Camera + green + red buttons together while turning it on. I normally have to do this several times though. really makes your fingers ache!
It also does this if I turn it off manually.

It is broken - send it back

  • N97 Wi-Fi Problems

I have just received my N97, and was wondering if anybody would kindly help with the following problem:
My N97 connects, no problem, to my home network, using wi-fi, however, if i attempt to open, any of the pre-installed apps ( i-player, Facebook etc) the N97 automatically attempts to connect via gprs.
I cannot find any settings, that allow me to change the app settings.
    Please help.
    Thanks.

    Check this out.
Under Connectivity you will find a folder named "Destinations" where you will be able to setup multiple access points under one connections point. i.e mine defaults to a Connection point named "Internet" where I have 3 access points
    WLAN
    Orange Internet
    Orange Java
I have prioritized em in that order so when my WLAN is out of range the phone should automatically search for the next priority access point in this case Orange Internet and if that ain't available then it should search for and connect to Orange Java.
After you set this up make make it your default access point for your browser and every other app that allows you to define an access point.
Hope this helps I'd advise you to download the User guide and read the whole "Connectivity" Chapter to fully understand this.
    you can it here

  • N97 Bugs ant problems...

    Dear forum members...
I have been used N97 RM505 for couple of months.
I bought it brand new with 3 generations old fw.
My problems with the phone started then! Very disappointing and embarrassing for Nokia, to be honest.
Since I consider myself  "power user", I have never had smartphone  or  pocket PC so I could use it as phone or music player. I have always wanted to use phone as mobile computer so I aimed hi-tech products (7-8 years ago)  from manufacturers like HTC, HP...half year ago I fell in love with Nokia E71 smartphone, and that was my first Symbian powered gadget. I was very interested in how  "symbians" do it. And I was surprised how it worked. But, I wanted more. I gave E71 as present and decided to go for N97, flagship Nokia device.
And then, problems started to show up...
3 FW updates from that moment, and problems I have with this...device..do not disappear!
Same things happen all over again!
I read about particular issues and there are many of them, that's for sure.
My problem is simple: I have all of them!
Main camera works from time to time, after I answer the call I cant unlock the phone, freezes during boot sequence, left side of display in landscape mode dissapears, phone "kind of soft-restarts" every day or two and after that I have to reconfigure my email settings all over again, speed dial and favorite contacts lose pictures, contacts or group assigned ringtones mess up...
Phone has to be rebooted using "battery-pulled-out" method at least 3 times a day!
Tried everything: formatting, reinstalling device's FW, hard-resetting, FW upgrading...
Every time I format memory or hard-reset the phone i hope that will be last time!
But, nothing happens. Phone works well for a couple of hours. Phone call and it gets stuck, and i start all over again...when I come home.
I work as industrial automation software developer and, believe me, i know what "faulty device" means.
I know Nokia's origins, and I know that Finland is cradle of mobile communications, I have visited couple of companies in Finland that produce very reliable digital radio devices and I am familiar how professional they are up there...Every bug I have found in devices produced and developed in Finland was reported and problems were solved in couple of weeks or so! This does not fit in my experience with Nokia. E71 is outstanding device. I am sorry because I switched it for this "flagship phone" or, even worse, "mobile computer".
    Bottom line:
Phone is not reliable, especially if you want to use it as multipurpose device!
Calling this device  "Nokia flagship phone" is very wrong.
I am gonna wait for couple of weeks for new FW since it is not still available for rm505 officially, and after that I'll do something bad with this phone.
Technical support in my country is more than "unprofessional" and problem solving does not consist of turning off and turning on the phone or continuous reinstalling FW, as they do it.
My Question: Anything similar happened to anybody, and what I should do?
Thanks for advices. Forget technical support or local repair centre.
    Cheers!

    Yeah...
Thanks for the tips, carman58. I have already managed to try all different combinations and procedures for getting my phone to work including your recommendations.
As I told you before...after formatting E-drive, reinstalling phone software and hard resetting things went pretty well...until something happens. Week or two...day or two of heavy usage and I can't unlock device after phone call...Or main camera fails. Or, sometimes I just can't turn it on. White screen and stuff like that. 3-4 days before I decided to post on this forum I conducted procedure similar to the one recommended by carman58. I tried to conclude "critical amount of free space on C drive" that affects phone's stability. Phone works well (but I want it to work better than that) with 40-50 MB of free space on C drive. Anything below that level does not guarantee your phone will work well. Memory allocation may be the key...Not my job, just trying to conclude something logical.
I am not fan of third party software that watches RAM or CPU usage...Bad experience with Windows mobile devices, but I'll try to see somehow  if there's not enough memory when s**t happen.
And, yes...There are some apps that definitely do not free allocated memory after program is closed or even crashed. I am not going to name these apps, just want to know forum members experience with remote desktop management software compatible with N97. Hahaha!...In ths very moment I found out that my phone is not charging although it is connected to  the charger! Never mind...Maybe notification does not work.
Is there Nokia's official explanation for problems with N97? They can't deny problems. I mean, if you are not heavy user, or power-user....whatever....maybe you won't have problems we are dealing with?
And then, what's the point of 400MHz cpu clock, and great amount of RAM? It is there so we can watch video clips, take pictures, or surf the web? Yes but not all of that at the same time...
Multitasking is what devices like N97 should eat for lunch, if you know what I mean. Memory management should not be like this...3rd party apps for monitoring and flushing RAM. No way.
I know how hard it is to develop device that has all of these functions N97 has. So many hardware modules in such small housing, powered by such small power source...That's hell of a job!
If it is true, then my device should still have "beta" somewhere around "N97". I am not going to mention how much money N97 costs...

  • Mac powering off problem (-- is it likely to be the hdd?)

    Hi all,
i'm hoping to get some help with a problem I am having with my mac book pro.
    Some Specs:
MacBookPro (model identifier seems to be 3,1)
    Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.4GHz
    2gig memory
    SMC Version 1.16f8
    160gig HDD - ST9160823AS (split into 2 partitions: Mac partition 123GB, Journaled HFS+, Windows partition FAT32)
    OSX 10.5.6
The problem is that my mac, from time to time, just turns off in the middle of whatever I am doing (the screen goes black and the computer is off - this happens instantaneously). Then, when I go to power up, it begins the boot sequence - grey screen, spinning cog/gear - and then turns off again (black screen, no power).
On some occasions, if i try to power up enough times it will boot. On other occasions, many, many power up attempts do not work.
However, when in this state, it will still boot to the windows partition, or boot from an external drive.
Also, when i was booted into mac OS from an external drive, I ran disk repair on the Macintosh HD and got the 'Invalid Sibling Link' error.
After the invalid sibling link error, I ran fsck_hfs - r in single user mode. This found and fixed a number of errors.
Unfortunately, it powered off again. But recovered without me having to resort to fsck_hfs.
Most recently, i ran applejack (auto) in the hope that this will help resolve things.
I also tried resetting the SMC.
So, my main question is -- can I be certain the harddrive is the cause of the power offs? Or is it possible that something else is causing the power-offs and the harddrive errors are a symptom, rather than the cause of the power-offs?
Aside from running the hardware test (holding D with install disc on boot), which I have done (and nothing showed up) is there anything else I can do to try to isolate the problem?
If i can be reasonably sure it is the harddrive I will buy a replacement.
Also, not sure if this is relevant, but the poweroff only seems to occur when the laptop is running on battery.
Any help or advice would be much appreciated.
    Thanks
    Daniel

can I be certain the harddrive is the cause of the power offs?
No. It's probably the power supply and/or logic board, and the constant shut offs are causing directory damage to the hard drive.
    Get it repaired

  • N97 Flash Flood problem (white light in photo)

The most annoying thing about N97 is that when you slide the camera cover every time it scratches the camera area and in short period it could result a permanent scratch which causes the part of the flash to enter into the camera causing a flash flooding in the picture taken.
i also had the same problem and i solved it
so i like to share it with everyone
    please see the video here

I had the camera cover and GPS Antenna replaced on my N97 a year ago under warranty, it was a known issue and should be done free of charge !

  • N97 TV Out problem Any Suggestions?

I have a pre-order N97-NAM with relatively few problems (compared to others on this forum) running the latest firmware that I use in my vehicle via TV out cable.  Is there a way to set options on which audio output the phone uses during a call?  When I listen/watch music/video through TV out mode in the vehicle and a call comes in, I can't hear the call through my stereo speakers as I could with my N95-4. The audio only comes out the handset via standard speaker, loud speaker or with BT headset (if it is still connected).  Any suggestions?

Hi, I'm the same, the N95 I had worked fine, I could make and receive calls in the car through the head unit, but it will not work with n96 and now n85?
    Any help would be fantastic

  • New N97 Mini: Camera Problem

    Hi!
I just bought an N97 Mini and have been having problems with the camera.
Whenever I use the camera, it works fine until I am done with it and close the application. When I immediately need to use the camera again, the camera application shows a black screen, with then normal camera controls still present (though unresponsive). It is frozen.
I have already performed the hard reset and other measures mentioned by folks here. I have also completed the latest firmware update.
What else can I do? Is there an upcoming firmware fix for this?
    Thank you

Got the same problem black screen, unresponsive. Restart phone works ok, once. Maybe the problem is adressed in later firmware but no update is available for my version still on 10.02.020, does anybody know?

  • N97 mini Major Problems

found two major problem or blunders that is too too much annoying.
First:: when come out of range of the wireless network it will pop up again and again "Do you want to enable......" not letting you to select any thing. if I select Yes or No it should not pop up again.
2nd :: contact list to view any number there is no option just to view number. to write down number you have just to edit the contact just to see numbers.
if there is any solution here please let me know.

    Google 786:
I have exactly the same problem as you (the first one) ... My N97 mini is also trying to connect to wireless networks, even though I turned off the network scanning ...
It's not a problem when I'm home, but when I go away somewhere, the phone beeps every time it does not find a network. It is simply impossible to turn this off ... or is it?
Sometimes it stops trying to connect to a network when I reboot the phone, but this is about every third / fourth time ... There are many reboots to get it work ... Too many ...
Can someone (please) tell me what the problem is and how to fix it? I bought my phone two days ago and already want to throw it in the garbage.

  • N97 mini Keyboard Problems

When I'm using the slide keyboard, randomly the letter "r" when pressed, opens the camera. Letters "F" , "U" and "I" dont work........If the camera is opened If i press "f" and then "r" it takes a picture. A can solve this by turning OFF the phone and taking out the battery and the reinstalling and turning ON. But is really annoying to do this every 5 minutes. Does anyone know how to solve this problem definitely?? I've tried hard reset  and won't work.

Does anybody know, when it is a newer software for N97 Mini ? I have discover some problems with the phone, and some functions I really misses from my old N95 8 Gb..
When you receive a MMS, you can not choose to answer the MMS with an SMS, you must quit, then make an SMS to the person you received the MMS from, that`s a good step bacwords..
There ar altso a lot of functions in the camera part, thats gone, you can`t adjust a picture to 5x7" anymore, only manuel cutting of the pictures or set as background.
I really misses my N95 8 GB, it had it all and it was able to use on the Internet to..
After all these years with SE, i suddenly got a N95 8Gb. And now I begin to like it!!

  • N97 Home Screen Problems

Can somebody please help me here, I've just got an N97 as upgrade from N95 and I'm tearing my hair out already.
The widgets on the main home screen, ie the box you can amend via 'Add Content' with the contacts/calender/mail/camera or whatever ppl want to put there, that surely should shortcut to that partic application? I have the above 4 shortcuts in a horz line across screen but cant access them indiv.
I just get the option 'Settings/Remove/Change wallpaper' when I touch the box, I get the same kinda problem with the Favourite Contacts box, I cant quickly call or text anyone.
I must be something really stupidly wrong but it took so long to get the N97 to sync with Outlook properly that I'm getting frustrated.
Any help would be really appreciated.
    Solved!

  • N97 Mini Lotsa problems.

FOR ONE I HAVE DECIDED TO STOP BUYING NOKIA PHONES.
I HAVE HAD A TERRIBLE TIME WITH N97 MINI SINCE THE FIRST WEEK OF PURCHASE.
Now I am facing problems in uninstalling apps and backing up my messages.
    THIS SUCKS BIG TIME.

Hi, try using Ovi Suite and simply sync contacts and messages once a week, then all your messages will be saved on your computer, Ifind it reliable and easy ! Also , where are you saving your messages to, suggest you set it to E mass memory Messaging-options-settings-other-set to E, if you clear a bit of space on C you should then be able to manage Application manager, you can also delete apps from the application folder select options-organise then highlight the app you want to delete and select delete .
    Good Luck

  • N97 many severe problems

Hey everyone, this is my first post so sorry if it is somewhere else.
I have the Nokia N97, ive had it for about 8 months. there are many problems with it.
    1. I do not receive texts on time, they are recieved 4/5 days later than they were sent. (time stamp even says it)(they only pop up when i turn phone into offline mode and online mode again)
    2. I can bearly place music or films or media onto my phone via USb cable as it will take an eturnity.(The first few files are incredibly quick but then it gets to the last 5% and either crashes or takes hours upon hours)
    3. System crashes often.
    4. Memory full so i cant make calls, look at contacts, read/write messages.
    5. Facebook mobile currupts the phone so i do not recieve emails.
    6. Emails dont always auto receive.
    7. The touch screen does not work whenever i need to use it. (scrolling to my messages(that i actually receive) is a task by its self).
    8. Vodafone wont help me because they are gay and say its out of warranty by a day.
    9. I got outragous phone bills (£400 a month at the moment) when my contract is all inclusive)
    10. phone freezes when i go through my media (i.e. music player, videos etc.)
    11. My recent call log (made/recieved/missed calls) do not show as anything. they work then they go blank for about a month.
    12. Windows Live mobile works fine but when installed will not let me read my texts nor emails.
That is about it at the moment.
Thanks if someone could help me with any of these would be great.
    Foxyboi

If possible: connect it to computer and PC suite. Back up contacts and sms's etc. Do sa soft reset (diall *#7370# and enter security code 12345 (by default) ). This will delete everything on phonememory and free up space etc on the phonememory and clear out glitches.
Then back up from Mass memory such as music pictures etc. Format it.
Change messagememory to E - Reinstall your backup.
Now, try to install all posible apps on E, - use E as messagememory (not that after having the phone connectet to pc, the messagememory will revert to C, you have to set it back).
Make on folder on E called "music" - drag and drop musicfiles to that folder. refresh library.
Once in a while go inside the browser->options clear privacy data-> all. this will free up space on C.
See if this can make it work better.
