N97 problems :(

hello guys
my mobile phone (N97) gives those errors ; Security Module Error and Memory Full, i sent it to nokia care point 2 times, i still have the same problem. Nokia Care point says no hardware problem, anyone have the same experience?I am fed up with sending the phone to nokia care point. did nokia release a new OS?

Try a hard reset go to dialer and enter *#7370# default pass key 12345. Before doing this Backup phone contacts etc and you will have to reinstall apps etc, but E:Mass memory won't be affected. It's abit of work but should sort your problem as resets phone to 'out of the box' condition. Also 'User Search' at top of screen is vey helpful

Slew of N97 problems.

I'm sure some of these may have been addressed in the n97 bugs thread, but I do nto have time to read through 500 posts, and a post in that will simply be buried and forgotten in moments, hopefully I can find some hints in here.
the problems I am having with my n97 so far.
1. Photos taken with the N97 camera do not appear in the gallery. (an occasional photo may work, but more often not) they do however appear in the nokia photo browser from beta labs, but that doesn't allow me to do thigns such as upload to facebook, one of the reasons I decided to get this phone.
2. Widgets often stop working, and require a restart to get going again, however, on restart the pictures assigned to my favourite contacts will not appear, and the facebook app just says loading content forever, unless i remove the applications before I turn the phone off, let it start, than add the widgets to the homescreen after boot.
3. Songs in my music collection that are all tagged and have album art, once transferred to the phone, only some will show album art, some show none. and a whole pile of random songs will appear in an unknown folder, instead of there relevent artist or album name. If I browse to these songs theough the file manager, and play, all the track details will appear, but not when search my library through the music player.
4. Assigned ringtone will not work for a period time, simply playing the default nokia tune. even if I reset the tone, or change to something else, it will apear as if everything has worked, but then someone will call.. nokia tune again.
5. SMS from a select few (but not everyone) will appear with a timestamp 2 hours prior to when i received it, say I get an sms at 9:17pm, it will say 7:17pm, and bury down the list in my inbox. however this problem seems to have rectified itself recently, but no settings where changed.
I am running the latest software V11.0.021
i love this phone I really do, waited for it for months and months, has so many great features, but just way way to many bugs. i am a very tech savy person but I know that if i was like 95% of phone users that expect an item to simply 'work', this phone would have gone back a long time ago now.
If anyone can offer any fixes, that would be great, if not i figure that at the very least ths may make the software bugs recognised by nokia, and hopefully they an develop a fix. and fast.

N97 problems any ideas solutions?

hi there i got my n97 on realease date in the uk and have had no problems with it whatsover, until yesterday that is, i had set my phone to always ask when connecting to web, so when home screen was up the message would come up whether to connect or not, well yesterday this stopped appearing, ive alternated between offline and online, swithced off and on, took out battery and restored the fatory settings, however it still doesnt seem able to connect none of my widgets load up either , also i cant access my browser, when i try the same happens as with the widgets, the screen goes blank then back to the home screen?? im recieving my emails fine so i dont think its a connection problem, anyone any ideas or experienced this themselves?
please help i really love my phone

are you able to update your phone with the latest firmware ? v11 .... i know that UK has not received it but perhaps it changed ? i am not sure. that could help you also consider formatting your phone. you will have to do a back up and also you might lose some apps that have been preinstalled on the phone including the accu weather one, that can not be replaced cause it is nowhere to be found. if you chose to do that here is what you would do plug in *#7370# from your home screen/dialer and if it asks you for a code plug in 12345. this might solve your issue.

N97 Problem - Photos not appearing

When I take a picture on my N97 and then press "Go to photos" ..there is nothing there at all. When I browse the memory from a PC I can get them, but I can't get the photos to show up the phone at all any more.
Anyone know how to fix this; or has anyone else had the same or a similar problem?

Cannot view any photos taken with phone or any transfered images.
Only way to view images on phone is to use Beta Labs Photo Viewer which I don't like and cannot do anything useful with such as use image for wallpaper etc.
Have upgraded firmware to V11 but made no difference.

N97 Problem

I'm not sure if this is common, but my n97 is running software version 20.2.019. I bought just recently and it was working fine for the first 2 months. Then i started having problems, like the usual resets and lags.
Lately my phone has been resetting more, my music is constantly corrupted, when i do play a podcast or a song it the audio will stop playing but the progress bar says the song is still going. I have also been having issues where when i restart my phone it doesn't recognize mass memory and all my media (photos, music) are gone. Backgrounds back to the original and all my apps on mass memory are gone. I check file manager and I it says memory in use. I also recieve Disk write error, retry or lose data message everytime i'm trying to download something into mass memory.
I don't really know what's going on with my phone, i've done the resets soft and hard and even reformatted my mass memory. I still get all these issues. It sees mass memory after a soft reset but then i turn off the phone and it doesn't detect it again. Is this normal with s60 v5? Or does my phone need to go back to nokia care?

I have the same problem in the sence that my N 97 does all sorts of odd things, rarely the same problem all the time. Very unpredictable. I only use my phone to call and receive calls, SMS's and 3 or 4 very small .XLS files. I did not move my e-mail to it and also I am not using blutooth, because I do not want to depend on it, just don't trust the thing. Today I sort out the problem by going back to my 9500 and sending the N97 to Nokia. Very disapointed with what happened to me and the worse is that it does not look like that my phone is the odd bad one out there, out of the hundreds of thousands that Nokia made; it looks like to me that it is the norm. With so many complains in this forum and others, I requested already my ISP to consider replacing the N 97 for something else, not a Nokia for sure.

N97 problems copying media onto device.

Dear all,
Recently I have some problems using Ovi suite to copy movies onto my N97.
I am using SW version 2.2.0.245.
The file starts to copy onto the device but halfway in the process it suddenly stops copying and remains at that status.
Can anyone give me a suggestion as to how to address this issue? It is becoming pretty frustrating now.

The simplest, quickest way to transfer media to the phone is to simply drag and drop mp3 files or MP4 video (convert before transfer) . Create a file on E for each (music and video) and drag directly from computer to E whilst phone is connected in mass storage mode, just remember to set your message storage back to E mass memory as it will revert to C after being connected in mass storage !!
That's all there is to it !

N97 Problem - browser won't stay open

Another problem with my N97:
Now when I try to open a page in the standard web browser it just closes down the application. Icheck in the running programs list and it's not there - it has completely closed the app.
Is this a known bug?

Allan, here's an update: I just now picked up my phone, having never turned it off before putting it down, and the screen remains black! It's totally flatlined! It now will not turn on at all. Oy. This baby is going back first thing tomorrow. The weird thing is, after leaving the Apple store, I noticed some faint artifacts on my screen. As in, strange colors in areas that shouldn't be there. Do you know what I mean? It was similar to the time my graphics card died on my old pc.
Allan, yes- I restored both ways- wiping everything out and starting from scratch, and from a backup. I also got into the habit of powering off (and on) my phone religiously. It looks like this is a hardware, not just a software problem, now. I do hope the third time will be a charm, though . And I AM hopeful, especially after hearing that you've only crashed one time! Many thanks for troubleshooting with me, it's much appreciated!

N97 - Problems with hearing after upgrade

I updated my firmware on my Nokia N97 as i have been having numerous problems with dropped calls, my phone freezing and apps dissapearing from my home page. I had to reset my phone constantly as it would freeze in a call.
I updated my firmware to version 22.0.110 yesterday 06 July 2010. Now i cannot hear the other person on the phone calls. I try to adjust the volume level on the side to make it louder but this doesn't help. I reinstalled and it still is the same.
My phone is now worse than before...now i cannot even make phone calls as i cannot hear the other person, but they can hear me clearly.
Can someone help or are experiencing the same problem after the upgrade?

Hey, i have same problem with my Nokia N97mini.
Try to press with your finger to the earpiece zone when you cannot hear.
You never can fix this via upgrade or hard reset.
its hardware bug in all nokia s60v5 phones.

N97 Problem plz help

Hi all i have recently purchased a nokia n97 which so far i am very happy with the phone but i have encountered a problem. When i recieve a call it does not display the callers name just their number and when i recieve a text message it comes up with their number not their name????
If anyone knows how to solve this problem please let me know

Unfortunately, the search function can't do that...
I tried it, and it don't even find numbers I know I have in my phone book. I don't know what you are supposed to do with that search function. Thanks for reminding me of another application on the N97 which don't even appear to be in beta state.
(Try putting two numbers on a contact, and then search for each of those numbers, and see if you can get search to find them.)

Big n97 problem

I did a hard reset on my phone to free up C: memory, but when restoring my data using ovi suite my phone crashed. Now my phone is slow responsively, if at all, and a further hard reset (repeatdly to be honest) has failed to rectify this problem. I also can't get the phone to connect to my pc and can't try to restore the phone again.
Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this problem???

1. What if you Hard-reset and do not restore any backup at all ?
2. Hard-reset does not touch E: Mass. What if you have some "problem" in E: Mass ? What if you format E: Mass ( but this is extreme measure )
Using Y-Browser, I see the Z: ROM drive with size=0 where I think the firmware is.
Name: RomDrive
Fsys: Composite ( all other drivers are FAT )
Type: Rom
Attr: Write Protected
Attr: ROM
I guess the Hard-reset should execute some script ( probably stored on Z: ROM ), that includes reformat your C: Phone and install stuff from Z: ROM. Without backup anything and with a blank E: Mass you should be fine to start from scratch.

at second 26, when he is being painted, filmed from Nokia N97, he freezes for an instant. This me occurs approximately at every sixth photograph.
They said to me on Official service Nokia (Teleray in Slovenia), that also at other Nokiah N97 identically occurs.
SD card else not have, because has N97 32 giga mass memory.
I can't almost believe, that is this really at all Nokia. Therefore please all holders N97, if they film more photographs of course with movable picture and pictures are putting down attention on such freeze.
I of course will look forward to every opinion, so that a tody isn't appearing at you or he is given.

What is your Premiere Elements 11 project preset? Are you or the program setting it?
Assuming that before you upload to YouTube from within Premiere Elements 11 Publish+Share/Online/YouTube AND that your playback of your rendered Timeline looks OK, then I suspect here is the problem:
a. You have 1280 x 720 (16:9) video and you are settling for YouTube Presets: = whatever is there, probably Flash Video for YouTube which is 640 x 480 4:3 @ 30 frames per second.
So first thing to try is to upload using Presets = High Definition Video for YouTube which represents 1920 x 1080 16:9.
If that does not work, we can explore another possibilities, including exporting the Timeline to a file saved to the computer hard drive and then uploading that at the YouTube web site, not from Premiere Elements 11 and its Publish+Share/Online/YouTube.
We will be watching for your results.

N97 - problems deleting photos

I cannot delete photos from my n97, everytime i try to delete any photos stored I get the message "General system error" . I need to delete 127 photos and they seem to be just stuck there. The phone will not even let me sync them to my PC. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like photos app database is corrupted. You've deleted the files, but they're still in phone's indexes/thumbnails cache. If you remove the database it'll rebuild itself.
Connect to PC in mass storage mode, check show hidden files in windows. Open phone's mass storage drive, then open Private folder. Open 10281e17and rename or delete [102830AB]thumbnail_v2. Use safely disconnect hardware in taskbar before disconnecting. Open photos app and it'll search for pics, hopefully the deleted ones will be gone.
If that doesn't help then repeat the above, and also open Images folder and rename or delete _PAlbTN content, then check photos app again.
Final solution is to format mass memory. The thing to note here is that all images will appear in Downloads folder once restored, only pics taken with camera after the format will appear in Captured. First uninstall apps from E:, this is just a precaution as some apps also store data on C: and this will help prevent any potential problems later such as duplicated entries. Use mass storage method to back up user files (pics, music, etc) to PC. Then format mass memory from file manager options. Restore data and reinstall apps.
Formatting mass memory can take some time depending on the amount of data you need to back up then restore, so it's worth trying deleting the Private/Images folder files first.

N97 Problems - Help Needed

Hi. I was hoping someone could shed some light on the problems I am having with the N97. So far I have had 3 of these handsets since my contract with Vodafone started on 1st July and quite frankly, Vodafone customer service is appalling. All 3 handsets I have had have had the faults listed below but I seem to be getting nowhere with Vodafone about them so it seems Im going to have to fix them myself. Here goes with the faults......
*   Key lock slider is slow to respond.
*   Phone in general works very slowly
*   Applications take 20-30 seconds to open, even standard ones that come inbuilt on the handset
*   When typing text messages, I can tap the keys on the screen to type the words, then put the phone down and watch the letters appear ever so slowly on the screen about 20-30 seconds after I have tapped them in.
*   Calls are dropped mid conversation, even with minimum half signal
*   Phone freezes, then resets itself. On restarting, all messages are deleted and email settings wiped. I have tried looking back to c: (I store my SMS on e: and don't have f: which is the memory card slot) and they are not there either. They are just totally wiped from the handset.
I have read about firmware v12 being available but when doing software updates, either over the air or using software updater on the PC, I am told that I am on v11 and that is the most up to date.
If anyone can help with any of these problems, then I would love to hear from you. Maybe you could also tell Vodafone too because they openly admitted to me just this afternoon that they knew nothing about the software versions applied to the phone. So much for "technical support"!

Blimey, it must be bad if you are getting worse signal on Vadofone than you did with T-Mobile! Ive had 2 contract on T-Mobile and their signal is pretty poor where I am.
Good to hear Im not the only one who is having problems with an N97. I think I will pay a visit to the nearest Vodafone store soon and set up camp in the shop until they sort out my problems. Im absolutely against them repairing my phone though, purely because the one I have now (my 3rd) is a reconditioned phone that has apparently been through all the tests and checks to make sure its working, and it obviously isnt. I dont want to waste time and be without a phone for however long, only to get a phone back that has all the same problems I sent it off with.
Im really pinning my hopes on the v12 update fixing my troubles but to be fair, if it doesnt, then having 3 phones all with the same faults suggests that Nokia have made yet another lemon.  I will never have another Nokia, and will definitely not take another contract out with Vodafone.

N97 Problems Refreshing Music

I put some music on yesterday and had no problems the first time refreshing. However, now....
No problems with Ovi software; it seems as if the files are on the phone - i can see them using Windows Explorer and on the phone via the mass storage sound files folder - but when trying to refresh, they simply don't. I haven't done anything differently..... at least, I am not aware that I have.
How do I get them into the Music Library now?

I also have a problem with the music player on my N97 and the software for my PC. They're not the same but I though it worth mentioning.
When I backed up my N95 files and transferred them to my N97 I included the music. It had lost all album info so was a random mess. I deleted them all and went on the music player programme on pc suite to download them again. It searched my hard drive and produced about 3 copies of each song. I deleted the duplicates for a few albums and transferred them to my N97. Again some duplicates were produced so I sorted it again. I then decided to refresh my music list and my phone found all the old songs I had deleted.
Is there any way for my N97 not to search for old songs that I transferred from my old phone using content copier?
Can the music player on nokia pc suite do a cleaner search?
If the standard prgrammes can't do all this are there third party apps/programmes than can do this better?

Nokia N97 Problem

I have had my N97 now for a couple of months now and i have had no problems. I usually keep my phone on silent and what use to happen was when i get a text it vibrates and all worked fine.
But it started going wrong firstly by, the phone vibrated now and then even though i didn't receive a message which was a bit annoying. But now the phone wont even virbrate, the screen wont light up or the message icon wont display when i get a message.
It also doesn't do anything when the phone is on general with all the tones turned up on loud. I dont get any messaging tones or the screen doesn't light up
I haven't changed any settings so i dont know what has happened, any ideas guys??

You can use the Ovi suite to backup all your files to a PC or just copy the Music, Videos & Pictures directly to your PC using windows explorer. The N97 will appear in Windows as a storage device, you will see 3 drives under the N97 in windows explorer, the phone memory, mass memory and memor card will be the last one.
You can also use the built in backup (Applications- Office- File Manager - Backup) on the phone to backup everything to your memory card. You can choose to backup everything or just certain things. I would recommend this for backing up your contacts, calander entries and bookmarks but you are better off copying whatever files you need off the mass memory to a PC.
Also when restoring your contacts etc from the memory card after you have done the hard reset and formatted the mass memory don't restore the settings as I have found this to sometimes cause problems as you might be reintroducing some settings back to the phone that are causing issues. Better off to start with a clean setup and reinstall any apps also, don't restore the.
