Name-service-cache (nscd) and LDAP

We are running Solaris 10u6 with the latest patches and have an issue with nscd. Periodically nscd will stop authenticating ssh sessions and requires restart to allow people to login. Our /etc/nsswitch.conf passwd line is "passwd: files ldap". Our LDAP back end is Sun Directory Server EE 6.3. Restarting nscd with svcadm restart name-service-cache clears the issue.
Has anyone else seen this behavior?

Hi
I raised this with SUN and they did state it may be a bug by the symptoms of the problem I gave. They have also suggested installing the patch you have mentioned. When we hit the problem again I will be generated a core dump of the nscd process so that sun can do further analysis. If I get anything inetersting back I shall post it up. But its 99% looking like the bug and that patch 141030 will be required.
Thanks

  • Solaris Name Service Cache and Directory Proxy Problem

    We have some Solaris 10 clients ldapcliented to a Directory Proxy Server. After 15 minutes, the Solaris name service cache will fail to communicate to the proxy instance and the proxy instance's readconnectionsrefused attribute will start incrementing.
    At first it seemed we would need to increase the worker-threads and num-bind-limit, but those do not fix the problem.
    At the same time the name-service-cache starts failing, I am still able to query and search the proxy. I have set up a Jmeter test which continues to run and they never fail.
    It seems very consistent that the problem with the name-service-cache occurs every 15 minutes and I am able to reproduce this at the client's site and in my lab. Restarting either the proxy or the name-service-cache clears the problem.
    Has anyone else seen this problem?

  • Issue with NSCD and LDAP

    Hi folks,
    I have a working LDAP configuration on my Arch system as a client after following these directions.
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/LD … ient_Setup
    Generally speaking, everything works. However, I've noticed that if my system is idle for a while (say, overnight) I am unable to connect to the LDAP server for authentication unless I restart nslcd. I'm guessing it's something with my network. As a stop-gap solution, I tried enabling NSCD (as suggested by the Wiki page above) to do caching so I could still log in even if I cannot access the LDAP server.
    NSCD starts; however, I seem to be getting several errors on startup
    # systemctl status nscd
    cannot stat() file `/etc/netgroup': No such file or directory
    cannot create /var/db/nscd/passwd; no persistent database used
    cannot create /var/db/nscd/group; no persistent database used
    cannot create /var/db/nscd/hosts; no persistent database used
    cannot create /var/db/nscd/services; no persistent database used
    cannot create /var/db/nscd/netgroup; no persistent database used
    For the first error, it sounds like I need to add a netgroup file (I'll look that up). For the others, my *guess* is that it's a permission issue with nscd running as a user  without permission to write to /var/db; however, I checked my nscd.conf file (unmodified) and there's no server-user directive--according to the man page, this means the server should be running as root.
    Google searches for these errors turned up very old bugs; wondering if anyone else has run into this and if I've missed something in configuring nscd. The Wiki doesn't seem to have an entry for it that I was able turn up via the search.
    Thanks,
    Brian

    I have been considering using nscd in this way but haven't had time to test it.  The part that is confusing me is how a ldap user would be able to login at all if the server is not available:
    man 8 nscd wrote:
    Nscd provides caching for accesses of the passwd(5), group(5), and hosts(5) databases through standard libc interfaces, such as getpwnam(3), getpwuid(3), getgrnam(3), getgrgid(3), gethostbyname(3), and others.
    There  are two caches for each database: a positive one for items found, and a negative one for items not found.  Each cache has a separate TTL (time-to-live) period for its data.
    Note that the shadow file is specifically not cached.  getspnam(3) calls remain uncached as a result.
    I don't see how a user could login without their password being cached locally, which it isn't by design.  So, they can't authenticate.

  • Configure TNS Name Service

    How configure TNS Name Service in Server and Client?
    Thanks.

    On the server you may not need that, on the client.... neither...
    On the server you need the listener (which you should already have), on the client you can use the easy connect method, which does not require any configuration :
    sqlplus username/password@<servername or IP address>:<port>/<sid>
    for example
    sqlplus scott/[email protected]:1521/orcl
    the port is not mandatory if it's 1521.
    Of course you can configure TNS aliases within tnsnames.ora, both on client and server, here an example :
    XE =
      (DESCRIPTION =
        (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = localhost)(PORT = 1521))
        (CONNECT_DATA =
          (SERVICE_NAME = XE)
      )See http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/network.102/b14212/naming.htm#i507143

    I want to photo stream pix from my iMac to apple tv. When I try to enter the iCloud account name and password, the systems tells me that terms of service have changed and won't let me proceed. What's that about?

    You need to reset the password for the "old" account, and then use that to turn off iCloud.  Then you will be able to sign in with your new ID.
    You can reset your password at iForgot.apple.com.
    If you don't know the answers to the security questions, you will need to start there.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5312
    -If you established a rescue email address, there will be a link on the "Passwords & Security" page of id.apple.com.  Clicking the link will send the reset to your rescue email address (NOTE:  This is not the same address as your Apple ID email)
    -If there is no link on the page, then you didn't establish a rescue email address.  Contact AppleCare at 800.694.7466 (If you are in the US), and ask for account security.  You will need to answer some questions to verify your identity, AND you will need access to a computer to generate a temporary support pin.

  • What Is Presentation Services Cache In Fact?

    I have searched on this forum and on BI blogs but don't understand the concept of a presentation services cache clearly.
    At first let tell what I need.
    I have a dashboard page with prompts and report. From this report I navigate to another dashboard page with reports and several promts that have to be initialized with values from previous dashboard page. The navigation is based on PortalPageNav() function.
    I created table in DB, PL/SQL function , through EVALUATE I passed parameters to PL/SQL function and wrote its into DB table.
    Then I added this table in RPD and on Presentation Layer.
    In Answers I get correct results.
    Then I initialize the default values of prompts on a second dashboard page through 'SQL Results' and type something like this:
    SELECT "Parameters"."Value" FROM "BO" WHERE "Parameters"."Name"='Param1'
    1. I login and go to first dashboard page, change prompts, run report then navigate to second dashboard (it opens in new window). All prompts initialize correctly.
    2. I open window with first dashboard page change prompts, run report then navigate to second dashboard again. And I see the previous values in prompts. But in a DB table I see new values.
    There 2 ways for deciding this problem
    1. By clearing cursor cache:
    answers - administration- manage session - close all cursors
    or
    answers - administration- manage session - choose appropriate cursor and close it
    2. By reloading second dashboard page
    All ways are not convenient or user friendly.
    BUT I NEED IN AUTOMATIC CLEARING OR NOT CACHING SOME PROMPTS!
    I cant't write in a user's guide - for correct work you have to login as Administrator and clear cursor cache every time after changing prompts on first dashboard page or reloading second dashboard page :)
    I became research this issue.
    1. BI Server Cache is turned off through NQSConfig.ini
    2. I began read a lot of info about Presentation Services Cache:
    1) John Minkjan blog - [http://obiee101.blogspot.com/2008/11/obiee-presentation-services-cache.html]
    I need no turn Presentation Services Cache or disable it.
    2) [http://businessdecisionsystems.com/blog/?p=122] this article give us info about storing log records but there is no info about clearing cursors.
    3) [http://hekatonkheires.blogspot.com/2010/02/obiee-10g-presentation-server-cache.html] good article about physical storing of presentation services cache but I didn't find any info on clearing some cursors
    4) Nico in a blog write [http://gerardnico.com/wiki/dat/obiee/html_cache#clear_the_presentation_server_cache_without_stopping_and_restarting_the_services] that Presentation Services Cache is a HTML cache but he don't say how clean the entries without clicking on 'Close All Cursors' button.
    5) In this topic presentation cache refresh in prompt the same problem and no answer :(
    6) The user10203008 in a topic To pass new session variable value to stored proc before running a report. has the same issue but all advices about BI Server Cache. He found solution but it is disable whole Presentation Services Cache. I need clear ONLY SOME CURSORS.
    So, I have a answer!
    DOES ANYBODY KNOW WHERE IS STORING DATA ABOUT CURSORS ON A PAGE ANSWERS - ADMINISTRATION - MANAGE SESSION ?
    May be somebody knows a developer of Siebel Analytics or may be he is on a forum and tell us how realized a clearing some cursors in a automatic mode?

    I found a solution.
    I decide to emulate a pressing button 'Refresh' at the end of a page. So I look at a html code of Dashboard page and found a corresponding javascript function. It is RefreshPage('saw.dll?Dashboard&PortalPath=<PortalPath>&Page=<PagePath>')So I trying to create a text box with HTML Markup option and enter RefreshPage on onload() function. But then I got a cycle: open dashboard page -> onload() -> RefreshPage() -> onload() -> RefreshPage() -> ...
    So I decide to find a code of this function. The function code is in %SAROOTDIR%\web\app\res\b_mozilla\dashboards\portalscript.js
    // force cache refresh
    function RefreshPage(sCmd)
       var viewStateDiv = document.getElementById("idViewStateDiv");
       if (viewStateDiv)
          sCmd += "&Action=RefreshAll";
          sCmd += "&ViewState=" + viewStateDiv.getAttribute("stateID");
          sCmd += "&StateAction=samePageState";
       window.location.replace(sCmd);
       return false;
    }We may see that for refreshing page the Action='RefreshAll' is used. So we need pass this Action.
    I wrote in a first post that I was using PortalPageNav() javascript function for navigation. So I created my custom CustomPortalPageNav() function which is based on original PortalPageNav() code with one new parameter 'sAction'. So I pass a value 'RefreshAll' through this parameter and it works!

  • How to config messaging 5.2 and ldap 5.2 with smtp auth?

    Hello.
    I want to config smtp auth for msg 5.2 and ldap 5.2.
    How to step of work.
    I config follow admin guide but it not work.
    Please help me and advice me.

    For your internal clients to be authenticated,
    replace "mustsaslserver" instead of "maysaslserver" in tcp_intranet channel on your imta.cnf file. Then all clients connecting from your internal IPs (listed on your mappings file) will be authenticated.
    Add the below two parameters for messenger express users to use the same system.
    configutil -o local.service.http.smtpauthuser -v "store admin user name"
    configutil -o local.service.http.smtpauthpassword -v "store admin password"
    All other external smtp connections (MX pointed) are not authenticated since they are directed to tcp_local channel.

  • Obtain cache hit and miss statistics

    Hi,
         I have a cache developed in-house, which implements the HashMap functionalities of get(key), put(key, object) etc, and in addition, maintains hit and miss counts. I'm trying to replace this cache with Coherence because eventually I wish to migrate to a distributed cache. It's essential, therefore, that I fit Coherence into my application in such a way that though I would currently be using Coherence's local cache functionality, later I should be able to use the distributed cache functionality without any changes to my code. Hence, I'm using CacheFactory to obtain a cache whose config I define in the coherence-config.xml file. Here's my problem: I notice that CacheFactory.getCache() returns an object that implements NamedCache. This interface does NOT support the maintenance of cache hit and miss counts. I need this functionality! How do I work around this?
         Thanks,
         Lakshmi.

    Hi Lakshmi,
         It would look something like this:
         // This example uses the default
             // coherence-cache-config.xml which maps all cache
             // names starting with 'local-' to a 'local-scheme'
             String sCacheName = "local-test";
             NamedCache cache = CacheFactory.getCache(sCacheName);
             CacheService service = cache.getCacheService();
             Map mapLocal = ((DefaultConfigurableCacheFactory.Manager) service.getBackingMapManager()).getBackingMap(sCacheName);
             if (mapLocal instanceof LocalCache)
                  LocalCache cacheLocal = (LocalCache) mapLocal;
                  out("Misses: " + cacheLocal.getCacheMisses());
                  }Hope this helps.

  • Oracle client 8.1.7 and ldap naming method

    Hello!
    I have forms 6 and oracle net 8.0.5 but this version does not support ldap naming method.... so anyone know version of oracle client for windows support which ldap? Maybe 8.1.7? I need to find 8.1.7 client instalation maybe some links?
    regards - mj

    The minimum version for LDAP naming is 8.1.6, but I don't think it will be possible to direct Forms 6 to use it, I think you'll find that it's tied into the 8.0 stack.
    If you want a centralised naming method for use with the 8.0 stack then it would have to be the old Oracle Names service, which was removed after version 9.2.

    for example the Administrators DN might look something like this:

    Hello, my name is Karan Taneja and i have been a loyal Apple customer.
    I have been using Apple since it introduced iphone 4 and have been upgrading/buying every new phone Apple introduces after that.
    I was always happy and surprized to see Apple doing so good to its customers.
    Unfortunately, i experienced some thing really unprofessional and different this time.
    It begun suddenly one day when i tried to charge my phone, the phone was on silent mode and as usual the phone vibrated when i kept it for charge.
    After a few seconds the phone vibrated twice or thrice again when i re-inserted the cable thinking it might be loose.
    It continued to charge well when i left the room for 2 hours and finally when i returned i could see a damaged i phone 5
    lying on the floor and the phone vibrating continuously and i figured out there was a fault with the cable and the
    current wasnt flowing continuously due to which the phone continued to vibrate and fell off the shelf.
    Next day i took the iphone to Apple service centre at Saket which was closed.
    Thinking its August 15 and so the store might be closed i went back to home and waited for the next day but unfortunately could not turn up since
    i had to go to work on odd timings.
    I again went to the same service centre on 17th August 2013 and saw the service centre closed again when i tried to contact
    the other service centre and was informed about Saket's service centre already been shut down.
    There was no hoarding/ banner any kind of intimation for the customers.
    Since 18th August was Sunday and i was occupied on 19th August i went to service centre at Ansal Plaza Khel Gaon Marg on
    20th August 2013 to complaint about the Faulty Cable and the damaged caused to my iphone 5 due to the same.
    I very well explained the same to one of the person at the receiving desk at the service centre who accepted the cable
    but explained me that he doesnt have the authority to accept my iphone without permission from the technical support people
    who will be able to help me in that case and gave me the toll free number.
    i Tried to reach the toll free number and finally managed to get online with a technical support executives who too all my details and
    summary of the problem i experienced and finally kept me on hold for almost 10 minutes ormore after which he said he said that my
    case cannot be considered and while the discussion was on, the call was disconnected and i was left frustrated as i still was at the service centre
    but finally i left with no hope from Apple .
    I tried to reach again at the toll free number, and finally managed to talk to a well behaved person who assured me of considering my case and suggested
    me to go back to the service centre and advice the the person at the recieving end there to get me connected to the technical support team when i reach so that i could
    submit my phone but, since, it was already around 4:30 and the service centre was about to shut and due to traffic
    conditions all around i thought of visiting the service centre next day.
    On 21st August 2013, i went back to the service centre and spoke to the one of the store person who adviced the case to the manager Mr. Alok ( as i remember )
    who was really rude to tell me that i will have to call the technical support team on my own and then he will connect and that its not his work and all that .
    I finally connected to one of the senior technical support executives Mr.Mohamed Azharuddin K who understood my concern and spoke to the manager of the store to accept
    my iphone.
    My iphone was finally collected and i was assured i would get a call back next day from the service centre about the update.
    It was now 22nd August 2013, no update was given,no call was received, i tried to call the service centre at 12:30, they were unaware about my case and knew only about the cable and said will call me
    back very shortly.
    I called back at 2:30, still no update, at 4:30 i called back again when i was told that my case cannot be considered and i can collect my phone.
    Similar discussion was held with Mr.Mohamed Azharuddin K.
    I knew by the time i will reach the service centre would again close.
    He told me that my case cannot be considered since the cable was recieved in the dead condition and wasnt working at all unlike what i told him about the cable.
    On 23th August 2013, i went back to the service centre and collected my phone. When i asked about my old cable and told them that it was working and i wanted the technician
    to check it properly when i handed it over, they had no answer but to say its already shipped. I spoke to the manager who said that he never told any body that the cable
    was received in dead condition and he only conveyed to other authorities that the cable had fault .
    I finally dont know what to do and came back with the new cable.
    I just visited my time, petrol and parking charges in getting the cable replaced.
    If i calculated i have spent around 16 hours and 2000 worth of money in just getting the cable replaced and have a broken phone in hand.
    More than a weeks torture.
    Is that the way apple compensates for its fault ????????????????
    I will make sure that i never buy any thing from Apple and advice all the people i know to not trust Apple blindly.

    Wow, Karan Taneja, you've just embarrassed yourself on a worldwide support forum.  Not only is your post ridiculous and completely inappropriate for a technical support forum, but it also shows your ignorance as to whom you think the audience is.  Apple is not here.  It's users, like you.
    If you would have spent half the time actually reading the Terms of Use of this forum that YOU agreed to by signing up to post, as you did composing that usesless, inappropriate post, you (and the rest of us on this forum) would have been much better off.

    hello all..
    i am using the transient name service and i would like to remove a service if a server goes down...how can i do that?

    hmm the thing is were to put the statement... after the code that makes the server waits for invocations?
             synchronized(sync){
                sync.wait();
             ncRef.unbind(pathEnglishToGreek);
