N97, serious, big problem???

I bought a N97 in Hong Kong about 2 weeks ago. After one week the touch screen stopped to works. There is also a quite big white spot mark on the inside of the screen. After working with electronics and mechatronics (mechatronic) the last 30 years, and a plastic expert, my theory is that it seems like it have been really hot (fire) inside the telephone which have, in order, maked the marks on the screen. I already have a lighter for my cigars, I do not a telephone act as a lighter (a joke of course, but I do not like things like this happens). I have sent a angry mail to Nokia about the warranty for a telephone bought in Hong Kong. I have not mentioned the above serious matter. After many years in the electronic industry, I know the most of the "dirty" tricks. One trick is to sell the best quality to the Europeen market. Hong Kong get the second best, and Mainland China get the lowest quality. It is difficult to prove, and all companies including Nokia will of course denied it. Anyway, I am really dissapointed over Nokias new N97. Maybe they should start again to produce timber and rubber boots

In the theory, you could have right. But what to do with all phones that are completely out of production spec.? All failures? Tolerances? and so on. I could have give you a long lesson about "real life" producktion nowadays, but I will rather give you a short anser. To use your theory in the real life, Nokia must produce all phones with no failure. Probably the only way to do that is to employ a "Nokia voodoo priest" that have the big overview and blesses all telephone as they passes through the product line. Mayby he was "twinkle winkle" with his eyes when my telephone passed. That could explain why my telephone passed with produktion failure! After working with product development and production the last 25 years, I have big respect for emloyes working in Nokia. Development and production is very complicated with a high stress factor, and sometimes things goes wrong for everybody. But Nokias service and warranty politic is more conserning. They should act in a quite other manner when a custumer becomes the owner of a telephone with production failure, wherever it was bought! One example: Many years ago, I bought an IBM T42 in Hong Kong, which was one of the top models at that time and costed 5 times more than a usual laptop today. The IBM functioned perfect, but after appr. 3 years, I got probleme with the cd-rom. I called IBM international, and they only asked for my adr. zip no. The warranty was world wide.Then I got an adress to delivered it. It was only 10 minutes drive from my home. IBM did not ask for a receipt, nor my name. They only wanted my telephone number. The day after, they called and I collected the T42. They have changed the cd-rom and it was free of cost!! I also lately bought a Acer aspire one, and I noticed they have a world wide travel warranty. As long as we, the customers, think the one country limited warranty is OK, we support and accept the politics of companies like Nokia. And they can keep on and on because of that. Should we not do anything about it? What about a list in this forum that shows companies that have world wide warranty and not? It will be useful for more than Nokia owners.

    You may try the list and see how far down you need to go; you have probably been through 1) and 2), and 4) is both reversible and more thorough than 3); 5) is hardly relevant, so you may end up with 6).
    The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file (you may have tried/done some of them already); 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
    If possible/applicable, you should save current artwork first, of course.
    1) Close down Illy and open again;
    2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to at least 5 times);
    3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
    4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
    5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
    Even more seriously, you may:
    6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

    Apple has made a serious error not advising people when the Lion upgrade occurs that their present software may/will not be compatible and advise the user of such before and allow a opt out.
    All you can do (besides upgrading all your software) is backup your data off the machine (not to TimeMachine) and disconnect all drives.
    Hold c boot off the 10.6 disk and erase your makers hard drive on the far left, (that's the entire drive of everything)
    Partition tab: Option: GUID, format OS X extended and click apply so you get a new GUID (replacing the Lion one or trouble occurs later)
    Quit and install 10.6, then go through setup and use the same name as before, then update to 10.6.8
    Then c boot off the 10.6 disk again and use Disk Utility to Repair the disk the 10.6.8 update messed up.
    Then install all your programs again from fresh sources and lastly your user files in the same main user folders as before (music, pictures, documents etc.)
    Done as described will get you back just like it was before as close as possible, make SURE to use the same username or else your iTunes and other files get all messed up. Password and drive name can be different though if you wish.
    Note: if you've upgraded from 10.5 to 10.6, then you don't get the free iLife as it's not on the 10.6.3 white disks, only on the disks that came with your machine. So that will have to be purchased and reinstalled or use Pacifist to extract it from the 10.5 disks.

  • XSan Corrupt Files Causing Big Problems

    We have 2 PPC XServes running 10.4.8 with XSan 1.4.1 on 1x Xraid, xsan user quotes are also setup. This all seems to be working smoothly but we have serious issues when users save files that have exceeded the file space they have been given.
    We get corrupted files ending up 0k or 4k. Basically students think they have saved files correct but when they come back to opening the file it is corrupted so they loose work. It is becoming a big problem as students are loosing work and I dont have any control of notifying the user before they hit the quota limit they have been assigned.
    Does anyone else have this problem or a solution as I would greatly appreciate this.

    When you setup user quotas in XSAN admin, you should be able to set a soft quota and a hard quota, this should result in your users getting warning message when the soft quota is exceed and an error message of -1425 when they try to write over their hard quota.
    There's also a quota application installed with XSAN that tells them how close to their quota they are at at all times.
    Are you not seeing any error messages before the quota is exceeded? And exactly how are these files corrupted? Can they not open them at all or can they open them and it's just not quite right?

  • How to load an image without a gui? big problems...

    Hey guys, I usually try my best to not ask for help and figure stuff out myself. But this last week i've been having big problems with this work project.
    My goal is to load images from disk, and append them to each other to create one big image.
    The images are 0-9.jpg each file containing a number in it. then i create one big file with 4 numbers in it. called final.jpg.
    so far i can do all this, but whenever the program is finished, the application just keeps running. the program has literally gone through all the steps... i have a system.out.println printed on the last line after the main, after the class instantiation... and still it stays running.
    how do you guys load images without a gui? This program will probably be running under unix, so i can't create a (for component example)
    Panel() and media track the file load... so i'm pretty much stumped
    any help you guys can provide would be really incredibly helpfull at this point. I have searched these threads for a few hours without luck. I found only 1 real post related to my problem, but eventually they said use MediaTracker = new Mediatracker( new Panel() ); which i can't use. :(

    Before 6 months I bought new Iphone 4s,but it was used one day from person who sell it to me, so it already has Apple id.
    I deleted user and created my user which was synced with iCloud and worked without any problem.
    Before 10 I bought Iphone 5, also created my Apple ID on it and sync with my PC/ iCloud.
    Yesterday I want to sell my first Iphone 4 and I did reset ( Erase all content and setting), but it did not want to wake up, so i started it with DFU mode using I tunes, and I did restore and update.
    Now I am facing to bit problem, on the begging steps it says something like "this apple id cannot be used to unlock this iphone".
    If I go to iCloud I can see only one device and currently its new iPhone 5, but both devices called with same name, so I am not sure is this problem.
    So I have two doubts:
    - I am not sure does SIM card can make this problem(on initiation phase you have to put sim in Iphone), because main is much smaller now so I using my wife SIM to finis registration Iphone 4 (iPhone 5 using smaller than iPhone4)?
    - another thing It says you have to "use original apple id..", like I sad on the beginning when i bought Iphone4 it already has apple id on it, which I was deleted and configure main (afterwards this device was visible on my iCloud). So do I need to put first creaded apple id, does iPhone remembering first created or last used. If yes I have big problem because I dont have contact of user who sell it to me.
    I want to add one thing, Iphone is not stolen I have warranty documentations and all profs that is not stolen.
    PLEASE HELP, in my country we have awful support !

    Just left the Apple store with an official answer.  You can have two phones one Apple ID, turn off auto updates so you don't automatically get apps on both phones. Then you need two different iCloud accounts.

    What program did you use to fix the internal hard drive? What repairs did it report making? More crucially, if repairs were reported, did you re-run the utility until it reported no problems found? It's possible for one set of problems with a drive to mask others.
    If you have about 5GB or so free space on the internal hard drive, you can use your OS X Install disc to perform an Archive and Install to recover from the failed Software Update. When the computer restarts, download and run the OS X Update Combo 10.4.11 (Universal). When the Mac restarts after that, run Software Update. During all this, make sure nothing interrupts or shuts down the Mac! Note that the first start after each of these updates will take significantly longer than subsequent starts, so be very patient.
    How did you back up your internal drive to the external one? Did you just drag things over in the Finder, or did you use a utility such as SuperDuper! or CarbonCopyCloner? Does the external HD show up as a bootable volume in System Preferences > Startup Disk, or using Startup Manager?

    Can anyone help me find the problem with peterlance.com? It looks like author Peter Lance uses iWeb to update his web site. He redesigned it recently (and did not use iWeb for the old design). Anyway, it has serious performance problems on Internet Explorer, which I was hoping you guys could help pinpoint? Is there something simple I can tell him to try to fix the problem? He is launching a new book on Tuesday so he will be getting a lot of traffic, but for now the response time is not very good. Any suggestions?
    In particular, each new page seems to hang for about ten seconds and freeze using Internet Explorer 6. Any fixes?

    There are several plain .jpg's and that's good, but you need to convert every .png on the page (or as many .png's as you can) to a .jpg. For example,

    The ones you won't be able to do anything about are the ones that are a part of the blog, but that will be only 5 images instead of the many you have now.

    Is covering part of your menu which is why it appears that only the top half is sensitive to rolling over. You'll have to adjust your layout to account for this.
    Another area to look at, there are white boxed png's surrounding the amazon book covers at the top.

    Another set of .png's you'll have to get rid of. How did those get put on the page?
    What you see happening with IE is a java script running to fix IE's problem with png's. The fewer .png's you have, the less of a problem with IE you have.

  • Serious performance problems after updating from 10.5.6 to 10.5.7

    I've got a Macbook Pro C2D 15" (late 2006). After updating the system from 10.5.6 to 10.5.7 and quicktime to 7.6.2, I experience serious performance problems which I have never seen before:
    -From time to time, kernel_task has peaks in activity monitor (consumes a lot of CPU). In that moment, the mouse hangs for a short moment and audio playback is distorted/has drop outs.
    -Recording audio consumes a lot of CPU (independent of the audio application).
    -Video playback consumes a lot of CPU, regardless if I use VLC or the quicktime player.
    Any idea what could be done? Thanks in advance.

    After a few days of using CoolBook I report that my 1st generation MacBook Air is now reliable and never overheating, regardless of environment conditions.
    I must point out that I do believe that it really is something new in 10.5.7 that is causing this problem as my environmental conditions have not changed and even Summer in Dublin still sees temperatures no more than 72F/22C. I am now in Madrid, where the environment is quite different, and I am still having no problem with kernel_task spinning.
    I plan on reporting my problem to Apple anyway and being aggressive about the issue as MacLovinRanga did in this thread (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9647353#9647353). Perhaps many/all of those of us having this problem will obtain new MacBook Airs.

    Basic Troubleshooting Steps when all else fails
    - Quit the App by opening multi-tasking bar, and swiping the App upward to make it disappear.  (For iOS 6 older, hold down the icon for the App for about 3-5 seconds, and then tap the red circle with the white minus sign.)
    - Relaunch the App and try again.
    - Restart the device. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
    - Reset the device. (Same article as above.)
    - Reset All Settings (Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings)
    - Restore from backup. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766 (If you don't have a backup, make one now, then skip to the next step.)
    - Restore as new device. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137  For this step, do not re-download ANYTHING, and do not sign into your Apple ID.
    - Test the issue after each step.  If the last one does not resolve the issue, it is likely a hardware problem.
