NAC Port Control Method : MAC or Linkup ?

Hi,
We are running OOB Virtual-GW and I'm wondering what control method you people are using ? MAC notification or Link-Up notification ?
Our Cisco engineer told us to use MAC-Notif but I would like to have your thought about this ...
Right now we are using Link-Up and we are experiencing problems... especially with the delay being too long before port is switch back to Auth VLAN...

You can do it manually, but it is much simpler if you use a tool such as Back To My Mac, LogMeIn, or something like that. Those programs enable you to connect to your computer through your router without you having to adjust the router settings manually.

Answer to why I couldn't CONTROL a Mac

My upgrade to ARD 3 provided some insight as to why I could OBSERRVE but NOT CONTROL a particular Mac, which happened to be across two NAT routers -- even after doing port forwarding AND turning off the firewall.
The new ARD 3 told me that another incompatible VNC server was already running.
Well, I knew my client had experimented with "OSXvnc", but I didn't think ti was a running app. Not in the dock. Not a login item.
HOWEVER -- once we ran the app we saw it had its OWN startup prefs! Once we disabled those, BINGO! I could FINALLY control this Mac across the NAT routers.
ARD 2.2 gave an error, but the error was something like "you don't have permission to control this client". Even Apple Tech Support was stumped, sugesting re-installing the 2.2 client.
Of course, after upgrading the admin to ARD 3, I had to upgrade the client to ARD 3 client -- but I could do that with one menu command.
And then -- IT WORKED!

My transition to ARD 3 has been quite smooth (though I'm only controlling 3 Macs, 2 across NAT routers and one behind the router).
However, once everything was working at the client end (he's ehternet connected to an Airport Extreme which is connected to his cable modem) I got a wee bit too confident and turned his firewall BACK ON (in the Sharing panel). Once I closed my session I could no longer observe or control the client -- until he STOPPED THE FIREWALL again.
I looked at the firewall log (ipfw.log) and saw some odd ports being blocked (I've obscured my actual IP address here with xx.x.xx.xxx):
ifpw: 12190 Deny TCP xx.x.xx.xxx:50988 10.0.1.2:5900 in via en0
I'm not familiar with a 5 digit port, but in any case I don't think 50988 is a port which I would have thought to open.
What's interesing is that each time I attempted the connection, the cleint's log showed a DIFFERENT inbound port denied:

About the dac 1, but may apply to the dac 2 as well in some ways...
Here are more details:
1) The current version of iTunes (7.5) for OSX is very broken. Some older versions work properly, but 7.5 introduces truncation and DSP artifacts that can measure as high as –80dBFS. These levels are easily audible. There is no system configuration that will permit transparent playback from 44.1kHz sources with iTunes 7.5. Curiously, the only format that works properly in 7.5 is 24-bit/96kHz. This iTunes problem has nothing to do with USB communications, as the results are the same when using the built-in optical port on our PowerBooks. As a workaround, we suggest using the free VLC for Mac player. VLC works perfectly with all formats (provided OSX is set to match the sample rate of the files being played). We highly recommend the VLC player for OSX users, and strongly advise against using iTunes. We will attempt to identify which versions of iTunes work and which ones don't. But beware, iTunes updates itself without user intervention. One of our test computers "upgraded" itself to the dysfunctional iTunes 7.5.
2) OSX still does not have the ability to follow sample-rate changes. We consider this a nuisance for most users and a show-stopper for users who want to play a mixed list of 44.1kHz and 96kHz material. An OSX sample-rate mismatch will invoke the very-poor-quality sample-rate conversion that is built into OSX. The iTunes 7.5 bug seems to be locking on this sample-rate conversion at all sample rates other than 96kHz. Until this is fixed, OSX is not the operating system of choice for audio playback.

Bind an inputFile value to a data control methods parameter

Hello I am trying to create a InputFile (ADF Faces) which is linked to a data control method. The method reads a specified file and returns the content which is then displayed in table form.
 
I have a filereader Class with the following method:
public List<FileInQuestion> returnFileContents(String fileName)
 
I have created a data control based on this Class. From the JSF page, under the data control palette I can drag on may parameter 'FileName' (as input text) and my method (as command button) and finally the return type 'FileInQuestion' (as read only table). This all works fine and when I type a filename in and hit the button it displays the contents in a table.
 
Now the problem is that I want to base the input parameter on the value of the InputFile component. But when I drag and drop the 'fileName' parameter onto the canvas, it doesn't give me the option to create as an input file!
 
Please could someone tell me how I manually link (bind) the inputFile component to the 'fileName' parameter?

Thanks Frank but I need to get at the text value returned from the inputfile component. I did what you said with the following results:
 
I started with a inputtext field, command button and read only table. When I entered a value (in this case 'C:\data\contacts.txt' ) into the inputtext field and hit the command button the table displayed the expected results (for logic please see my 1st post).
 
I then convert the inputtext component to a inputfile component in the way you suggested. I now rerun the application, browse to the same file and hit the command button, and then nothing!! no results.
 
I'm I missing something here?

Period Control Method 01 and 03 Mid Month Convention

Hi All,
I am trying to create two different depreciation keys.
One is with Period rule 01 i.e Pro rata at period start date. Example. If I create an asset any time during the month, the ordinary start depreciation should start at the beginning of the month.
Secondly another deprecation key with period rule 03 i.e. prorata at mid period. Meaning that the ordinary start deprecation date should be from 15 of the month.
I activate the " Use of Half Months in the Company Code" then the deprecation key with prorata at period start date is behaving like pro rata at mid period.
Example:
I created an asset that was capitalized 5/18. For book depreciation the start date should be 5/1 and for tax it should be 5/15. Both of the areas are showing 5/15. have i missed something?

1. In transaction OAVS define a new Per control (Z1).
2. In transaction OAVH create the following: My fiscal year is from Aug-July
3. Update transaction AFAMP, create a new period control method and assign it Z1/Z1/Z1/Z1
4. Finally update the period control in the book depreciation key AFAMP.

I would guess that the HDMI port on your mac is for output only - no input, and that's what your'e attempting to do when you attach the mac to your xbox. I looked in Mactracker and it lists the HDMI port as video output for both the 13" Retina MacBook Pro and the 15" Retina MacBook Pro (your post didn't say which one you have), so looks like that is the issue..

The with Back to my Mac service on you see your mac in the Shared column, hit Share Screen & your good - on ARD I don't see my remote Mac listed anywhere in that program.

ARD, to the best of my knowledge, does not work via Back To My Mac. Certainly it's not an direct or obvious feature, though I can't say that there might not be a workaround I've not heard of.

Look up "screen sharing" in help
You can control your mini (which I am assuming you are hooking to your TV) complete from your iMac.

First, what you said is contradictory. You say "can't get a video signal", then say"the Mac wallpaper is broadcast, the mouse pointer is visible". "No video signal" means an absolutely black,blank screen. It sounds like you have plenty of signal.
I am supposing what you are seeing is actually a blank desktop, which is to be expected if your settings are such that you are extending the desktop, instead of mirroring it.
Within the preference panes is a setting that allows you to change this. Open System Preferences, click Displays, and then click Arrangement. You will see that you are extending the desktop. Change that setting.

You're getting the message because you're exceeding the available current, probably as a result of bus-powered drives. The power sources for hubs are rather small. Try using drives with their own power supplies.

Let the battery fully darain. After charging for an least an hour try a reset and restore. Use Recovery mode if necessary.
