NAC - Slow download of Certification Requirements

We originally posted files (Antivirus, Patches, SPs) in the requirements section but when files got too big it was not feasible.
So we developed a web server solely to serve the certification zip files for students to meet the requirements.
After they authenticate to the agent, they are IN-BAND in the TEMPORARY Role. At this point they try and download the cert file from a link off the agent and it is so slow that IE/Firefox acts like it is Not Responding.
If I open up the Role Filters to give access to that same webserver in the UNAUTHENTICATED Role (before they login to the agent) the file downloads fine.
We are in testing phase so we do not have many users hitting the system.
Why is this so slow? How else could we serve the files while the students are logged into the agent?

Was able to narrow this down further.
Given a requirement for Vista SP1, if the Requirement is a link directly to the file, it will fail (or download at 2k/sec):
http://cert/cert/vistasp1.zip
If the requirement is a link to an HTML file that contains the same link above, the user downloads the HTML file to the desktop, clicks on the link and it will succeed and download normally.
ODD!! Any ideas?

  • More Than One Computer Trying to Access Web = Very Slow Download Speeds?

We have Verizon DSL with a basic Westell modem, which supposedly is only a modem with no router capabilities. We have an Airport Extreme Snow Base Station that acts as a WDS Main, with one other AEB Snow as a WDS Remote. All computers have unique ip addresses in the 10.0.1.X range as provided by the WDS Main's DHCP.
When only one computer connects to the internet to download web pages, software updates, etc., there seems to be no problem at all. When I do a speed check I get results that seem to be in the correct range, and it doesn't matter which computer I use for the test.
However, if we try to access the internet with more than one computer at the same time, everything slows to a crawl. Such as, if one computer is downloading software updates, the other CPUs have super slow web page downloads, slow to the point of connection time-outs at times. Or if two of the computers are simply trying to download web pages at the same time, one or the other has super slow downloads.
I feel like there is some kind of routing problem with the Base Station but for the life of me I cannot figure it out.
What could the problem be? Where could it originate, and what, if any, advice could someone give me to help trace the problem?
    Thanks in advance.

... the one computer I am looking at right now shows DNS servers as 10.0.1.1, which is the internal ip address of the AEB. Could this be part of the problem?
That is normal and shouldn't cause a problem. Essentially it tells the computer to ask the snow AirPort base station (ABS) for DNS information. The ABS will then provide the DNS information which it currently received from the ISP.
Would it help if I manually entered the DNS numbers that appear on the AEB on each machine's Network Preferences?
Probably not. A busy DNS server or faulty DNS info won't affect download speeds. That only affects browsing since that requires the computer to convert human readable addresses to numbers that the computer can use.
Remember that the snow ABS only operates at 802.11b (11 Mbps) speeds. Then when you use WDS it cuts your available wireless bandwidth in half.

  • Any way to avoid Slow download of apps on ipad2

Really sick of this slow download of apps and YouTube streaming on iPad 2. It's blazing fast on my android phone at least 50 times faster with same connections.

    Hello skatrdude19,
    Welcome to the Discussions Boards,
While there is no way to just have the icons fill the empty spaces, you do have a reset option that will accomplish it.
Go to Settings > General > Reset.
You'll see the option to Reset Home Screen Layout.
Resetting it will fill in those empty spaces, but the arrangement of the resulting icons may require some manual re-arranging to get the icons to the pages you want, and it's not a reversible reset. Once you reset the Home Page layout, you will have to re-arrange icons manually.
    Hope that helps,
    Charles H.

  • Extreamly slow downloads

Since the fire fox 7 upgrade I have experienced extremely slow download speeds. I am talking 30kbs per second, with an occasional drop to 940 bps. And many time out errors due to the slow speeds. It took me 6 hours to get a 14meg video driver update.
I was getting some ocsp security certificate errors, but I fixed that by checking my systems time clock which was way off.
I live at a veterans home, which requires us to go thru a portal to be able to access the internet. THAT portal, may be the cause of our extreme slow internet. I don't know.

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • Slow download on apple tv

slow downloads on apple tv.  Taking up to 7 hours. How do I fix or is it an Apple tv problem??

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
The first thing to check would be your internet download speed, you can do this atwww.speedtest.net.
1080p HD movies require a recommended speed of 8 Mbps, 720p HD movies require a recommended speed of 6 Mbps, while SD movies require a recommended speed of 2.5 Mbps.

  • Slow downloading apps and games from store on lumi...

Slow downloading apps and games from store. sometimes it say "attention required" and need to retry again. other browsing or youtube is enough fast, only problem on store. using Wi-fi 5-20 Mbps internet speed

Hi, munnaeebd. Does it only happen when downloading or even updating apps & games? Make sure that your Microsoft account is properly synced and the date+time is correct. Are you connected to a public Wi-Fi? Try connecting to your home router or the other way around, and if there's any changes. We'd appreciate if you keep us posted on the outcome.

  • IMac runs slow intermittently; occasional freezes require hard restart.

Recently, my iMac (27", mid-2010, OS X 10.9.3) has begun intermittently running very slow, with occasional freezes requiring hard restarts. I've been keeping activity monitor open and notice that multiple Google Chrome Helpers open (4-5 of them) with each using 98%+ of CPU capacity. Not sure if they relate to the slow response time. They are sometimes open in the activity monitor, but response times on the iMac are normal. Then, suddenly, the iMac slows to a crawl, with 15-45 second beach balls, sometimes followed by complete freeze and crash.
Any suggestions for diagnosis and trouble-shooting?

  • My Macbook Pro 13 running 10.8.4 has a slow download on safari.

Hello, I have a Macbook Pro 13 running mountain lion 10.8.4 has a very slow download on safari and i don't know why it is like this. Any help with this please.

1.Download speed depends on the Internet Service Provider.
2.Power off the router. Wait awhile. Power it back on. Wait until all the lights are lit up properly.
       It will take a while.
       Restart the computer.
    3.Start up in Safe Mode
       http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11212
    4.Reset Safari.
Click Safari in the menu bar.
From the drop down select "Reset Safari".
Uncheck the box next to  " Remove saved names and passwords".
      Click "Reset".
    5.Empty Caches
      Safari > Preference > Advanced
Checkmark the box for "Show Develop menu in menu bar".
Develop menu will appear in the Safari menu bar.
Click Develop and select "Empty Caches" from the dropdown.

how do a get a refund on a ridiculously slow downloading rented movie for my apple tv dispite a >5mb/sec down load speed? my first experience with appletv movie rental. no good. rented at 4:30pm. still waiting for standard def movie to finish at 8:10pm. Not good enough.

Thanks for the pointers folks. Yeah, 1.5GB is pretty poor isn't it? There are other suppliers, but you have to get a their phone line installed to access the internet so it's an £85 setup fee plus a day off work for a guy to come round and drill a hole in your wall before you even get to the monthly costs.
Don't get me wrong though - I'm certainly not an Apple basher, but am equally frustrated with both them and the ISP.
Virgin Media spend all kinds of money advertising their broadband as the fastest in the UK, but don't tell you (up front anyway) that you'll be cut off if you actually try and use it.
Apple on the other hand carry on with their 'it just works' mantra, but with Apple TV this only applies if you meet certain criteria (again, not mentioned up front).
I guess it aint a biggie, as i was gifted my Apple TV, and love all the other stuff it does, but from the number of posts on this forum can see that there's a lot of angry customers out there who want explanations as to why they're having similar problems to me.
Will be very interesting to see if Apple release any kind of software update that turns the flash drive from a buffer to permanent storage, to at least ease some of the pain...

  • How many thousands of Apple TV users have to scream their complaints before Apple will respond to the fury over the impossibly slow download speeds of movies bought through iTunes??????

How many thousands of Apple TV users have to scream their complaints before Apple will respond to the fury over the impossibly slow download speeds of movies bought through iTunes?

As jules says, your rate (currently at least) may be slow.
If it used to be good I wonder is your ISP is slowing ('throttling') your speed after you've used so many GB of a quota each day or month - check what they think you should be getting as a download speed.
While Apple's servers do occasionally play up, it's generally the ISP being slow not Apple.
If you're using Google's DNS servers that has caused issues for some.
Recommended speeds for near instant playback:
    SD         2.5Mbps
    720p      6 Mbps
    1080p    8 Mbps
Is your speed test from somewhere like speedtest.net?
It might be helpful to post Mbps to ensure we/you are not confusing speeds by using different units to those measured.

  • Sigh slow download speeds iPad

Is anyone having problems with slower download speeds on iPads and if so  any suggestions to fix? Also some videos on my laptop, ex: like twitter mobile uploads I'm trying to view, are slow. Come to think of it, some youtube things slow to download on laptop, too, so not the sites' faults..  Is it Verizon's?  Why is the download speed erratic to non-exisitent on certain videos with Fios?

The first thing that needs to be checked first is the FiOS connection. Go to http://measurementlab.net/measurement-lab-tools#tool1 and perform a speed test using a computer connected via Ethernet and see if the results match what you should be getting on your connection. Additionally on the iPad, visit testmy.net and perform their download speed test. If you have any additional PCs in the home that can use Wireless, perform a speed test over Wireless using the Measurement Lab address.

  • Very Slow Download Speed

    Hi,
I am experiencing very slow downloading speeds, when I am just normally downloading something in Safari, or downloading a torrent with upto 100 seeders.
The maximum download speed I have seen on my computer is 80kb/s, which is painfully slow for downloading the Adobe trials, when they reach about 1gb.
I have a router, connected to 2 computers, and speedtest.net has told me that my download speed is 1mb/s.
It seems like download speeds are being restricted to 80kb/s, so is there any way to 'unlock' full potential downloading speeds?
    Any help much appreciated!

I think you're making the same mistake a lot of people make.
The maximum download speed I have seen on my computer is 80kb/s
Safari reports downloads in kiloBYTES per second, not kilobits, so that 80KB/s translates to about 640 kilobits per second.
downloading the Adobe trials, when they reach about 1gb
Really? 1 gigabit per second? I assume that's a typo.
speedtest.net has told me that my download speed is 1mb/s
therefore your downloads are progressing at about 64% of maximum. That sounds about right - you won't get maximum throughput for every download - it will vary based on server location, network load and more.

Do you ever visit a friend or realtive with a Mac who has faster internet? Maybe the local library has Macs on a fast line. If so, get a USB thumb drive and put this link on it from your computer:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
Then put this link on the drive:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1429
When you are at some place that has a Mac with a decent download speed. insert the thumb drive in that Mac and click on the first link ("DL1399") and direct the download to your thumb drive. Now do the same this with the second link.
The installer files will now be on the thumb drive and, when you get home, drag them from the thumb drive to your desktop. Install the Combo update first.
