NAC Agent/ActiveX/Java applet

Hi,
For L3 OOB deployment , does any one know how the NAC agent/ActiveX/Java applet refresh the IP address for the client??
i know that In the Login Page configuration, two options need to be checked to use the ActiveX/Applet webclient to
refresh the client’s IP address:
- Use web client to detect client MAC address and Operating System
- Use web client to release and renew IP address when necessary (OOB) .
But what i need to know how the agent/ActiveX/Java applet refresh the IP address for the client???
are these programs ( agent/ActiveX/Java applet ) triggers the client machine to do that???
regards
MAM

MAM,
You're right. The applets do indeed trigger a dhcp refresh on the machines. This is to avoid bouncing the port which can be problematic when you have IP phones.
More info on this in the docs here: http://tinyurl.com/yhnskdf

Could someone explain to me "specifically" what do "you" do
to remove the IE6 message "Press spacebar to activate or use
control" message from a coldFusion "Cfform" or "CFgrid"? I've been
successfull at removing the message from a Flash movie in my
Javascript. But how do you do that with a whole Coldfusion form.
With the stand-alone Flash movie in my Javascript we write
the "string" that produces the Flash object to a varible, then call
a external Javascript file to "document.write" the object out
again, but how would you do that with a Flash Coldfusion form or a
CFGrid? The Flash Coldfusion form's code is generated dynamically?
Could someone explain specifically what I need to do to
    correct this problem?

This has been 'fixed' in cfmx 7.02. There is a
    hot fix for cfmx 7.01.
The 7.01 hot fix points to an article on the Adobe site that
describes the issue. The same article points to a Microsoft article
which has other various scripting workarounds that can be
    used.

I have a legacy ActiveX/ocx plugin that the client wants to be run as a Java Applet. They think that will make things J2EE compliant.
How would you wrap that? are there libraries to help?

  • Question about cisco nac agent

When I deploy Cisco NAC appliance, the main different between using cisco nac appliance with or without agent? I see Cisco NAC agent has two function: scan and remediation. If Cisco NAC appliance without agent, Cisco NAC server will scan device and remediation. That is right?
Please answer me early. Thank you for your answer.

Sorry, I believe daldden is correct, without the agent you can still scan using the built-in Nessus scanner.
We don't use the Nessus scanner, but these are some things to consider if you use the scanner. These are from memory though so anyone who actively uses the scanner may be able to give more up to date or complete info:
    1) You have to decide which vulnerabilities you want to scan for.
    2) The more plug-ins you enable, the longer (obviously) the scan takes.
    3) There are configuration steps for many of the plug-ins
    4) Your users will still need to go to a login page in order to be scanned.
    5) You have to configure the remediation information (URL, steps, etc) for each plug-in you enable.
From our view point, the only reason we would enable the scanner is if we were looking for a specific vulnerability, perhaps a new threat that didn't yet have a patch. If it had a patch, we would watch for the patch using the agent (installed or web based).
It was much easier for us to use the agent, to scan their system and make sure that the MS critical hot fixes were installed and/or an AV system was installed and up to date. As mentioned, if there is a patch for a vulnerability, you can use the agent to make sure that specific hot fix is installed.
Remember that there is also a web agent. The web agent is an ActiveX or Java (you pick which one you want to use) applet that is loaded onto the person's machine, the system scanned, then the applet is unloaded.
Of course, the agent is only for MSoft (with some MAC options), so if you have Linux systems, the Nessus scanner would be your only option.

  • Problem Launching Java Applet with Plug-in: Version 1.4.2_01

    Hello out there:
I recently installed j2re-1.4.2_01 on my home computer but have been unable to access Web sites emmploying JAva applets. The following is an email exchange with Jeff Hall of Lowell Observatory, manager of an educational site hosted by Lowell, trying to resolve my problem. The messages are better understood if read in reverse order.
I'm hoping that someone will recognize the source of my problem and can recommmend a solution. I would appreciate any help offered.
    Thanks,
    Mike Coucke
    Hi Jeff:
Well, I guess the problem lies with me somewhere. Here's my answer/status to your questions/suggestions:
    1) I'm using MS Windows Me version 4.90.3000
    2) I do have the directory C:\Windows\.jpi_cache\jar\, but the only thing in it is an empty folder labeled "1.0". The file LP.jar does not exist anywhere on my hard drive.
    3) I tried several game sites that utilized Java applets and got the same results: the Java cup in the upper left corner followed a few seconds later by the red "X". So, evidently the problem is somewhere on my end.
I'm going to post our email exchanges in a Java Users Forum managed by Sun to see if anyone out there can solve my problem. However, if you have any more suggestions, I'll be glad to try them.
    Thanks for the help.

    Mike,
Rats! What version of Windows are you using? It's a little strange to
see the user directory set to C:\Windows; if you're using XP, I'd expect
it to be something like C:\Documents and Settings\Mike Coucke. In any
event, the output that is of concern is these two lines:
    java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: LPRemote.class
    Caused by: java.net.UnknownHostException: proxy
It looks like your browser is not finding our server's IP when it comes
time to download the necessary Java code.
LPRemote.class is the fundamental code that runs LOPARC, and your
browser should be downloading it automatically when you click connect.
LPRemote.class is stored along with a bunch of other classes in a file
called "LP.jar" that you download from our server. So, if you go to C:
in Windows Explorer and do a file search for LP.jar, you should find it.
On my machine, it's stored in a directory called ".jpi_cache\jar\" in my
user home directory. Let me know if you have this file, or the
    jpi-cache directory.
One other thing you might try is going to a different site that you know
uses Java applets -- I think some of the online game rooms at Yahoo use
Java. See if other sites that use Java load correctly. Then we'll know
if it's our server specifically, or a more general problem on your end.

    Hello Jeff:
I still have the Java "blues". I followed your instructions, but am still unable to launch a LOPARC session. After an initial failure, I uninstalled all three Java versions I had (1.4.0, 1.4.1, 1.4.2), then reinstalled 1.4.2_01 from the Sun website.
Now, when I try to launch LOPARC, I initially get a blank window with the Java cup in the upper left corner. After about 20 seconds, the cup changes to a red "X". During those 20 seconds, the following appear in the IE message bar at the bottom of the window: "Applet LPRemote notinited" (their spelling) which changes to "Loading Java Applet Failed..." when the red "X" appears.
Following is a copy of the log from my Java Console during all of this:

    Hi Mike,
Try it now. I think this problem has arisen because Sun just
released a new version of the Plug-in (1.4.2), and when we released the
public beta of LOPARC, only one relevant version (1.4.0) was available
and the LOPARC code was written to look for that by default. I have
just recoded the relevant routines so they should now cause your browser
to simply pick up the latest 1.4 version of the Plug-in you have
installed, whatever it is. I "broke" Java on my machine to replicate
your problem, and the code I inserted today did fix it. Hopefully it
will have the same effect for you. I am running IE 6 and plugin
1.4.2_01 (as accessed via Tools->Sun Java Console).
One broader problem: some (non-LOPARC-specific) users on the Sun
forums have reported the "JRE collision" you are seeing when multiple
versions of the Plug-in are installed on the same machine. So if the
fix I made to our code doesn't work, one option would be to uninstall
all Java components from your computer and do a fresh install of the
    latest runtime environment.
Let me know how/if this works. Thanks for the feedback and for your
    patience.
    Best regards,

    Hello Jeff:
So far, I have been unable to launch a LOPARC session. I repeatedly
    get the following error message:
    "Exception: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: LPRemote.class"
My browser is MS Internet Explorer version 6.0.2800.1106 Initially I was

    and still get the message.
Before I try to launch LOPARC, I can select Tools->Sun Java Console from

    Can you help?

    Dear Michael Coucke:
Thank you for registering with Lowell Observatory's online education
site. We hope you enjoy using it and visit regularly as we continue to
expand its features and capabilities. This is a one-time welcoming
    email.
For your records, your user ID is xxxxx, and your password is #########.
You'll need to supply these each time you log in.
This site gives you access to research-grade equipment including a 16"
telescope, CCD detector, and image processing software. Our online
archive of data is now available 24/7. The telescope will be opening to
our onsite users in May, and on select nights to the Internet at large
    in June.
We have designed this site so you don't need a huge monitor or a
supercomputer to use it. All pages are viewable on screens running at
800x600 resolution or higher. To use LOPARC, you'll need a Java-enabled
browser with the Java 1.4 plug-in installed. If you don't have the
plug-in, you'll be prompted to download it the first time you attempt to
connect. This is an admittedly large (9 MB) but one-time-only download.
This site works correctly under Internet Explorer version 5 or higher.
If you use Netscape, you must be running version 6 or higher, and
display or applet behavior anomalies may occur.
If at any time you can't connect to our server, simply try again later.
We do experience several power outages each year, particularly during
Flagstaff's summer thunderstorm season. Our server is fully protected
and backed up, and can be quickly brought back on line, but any active
user sessions will be lost. Thanks for your patience during these
    inevitable downtimes.
Your questions, comments, suggestions, and bug reports about this site
are always welcome. On behalf of the LOPARC development team, thanks
    for signing up!

    Hi Mike,
I see this in your logs:
    Java(TM) Plug-in: Version 1.4.2_01
Using JRE version 1.4.2_01 Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM
    User home directory = C:\WINDOWS

    Proxy Overrides:
I just helped my Dad set up his computer with a new
cable modem, and had the situation where we couldn't
access any secure Web sites. The cable folks had us
disable the proxy. It looks like the error message is
saying it can't find your proxy server, and the logs
you posted say that you've decided to configure your
proxy manually, rather than using the settings from
IE (which is how mine is set up in the plugin

  • Referencing a "locally installed" Java applet from a server-based HTML page

How does one reference a "locally installed" Java applet from a server-based HTML page (i.e. via the applet, object, or embed tags)? I have seen references in documentation that this is possible, but I have not seen any examples. I have tried a few things, but nothing seems to be working.
    Some background...
I'm working on a web site that aggregates Internet video. For many users, I would like the site to work "without" requiring Java to be installed (or any prompts, etc.). This version of the site allows users to stream videos directly over the Internet and does not require any sort of access to the local system.
However, in addition, I have a download manager that can be installed on the local system. Currently, it's a Windows-based "service" that is always running in the background, downloading files, etc. (with plans to later support other OSes).
My dilemma is trying to communicate between my web site running in the local browser (executing JavaScript code) and the download manager. I call this component the "gateway". I need the gateway to be able to do the following:
    1) Pass user credentials from the web browser UI to the download manager (so it can communicate with my servers).
    2) Check the status of downloaded videos
    3) Launch a local media player (such as Windows Media, QuickTime, etc.) (or perhaps tell the download manager to launch the media player).
Under Windows XP, I have an ActiveX control that can do these things. It communicates with the download manager via reading/writing to a shared XML configuration file.
Unfortunately, under Vista and IE7 Protected Mode, ActiveX controls have become very restricted and my gateway no longer works. As such, I am looking at using Java for the gateway (also giving me the additional benefits of supporting additional browsers and OSes).
From my understanding, I believe I can created a "face-less" Java applet, whose methods can be called from JavaScript. Ideally, I'm thinking I could install the applet onto the local system at the same time the download manager is installed. This would give the applet the security permissions it needs to communicate with the download manager.
Thanks for any help and suggestions!

    Hi,
Put the .jar file and the .class file in the path mentioned in one of the aliases in the plsql.conf file like /images or create
a seperate directory and create an alias like /applets "path" in the plsql.conf file.

  • Print- Save as PDF from Java applet on a webpage in Safari

I am on a Mac running OS X version 10.8.5 and Safari version 6.1.2.  I am using the website www.wordle.net, which uses a Java applet to create a Wordle. The applet has a print button.  The website FAQ says I should be able to save a Wordle as a PDF on a Mac.  When I try to do this I get a small dialog that simply says "Error whilte printing."

Help!  I want to make Wordles for the teachers at my kids school for Teacher Appreciation Week.

    YES!!!!!!!
I was pulling my hair out last night over this. I noticed the Find function was not working properly. I KNEW there was something in the PDF and Preview was not showing it. I spent 2 hours trying to find someone with a similar Find function problem, but could not find much. Also, it could not copy and paste text. I KNOW it worked before because I had taken notes on this particular PDF and had copy and pasted whole paragraphs for myself into Pages. Which is what got me searching online tonight.
I re-downloaded the same PDF. When first opened in Preview, the Find and copy/paste functions worked. Same thing in Acrobat reader and Acrobat Pro. After confirming this, I re-opened it in Preview, highlighted some text and closed. It asked to Save Changes and I did. I immediately re-opened it, and guess what? Find no longer works and neither does copy/paste. Just to be sure, I tried re-opening in Acrobat reader and Pro; same thing. No copy/paste, corrupted Find feature. Well, copy/paste sort of functions, its just that it pastes a square with an alien head in it that says "Private Use 100000 Plane 16".
And finally, on some PDFs that have not even been saved in Preview, the Find function is not working properly also. It happened on the re-downloaded PDF I just talked about. It finds many instances of the word, bit the left and right arrows next to "Found on X# Pages are greyed out and do not move through the document. Once I go to the left pane that displays page thumbnails and click on a few different ones, THEN it starts working.
So yes, Apple, Preview is corrupting PDF files upon save, AND it is not working properly on other files. Please fix this. PLEASE.
And my specs are the same as Gary; iMac 27 inch Late 2009, Yosemite 10.10.1. Is ANYONE else having this issue with a different Mac?

  • Java Applet not loading

I am running an FTP server "Rumpus" and generally it works very well.
It does FTP and FTP via HTTP. We use it as an internal FTP server within our company.
However, there is a drag and drop feature that has stopped working on most clients that are connecting using Firefox and Safari.
The problem seems to be that the drag and drop function is a Java applet that requires the client to accept a digital signature, and on almost all machines the window prompting users to accept the certificate/signature never pops up.
The drag and drop feature works on a Windows 2003 server box, and one Mac. The other 35 macs we run all fail to load the applet. The clients connecting are a mix of 10.5.8 and 10.6.3 machines. There is no proxy server, all system updates have been done. Occasionally if I run "cocktail" and clean caches it might work once before crashing Safari or Firefox. I tried Firebug in Firefox but it does not catch anything, no messages in Console either. Under the Java preferences pane, what versions of Java need to be turned on? Any history of other things that might conflict with Java? Any suggestions...

Make sure the Java version selected is current:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3489
Mac OS X has its own built-in FTP server, which is documented here:
    http://www.dummies.com/how-to/computers-software/macs-os-x/Mac-OS-X-Snow-Leopard .html?sort=POPULAR&page=3
And Leopard has one as well:
    http://www.ehow.com/how4674062set-server-mac-os-leopard.html
Finally, if your problem is connecting to another FTP server, SFTP is well done by Fugu for the Mac:
    http://rsug.itd.umich.edu/software/fugu/
And regular passive ftp is easy with the light mode of
    http://www.rbrowser.com/ 's RBrowser.
Both work well with Leopard & Snow Leopard.
Java is great when it works, but it can get really bogged down if it is a Java client on a PC that requires ActiveX PC plugins. While any Intel Mac can run Windows to act on ActiveX, and possibly WINE, ActiveX based Java is very insecure. I recommend steering away from non-Mac based Java apps wherever possible.

It's unclear if the problems discussed happen after OJC compiles, or Javac compiles, or both. We have uncovered a bug in the compilation of jspx files using OJC. There is a chance that this bug fix will fix the problems mentioned. Email me at keimpe.bronkhorst AT oracle.com if you want to try out a patched OJC. This is not an OJVM fix, so if you compile with Javac, I can't help you at this time.

  • Using Labview with Java Applets

I want to use LabView instruments in my Java Applets. Is it possible to call virtual instruments from applets?

    Gaurav,
Yes, it is possible, but it might be easier if you use Remote Panel (LabVIEW 6.1) or an ActiveX component (Application Builder). To have Java and LabVIEW communicate with your applet, I can only suggest using the Application Builder to build your VIs into a DLL and then use the JNI to talk to this DLL. This may work fine outside of a browser, but I don't know if it will work inside a browser or not because each user will need the DLL. The best way to do it would be to have the Applet redirect the user to a Remote Panel web page where they can control the VI from there.

  • How to use UI Element "AbstractApplet" to embedd java applet in WDA

    Hello,
I want to embedd a java applet in a WebDynpro ABAP application and I've found the following statement on SAP online help:
The Active Control Framework (ACF) enables the development of applets or ActiveX-based controls that can be embedded in Web Dynpro ABAP.
    Link:[AbstractApplet|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nwpi71/helpdata/en/47/b915bc878a2d67e10000000a42189c/frameset.htm]
Is there any further help, how to use this (abstract) UI Element to integrate a given java applet?
    Kind Regards,
    Guido

    Hi,
As per the link you gave,
In the View layout, You can use the UI elements like - AcfExecute and AcfUpDownload. For upload and download the things.
Try to use these UI elements and get the reference of the Abrstact APplet class and use the methods inside it.

  • How can I enable java applet plug-in and Web Start applications via terminal?

Since the last Java update to Snow Leopard, I have found that the system periodically disables the Java applet plug-in after a period of disuse.  I know I can go to /Applications/Utilities/Java Preferences and just click to re-enable Java.  But I want to write a script which will do this periodically for a couple hundred Mac users where I work.
My question is - how can I reenable the Java applet plug-in and web start applications via Terminal command?  Is this possible?  Is there a plist file that can be modified, etc.?
    Bob Reed

It is my understanding that Apple's most recent Java update automatically disables Java after a certain period of time that it hasn't been used.  We don't want users to have to keep re-enabling it.  So we wanted to find a way to do this via script either run by a Casper JSS server or stored locally on each workstation.   With the guidance provided by Mark Jalbert above and some text from a script written by Rich Trouton, I was able to make a script (with some minor changes) and a launch agent to re-run the script upon login.  So the preference is always enabled.
For your reference, the script content is:
    #!/bin/sh
    # DYNAMICALLY SET THE UUID FOR THE BYHOST FILE NAMING
    if [[ `ioreg -rd1 -c IOPlatformExpertDevice | grep -i "UUID" | cut -c27-50` == "00000000-0000-1000-8000-" ]]; then

  • General doubt about devices and java applets

I have one general doubt abt devices.
Do all devices come with an SDK so that any language can interact with them?.
Whats does it mean if i say that i need to build a CAB file for the devices
and use them in my html object tag.
Can programming languages like java(applets) or asp interact with devices
once if we specify the classid and the cab file location(codebase)

Let me make it more clear
What i need is if we r using an ActiveX Component then we pack the .ocx and inf file into a cab file and give the location of the CAb file in the codebase attribute of object tag.
When the browser renders the page, it will look into the classid attribute of object tag to see whether there is an entry in registry if not it will go to the location specified in the codebase and get it registered locally.
As you know ActiveX works on windows.
I want to implement the same thing in a platform independent way.
    So i chose java applets.
Now i don't know what to do in this codebase part.
i need to install the device driver files and all from the server once a person view the web page.
when we use activex the classid field represents the device's entry but when we use applets thats the version of java being installed.
Can any one suggest an idea to move.
