Nal.db error

Hi,
I restarted my ZfD 4 (NW6.5) server today, and it isn't happy with the
nal.db database. There's plenty of space on the volume, so I'm not sure
what's bugging it.... any ideas?
Thanks,
Iain

I think I've fixed it... I copied the blank nal.db from the original install
CD, as suggested by TID 10092575.

• NAL launch error.

Hi there,
I am running Zenworks 3.2 and am having the following problem with NAL
launching on our Windows 2000 Terminal server. Whenever I log in on a
terminal session I get the error "Application Launcher Results from service:
Error loading NALUPDTE.DLL" and NAL fails to launch. The strange thing is if
I sit on the console NAL runs fine. Also we do not get the same problem with
our Windows 2003 servers.
Does anyone know what the problem is here and how I can go about fixing it.
Cheers.
Phill.

Let me know if that does not work.

• NAL application error (id=-337)

Hi,
I try to distribute some applications (i.e. patches for WinXP, AcrobatReader6 etc.).
On many workstations the applications are running without problems.
But on some workstations I get an error message:
Could not get needed resources for application [***] to be launched (id=-337)
Problem: Unable to connect to server [***]
I searched in the KB whitout success.
Can someone help me?

Build a test object that runs CMD.EXE as an Unsecure System User.
Run this object on a problem machine.
From the CMD prompt that this app opens run "start \\SERVER\VOL\DIR" for the UNC patch to
the install source.
I suspect this will give you an error.
If an error occurs, then SYSTEM app, which get their network FileAccess rights from the
WSOBJECT, do not have proper rights.
In your case, I would try "Unreg32",Delete the WSObject in the NDS, followed by WSREG32 to
reimport the WSOBJECT.
Some type of corruption may have occurred.
I've seen this happen on occassion with ZFD3.x.
(Note: Make sure you are using UNC and not mapped drives as mapped drives will not work
easily with XP and System Apps.)

• ZESM Client XP3 Zenworks 7 NAL

We've experiencing issues since deployment of the ZESM client onto a clean
set of Windows XP Pro SP3 HP xw4600 into a non-domain environment with ZESM
in standalone mode.
The workstations have Client32 4.91 SP5 and ZenWorks Agent 7.0.1.0. We have
two ZESM polices, one with no CD, USB access and one with CD and USB access.
On both of the policies the firewall is set to all ports open.
When a user logins to a machine one of the following can happen.
1) During the stage that NALWIN launches, applications start to deploy as
set because of force run, however during this NAL will error with
Could not configure workstation for application [Novell eDirectory
Application Object full context] (id=34822) Problem: Unable to access needed
network resource [App:INI Settings]. (D0:E)
Or other errors relating to accessing eDirectory attributes. At this point
the workstation is now broken, if a user tries to refesh NAL then all the
icons will disappear.
2) On the odd time, the login script will error with drive mappings and the
error code:
3) The workstations suffers a "Windows - Delayed Write Failed", Windows was
unable to save all the data for the file
C:\............................................... ................. The data
has been lost. This error may be caused by a failure of your computer
hardware or network connection. Please try to save this file elsewhere.
This fault intermittent but happening during the day across the batch of 24
workstations.
The .sen policies are delivered via NAL, it appears to be linked to a change
of policy but this is not always the case. It also looks like a timing
issue/issue with ZESM blocking network for a few sec.
On machines which lose their apps, you can still access the network shares,
and in Novell Connections it still shows the attached servers.
We have a Service Request: 10496360551 with Novell, but just wondering if
anyone has seen this issue or had any ideas. This is service affecting.
On the SR it has our .sen and some debugging information from ZESM and NAL.

Adam

Adam,
I haven't used the ZESM client jointly with the ZDM7 agent. However, I have some comments:
- Are you using the latest IR6 ZESM client?
- Why are you deploying two policies to the endpoints? Only one policy can be applied to a given client at a time. No merge or inheritance can happen. You can, however, define multiple locations with multiple Storage Controls on it.
- Have you tried using the ZSC client in a managed (ZESM server) scenario?
I may recommend you to also post this question to the ZDM7 support forum (if not already done), since the error messages you posted are more related to NAL/ZDM than to ZESM. Maybe someone can help you a bit more on this issue.
Cheers,
Daniel

• Error 501b Loadlibrary msvcrt.dll failed

We have Netware 5.1, Zenworks 3 and a mixture of Win2k and Win98
workstations.
When running NAL at one of our sites it comes up with the following error
which has to be OK'd before it will load the NAL.
"Error 501b Loadlibrary msvcrt.dll failed"
The user has read and file scan rights to sys:public
The server has msvcrt.dll version 5.0.0.7022
and the PC has msvcrt.dll version 6.1.9844.0
Does anyone know how to get rid of the error message?
(Some of the files in the public directory were missing, so I have copied
in nal*.* and zen*.* Does it need anything else?)
Thanks

DLLs are normally backwards compatible.
Therefore I would try renaming the version in PUBLIC and replacing it with
the newer version from the PC.
Sounds like perhaps an older one if being used instead of the newer one.

• Adding Distribution Point - 2147942405: Access is denied.

I'm trying to add a Distribution Point on a new site server but I'm getting the error: 2147942405: Access is denied. in the component manager.
I have the site server's computer account in the administrators group on the remote DP and I have restarted the server since doing so.
The problem is definitely not network / firewall related because if I choose to use my own crednetials to install the role it goes through OK (although this then causes other errors!)
Any ideas why I am getting access denied error?
Thanks

I would like to write this file on the windows serevr from the application serevr during the run of the program itself automatically. Donna, I wouldn't worry that Rasman (the Remote Access Connection Manager service) takes 17 seconds to shut down. And certainly the 0.095 seconds taken by the Usbehci.sys driver is inconsequential.
My Event Viewer is filled with stuff like this. Most users don't know to look here. Best to ignore it.
Pay more attention to what's in the Application and System logs under Windows Logs.
Hope I sent the right info this time.
In the future, leave out the stuff beginning with the line..

• Failed to set security on SQL Server registry key. Error: 2

Hi,
I have a Primary site (mixed mode) running SCCM 2007 SP1 for many months now with no issues.
This site is made up of two Win 2008 sp2 servers sharing the SCCM roles:-
SCCM01 - Site server, DP, RP, PXE and SQL2005 hosting the SCCM database
SCCM02 – SUP, MP, FSP, SLP
The SQL2005 on SCCM01 is running under a domain service account called
domain\service_sccm which is also a sysadmin in SQL as is the SCCM02 server.
In an effort to resolve the isse I have made this account a Domain Admin.
I have also used this account to log onto SEC01 to run the Secondary Site installation and to be the SQL Service account.
I'm now trying to add a Secondary Site on a Domain Controller called SEC01 (also Win2008 sp2) and on the same LAN as the SCCM01/02.
This is where I get problems.
I run the installation locally on the Sec Site server (DC) as a Domain Admin and the installation completes OK (all green ticks),
the ComponentSetup.log and Pre-Reqs are all good as well however when I check the ConfigMgrSetup.log I see the below -
Failed to set security on SQL Server registry key. Error: 2.
<11-09-2010 22:46:59> SMS Setup full version is 4.00.6221.1000

Adding the PMP role to SEC01 also fails to install and no MPSetup or MPControl logs are created.
WebDav and win2008 roles, features all added and server fully patched.
Despooler.log on SCCM01 seems good and passing keys.
Tried installing to default path and to shortened path such as C:\SCCM
The new secondary site is listed in the console and an address can be added for the Secondary Site

SQL 2005
This has the account logged in during installation as a sysadmin
SCCM02 is also sysadmin
The fundamental issue appears to be that the SEC01$ server account is not being added to SQL Logins (and therefore SCCM database Roles)
therefore the installation cannot complete.
I have tried to manually add the SEC01 account to SQL Logins before installation of Sec Site but this did not work.
Not sure if the fact that SEC01 is a DC may be a factor.
Appreciate any help if anyone has seen this before or can suggest a resolution.
Thanks

After a lot of digging around and head scratching I eventually found the resolution.
The original thread title Error turned out to be a bit of a red herring in that my failure to deploy Sec Sites came down to two separate issues seemingly unrelated to the error message of the thread title.
The first part of the resolution was to manually create the SQL Server accounts for the Sec Site Servers and assign them to the smsdbrole_MP DB role to
let the SQL side of the SCCM install complete a s these were not being created automatically.
This then left the fact that that the installation of the Sec Site completed successfully according to the install logs in C:\ however the DP and MP would
never install.
The big clue was eventually contained in the mpfdm.log errors relating to
**ERROR: Cannot find path for destination inbox SMS_AMT_PROXY_COMPONENT on server REGISTRY SMS_MP_FILE_DISPATCH_MANAGER
and
**ERROR: Cannot find path for destination inbox Asset Intelligence KB Manager on server REGISTRY SMS_MP_FILE_DISPATCH_MANAGER
Thankfully the errors led me to these two blogs:
http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/scassells/archive/2009/07/20/error-cannot-find-path-for-destination-inbox-sms-amt-proxy-component-on-server-registry.aspx
and
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/configmgrsetup/thread/5fcc53d4-8629-4b34-9eaa-6cb020eedc13/
As it turned out the SCCM installation registry and folder creation does not complete and I had to manually enter the reg settings as detailed in the
links above to complete the installation. Once I did as described everything worked a treat – all my MPs and DPs are 100% now.
Solutions
Add the following reg keys to each of your effected secondary sites.
Inbox Fix
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SMS\MPFDM\Inboxes]
"Asset Intelligence KB Manager"="E:\\Program Files\\Microsoft Configuration Manager\\inboxes\\AIKbMgr.box"
"SMS_AMT_PROXY_COMPONENT"="E:\\Program Files\\Microsoft Configuration Manager\\inboxes\\amtproxy.box"
Asset Intelligence fix:
Note: you will need to identify the next largest key value.
In my example it was key 49
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SMS\Inbox Source\Inbox Definitions\49]
"Inbox Name"="Asset Intelligence KB Manager"

• Error 1603 in deploying Office 2003 by creating an application object using its MSI package!

Hello,
I got the error of 1603 when I ran Office 2003 MSI package through NAL. I
have no idea how to resolve this problem. Even though I enabled logging in
Office 2003 installation, I still could not figure out what went wrong and
what caused the error.
I have used Snapshot to create an application object for a long time with
little problem. However, I could not successfully deploy any MSI package
created by an application object. I knew ZenWork Managing Application has
the feature, but I don't know how to make it work in our environment.
Do I have to know more about Microsoft Window Installer ?
Appreciate your comments and experience in advance
Thanks

Yes, understanding MSI helps. FWIW I have deployed 2003 this way.

• NAL apps not showing in citrix unless an admin is logged in

We have got 3 citrix server publishing a desktop. They are using Metaframe XPe feture release 3 sp4 on win2k.
The problem we are having is that unless an admin is loged onto each server the users don't get NAL icons. We use the NALEXPLD to deliver the apps. If I logon to a server as a user and manualy run NALEXPLD nothing hapends. There are no errors. As soon as an admin is loged onto that server the user can run nalexpld and the icons are there.
This is not a big problem but it meas leaving an admin loged in all the time on every server. It also means tha twe can't schedual reboots of the servers as when users connect they don't get icons untill an admin is loged in.

• Unknown error occurred for application (application name) (id=5 [5], 5[5])

Environment: ZFD4
Windows OS: 2000 Professional Sp4
Novell Client: Tried both: 4.83SP2 and 4.91SP3
Zenworks Server: NW51 SP6
I successfully created a NAL object for an application called Delphi from
a company called NewMarket. The Application utilizes an SQL database and
runs off a Windows 2000 server. We already have one NAL object for this
application which works fine. The new object I created is for a newer
version of this appliction.
I have compared all the settings, and parameters of the new object with
the old one and all are in identical. I am not entirely sure of every
registry or INI entry though.
On trying to deploy the object, the files and registry entries of the
application seem to get copied to a point from what I can see but then it
always ends up with this error: " Unknown error occurred for application
DelphiMV92.Woodbine.OJC (id=5 [5], 5[5]).
I did a search for this error off Novell's knowledge base but came up
empty.
Any thoughts about what could be the problem?
Will greatly appreciate any help with this.
Thanks very much
Kenneth

• I keep getting network error on Facebook on my iPad

My Facebook was working fine on my Wi Fi but in the last week I keep getting network error when trying to logon to Facebook from my iPad & iphone 5s. I have time warner road runner digital cable. How do I fix it?

Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are drooping internet connection)
• Launch Settings app
• Tap on Wi-Fi
• Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
• In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.
