N97 & VoIP?

Could someone possibly point me in the right direction for setting up VoIP on the N97 please?
I have been using an N95 8GB with several SIP profiles (Voipfone, Sipgate, coms.com) and all have worked well.  I have found the SIP settings in the N97 and have setup my Voipfone account.  It is registering correctly, but I can’t find the Internet Telephone application that existed on the N95 8GB, or any way to make or receive a VoIP call.
I’m not so concerned about Skype (though it would be good to have it) and I know I can use Fring for VoIP accounts, but would rather use the native application … if I could find it! A search of the downloaded N97 manual shows no entries for VoIP, which is worrying.
Many thanks in advance,
Allan

Hi guys!
I am working in Nokia IT but I cannot provide you any link from our intranet Wiki pages
I don't really know what you mean by having certain application/s for Voip but at least our Nokia corporation Voip setup using SIP-profiles will be supported when pr2.0 is released. It means that you can really choose from phonebook that you want to take voip call instead of voice or video call. I can see already now that my phone SIP profiles has registered successfully via WLAN AP but I cannot really use it with current N97 SW release.
And what comes to other models below are the current phone models which are supporting Voip SIP-usage:
e51
e61i from 2.0633.65.01
e63
e65
e66
e71
e90
n95
n95 8gb

  • N97 VoIP Issue

I am hoping someone may be able to help us.
We have just purchased a Nokia N97 believing it had VoIP cabilities but obviously now know it does not.  We have gone through the process of updating the software and have also had the mobile phone registered on our phone system seeing it as a extension and we can even go as far as to make a extension to extension call via N97, our problem is when we ring the N97 from the office station we get like a fast busy signal and the call seems to go no where, on the extension in the office it shows the mobiles extension number and the user name does not say not connected.  I know this is probably just a simple setting that we have not done, but am getting very frustrated and the owner of has gone back to his E71 which has no trouble making or receiving extension to extension calls as does my N95 8gig has full facilities.
I will thankyou in advanced for any help you may be able to give.

  • N97 & VoIP / ToIP

    Hello,
I've used for years a E-95 and decided to move to the exciting N-97.
And now I'm experiencing a big regression : No ToIP feature in the N-97.
You can define SIP parameters, the phone does register correctly with the ToIP provider.
But ... after that : no way to place a ToIP / VoIP call.
I hope this will be fixed in a new firmware soon.

hopefully, it will be restored sometime soon. your only options to explore are 3rd party apps
    fring.com
    truphone.com
i am sure there are more if you google . i realize it is not the same thing but it might work until hopefully it gets replaced with native app from nokia

  • N97: making voip calls via the GSM mobile

    Hi All;
I am facing a problem that my Nokia N97 that is working with VoIP (via the SIP), is only working if I am using my wireless internet in the home (via the access point), but when I try to do the call using my GSM internet service provider (we call it EGO and in some countries it is GPRS).
Some other mobile, they support VoIP using the wireless access point or the internet via the GSM (mobile) service provider ...
So how can I fix this issue on my N97?
    Regards
    Bilal

I have the same problem: I can make and receive calls using my router but not through GPRS allthough i did set AWCDMA' and 'UAWMAC' to ON

  • Internet (voip/SIP) calls on N97

    Hi,
I was using Internet calls feature on N95. On N97 the only thing what I was able to do is to define SIP profile. It is defined. I am able to register to the SIP server ... but no way to use this server for Internet Calls. I simply do not have possibility to select Internet call. I may select Voice or Video but not Internet as it was on N95. Any ideas?
    regards,

If you read the documentation that has been revised recently (yeah that is sneaky) you see alot of mentions of 'you may' or 'there might be' and somthing about a widget you might find that does not exist.  Basically if Nokia wants to enable this with SIP Voip Settings App (like they had for 3.x and 2.x) they could do so quite easily.
See the attached for a screen snap of the new documentation.
The question is are they going to do this, or am I moving on to another company that is semi rational and has better communication skills than a 1 year old.  I've been patient and silent since the day I unpacked this phone, but today I have lost patience with waiting for something i know they can enable in 2 minutes.
I love my purple screen, 1/2 day battery, sketchy touch screen and $800 price tag - I call it my Lumia 900

  • N97 Mini VOIP failure after 11.0.045 upgrade

Just upgraded my N97 mini to version 11.0.045 and the built-in VOIP got buggy. VOIP call only working for the first call after a phone restart ! The registration is successful al the time, but no audio and connectivity after 1st call. I'm subscribed to a Betamax Voip service.
I'm connecting through Wifi. I freshly downloaded and reinstalled the SIP Voip settings software. No luck.
I also notice some strange behaviors.. When I logoff from VOIP service, the Wifi is not turning off (no other service using the connection). And in the advanced settings I see the profile is "Registered", which was not so before upgrade. Now, to release the registration, I had to do a restart.
    Please advice.

Hi, I also just upgraded to 11.0.045 on my Nokia N97 Mini.
I cannot log on to my SIP profile at all any more! Nothing happens when clicking on it or selecting Options--> Connect.
I also reinstalled the SIP VoIP software (SIP_VoIP_3_1_Settings_S60_5_x_v1_0_en.sis) but this could not solve the problem either.
I do very much rely on VoIP so I am very disappointed by Nokia!
    Can any one help??

  • N97 - No log-in from the VOIP service menu

I am stuck though I have followed Nokia's procedure for configuring my phone for VOIP calls: Log-in from the VOIP service menu doesn't happen. My SIP-profile is registered. However, I have two VOIP services defined (two globes) with the same name as a consequence of a problem when installing "S60 5.x SIP VoIP 3.1 Settings", then reinstalling, and I do not know how to delete one (the other displays my username correctly). Under the globe, the following text is displayed "Contact not on the contact list. To add, select 'Add fro..."  and no more. My phone is a N97 RM-505 with software version 21.0.045. Would appreciate any help. Thanks

  • App removal on N97

I have recently had to reset my N97, and, having done so, I can't get the home screen VoIP status/login tool to work - it's just grey.
In order to free up some space on my phone, which I think has been the root of my problem, I was thinking of removing some applications from the phone - those which are removable but are not ones I use - to see if that helps before going to a care point for assistance.
However, I am not sure if the app manager is fully "dependency aware". Will it warn me if I try to remove an app on which another depends?
(BTW I still cannot make SIP calls over 3G with it - though it does work on my old N95 - I have another thread open for that and hope the next N97 update fixes it.)

It only warns that all associated content with this application will be removed but does not specify which are these... so a bit tricky...But as far as I have experienced, I have done this n no. of times (un-installed applications that I am sure have installed... repeat, I have installed) and it did not affect my phone in anyways..

  • VoIP problem Nokia E52

    Hi!
I have a problem trying to setup JustVoIP service on my Nokia E52. I installed the VoIP Settings Manager and set up everything as below:
    Profile Name: justvoip
    Service Profile: IETF
Default Destination: Internet (I am using VoIP via my Home-WLAN)
    Default Access Point:  none
Public Username: sip:[email protected] (Note: “sip:” will always be added automatically)
    Use compression: No
Registration: When needed or always on (choose your preference)
    Use Security: No
Proxy & Registration Server have identical(!) values:
    Server Address: sip:sip.justvoip.com
    Realm: justvoip.com
    User name: YOURJUSTVOIPUSERNAME
    Password: YOURJUSTVOIPPASSWORD
    Allow loose routing: Yes
    Transport type: UDP
    Port: 5060
I see the service but I cannot enable it. Whan I try to activate, the message "Invalid settings" appeares. The most funny thing is, that at the beginnig it worked fine! With the same settings! Anybody know, what is going on here?
    Thank you for your help!

Same issue on E72 and XM 5630 here. Other people experienced it also with N97.
you can read this info in http://discussion.forum.nokia.com/forum/showthread.php?t=192607
VoIP3.x registers a user, it writes a randomly translated username in the contact URI, i.e. aweofj293j2c0239jdwiofje0@nataddress instead of username@nataddress
Ougoing calls are not an issue (when the client succeeds to register) howevver for incoming calls the server has to put this translatedusername in the request-URI of his INVITE. Some Registars do that, but yours and mine don't.
This interpretation of how SIP should work by Nokia was not implemented in prior versions of Nokia VoIP settings (v 2. and v 1 used on FP1 models such as E61, N95, etc) thus enabling incoming calls to work for all.
Now however it seems this is the new standard Nokia has chosen to go for with all new models thus leaving us with a choice to either :
1- have our service providers patch their registrars to make them work with this new Nokia implementation or
2- use alternative third party VoIP apps for our devices instead of the native/integrated Nokia SIP client. or
3- change SIP service provider to use ones that run Registrars compatible with this new implementation...

  • Nimbuzz no longer opening on my N97 mini.

I have been using Nimbuzz for a few months now on my N97 mini. All of a sudden it will not open anymore. I click on it to open and it flashes as though its about to open, but then nothing happens. I uninstalled it and installed a new version. It worked the first time i opened it, but again from the second time onwards, it will not open at all. I know Nimbuzz is banned in the UAE, but it was opening fine before, and skype is also banned but it also opens on my N97. I wanted to post a message on the Nimbuzz site, but I cannot do so as the site is blocked in the UAE. So here was my only option. Can anyone please help?

I checked Nimbuzz forum and found the following reply from Nimbuzz regarding UAE.
"We are aware of a current VoIP blocking in your country applied by the official regulations. Due to these circumstances unfortunately we cannot provide you with a solution for it.
We are investigating this issue and meanwhile we recommend you to try to call using other networks."
It appears that quite a few other Middle Eastern countries have the same policies so you may have the same issue in those countries too.

  • Is the new Firmware version of 5800 supports VoIP?

I want just want to ask for those whoe already updated their 5800 to version 40 firmware if their phone already supports VoIP. I've read on some forums that Nokia 5800 doesn't support VoIP. Is the new update already have like the VoIP support of N97?

No, it's voip capabilities are exactly the same as previous firmware versions so it still does not support true native voip like the N97 does.
The 5800 is highly unlikely to ever receive this feature.  As before you will need to use a program such as fring or nimbuzz for voip on the 5800.

  • Anyone moved from e71 to n97 mini?

    Hello,
I've been a faithful fan of the Eseries line for several years (E61i->e71). The phones are rock solid except for some issues with VOIP. The e72 isn't getting much love these days on the Nokia Discussion pages or on in the Amazon Reviews. Sure some people love it but way too many "Don't buy it posts" out there from e71 owners.
So, have any of you Eseries fans moved over to the N97 mini? The N97 (Big Brother) doesn't get much good press but several people have mentioned the N97 mini is great and as good as an Eseries phone. I need something small since I use my e71 with Sportstracker while running and biking. Anyone out there switch from a e71 or Eseries to the n97 mini and love it?
    Thanks

Just do it, you won't regret it, check out Steve Litchfield on AAS or the phone show !
    http://3lib.ukonline.co.uk/sshow/ss99.html
have used, but not owned an E-Series, and  no-one else has replied yet so do a bit of research and take a chance, it's a completely different experience, but will do your 'E' stuff and a LOT more
    Good Luck

  • N97 and SIP out of the box?

    Hi there,
I have a N97 with the latest firmware V21 and wonder, does it now support SIP out of  the box? I found a thread on this forum where one explained how to install necessary voip setting for the N97. Is this still necessary or does it now work out of the box? My N97 does not have a branding, so no harm from this side.
    Regards

    Hi there,
just finished installing voip setup with Axon.
This works fine with softphones and linksys pap2 (inbound, outbound and extentions to eachother).
But on my N97 (V20.0.019) there's no sound.
Registration is done and axon shows the extension as available but  the call/line is opened without accepting and closed after a couple of seconds without sound.
    Any suggestions on this

  • N97 firmware not available to everyone

    Hello,
If there are some nokia officials around .... please forward this to your decision makers!
Nokia announced the v12 firmware availability:
    <http://europe.nokia.com/get-support-and-software/download-software/device-software-update/news>
I own a nokia n97 - RM505 model and I was a long time nokia phone user. The n97 was my last phone that I ever bought from nokia! The way Nokia makes their firmware available is unacceptable. The n97 is unstable with the v11 firmware and I, as an n97 user think I should be able to update the firmware whenever a new firmware is available.
I encourage every disatified Nokia to do the same and not buy their products anymore. I'm 1 user, but the sum of the one users make the difference! This firmware policy is simply unacceptable for me!
    One lost customer!
    Didier Wiroth from Luxembourg

Branding means when someone (a telco typically) does some customization so that the phone software is "special" to them. E.g. it could be that some special logo is displayed as the phone starts up, or shuts down, or there are some extra programs, extra features. Sometimes, features are removed, so that customers cannot use the phone for something that could be detrimental to the telco's revenue (e.g. to disallow VOIP features from working over the GPRS/HSDPA network). These branded phones are bought through telcos, possibly subsidized, possibly tied to a phone contract, etc. But it might also be possible that you could buy an unbranded phone from telcos.
Note that this is not the same as SIM-locked phones. Phones that are SIM locked means that you can only use the phone with that telco's SIM card. Phones that are not SIM-locked (i.e. SIM free) can still be branded.
