N97 Screen Lock / answering call problem.

I have an N97 with software version 11.0.021.
If my phone is locked, and someone phones, I can either answer the call or unlock the phone.
If I unlock the phone, all is OK. BUT if I choose to answer the call, when the remote caller hangs up, my screen stays black - unless I open the keyboard - but closing the keyboard causes the screen to go black again.
The only way I have found to recover from this is to power the phone off and back on again...

The animated graphics when a call comes in actually mean something. You should just place your finger on the screen, and slide it in the direction the arrow leads, for the approriate action. So, to answer, place the finger on the screen, and slide it from left to right.

Exactly. The only thing that confuses people is the unlock that also shows up on the screen. This leads them to believe that the device is locked.
I think it's not just the lack of detail in the manual but, they should do away with that "unlock" feature altogether from showing up when a call comes in. I note there's two modes here; two functions actually: hardware answer key and a software GUI.
Since there's two means to answering the device, if your using the hardware key, it makes sense to have to unlock it first and, on the software means of answering, there's no need to unlock it as the swipe motion will answer the call.

Yes, the phone will often hang if you answer a call by sliding your finger across the screen. I suggest that you get used to unlocking your phone before you answer the call. There are so many people with this bug, that it's almost sure to be addressed in a future firmware update.

I have an annoying problem with my phone: the screen lock doesn't seem to work properly during calls. The lock goes off during calls, and very often the call is accidentally put on hold, ended, or put on speaker because of unwanted touch events.
Is there a fix or workaround for this issue?

Never had that issue. It seems a buggy prox sensor.
Try installing PocketLock ( http://store.ovi.com/content/35377 ) (free) and then run it and back to homescreen. Try your finger near the E7 logo. My device locks when the finger is about 1cm far from the screen.

N97 Numeric keypad on call problem

Hi All,
Quick question. When you call a company which has an automated IVR, sometimes you have to enter not just numbers but also letters. The touchscreen keypad which comes up on the N97 while on a call can enter numbers fine but displays no letters above the numbers (as per use with T9) is there any update or way to adjust this to display the letters above the numbers or is it a case of guess work?

Just after you dial the number and begin the call the lower right-hand soft-key on the touchscreen says "Dialer".
Press this and the keypad comes back up for you to use.

Screen lock during call

I'm sorry if this has aleady been dealt with but couldn't find anything on it.
Is there ANY way of getting the screen to lock when on a call as I'm constantly putting people on hold, mute and even dialing other numbers when on a call as my face touches the screen? I'm sure it can't just be me and my big face?!

do you have a case on the phone? If so, take it off and try using the phone.

N8 Answering Calls problem

Sometimes when I try to answer an incomming call nothing happens when I press the answer button. This doesn't happen all the time, but enough to be a bother. I have played around with unlocking (Side slider button) and locking the phone when trying to answer but to no avail.
Anybody else with this problem? Or might just be a bug that has no solution?
Any help would be great.

think it has to do with the sensitivity sensor of the n8, which is in place to not accidently grace touch something, but can be annoying if you are fast lightly toucher or when you swype a bit by touching then the tactile feedback of the n8 does give the sign you touched but then he doesnt see as a press

I really like my N8 but there's annoying thing. While I'm calling, in the most cases the screen turns on and with my face I press the buttons on it. So I always end my calls unwantedly or turn on the speakers...
Is there any solution for that? I've not found any settings or software for that yet.

Sounds like the proximity sensor is faulty on your phone. You should have it checked out at your local Nokia Care point.

Screen cannot lock or go black when answering call

This make me always touch the button of the screen when answering calls...is it the sensor problem?

When you say "holding" is it both the sleep switch and the home button until the Apple Logo comes up? If it isn't then I would recomend doing that. If not, turn the phone off and then (while holding the home button) plug it in to iTunes, this will send the phone into recovery mode and will need to be restored from there. Note* this process does have the possibility of losing data if it is not backed up on the computer!!!

I have had the same issue which was driving me mad but think I have just found a way around it. In iOS 7 if you swipe up on the lock screen to access quick settings and go into timer then click the home button you get into the phone without calling the person back. Not a great 'fix' but hope it works for you. Come on Apple this isn't good enough, fix this bug otherwise you will lose your customers.

It might have happened when I was accessing my camera bypassing the lock screen!
All I know is that the thing is now useless and it looks like I will have to wait for the battery to run down to see if powering it back up afterwards will solve the problem.

I have since discovered the "hold down home key and power button" together for a few seconds and this seems to have worked .... phew!

It's not possible with Windows Phone 8. What's the point, a call is coming in and the phone allows you to answer.

How do I make my Thunderbolt screen stay locked during an incoming call? It's very difficult to retrieve the phone without touching the screen and accidentally rejecting the call. Same problem with calendar and clock alerts. Is there any way to change this?

you may want to consider using a lockscreen widget. something like THIS. i haven't used it, but i believe you can use it to set the lockscreen to a different type a access (as opposed to the very simple swype that answers calls). i too had this issue when pulling the phone out of my pocket. i often answered the call before even getting the phone out.

Xfce4: Problems with Sound and Screen Locking on ASUS G53S

Hello everyone,
I recently installed Arch for the first time, and decided to use xfce4 for my desktop environment. Everything seems to work well after I followed the instructions given in the wiki, except for the sound and screen-locking functionality. Regarding the sound, I made sure that my user account is added to the audio group, and installed the gstreamer1.0-base-plugins and gstreamer1.0-good-plugins packages. The xfce4-mixer applet starts up without any warnings and recognizes the available devices, but I am still not able to hear any sound. The "Lock Screen" applet simply does nothing upon being clicked. Do you have any ideas as to what I should try in order to fix these problems?

To be able to lock the screen you have to install and configure a screen locker or screen saver, e.g. xscreensaver, slock, i3lock, maybe combined with xautolock. When you use a screen locker and not xscreensaver, XFCE might not recognize it. Then create a symlink in /usr/local/bin/xflock4 or use a shellscript if you need to pass parameters.
My configuration: xautolock with i3lock. /usr/local/bin/xflock4 is this executable shellscript:
#!/bin/sh
xautolock -locknow
xautolock is started in the XFCE autostart with this commandline: xautolock -locker 'i3lock -d -i ~/Bilder/arch/arch-linux-lock.png'
PS: If you like i3lock and need user switching capabilities, I can give you a patch where Ctrl-S calls a custom command (gdmflexiserver by default)
